  1. This is part of the problem - everyone seems obsessed with specifying who sits on the front line and who sits behind them but you cannot make such hard and fast rules. The reality is that you want the damage taken spread out across your team. Cruisers might be pretty brittle and definitely cannot take masses of fire and BBs might be far stronger but they still cannot take prolonged periods of concentrated fire. If they do then they will either 1) die (usually including DoT issues such as multiple fires) or be forced to backtrack. I try to be as aggressive as I can in my BB but you have to try and dip in and out of sustained fire to allow your repair/heal to regenerate.
  2. Certainly won't get to 500 battles. Might make 300. Focussing on CV (25 is easy) /DD/BB missions at the moment as I am also unsure whether I can make all kill missions. If I complete those then I will focus on the CA kills.
  3. I was out with the family on Saturday wondering through a seaside town when I saw a stall with some second hand crap in it. But, front row and centre was a 1,000 piece jigsaw filled with warships. I pickedup for a paltry £2.50 - bargain! If you look at the right hand side you can even see some bird crapon the box lid. I did originally post it on reddit but I thought I would put it here as well and see how you guys could get on naming all of the ships. The back of the box does actually give the ship name as well as the class where appropriate but class is ok

Sink the wows-stats (XVM for warships)

I don't want people having my stats at their finger tips. I used XVM in WoT and I even used on WoWs when it was bundled in Aslains (for less than a patch - haven't bothered installing it since. I know how I use it help determine my approach to a match. I don't want other people to be doing the same. The link to my stats is in my forum sig and people can have a look if they think it has some bearing on me when making a point about a ship or the game in the forums.
  5. My games were at around 8am UK time and they have counted. If you guys are missing XP then it might be that you think you earned more than you did or it isn't counting certain multipliers.
  6. We had a game yesterday with 2 v 6 DDs which is the biggest mismatch I've seen. but 2 v 8. Damn.
  7. I just hope it is recording from before the time I snuck in 2 games before work

    Texas in the premium shop.

I bought it because my Montana captain needs a bit of an upgrade (kept the NC and stuck a new captain into the Iowa). 1 more point and I have 2x lvl 4 skills on her.
  9. Ah. Well if that is the case, log out of the website. then go to one of the articles, follow the link through to the event website and then click join - it will make you login again and clear that up.
  10. Or here: http://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/special/special-fleetreview/ Or even here: http://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/special/grand-naval-battles-intro/ 3 News articles on the main page and Grandma finds fault with WG for it. I know what I find unbelievable...

    HMS Campbeltown

I don't want to derail this thread further but I have added my full captain skills on there to explain what I've done - AFT for example gives +20% range which is very useful since it can use the range - USN DDs have such crap high shell arcs it is hard to be effective at those ranges).

EsaTuunen (think I just butchered his name - sorry!) is really the guy to speak to about it - he sent me a load of advice a while back. I was also struggling massively with it to the point I hadn't taken it out for months but I had specced it as a torp destroyer when it is actually a gunboat so I swapped the modules and retrained the captain and I've never looked back. Expert marksman for the lvl 2 skill is essential because the turret rotation is horribly slow and gets something like a 50% boost from it. It has decent concealment meaning you can pick anc choose engagements and can invisi fire from about 11km away and that is without the level 5 concealment expert skill which means you can sit and annoy slow BBs and even CAs that can't even see you. This is quite easy because it has nice firing arcs (much better than the USN DDs). Mainly it is a case of using HE - you use it against DDs, BBs, CVs, angled CAs and most things above about 12km, I say angled because if a CA is 10km or less away from you then you can really punish it with AP because you are accurate and have a fearsome RoF - Just last night I killed a Phoenix in 3 salvoes (so about 12-15 seconds from when I opened fire) because it is citadel after citadel. Whilst you need to be a little wary of some of the other gunboat DDs (nicholas, farragut etc) it is perfectly capable of taking on any DD it meets really. And the torps - it might be a gunboat but it has great torps for its tier with decent range - you can easily stealth fire them and you can wreck lumbering BBs with them but it is situational. I use them defensively against DDs and then I decide whether I will shoot at a BB or close in and torp... and then shoot. So that is what it can do, but how best to do it? Well, I still haven't perfected it - too often I get caught out fighting a DD I shouldn't as once you learn what it can do then you sometimes find it gives you too much confidence. Often it depends on the map and team compositions. If they have lots of IJN DDs then I will head to their likely locations so that I can bully them and then take it from there. As I say ambushing cruisers at sub 10km range is a favourite pastime of mine as they think they are hunting you when they really are not. But if there is too much 'heat' then you can just retreat and annoy them with accurate 10-13km fire. EDIT: My skills look like: Level 1: Basic Fire Training (130mm guns mean faster reload) + Situational Awareness Level 2: Expert Marksman (will eventually have Last Stand too) Level 3: Superintendent (you could get vigilance I suppose, but parking in smoke and shooting people works really well if you have an ally to spot for you so more smoke = better) Level 4: Advanced Fire Training (extra range) Level 5: Concealment Expert

As long as they don't start selling the Gremy again. I like the look of envy on people's faces as I kill them with it

    very unbalanced game!

A tier 6 ship isn't supposed to be able to take on its +2 tier counterpart and stand a reasonable chance! A tier 6 BB is perfectly capable of putting some serious hurt onto a tier 8 BB in the right circumstances but of course it shouldn't be able to duke it out on equal terms. As Takeda says they can tear strips out of CAs still but as a captain of any ship you need to know what you are best at and how you can help your team the most.
  16. I understand perhaps not liking it, but people saying that they feeling like they let their team down in the first ever game - c'mon! Are people surprised at this? when it is so different to standard ships. 99% of CV captains probably sucked in their first ever CV game. Oh and as an aside, most people let their team down in the first ever games in all classes.
  17. The comments on here about playing CVs stun me slightly. 'I was crap in my first game in an entirely different ship class so I gave up'. What? Even good CV captains had had to play that first game. And the second slightly improved game. Everyone was new at CVs at one point and there is only really 2 ways of getting better. 1) read up on them (the odd youtube vid + the guides in both the newcomers section and CV section) and 2) practice!
  18. You can't be effective in a BB whilst staying at 20km + range the whole game. People might try but they will always struggle more than people who use some considered aggression. The NY is painfully slow and has crap range but that tends to be a bit of a USN BB issue up until you get to tier 8 but thankfully it is a good brawler.

    HMS Warspite Review :)

Wrong. And if there was to be any changes at all I would hope it would be a reduction in fire chance. But she is a great ship and the turret speed is easy to deal with if you, y'know, plan ahead.
  21. Get the Fuso, but ideally if you can free EXP to the B hull or above. That ship is an absolute animal. It will help you get to 100 ship kills in short order.
