Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
ilhilh replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
I saw Jaeger_Bomb_Meister on the enemy team. His profile looks he has perhaps been banned or deleted the forum account (if it is possible) but he certainly used to be around and posting. I only noticed him when he started ranting in global about his team as we coasted to an easy win (him in Atago, me in Yamato). -
There have been PLENTY of threads around detailing the changes to the MK that maybe have the tiniest buff (RoF) to it but essentially most of the changes are to make it behave like it did with AFT when AFT changes. It isn't a 'heavy' buff. You could also possibly argue a small indirect buff due to the mogami losing out due to the AFT changes but again, it is not significant. So you are wrong with that assertion. Looking at this thread you present a few data-mined lines of changes as proof of significant changes (a nerf) to the Myoko. Your replies when questioned about it seem to be along the lines 'fine don't believe me... we will see on patch day'. And now when we get an official response (because yet again you are wrong with your OP) from someone in WG you just call him a liar. We get precious little direct responses from WG and then you are just rude for no reason - why would they bother replying when they are treated like this? I have seen you in many threads and you are a chronic complainer. You never have anything good to say and instead fill most of your threads with negativity and misinformation. Give it a rest.

I would say that a lot of your problem will be general inexperience at that tier. Looking at your other stats your highest non-premium ship is tier 6 (Cleveland) and your premiums account for a very small number of games at tiers 7-8. More specifically, you have 91 battles in BBs total of which perhaps 1/3 are Tirp, 1/3 are Imperator and then a scattering of games in Arkansas and tier 3s. That is not a lot of BB games and if you couple it with general inexperience at tier 8 then I think we can start to get some idea why you are under performing. Looking at your average damage... it is on the low side but not terrible... it certainly doesn't exactly explain the WR so it might also translate into you not make the right decisions in terms of what flank to attack, when to turn and defend and other macro positioning decisions. General Tirpitz tips: You are fast have high RoF/fast turrets. Make sure that you are weaving around... angling whilst you load and then if you are sure the enemy is still reloading expose the minimum broadside to get all 4 turrets in play and fire. Then duck back into cover. You have really tough armour from shorter ranges. At long ranges plunging fire can citadel you but closer (10km) the Tirp is a problem to citadel. Ignore your torpedoes. Well don't ignore them... but don't try to put yourself into situations just to use them... it will get you killed. I largely use mine for self defence or occasionally to deal with a bow on Iowa/Montana/Yamato that I simply can't pen with AP. Your AP is not the best... it is perfectly capable against broadside BBs (any tier), lower tier BBs and cruisers but don't waste time shooting ships you can't damage if there are better options. Your AA is pretty crap. This makes you an attractive target to CVs so you need to keep manoeuvring. I assume you have the steering mod on your ship (like all BBs should have). Make sure you keep ctrl+ clicking squads to do what you can against them. Don't use HE. General BB advice and some might disagree but it is a waste of time. Use AP only.

Defending? Don't sit still. Don't sit on the back line either (it reduces the amount of runs you can make because you spend too much time in transit). I sit as far forwards as I reasonably can using my team/islands for cover but with enough wriggle room that I can run if I need to. If you sit still then you are predictable for enemy CVs and if you start moving when their planes are closing in then you won't move far. Remember to focus fire your AA on incoming torp bombers specifically. And try your hardest not to use repair until everything the enemy has sent has dropped its payload - better CV players will leave a squad of bombers sat out of range until you use your repair. Attacking? Don't go AS. Ever. I did it for the Ryujo and it was a huge mistake and resulted in poor performance (lowest average damage and win rate of ANY of my CVs - even did better in the Bogue!). A CVs role is to deal massive damage. There might be various strategies around suggesting either going for pure damage or maximising kills (not necessarily the same thing) but your role still centres around massive damage. People might give you conflicting advice about fighters but in my opinion their primary role is to tie up the enemy fighters whilst your strike group makes its attack. If you lose your fighters but successfully hit an enemy ship hard then it is an acceptable exchange. Perhaps defending your CV is a primary role too but often that shouldn't be an issue (see above). Killing enemy planes is a secondary role. An important secondary role admittedly but still secondary. Obviously if you are not running AS (like you shouldn't be) and you are playing as IJN then you are going to find it harder to win air superiority - although you often can because lots of CV players are pretty crap! Judicious use of barrage is your friend. But your role is damage and that should be your focus. Vasp says grouping planes is dangerous and he is right, it is if you can't tie down their fighters, but if you are using your fighters correctly then they shouldn't be an issue... and grouping your strike force together should increase the amount of hits (torps and bombs) that you can get on target. In my Hiryu I run 2/2/2 and always group my TBs and DBs together. Then when I get close to the target I drop 1 DB behind and pile in with 3 squadrons. The other DB goes in after the torps have hit. If you want to attack something like a Colorado with its decent AA then you pretty much have to take this approach otherwise they kill everything.

