If they have planned this then they have shut no one up. All they have done is turn a shitstorm into biblical shitstorm 3 weeks later. Which would be mindbogglingly stupid.

As I mentioned I had taken the screenshots because in the end it was a really tense game. And I say in the end because what I essentially did was screw up early on and so very nearly die. But in the end I killed 5, de-capped and we won. So, I'm going to post the replay file but also with those screenshots with a small explanation and hopefully that will stop any loud shouts of 'noob'... although I perhaps deserve them! If I can offer any justification then it was 7:40am UK time when that started and I was more asleep than awake!

400k pearls was on the day that the missions refreshed. Again, an unusually high pearl day one would expect...
-
I see there being no chance we will not hit 10 million in the time allowed. I expect that we will do it with time (perhaps a week) to spare. The only question is whether we can hit 260 pearls each in time. Mr Fingers has done some depressing maths which makes it look like we might hit the target too soon... however it is actually hard to be certain due to the 1-time missions which cloud the pearl/week count. We should earn substantially more pearls in week 1 than successive weeks. Assuming not everyone did the 1-time missions in the first week (I didn't do them all) then there will be a fairly sharp fall in week 2 but a continuing decrease over the weeks. But countering that will be additional people signing up and starting the race... although I expect that number will be relatively low.
-
I am not expecting them to bend the rules either. The pearls are easy enough to get... particularly the weekly ones so I will get everything in order and make sure I get the 260 pearls as soon as I can after they become available (which should be Monday 8th). That is the 'important' day. If we hit 10 mil pearls before then I can't do anything about it - I'll be in the lottery though even if I can't guarantee one for myself. If we are very close at that point then it will be potentially a limited number of people who can get the final 24 pearls* to hit 260 - but that is a big if! Finally, if we are sat on 8 mil or something (a distance away from the 10 mil total) then you get a bit more leeway and can get those 24 pearls at your leisure. p.s. I see this as very unlikely * this is assuming you have the 236 pearls from 1 time missions (65 of them) together with the 3* 57 weekly ones. You can get 15 pearls in a 1 game if it is a decent one (5 kills). Then if you can get to 10 kills you have smashed it. If you are struggling to get the kill shots then by the time you get to 20k exp earned you have definitely done it anyway.

Those definitely are reasonable interpretations of the facts... but I definitely read on this forum that the deadline was extended on SEA to allow people to get to the target that had missed it. I don't know where the post was that I read it and it was third hand hand but the end conditions didn't mean the end for SEA.

Arpeggio of Blue Steel - ARS NOVA - Kongō - 400k+ damage! ;)
ilhilh replied to Trigger_Happy_Dad's topic in Battleships
Nope. I did not say that. Reading that again I don't believe there was even the implication that I thought your performance was bad. 100k/game is definitely good. I don't really want to detract from the thread by turning this into an argument but I still stand by what I said and I think that the title is misleading even with the word compilation in it (which I saw before my original post). My initial expectation from the video title would be multiple examples (going from the info for this video - 4 of them) of you achieving what is in the title rather than multiple games adding up to the achievement. As I said in my original it was only me starting to think whether there was 400k damage to be had in tier 5 that got me wondering if the video didn't match initial expectations. If I had posted a video of 'Umikaze 12 kill compilation' and then said it was 3 games of my Umikaze people would have clicked to watch it expecting to see me solo entire teams multiple times. Anyway I guess it is horses for courses...- 27 replies

Toxicity in game... can it be adressed? Should it be adressed by wargaming? Sugestions?
ilhilh replied to Black0rchid's topic in General Discussion
This is far from the most toxic community I have seen in an online game. But how does a clan system fix this? I'm commander of my clan and when we were more active in games I would get the occasional message off a player regarding one of our members 'calling them names'. I didn't kick anyone for it. And had I kicked them would they have stopped? Somehow I doubt it...- 30 replies

I think I was in that game... shooting at you. Am sure I saw you pop up in chat but was a little busy trying to stop us losing! I took some screenshots to post in the greatest achievements thread for that game and then forgot to actually uplaod them before running off to work. EDIT: I was in my Iowa

Colorado Starter Guide - What Should You Upgrade?
ilhilh replied to AsturiaDE's topic in Battleships
Step 1 - whilst I agree with you that the NM is truly excellent and might be kept in its own right... people's credits and earning potential vary massively. Sure, some people might need the NM for credits but many people will have premiums they could use instead and the Colorado is perfectly capable of making money. Step 2 - can't argue with this. It might be fairly slow, even fully upgraded but the manoeuvrability is one of its strongest points. Step 3 and 4 are kind of combined. Buy the FCS! How can you possibly recommend otherwise? You can increase the range with a ship upgrade that then leaves you to make a choice about either increasing range further or increasing turret rotation speed. Having the FCS gives you more options. The real starter guide should be: If you can at all help it, do not sail the Colorado without B hull. If you have free EXP then this is your priority. Next up is propulsion. Combined with steering gears equipment it does make the Colorado nice and nimble. Get it FULLY upgraded and kitted out ASAP. Stock it is a pig but on full spec it performs comparably to the Nagato.- 27 replies

