Seriously, need help with Des Moines (not a whine thread)
C4PT41N_0BV10US replied to je1419's topic in General Discussion
Well, there is room for improvement But, to be honest, US CA are underperfoming all the way up from tier VII, and are the most difficult CA to play. Even if any1 would like to play them as AA escort - with missing carriers from tier VIII upwards - it's pointless. I also analise my own stats from time to time, and I'm always reminded how US CA perform when I look at my Baltimore stats. Appaling win rate and average dmg lower then Kuma ffs. -
You guys are making just one mistake. You assume, it would be "logical" or "historical" to have certain ships at certain spots, as in reality they did have such and such capabilities - which is wrong. WoWs being an arcade game can and has already proven that such things are irrelevant. The most important thing is balance here, and tier VI is particular hard to balance due to way the tech tree is designed. However, I think, that St Louis should be on tier VI and be a similar ship to Nurnberg, with slower rate of fire, and very weak AP ammo, mediocre HE ammo, and pre war AA configuration. Add to that mediocre armour and rather large citadel and we would have a nice tier VI vessel. Or, we could move St Louis to tier VII and place Oakland at tier VI. It would even smooth the progress. As for CA - I don't really care that Aoba has 4 guns front - it's a good vessel right now, despite Cleveland and Nurnberg having much more guns - which already shows that the numbers can be tweaked either way to balance stuff. You had a wrong assumption, that I think that a ship is weak/strong and as such it should be moved - no. I had the feeling of progress in mind with what I posted. Right now, the feeling of progress is hindered by the few qualities of the cleveland. What I had in mind was creating a outright separation at tier V - in both trees you instantly now you play different specialisation, with super heavy and slow loading Pensacola, and nimble and guns blazing St Louis/Oakland at the CL line. And calling me insane is, well, not nice, but accurate

Now, please, don't get offended or anything, but such stuff is surprisingly common on high tier CA's so maybe I don't complain about it cause I'm already used to it You don't have any tier VIII CA (that's the spot when multiple citadels begin to happen more often), so you might think Omaha/Cleveland durability is standard - it's not. Nurnberg durability is how the CA looks right now on tier VII up. Recently I got detonated (and I mean detonated) in Des Moines from 95% HP. What's more, after a quick breath during 5.1 (which I quite enjoyed - poor BB players though), I almost got sunk by Amagi shooting at me from 16 km. He managed to hit me with 1 shell in each salvo, each shell penetrated airplane hangar on stern and resulted in citadel hit - I was running on vapours from tier VIII BB. Since BB playerbase is enormous, and you could see how forums exploded after 5.1 - you either drop playing CA above tier V, or get used to losing 70% of HP due to derpships who just clicked randomly in your direction from anywhere between 15 to 23 km. -
Check post #13 - I've already mentioned Fargo as a tier IX CL
-
@pirit Worcester is already in game files, and it's a tier X CL for the time being. It might change, but I actually think it fits tier X profile. Tier VI should be St. Louis/Helena class, and buffed Atlanta/Oakland class at tier VII, Cleveland at tier VIII would be perfect in my opinion. This would open few possibilities for heavy cruiser tree - Portland class as tier VII for example? Or just move Pensa, NO and Balti 1 tier lower, and add Oregon City as tier IX. That would fit nicely. @Admiral You are kinda right with skill needed for tier VIII fights. But, well, you gotta learn it someday right? And what ship is better to do it then buffed Cleveland?