People Complaining About Losing - Solution!
ilhilh replied to TheFierceRabbit's topic in General Discussion
A few weeks ago I had someone calling me a n00b in chat and telling me that I had done nothing and we were going to lose because of me. Within 30 seconds of that message 2 automatic notifications popped up into chat saying not only "confederate" but also "high caliber". All from the 1 salvo -
My Gremy thinks it will be a great day for a gunboat DD

At least you know you did something right yourself
ilhilh replied to TheJezna's topic in General Discussion
Hah yea that is one of the things I noticed first! Good work though! -
I admit it. I am a torpedophile. Confess ur best derps!
ilhilh replied to SkullFox's topic in General Discussion
I always think the best ones are when things don't go as planned for example: You aim at a BB and kill an unspotted DD You hit a BB with some torps but then others go on further and hit something else Similar to above but you completely miss your target... grumble about the waste of torps whilst you wait another minute or 2 for the reload and then hit something that should have dodged them ages before. I've actually had it before where it has suddenly said I've killed something and I had forgotten I even had torps swimming around because suddenly you get distracted by a gunfight with another DD or something. -
I am reasonably good at hitting at distance I do have issues hitting midships consistently... but once you are firing in a BB at 10+km then dispersion means that it is impossible to be certain of hits on the waterline midships even if you aim is perfect. The skill comes from putting the shells in the right ballpark and the rest is down to RNG. Obviously some people are more consistent at doing this than others but sometimes I feel people make it sounds like the fault is always aim when actually there has been nothing wrong with the aiming element of someone's game. I'm not saying you suggested otherwise... more it is an observation from sometimes reading other people's advice.

Someone started a private chat with me yesterday to call me a cheat: 2 brothers, domination, me in my tirpitz, north spawn. I go East... our West flank falls. I head back to try and hold that flank and about 5 ships are heading to cap the north spawn including a Mahan. He sits in smoke and shoots me repeatedly. I focus on the cruisers. His smoke ends and he runs off into the channel between the islands. I have killed 1 cruiser and I'm looping away from the remaining 3 to try and stop the number of shells pounding me. In the process I'm passing relatively close to the channel and so I throw 4 torps at it and keep turning away. He re-appears coming back out of the channel but then the round ends. I'm not sure if my torps were going to hit him but my guns were almost on him as well. I was just picking my next ship when I see a box pop up in my port: him: how you see me behind island? him: new mod?? him: REPORT! me: what? Which ship were you?! *checks battle report* me: oh the Mahan... I didn't see you when I fired the torps! But you are in the most hemmed in channel in the game! I got no further replies but.... seriously. You can't even blind fire some torps to the most-obvious-choke-point-where-you-saw-an-enemy-go-into without some thinking you are a cheat. And as an XVM user I can tell you he had decent stats... good enough that I would have thought he would know better...

The EU total gets more pearls... you as an individual don't.
-
Definitely done this before. I remember being in a game with my Iowa as the only tier 9. I nearly wet myself with glee at the thought of all of the pain I was going to bring down on the enemy team and if I didn't die first I was in the first 3 to die. And it was all my fault
-
Overcommitting. And this goes for most classes (not CVs so much) as I have an aggressive play style. This can be a big boon for our team if I am paying enough attention and judge it right but it causes big problems when I get it wrong. I have made big strides recently particularly in DDs/CAs but it is definitely the area I am working most to improve so that I am as aggressive as possible.

Those that will fail at getting to 260 pearls without another weekly reset should take comfort in the fact that a lot of people have got over 260 which takes them out of the lottery pool - I have absolutely no figures to back this up but I expect the lottery pool will be relatively small and as such the chances of being successful in it will be higher.

