    USS Missouri coming to WoWs

When they said that 800k was a place-holder I didn't for a second think the real price would be a pathetic 6.25% reduction to 750k (£7 cheaper). What a joke. Putting a ship on sale that effectively is being sold at £85 is insane. Sure, I can reduce that cost, but in order to do that I am already sacrificing progression on the ships I grind - I am suffering stock ships that I wouldn't otherwise and that is something that I am adding onto the price I have to pay. If I stockpile 200k free XP, it will still cost £63 and I wouldn't want to pay that much for a tier 9 even if it was the only cost! If it is £63 plus 200k free XP then it doesn't look remotely like value for money. And that is the problem - I don't mind spending money on the game (hell I've spent loads already) but their prices are steep already. I don't have any expectation that as a good customer I will be rewarded by them, but I do have an expectation that they won't stick their middle finger up at me whilst smiling and that is what this looks like.

Something needs to be done about BBs.

I would recommend watching this video: In it Flamu talks about reading games and picking when a cruiser, playing a support role, can pick their moment to grab the game by the short and curlies and change the course of a match. Hard to see sometimes, hard to execute, but when done right it can be devastating.

They are a support ship that play a support role - you just don't like what that looks like. I never got along with cruisers because I always pushed and got myself deleted. Now, I am finally trying to improve my skills in them and it is harder with the proliferation of BBs but I'm still learning and I'm getting better at the game for it. And nice selective quoting about playing a BB. That quote was DIRECTLY about what to do if you want tankiness and you put it into your reply a paragraph after saying that you don't expect them to be tanky. Nice. You also seem fixated on the idea that BBs can do everything a cruiser can but better and that is another misrepresentation of facts. As a generalisation cruisers have better concealment, fire faster, turn better and have more consumables (def AA, hydro, radar, heal, torps). Now, obviously there differences between cruiser lines but we have to do some generalisation. On the other side you have BBs. Sure they have some huge advantages, but I want to talk about you seeming to think they have taken everything away from cruisers. I'm not sure I agree with the direction of giving BBs abilities that cruisers have but to put it in perspective: 3 have torps (historic ability of those BBs and they are short range). 3 have hydo and 1 will have radar. That to me doesn't add up to them being able to do everything CAs can do but better. I also feel that you are painting me as a BB defender when actually I am well aware of the issues with cruiser gameplay but I am actually arguing against your unbalanced point of view rather than the unbalanced nature of cruisers. It is hard to take people seriously when they refuse to look at problems objectively. On an aside about CVs... you maybe need to clarify your position because it looks like you are saying that CVs don't get played because BBs can do everything and do it better. CVs are played less due to a) learning curve (i.e how they work, AA mechanics etc) b) UI c) difference to other classes d) economy. CVs certainly haven't been broken by the BB meta and as such they have no place in the discussion in that context. If, your answer to the BB meta is making CVs more powerful then I should remind you that CVs are, right now, really powerful. If you want to tackle CVs (and we are straying off topic here) then you need to look at several aspects including making their massive alpha damage more manageable (i.e. perhaps more attacks but with less damage), the UI, economy and how fighters work.

Some interesting info around the world

Not from RU, and centred on the NA server so dates may well be different for us, but: If you can't watch then summary is: Ship never seen before on the server will be in a bundle for Black Friday. EDIT: predictions being Spee or Oleg... or maybe Shinonome No date for IJN Split Mighty MO will be in the game in the next couple of weeks with no price specified (Free XP to purchase) They balance ships based on stats from all servers, not based on meta from individual regions They watch all social media for complaints and review them (Such as the Montana deck armor buff) for legitimacy

    USS Missouri coming to WoWs

Just dragging this up to the top: Video here suggests it will be here in the 'next couple of weeks' and certainly within the next couple of months: This is welcome news, as although I have boosted my free XP up by 100k in the past fortnight, I have now started to unlock ships and would really like to throw some free XP at them (FdG and Essex both bought, Danae very close). Originally I welcomed the advance warning about free XP, but now I am sulking that I cannot use it where I need it.