Arpeggio of Blue Steel - ARS NOVA - Kongō - 400k+ damage! ;)
ilhilh replied to Trigger_Happy_Dad's topic in Battleships
I find the video title slightly misleading. when I first saw it I wondered if there was 400k dmg in a game at tier 5 but if I see it mentioned I expect it to be in 1 game. I mean, you could get 20k damage per game for 20 games and include them in a video but it would be not much to watch...- 27 replies

This. AS loadouts can only be an irritant to the CVs and either they win out and kill all the enemy planes or the CV dies and then all they can really do is spot. As many other threads have pointed out there is no XP in killing planes really and you just don't help your team win. A CV can seriously turn the tables in your team's favour but not with just fighters and DBs. DBs are hopeless by themselves particularly on things like the Bogue where you only have 1 flight of them - the enemy can repair and have repair ready again by the time you have rearmed your DBs. One 'advantage' of the Bogue AS layout is that the full complement of planes on that tier is so low you can realistically kill of the enemy planes. Another thing to note is probably 60-80% (made those figures up) of Bogue players use AS meaning it is hard to deal with them unless you also run AS but it still doesn't help your team - if the enemy Bogue is running AS then he is not a threat to your team unless a marginal threat to DDs. Neutralising an AS Bogue doesn't tip the balance in your favour. But I have the Hiryu I play in strike loadout (2/2/2) and neither Hiryu AS (3/1/2) loadout or Ranger loadout (2/0/2) are any problem for me to deal with. With the Ranger loadout you may have 12 fighters in the air to my 8 but it is still 2 squadrons Vs 2. Sure I might lose all 8 engaging your fighters (and this is not including barrage) but whilst you are doing that I have 2 DB and 2 TB squadrons tearing someone in your team a new one. If you kill those fighters I can do that again... twice due to 16 spare fighters. Also, if you kill my fighters and do chase my strike aircraft then you might get them as well but if I do my job right it will be after they have dropped their payload... and I have 16 spare of each of those as well. You have to work really hard to render my Hiryu impotent - games don't usually last that long. If you want to help your team then the general rule is that AS sucks. (No fighters also sucks). EDIT: I case it wasn't clear I voted stock config of 1 fighter and 1 TB. If you land even 2 torpedoes in 1 attack run then you have already outperformed the AS Bogue.

Reading my post again it does look like I had taken your points as you almost demanding an answer but I assure you I hadn't taken it that way - I had just phrased my response badly so sorry for that. I also have limited time to play the game for much the same reasons and when I do have gaming time I have other games I would like to play too but I feel like the objectives here are relatively easy. Now that we have seen the 2nd set of weekly missions are identical to the first we can see that you can conceivably complete the weekly missions in 10 games (assumes 50% wr, average of 1 kill per game and meeting the XP requirements). If this continues then you don't need much time per week to get the pearls. Using an end date of 24th feb that is 5.5 weeks of time. So 6 lots of weekly missions. If there are 6 lots of 57 pearls then you will get to 342 pearls just by doing the weekly missions. The longer/harder missions have a 5.5 week window so you can just plug away at them at your leisure - you should be able to complete them whilst only playing for the weekly requirement if you are strategic with your ship selection and these can net you another 65 pearls taking you up to 407. So, if you can spare time for 10 games per week for 5 weeks then you should be ok. Perhaps make that 15/week (basically 2 per day) to really make sure you nail it. You could even say that if you complete the longer missions and the weekly ones then you need 4 sets of weekly missions to get over 260. 65+(3*57) = 236. 65+(4*57) = 293. This means people can start hitting the 260 pearl requirement from Monday 8th February onwards - 16 days and 2 lots of weekly missions before the deadline date. So I'm not from WG and I haven't cleared up the minor points about what causes an end to the event but if I haven't screwed up my maths then hopefully I have made it seem quite attainable.

I can confirm everything is fixed for me. Thanks.

What is most frustrating is when you get team torped by someone with 5km torps who fired them at an enemy who is 15km away and not even closing the distance. That really is a case of WTF... But, I've team torped by accident on several occasions so I am hardly perfect myself.

