As much as there will be occasional good reasons for AFK I expect most people join the queue thinking it will take 3 mins to find a game and then go for a brew/toilet stop/check fb/whatever and then just get back late. And as much as NoirLotus might claim it is dealt with by AFKs not getting a star it kind of misses the point. Firstly, a team with an AFK player is already at a large disadvantage (with smaller teams each missing player is more keenly felt) and as such most times their team will lose. Secondly, in my epxerience it is rare for an AFK player to miss the entirety of the game - they often turn up once it is too late to affect the outcome. At this point they won't get counted as an afker as they will do something... just not in time.

Got to agree but the problem comes when there is only so much pain and loss you can take before going mad. Last night went loss, win, loss, win, loss. Turn off game. 1 loss due to 2 players chasing a ship nowhere near the flags (Shatter - they had 3 flags once I died trying to keep the last). Another where the Nagato lost 80% of health and proceeded to sit at 20km against a DD and 4k health Myoko who got both flags and capped it out. The other loss we had 1 DD, they had 2. Ours charges A on North (tiny) and dies capping. Doesn't seem to understand that having a DD alive after 3 mins would be preferable to having no DDs on our team whilst they have 2. Ironically the game where I really screwed up we won anyway But then this morning I was up early and got 4 games in - 3 nice wins in my Iowa/Izumo/Hiryu for my dailies in random and then I thought I would chance ranked. Queueing took only 2 mins even that early in the morning and the team was great. We talked in chat, we focus fired, we all went for the same objective. A DD pushes the west flank in North and our NO covered him enough to know that he left the cover of the islands and headed to open water but being undetected meant he was perhaps out to the 2 line so having reported his position he said 'I'm not going to bother chasing him'. Perfect. We all turn on the other ships and the hatsuhari ends up having to chase us. In the time he is in the open ocean we tip the scales in our favour so when he goes for a flag I spot him, dmg him and the NO kills him. Another CA comes south from B but on his own he dies v quickly. Their team split with ships going all directions and their NC sitting nose on in spawn until it is him +1 vs 5-6 of us (with both flags) and then charges in. Unfortunately the round ended before he died but hey ho. The teams gave me pause for thought when loading but in the end it wasn't even a particularly hard fought win but it was well executed and a joy to be part of.

The imaginary problem of kill stealing. It would be nice if you could progress ARP in both because the time requirements to push up the ranks AND do the ARP missions is asking a LOT of players. I got to rank 1 last season so I am less bothered about this one but I am trying some games to see how it goes... but at some point I will have to make a choice whether I focus on one or the other. Also, getting DD kills in ranked is generally a lot easier

Carriers too slow need protecting game objective need changing
ilhilh replied to Anonymous_Legion's topic in Aircraft Carriers
Plenty of people don't want to play carrier. Plenty of people would be useless in it. Does it move out of the tech tree? You can't grind a ship you can't choose to play. How do you choose your carrier nation? How do you choose your setup?- 39 replies

Carriers too slow need protecting game objective need changing
ilhilh replied to Anonymous_Legion's topic in Aircraft Carriers
As slow as some CVs are the problem is that with most captains they only move when they are in imminent danger. I see it over and over again and it is sloppy play. When I am in a CV I start getting my planes into the air, set an auto pilot course to keep me towards the fleet and knock my CV up to full speed. I then adjust that course throughout the game, often having to turn back or move closer and hardly ever sit still. Half of my problems come when I misjudge how close to the fleet I can sit and suddenly have to beat a retreat. I can only assume that haven't played WG titles much if you think having an objective will make everyone team play - people are happy to ignore objectives in WoWs and WoT and if you genuinely have to rely on your team mates for your safety then all is lost.- 39 replies

They will announce when it ends about 3 days after it actually ends

Finishing these missions has actually become more of a pain due to the starting of season 3 - season 2 only just finished. Although having reached tier 1 last time I am not going to push myself too hard in season 3. If the wins keep coming I'll play more but if there is a bad run I'll probably quit that and focus on this.
-
I did it with the Hiryu and kept my 2/2/2 loadout. I also picked up a fair few inbetween with my Iowa as there are more CVs around during mission times. As others have said though, any will really do but at tiers IV/V the US CVs are preferable. In the interest in not wasting free EXP I would just get the langley and free EXP better fighters. Or if you really can't face that free EXP to the Bogue with the fighter deck/upgraded fighters.

I got to rank 1 last season. This meant I started this season as rank 14 with 0 stars. I played 1 game (won) which still left me well and truly on rank 14 and I got a ton of rewards for the previous ones.

You shouldn't tar everyone with the same brush purely because they are pink. In my 1k plus games I have probably seen 10-15 pink players and I would guess 2/3 of them have played the game properly and I have seen a couple top 3 on our team. I would never start firing on a friendly for the sole reason that they are pink - it wastes my time and pushes you to more of a disadvantage. My general course of action is to try and keep a bit of distance and at the start (when no enemies are around) I keep my guns on them. If they step out of line then I'll smash them to bits. Most of the griefers can't help themselves but give you advance warning of their douchiness in chat probably before the game starts so they are easy to identify and then you can deal with them quickly.

*adopts geordie accent* "Day 7 in the WGEU house and the entire team is still asleep. No one has surfaced since the NYE celebrations. The phone keeps ringing with a russian phone number but no one answers. Last night saw a doctor called after the fears were raised that many of them might actually be dead. Tests confirmed that vital signs were present for everyone but they were unable to ascertain whether there was actual brain function."

I think there is/was an official ts server but I've never used it. I've dragged up a link at: http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/7299-cbt-teamspeak-server/

I don't think it can be a bug if it has been announced on the other region portals. I think the EU team are just behind on it... again.