Emerald. Again a light cruiser. If you expect them to be tanking anything then you are being crazy. I don't know whether it is a lack of understanding on your part or whether you want a cruiser's armour to behave differently than it did in reality. You cannot just stamp your feet and demand a ship be able to do something it was never designed to do. You clearly don't seem to look at a ship and say "how does it work? how can I make myself be effective in it?" so maybe you need to ask the question "what cruiser allows me to play the way I want to?". Some of the heavy cruisers you see at the higher tiers can properly tank the damage but CLs (including all RN cruisers) cannot and to be fair they shouldn't be able to. It really doesn't matter whether you want to accept it or not. So if you want something that is tankier get a CA and if you want something even tankier... you really need to play a BB.
  8. I saw Takeda92 in a battle in my team but only when I looked at the results post battle. I was distracted early on as our top tier FdG said something along the lines of 'bye' and when I enquired why it was the tier 8 Lexington on each team. Not sure why he was too bothered by it. On the other hand, me in my Bismarck took the full brunt of a strike Lexi who knew what he was doing. Although I only ate 1 torp first time round he got plenty of fires started and when my repair stopped a Zao put 2 fires on me and an Atago a 3rd before I could get to cover. After watching 3 fires burn out I had barely repaired when the Lex returned I was gone.... so perhaps I should have been sulking at the CV! Really short game for me, but I did get a double citadel on the Zao to thank him for the 2 fires so that lifted me from the bottom of our team but with Takeda near the top it was a comfortable win for the team.

You need to make sure that you are not permanently in the limelight. CAs are juicy targets and particularly something like Nurnberg. Using islands or just distance to become unspotted is necessary and once they switch their attention you can open up again.

    Make t9-10 own matches

It is amazing how many times I see people of -2 tiers really complaining in chat. As much as it can be frustrating if it happens too often (particularly in the tier 5 hell-zone that currently exists), I actually like the variation and how it forces you to think more about where you go and what you do to still be effective in the game.
  11. This is a reply from someone who cannot see further than the the end of their nose. It is amazing how many players think that unless a CV stops all attacks on their ships and spots all destroyers (probably at the same time) then the CV is not helping. When they are 2 against 1 in their BB and you delete one of the enemies to make it 1v1 that isn't help. When you take 50% health from an enemy BB and force them to turn broadside allowing the BB to get citadels, that isn't help. When you reset the cap so that your team can win the cap race it isn't helping. When you force the enemy to use their repair by causing flooding so that the team can farm DoT and finish the enemy, that isn't help. AS loadouts are a waste of time. Ironically, the Bogue AS setup is the most viable USN AS CV and this is compounded by the fact that it happens early in the CV ladder. It can be a tough loadout for new CV players to face and it fools some people into thinking it is the best way to play. AS loadouts are a badly implemented a noose around the neck of their own team. I enjoy facing them. To the OP: First up you need to be patient - try to only engage his fighters when you want to. Your fighters exist only to tie up his and you need to accept they will die - the trick is to make their sacrifice mean something by giving your strike planes time to get past them and onto the enemy. You can use strafing to make him pay more and try to use friendly AA, but you should never expect to win the air war. Luckily at tier 5 he will often use both his fighters to take out yours, which he will easily do but you have a small window to get past and do some serious damage. If he is more intelligent then you have to work harder at dragging his fighters out of the way of your planes - you probably need to sacrifice a fighter and 1 strike squad - try and get him to chase a DB squad way out of position and then sneak your TBs past - your real damage source is your TBs. If you run out of fighters then split your strike force up and keep it unspotted as long as you can. You can again bait him by, for example, letting him spot your DB on the right flank - make it look like you are attacking there. Chances are it will make him move his fighters over to block you and once he does that you can push the left flank with your TBs. It isn't ideal, and can make for a frustrating and slow game, but learning how to deal with AS loadouts early will help you in the long run - I still see AS Essex at tier 9 which is stupid, but they hold no fear for me now. And remember, if you land 3-4 torpedoes (achievable in 1 attack run) you have already done far more damage than the enemy CV will. All your extra damage is a bonus.
  12. It would be nice if it was CV torps too - getting 25 or so per game in the Taiho would soon get it done! I've pretty given up on this mission as I don't particularly want to spend games chasing torp hits. I was ok pushing it up until I finished my Fletcher grind. I will keep playing my Fletcher, Gearing and Ibuki and if it looks like I am getting close by mid December I might actually focus on it specifically.

Normal credit. Clues are item 1 being a credit reward and then you getting 3 smallish rewards tells you it isn't a SC which (usually) gives you 1 big reward. In these circumstances though you got good standard rewards. As EoN said, the game picks for you at the end of the day if they are not claimed but it only picks between credit/flag and camo - if you want to TYL then you have to pick that for yourself.