But what are you exactly talking about? Detonations or easy to hit citadel? I've finished grinding Nurnberg while ago, before 5.1 and I didn't notice any problems with detonations on it. I think it didn't happen to me at all. It's of course a small number of games, but still. I got quite a lot citadel hits though. I understand what are you talking about. You dislike the ship vulnerability - armour, citadel and module dmg - while acknowledging it advantages. Which, all in all, sums up for you as a bad ship design. As with Konigsberg, because from time to time you feel you were punished randomly for not making any mistake at all. I didn't have such problems or observations. Sure, I've suffered from engine/steering dmg from time to time, but 99% of those situations were my mistakes - I've exposed myself too fast, too early and way too aggressive. When I was exchanging shots on 12 km range - engine dmg doesn't really matter - i just stopped shooting and drifted away. However, I agree it's not the most forgiving vessel to drive - my stats in it are actually way below my average stats for CA's (didn't statpad it during 5.1 CA MASTERRACE event). So, either it's not suited for my playstyle, or it suffers a bit too much from it's flaws. -

Actually, I've met more Nurnbergs then Clevelands. And from all those Nurnbergs, only one actually knew how to play this ship and how to deal with BB's. Also, a lot of Konigsbergs were present. I only played one game in Atago on tier VII - VIII rankeds, but in that one game, there was Admiral Hipper already. -
I don't really know I know it's out of place on tier VI, and it can't stay there without being OP or UP. From what I know, there will be CL line added to the US cruisers in future, and Cleveland will be moved to different tier. I think, it should land on tier VIII, with Oakland class as tier VII and Fargo class as tier IX and Worcester at tier X. If that indeed would happen, then it should be fairly easy to balance it - flatten arc and/or increase shell speed. RoF can stay as it is now (if lower tier, decrease RoF to stock level with improving balistics), increase range to around 16 km, decrease armour, increase mobility. Of course, AFT should be unavailable to cruisers. Also, make them a bit more DD/CA killers, with improved sonar (8 km range for example). That should create a distinct line of cruisers with nice RoF spam theme and different role on the field, without hindering their ability to fight BB and other CA's too much. But like I said, I'm no game dev, and I'm also biased as a CA player, soooo.

Um, don't know if you noticed, but my choice for tier IV perk is actually Demoliton Expert, so it's already included CE provides you with enough stealth to reach IJN levels of range detection which truly helps. You will be spotted only by DD without spotting it itslef - that's a crucial information - it also means, DD is closer then 10 km from you. If you get spotted by a CA, you usually spot it himself a second after you are spotted - and you are in 10 km range - which usually means short work for your guns. With 12,5 km range, you get spotted about 2 km before you can spot IJN counterparts, which gives them enough time to slow down, alter course and, in essence, stay undetected, while you're lighted up - it's vital to avoid such situation. You have to maximise your chances of spot enemy CA - you can only do that with max concealment as it will leave enemy captain without time to respond to your presence. Captain Perks are more or less personal playstyle. I recomend my build cause it proved right to me over and over again, especially with lack of CV in high tier games. But I'm sure there's also a viable alternative, but it demands different playstyle. "sniping" as such is not recommended by me. You should snipe only at the beginning of battle, when first scouting start and you engage the enemy while you wait for game to reach it's proper tempo. After that you should try to look for opportunities, while having in mind those three priorities we talked about earlier. You just have to be super carefull when you Situational Awarness comes up, and you see a BB nearby Hope to meet you on battlefield some day :d -

Bro, I asked few questions man I wasn't aware if you know he played destroyer, and a tier VII premium one. If asking two question is aggressive for you... well. Peace out man -
@Admiral Well, British were pragmatical, and soon as it was possible they just used US planes. Although late war Barracuda TB was good, also, Sea Fury was one of the best propelled fighters. So, I expect low tier UK CV's to have rather poor planes. Fulmar, Swordfish, Albacore were also subpar, but they were suited for naval warfare. Hurricane and Spitfire were "converted" to aircraft carrier fighters and suffered from same faults. All in all, early UK sea aircraft were poor, But remember they fighted with much better opponents due to how UK midwar military politics - Zero outclassed anything British could throw at it until US stuff arrived. But late war constructions were good quality and performed well. So it could actually be cool to have mixed planes with mixed capabilities in game - just a thought. We were discussing some CV stuff some time ago, and I had two ideas back then - a spotter plane which decreases dispersion of allied ships while marking opponent ships, and fighter bombers - fighters with bombs. It might be cool to incorporate them in game and make them for example german specific.