I don't think they need to answer this. Sure, it might be nice but the fact is that if you want to be sure to get the kamikaze then make sure you get to 260 before we reach 10 mil pearls. It is after all better to be safe than sorry. I'm not planning on being in some kind of grey area where I am at the mercy of some decision making. I think I remember reading something about SEA and the deadline was extended to allow more people to hit the required number of pearls... however I don't know if that was just an extension to the time or it meant that they went way over the target number of pearls as well. As for the deadline... I don't think that is necessarily concrete anyway - there is no way that they will let us as a server fail the mission if we are at 9 mil pearls on deadline day. 1 of 2 things will happen I think They will extend the deadline if necessary. They will increase the number of missions we can do to help bump the pearl total up in time for the deadline. One thing you can be certain about is that WG can change various aspects of the competition on the fly if they so wish - SEA got changed on the fly multiple times I think. Admittedly they were first and it was a learning curve... but it is entirely possible it will happen to us also.

People can get angry enough at me without the ability to do something about it. I'm much happier just seeing their chat which has no substance to it...

Well my last game must have been about 6:30pm as I was at a friend's house last night so I don't think it can have been anything to do with being close to the reset.
-
I still have those but I expected to... they are not weekly.
-
I have this: I had 112 pearl...still have 112 pearls but it shows my weekly missions as the below despite not playing any games! I don't mind not having to do the missions but I want them 10 7 pearls :p

I got it twice and the first time I capped in my Tenryu vs 2 CVs, and at least 1 BB. Not sure what the other ship (or 2) were but they screwed up
-
With the changes to clear sky (you need 30+ plane kills and to kill over 50% of the total enemy planes) the lower tiers are definitely the place to be to get this - their decks are just so small that there are not many replacements to kill. You can definitely farm it in a Langley but the AS Bogue would probably be equally as effective. I was missing 3 awards but a Baltimore decided to ram me 1 or 2 nights ago in my Izumo after I had knocked him to very low health and he realised I wasn't going to focus on the NC that was bow on to me but with him. I actually made a failed attempt to ram the NC at the same time but missed. This is only the second time I've rammed someone outside of CBT with the first 1 being in ranked where I killed 1 BB (think it was an Amagi) and shortly after, on low health, rammed a second (think it was a an NC) to kill us both - a fair trade I thought for my NC. This now leaves me with CQE and witherer left to get. CQE strikes me as being an absolute pig to get - I don't let ships stay alive for long when they are at the kind of ranges my secondaries fire at. Apparently the Mikasa is really good with its secondaries. Witherer... I'll get that at some point... potentially as I start to get my 300 fires in earnest!

Confederate does take a certain kind of game but it is not very hard to achieve really. As others have mentioned CVs are not ideal for it (although I've picked one up in my Hiryu in the past 24 hours) as they are for huge burst damage at a specific target followed by long periods of nothing a you rearm. Other ships can cycle through targets at a much higher pace and so will pick it up more often.

Personally my played well votes go to team mates in the vast majority of cases. I find it a lot easier to see when a team mate has made good choices and really helped either me (locally) or the team (perhaps heading back to reset their cap in the nick of time). And I am quite liberal with these although you do only get 5 a day and that can stop me from using too many in any particular game. Also, I am focussed on what I'm doing so sometimes I just plain don't notice. With the enemy team it is (obviously) a lot harder to get a sense of what the person has done - my interaction with them will usually be pretty short lived because someone dies. And if, for example, they get to defending the cap to save their team then were they camping until then or did they turn at the last moment to get there? Have they helped their team out or just dived in to kill my 4% hp ship at the end? Usually I cannot really tell if the opposition has really played a great game or whether they have just killed me? And if someone completely obliterates me then usually my initial reaction is anger... but when that settles a bit I follow it up by thinking about why that happened - did they outplay me or did I hand it to them? Or in some situations did I kill myself (I do this ion DDs a lot). Was there nothing I could have done or should I have seen it coming? Or even if I couldn't have seen it happening should I have been playing in a way that just made it harder for them to achieve in the first place? Sometimes I get sloppy and if that death was one of those times then I give myself a mental slap upside the head and resolve never to do it again - sure there are plenty of people who are better than me but I am good enough that I shouldn't be an easy kill for anyone and it annoys me when I am. As for dealing with frustrations? I try to see whether it is me playing bad or whether I am playing well but not getting the results - it ties in with above but if I'm tired I end up playing worse and recognising whether it is me or 'the team' is important. I don't want to get into some discussion about blaming things on everyone else but if I am consistently top or in the top 3 and posting decent scores then I will often keep playing - things will come right by virtue of me doing more than my share. If I am dying early or dying having not done very much then it is time to get out of the game and do something else!