Something needs to be done about BBs.

No, the problem with the Tirpitz is that it simply cannot shoot down planes remotely fast enough to stop you taking big damage - as a CV you don't even need to be overly concerned with your approach like you might against the Bismarck. As for the Gneisenau, yea it can be a bit prickly to the Hiryu, but you can come at it from favourable angles but Saipan doesn't care and even the Ranger can expect to land 4 torps if he goes for it. Scharnhorst is a joke unless someone specs for AA but it is a questionable choice. As for the Bismarck in a T8 CV, I wouldn't take the decision to attack it early game lightly, but if there was nothing else then damn right I would go for it. And even without that, as the game progresses and he takes dmg it gets easier and easier. Any more 'ifs' to add to the start of your statement? I didn't realise you were going to pick extremes in order to argue your point. Picking AFT and manual AA is simply not the standard (or best) captain skills for any of those ships. As such most people simply don't do it. And because it isn't a very popular set up it also means that most of your opponents will not have it when you attack them with your CV. That is before you take into account the average skill level of players you meet i.e. crap. You seem to think I'm only coming at this from a BB player's perspective (they are my most played class by far) but I play all classes and I play a lot of CV. I'm not guessing about how well a Ranger or Hiryu can deal with a Scharnhorst - I have seen it. I have seen it over and over again. I'm not guessing about Bismarck or Tirptiz either. Been there, done that, made it work. You would have us believe that most of the maps are a no go area because of epic KM AA but whilst it is strong enough for me to be wary it doesn't stop me from performing in a CV. It also doesn't stop you.

Something needs to be done about BBs.

    3. No it doesn't. 4. I have the Scharnhorst, Tirpitz and Bismarck and only 1 of those has AA you have to be wary of in same tier CV. The Scharnhorst and Tirpitz are easy prey to CVs and even the Bismarck is an ok target if it is alone and you plan your attack well. I know this from both sailing around in those BBs and attacking them in my CVs. Hell, in my Taiho I'll happily attack any KM BB because their lack of torp protection and large health pool make them attractive targets.

You have to be in game and check your achievements - there is one that you need to open 1k containers and it will tell you how many you have opened towards that total.
  17. Can't say I have seen toxicity levels change during the event. Or do you just mean it increases your toxicity levels?
  18. Dasha looking bored was still the best thing about that video. Some of those suggestions were ridiculous. I gave up watching after she went. EDIT: "Hey let's make planes fly out of range of AA above ships #lolz"
  19. Got the Nachi a few days back... it isn't like I'm ever going to use it but it is nice to have. This weekend I held back on 2 kills to let someone else get their SN kills - I wasn't guaranteed to get them but I probably would have, but there were other ships shooting at them and I had alternative targets so switched. I think I'm going to call it quits on the 200 torps mission - I would rather progress some lines than play elited ships chasing torp kills.

I need to check my total opened. I think it is between 60 and 70. 3 SC. And you get Nechrom posting how he has 7 from the same number - I am a special kind of lucky! Some dubloons - maybe 500? 250 flags that give you a pathetic increase in fire chance. 5 mil credits.
  21. 2 games this morning. Saw 3 on the enemy team (plus some on ours). Didn't kill any but that was more to do with other priorities such as trying to win.

    How MM plays against players

How? The event ran from 11-14th. The stats on warships.today says from the 10-14th (so starting the day before) I played 39 games and my win rate rose 0.11 percent. You don't get that from a losing streak.

    How MM plays against players

I think you are mis-reading slightly. I had a bad week last week (culminating in the low point of the 10th on the graph i.e. Thursday) and then it has been flying up since. My memory is bad so maybe Friday was pretty mediocre too and that was in the special but certainly most of the weekend was a good one for me. As much as some games I'm unlucky and some games are just un-winnable I can attribute much of my losing streak last week to over-tiredness. I guess you could maybe make the argument that the 3x keeps players playing long after their concentration has dropped as they hunt that XP bonus.
  25. ilhilh

    How MM plays against players

Even if there is an influx in potatoes and casual players at the weekend, there is no effort by the matchmaker to put them all on your team. So, if the standard drops at weekends then it drops for the matches as a whole, and if you put your shoulder pads on you can still carry to victory.