CE is more usefull, then just provide you stealth shooting. It helps you stay undetected while repositioning, it helps you fight with DD's - they spot you only when you fire, or are very close to you if you hold your fire - risk detection and sinking. Combination of situational awarness and concealment expert provides you with lots of informations, but you have to max it. -
It doesn't need a biff, it needs a rework and different tier.

Des is a specific vessel, and you need a bit of patience and skill to make it work. First - make sure to skill you Captain properly. Des is very vulnerable to BB fire, so it's important to provide as much stealth as possible. What you need is: I tier: Situational Awarness and Basics of Survivability II tier: Expert Marksman III tier: Superintendent and, after your reach tier V, High Alert IV tier: actually, what suits you best, I chose Demolition Expert due to heavy BB meta. Faster and more fires helps a bit. V tier: Concealment Expert With installed Concealment System Modification you can stealth shoot from 16.3 km, with 18,4 km range. On long range engagements, with BB present, try to target BB first. Aim for superstructures and just burn them. You should be looking for 3k - 6k salvoes each 6 seconds. With 2 fires burning you can put some hurt on those battleships if you can constantly shoot them. If BB's are not present - don't shoot. Close the distance to 12 - 13 km using your stealth advantage, position yourself accordingly (plan if you are going to pursue or run away), and then let go. If you have your opponent on broadside - shoot AP, otherwise spam HE. If you will find BB on same range (12 km or less), shoot HE to start fire, and then switch to AP - also aim for superstructures. Always, bear in mind - despite being heavy crusier, you are very very fragile. If you have some buddies - try platooning with Yamato/Montana. You can provide AA cover for them, while their usually tank damage, which leaves you just letting go salvo after salvo. If you play alone, play three roles. 1. CA killer - there is no better CA killer on below 13 km range. Zao and Hindenburg can't compare with your dps. However, be carefull with engaging above that range - despite RoF you will be at disadvantage. 2. BB burner - you can try and finish heavily wounded BB. Look for opportunities - 1/4 HP BB and alone? Go for it. However, be always carefull and angle yourself. 3. Escort - try to help your BB/CV/DD - you can react quickly and deliver immense dmg momentarily, which can help your teammates to escape sticky situation. When you're in trouble - stop shooting. After 20 sec you will dissapear if there is no DD very close to you. After you vanish - just reposition yourself and/or wait for HP replenish. I stream some games with Des on occasions, so you can catch me on Twitch and ask/division with me anytime -
Atago is the only tier VIII CA that gets Repair Party ability. Tier IX is when CA get theirs across all factions.

My only gripe with German CV's are the poor aircraft they would carry. Both Stuka and BF 109 are, well, not suited for naval warfare and operating from CV - one of the reasons the development of Graf was so slow and painfull. They couldn't resolve the landing issue. Land aircraft converted for naval warfare were performing below expectations. So despite doing good in land based operations, they are inferior to Wildcat's, SBD's, Zeros etc.

[0.5.1] Wargaming actually fixed the US cruisers
C4PT41N_0BV10US replied to Sander93's topic in Cruisers
Actually Sander, that's best average dmg on all servers, so you're pretty badass My recent (last two weeks averages) oscillate around 110 - 120k, but I already has 100 games in it, so I'm pretty experienced. I think Des performs now better then pre 5.1/5.1.1, but still it has some issues which hold him back to be a good/very good cruiser. Mainly citadel size/toughness and shells trajectory and speed. Other then that it's decent -

Jeżeli teoretycznie rozpatrujesz build pod 18 punktów, to wywalasz EM z II tieru i bierzesz albo Jack of all trades, albo AFT i BFT, albo AFT i Expert Loader. -