What ships do you guys have a Love-Hate Relationship with?
ilhilh replied to SeaMonsterUK's topic in General Discussion
Ships that have a bad reputation that I like: Colorado and Izumo. These are my preferred BBs of their respective tiers which probably goes against the majority view. Both suck terribly when stock and both have a bad reputation from earlier days that is not entirely justified nowadays. I unlocked the Yamato 2 games after I unlocked the Montana so I was left with the unusual situation of having both tier IX BBs elite and in my port at the same time. So, I thought long and hard about which one to keep and my heart was telling me I enjoyed the Izumo more. In fact my statistics backed that up - I'm a BB player and I'm decent enough but I couldn't get the Iowa to work... and I really could get the NC to work! So now the Iowa is gone and the Izumo is lurking there... admittedly I don't have a captain for her... but she is ready for if WG do something crazy like make ranked games tier IX at which point I would retrain my Yamato captain and use her. Ships that I like but I cannot get to work... Atago and Aoba... although I could generalise and say 'cruisers'. I was ok at the HE spamming world of low tier cruisers up to Cleveland (indeed I have 62% wr in the Cleveland that I still own) but I paused there as I also had the Aoba and I was terrible in it. The move up to the 203s was hard for me as I didn't understand how to play them. This was also reflected in my Atago which I stopped playing pre buff because I was embarrassed. I decided the Aoba was to be me learning platform and if I got better then I would allow myself to progress further up the CA lines. And I did get better, not great, but better... however I could not rescue the win rate even with good performances. Same for the Atago... I'm much more competent in it now but that doesn't seem to result in more wins... as much as I can perform to an acceptable standard I'm certainly not capable of carrying in a cruiser... they are just too fragile (and I'm not good enough). -
I think I must have been stealing some of the weekend luck. I wasn't around on Saturday but on Sunday and Monday I won 17 out of 23 games by my maths. And the losses were mainly clumped together - I got up on Monday morning, won 4, lost 1, won 1 (looking great at this point) and then lost 4 in a row to get the 10 battles played for the pearls. Even that was frustrating as I checked those 5 losses and I was top on 3 of them, 2nd on one of them and then.... well I screwed up on the other one and finished 5-6th. In that time I unlocked the Yamato, unlocked the Independence, finished bootcamp stages 2 and 3 and bagged myself the ARP Myoko. Oh, and pushed myself to the max 293 pearls in the minimum 10 games it takes. I would say that perhaps my luck is due to change but damn if I hadn't had 2-3 weeks of solid bad results. I deserved this luck
-
It flashed up when I came out of game with 250 pearls that i had got 1 mil credits
-
He isn't showing great results... just that he is finished. And even really bad players could get to 293 pearls. As for why he might have hidden it - XVM would be my guess. It is why I have hidden mine.
-
I'll be at 293 by the time I get to 10 games. So far on 6 games with 5 wins and 7 kills. My plan isn't to push really hard but I will keep getting pearls by just playing. I wasn't here just for the kamikaze - I've finally unlocked a tier X and I have other ship lines I'm working through. If we don't make it this week then next Monday I'll earnsome more with the next set of weeklies

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
ilhilh replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
On Friday I played 2 games: Game 1 in Iowa - win - unlocked Montana. Game 2 in Izumo - win. Tonight I have played 1 game in my Izumo - win - unlocked Yamato. Finished them both very close together! -
I understand need for AFT change, Mogami perspective honest confession
ilhilh replied to albinbino's topic in General Discussion
Can you give me a link please? I fail at searching. p.s. is the current Myoko citadel quite small? -
I don't think anyone knows but my guess is after we reach 10 mil pearls because the idea is you only get the ship if the community hits the 10 mil target. And not necessarily as soon as we get there... it might be a few days after if they have to do any checks or... stuff. I might try and find out how it worked with SEA.

As much as it doesn't say it is only 3x for the first win you can also argue that "absolutely NOWHERE" does it say it is 3x for every win either. It really does amaze me what people's expectations are when there is evidence precedence already there saying what it will be 3x for first win only. And having ignored it you all get outraged when the event is not what you have imagined it will be. I understand your point but again this doesn't surprise me. They said it would be 3x and they are giving us 3x. I would have expected them to push the 2x weekend back to next weekend before they stacked the bonuses. The 3x event is for everyone. They confirmed this when Project R started (sorry I don't have a link). We earned it for them and some of them won't realise... but, everyone benefits.

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
ilhilh replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
I have seen quite a lot of forumites recently and said hello to most. My memory sucks so I can't name them all. Saw viceadmiral123 this morning though. Must admit I was happier seeing him in a Nagato than I would have been in a CV... actually he is probably v good in BBs too. Either way, he went East on 2 brothers and I went West so we never saw each other. He died and we were on track to win but our DD didn't like that idea so left the cap to chase their CV. 'he can de-cap us' he says even though their CV had just failed to de-cap and was returning his planes to re-arm so... couldn't. Also I was just arriving with my Myoko and a charged barrage. We drop 75% cap when he leaves and although our friendly ranger de-capped the enemy Cleve they also had a hatsuhari on cap and they won by cap. A little bit of me dies inside when I keep seeing such terrible decision making. -
I have only played 1 game in my Warspite recently and it was either tier 6 or tier 7. My memory is bad... but there certainly wasn't any tier 8
