First real rage-quit! How to overcome carrier abuse?
ilhilh replied to Slipz's topic in General Discussion
further to this, often with the DDs you at least can fire back. Against CVs you can often suffer wave after wave with no chance of retaliating. Back to the OP - sounds like a shitty situation where there wasn't much you could have done to change the outcome - i.e. you survive. But as has been mentioned the game is not designed so that all 1v1 engagements are meant to be fair. Things like facing air attack in the Arkansas Beta with NO AA are not fair, and the tier IV CV who gets all of his planes smashed by the opposing tier V CV might then complain it isn't fair when he starts getting shot at by a BB. As people have suggested you might want to deal with the fires in future so you have learned... and you might well keep a closer eye on what your team mates are doing. But even with all of this you will still occasionally find yourself in a situation where there is no correct path to surviving. -
I have the Atago and I love it. The 10k torps are nice and can catch people unawares as they try and close in and the guns are nice - the AP smashes up smaller stuff and the HE can keep a BB burning all day long. As Iron says if you get too close to a BB they can ruin your day VERY quickly but you are relatively agile and have a good turn of pace so you should be able to keep yourself out of too much danger. Also, the spotting range/concealment often allows you to detect and get your guns to bear before they even know you are there. Also the AA is decent enough especially given that you can boost it and also launch a fighter.

Lol on the first page there is another thread complaining about the high number of draws - you should thank yourself that they are at least making it decisive

New patch version and british flag not showing in tech area
ilhilh replied to RoyalHankey's topic in General Discussion
Start the game up? I think if I remember in WoT it tells you that your version doesn't match the server. I expect it would be the same with WoWs... -
Far too many draws and countless minutes wasted!
ilhilh replied to Allanagtig's topic in General Discussion
I think it would be nice if the countdown timer was more prominent or perhaps flashed up a warning/reminder at 10 mins, 5 mins, 3 mins, 1 min or something like that as it quite easy to get too focussed on where you are and where the enemy is and forget the timer a bit... -
I only aimed the comments at you after you started getting all tetchy. Before that it was general comments that people as a whole should be careful when real money is involved. I was here when the ships came out, and I bought the Gremyashchy only because I did my research and decided the others were not worth it. That was the case at their launch and if the patches have made it worse it has only gone from useless to really useless. p.s. as an aside, if you had done your research you could see my beta tester status, my ownership of the Arkansas Beta (had to have played enough games so was probably here for a while) and the Gremyashchy and probably worked that I was here when they launched. So please stop making stuff up and... what are the words I'm looking for?... that's it!... get your facts straight
-
Stop being so sensitive. I wasn't trying to say that - I was saying as a rule 'people' should research properly if it is going to cost real money. As it happens I do think that since you bought a junk ship then it does suggest you didn't do enough research (this is me saying you didn't do proper research).

Well, if it is something you are spending real money on you should do some investigation before handing over your cash, but either way the credits you get tends to be fairly trivial and even a crap premium could earn those credits quickly enough - all you really get for selling it is a very expensive garage slot (dock slot?)
-
I'm going to push both CA and BB lines. CAs because they are really fun to play and BBs because I am just a massive fan of them (damn you air power for killing them off!). Unsure if I am going to bother with carriers (currently IJN are best at low/mid tiers I think but I would investigate which are best at higher tiers before investing my time there). I will probably go with jap DDs up to tier V at least (the tier II jap DD is a beast!). I might go to higher tier DDs as well but again would have to investigate which as best - and given how much time I get to play the game it will be a long time before I need to really worry about CVs/DDs.

For future reference premium ships have improved credit earnings over standard ships. If you need credits you should play your premium ship a bit, not sell it!