Having the same flag is crap and lazy. I already have it and it was a nice touch for pushing yourself to rank 1. They should have something different or perhaps they should have the flag with some marks at the bottom to denote how many times you reached the top rank.

Is there no way to see what it is out of game? No idea what mine will be. I try hard, am certainly above your average player and I compliment people both in game (time permitting) and with the report/compliment system. But, it can be hard spotting good play if it isn't that close to you. On the other hand, I don't always keep quiet when I feel I have been let down which I expect will earn me the odd negative report. I know I shouldn't... but in the heat of the moment it is how I deal with things. Also I can sometimes try and get people to follow more if there is an opening on a flank and some people just don't respond well to being told to do something. I really don't think this system is going to change my behaviour though because I don't care enough about this random value enough.

If it isn't relevant why would you spend time trying to keep it at 0?
-
You do right with the zulu flag - it is only for the premium ships (higher tier the better I expect). I also run premium account which earns me more. I have too many premium ships but I enjoy most of them so if I have time I play Iowa, Izumo, Tirpitz and Warspite. Then I may play Mutsuki and Aoba. So I play quite a high proportion of premium ship games. I usually only play each ship to the first win and then head off to play Fallout 4 or something else. I also find that focussing on too many lines spreads your wealth too thin. I have also finished the Cleveland and haven't bought the Pensa and finished the Hiryu and not bought the Shokaku and this is partly for finance reasons. The Iowa left me utterly bankrupt but as I said I pushed hard to get rank 1 which gave me 10 mil credits and got me back on track financially in time for unlocking the Izumo. And finally I didn't use any of the reduced repair cost flags until tier 9 but that helps you keep from draining your credit supply. As for the exp If you add premium account 50% exp, 100% exp for camo, 50% for Equal Speed Charlie London flag and 1.5x for first win you get a huge EXP income for a game - my first 2 games in the Izumo had over 100k damage in each and netted me about 8.5k exp. I can't expect every game to give me that and 4 games (3 wins, 1 loss) has seen me collect 25k ship exp. My final hard saved 25k free EXP means I have 50k... so 2 more games (probably assuming 1 win) will get me to the 60k I need for the C hull. If you have done some maths for the 30 games figure then that sounds really nice - I only got to Amagi in CBT and took a break so I have never got to play the beast that is the Yamato.
-
Really good guide. It confirms that plenty of the things I do are correct whilst giving me food for thought on areas I can improve on. Will keep an eye out for the final section being finished.
-
Glad I saw this... entirely didn't realise. Was a long slog to rank 1 last time... wonder if I can be bothered again...
-
I've just recently got the Izumo. I free EXP the B hull and the propulsion - I had over 80k free EXP saved up (none converted). B hull is most important and I hoped the propulsion would help with the turn speed... probably should have looked into it. I have then stuck on the 50% EXP flag and the 100% exp camo (from rank 1 in ranked) and I am about 10k away from C hull after 4 battles - that will wipe out my free EXP but I saved for a long while specifically for this ship. I could not save enough free EXP for C hull at the start so I've sunk 4 mil credits into the B hull but it is not a waste I feel - it might only take me 6 games to afford the C hull but playing a series of horrible games in the A hull just to save 4 mil is a bad solution if you ask me - 6 games with B hull turns into perhaps 10-12 with A hull and no enjoyment to boot. Also keep in mind the HUGE cost of tier IX. I kept the NC and got the Iowa and it cost perhaps 35 mil to get the ship and all of the modules and upgrade. That is a brutal amount of credits to spend so be ready for its - tier IX is more expensive than tier X in term of the money you sink into getting a fully functioning ship. With the Izumo I had the cash from the sale of the Amagi, the reused modules from the Amagi and I had earned 10 mil credits from getting to rank 1 in ranked and so I survived that purchase relatively comfortably. So I can't really yell you what stock was like as I wasn't stupid enough to try it. It is a solid ship though but it does force a rather conservative approach to BB play. I am planning on keeping the flags/camo on and finishing the Izumo grind in as few games as possible - I need the Yamato! And in answer to your original question about being worth it... I have never played the Yamato but can tell you that the answer is a resounding YES. As for the Amagi... really enjoyed it... but as I said above I sold it. I have actually just checked my stats and my ave damage surpassed my NC... but I didn't sell that. I enjoy the NC more somehow and their performance for me was broadly similar. I also own the Tirpitz (from the first sale - I'm v experienced with it). If I had to rank them then NC->Amagi->Tirpitz... but I love all 3 and they all perform really well - it is a very well balanced tier. But I can't afford/don't need 3 tier 8 BBs so one had to go...

Merry Christmas one and all!

It does go to the 11th January. I probably won't get chance to play until in the New Year but it should still be very achievable

6.8 mil here. Kinda hoped/thought it might be a bit higher but it certainly is a welcome boost anyway

After 0.5.2 good DD players will rule the battles
ilhilh replied to MATREKUS's topic in General Discussion
I don't think your experience in BBs is enough to have given you such an insight into what a BB should do. All you need to do is grow a pair? Point at the torpedoes (that you can't see) and dodge once every 90-120 seconds (because there is of course only 1 torpedo firing boat that can target you at once). Yea, right. I am predominantly a BB player and I am naturally an aggressive one but there are limits to what you can do. As I hint at above it is not uncommon to find 3-4 DDs in high tier games and that is before you consider your IJN cruisers and the amount of torps can be relentless. Throw in some CA HE spam to keep you on fire (making you vulnerable to flooding and further fires) and the fact that BBs are relatively easy to citadel as soon as they try to turn out of a bad situation and you can die really quickly and really easily. There are plenty of bad sniping BBs but there are plenty of decent ones who still can't be as aggressive as they might like because without support playing like mr-big-balls is actually a good way to YOLO and push your team towards a loss.
