Once you get to rank one you enter a separate league in which you can only use tier 5 ships and you don't get or lose any points, but you do get special rewards (such as this container)

This is quit the problem you have here -
Which is exactly why a separate tree would never work....because some ships would basically be cruisers and others battleships (by wows standards)
