I've dived on the M2 which lies in 30 meters of water off Chesil Beach, I think she was sunk because the aircraft hanger door was opened while submerged(I bet the guy that pushed the button got an almighty bollocking) I think I have some pictures somewhere I'll have to dig them out. And as a footnote the M1 was sunk in a collision with a Swedish collier off Star Point in Devon and lies in about 70 Meters of water. Andy XXXX

The one I always remember though is U 35 which sunk 224 ships during WWI the commander of which was Lothar von Arnauld de la Perière. He was and still is the submarine commander with the highest amount of tonnage sunk during war. Andy XXXX

The Kursk disaster was avoidable. 1. If the vessel and torpedoes had been properly maintained. 2. 100 meters of water is nothing to escape from with US and UK submarine escape apparatus unfortunately the Russians still equipped subs with inferior escape equipment. Another one Cragrat-A member of the MAWC(Mountain and Arctic Warfare Cadre) now called ML's(Mountain Leaders) and part of the Brigade Recon Unit. Every RM Troop has to have at least one member who is an ML, this was my specialization in the latter years of my service. And Cheesy hammy eggy was another of my favourite meals. Andy XXXX

As an ex Bootie myself I can relate to this thread. But you've missed out Babies Heads=Steak and Kidney puddings which was one of my favourite meals, oh and Bag Rats= A packed lunch(Normally consisting of a stale cheese sandwich, bag of crisps, choccie biccy and a piece of fruit usually well passed it's sell by date!!!. Also as a footnote I had my head stitched up by Rick Jolly during the Falklands War and also got an almighty bollocking to boot for the Royals Marines habit of not wearing tin on our heads during battle. Speed in Modern warships isn't a design quality anymore, stealth however is, today's modern warships are designed to have the lowest radar signature possible and speed would increase the radar signature. Here's a picture of a modern stealthy warship.