Cruisers actually screening - who knew it'd work
ilhilh replied to Addicus's topic in General Discussion
I had a great game last night in my Atago in a tier IX game. We did have a slight carrier advantage (2 x IX vs IX + VIII) where the cruisers seemed to work at screening the BBs and ruining their torp runs and providing some spotting whilst their team split up and did their own thing. The only thing I saw written was 7 mins in our VIII BB said he was going 8 line to stop a draw and took about 3 ships with him but I stayed back with the rest and pushed towards the 2-3 line. The argument that you don't get as many points for escorting is true but I don't necessarily escort things if the ONLY thing I can do is shoot at planes - escorting BBs and being able to shoot down planes whilst engaging the enemy means you are adding to your shooting score with some plane kills. Also, if you escort early game it doesn't mean that you are stuck doing that until the game ends... -
If the CAs go to the other flank then perhaps you should go to the other flank? It is the same thing in WoT... don't fight the lemon train. As others have said it is a pretty thankless task escorting someone and the reality is that it isn't easy to do without comms - you might need to turn to sort out ranges/reduce the number of ships firing at you... the CA doesn't... he takes a load of damage and decides he ain't doing that again... the alternative is that you don't turn and then you die and get accused of YOLOing. It often is not really the fault of either party per se...

The tier 3 BBs are a horror without the extended range provided by the FCS so getting that is very important. Even then you get out-ranged by lots of things... but at least you have a chance of getting them in range before losing most of your health. At lower tiers you do need to use natural cover/allies to help you get into an effective position but you have to be wary of torps then. But, lower tier BBs are always going to be a bit useless - they are just a grind you suffer until you get to tier V and above ships...

Automatic horns would perhaps be useful... no need to make them player controlled

A suggestion on "How to play your BB"
ilhilh replied to TheDubiousDonut's topic in General Discussion
The problem is there is no real way to coordinate in this game. Typing? it just doesn't work. So dividing things up doesn't work. And then reacting to what forces you face doesn't work either - for example you are evenly matched and your team mate runs away and you get boned... or you are over matched and you turn back but they don't. Given how quickly capping goes it is often hard to recover if you are too far away and it is an issue... but then being the 1 person not in the lemon train often leads to the same result as you get overwhelmed. This is a game that would benefit from improved coordination but offers no way to achieve it... except perhaps in clan based competitive play... -
Why is the triple package available on US store but not EU?
ilhilh replied to GospodinMijo's topic in General Discussion
I think the facts speak for themselves. The 15% discount ends and the 3 ship deal starts. As to why it is different to the US... well it is standard WG operating procedure - they have operated like this in WoT for a long time. Sucks. -
Got to agree. Particularly crit wise.

On your first point there I must say that I don't do ranging shots. I do ranging salvoes By the time you wait for your shells to land at long range you are over half reloaded again anyway so don't read too much into that. It is very rare that I fire a turret at a time and usually only happens when a ship is at very low health and either 1) there is another ship that requires my immediate attention or 2) there are other allies shooting at said low health ship. But yes, consistent centre mass salvoes are hard to do at long range.
-
This is the problem though. I get what you mean about them firing before the ship appears which is really hard to do without the mod, but with part a) people just assume if the first salvo gets a citadel hit they are up against someone using it. I can'y do it every time (hell, I don't even hit the target with the first salvo every round) but I have on many an occasion got a citadel hit on the first 20km salvo. I have even got a triple citadel hit last week at that kind of distance but if I had done that to you last night I would have been called a cheat. So the other downside to mods like this is the 'experts' who see a cheat in every citadel hit.

Are these premium ships that will be available to everyone when we move to OBT or are they unique ones for us?

Trying to shoot only to find myself back at desktop closing my browser
ilhilh posted a topic in Archive
It probably happens to me about every 3-4 games where I am trying to shoot at something off my port side and when I click fire I suddenly find myself at my desktop and have probably closed the background browser window or whatever I have sat underneath. It is like I have somehow managed to get the mouse cursor out of the game so it is not focused on the game window. I then have to tab back in and figure out where I was aiming. It only seems to happen when I am moving my mouse in a NE type direction to try and lead the target. Has anyone else had this problem? Not sure if any extra information would help but I am only running 1 monitor, 1920 x 1080 resolution 26" monitor, windows 7. -

Yea, I am full screen mode - probably should have mentioned that. Thanks! -

Hmmm I will give it a try, but this problem is unique to WoWs. I play WoT, XCOM, CS:GO and plenty of other games and have never come across this issue before
