Perhaps that is why they were testers, because they understand balanced reward/effort? ;) We'd all like super-duper rewards, but then we'd have to do super'duper things to achieve them, not just the side effect of more or less standard battling. AIGF

Actually, I hadn't considered [read as totally forgotten about], the 'reached zero points' condition... which is going to be it (will check my replays when I get home). TY True enough, but I have dived in and out of the game over the years and this must have slipped my mind (getting old waiting for the RN to be fully represented in an early 20th century naval game you know ;) ) - although I do not recall it having occurred to me previously, so just a combination of timings.

Well the Russian navy did achieve quite a few things in WW1 so it is something of a surprise (that is a serious comment, they really did, and I don't just mean starting the revolution). But Jutland remains a mystery - why would a naval game that uses ships from 1900 through to 1950 ignore the battle the involved the largest concentration of the WORLDS naval power, probably, throughout history (Actium perhaps, or Salamis as possibles, but I do not know Chinese/far eastern naval strengths of the time).

A nice piece - thank you. I have the gallant and enjoy her (but then I try to enjoy all the ships, for me I just need to have that' oh, this is how to drive this ship' kind of battle to keep on playing them).

just when we though things where getting better

Well the IJN does need a T8 premium BB, and this looks to fit the bill very nicely. -
Deepwater torps, so battleships can have more fun because if you want to contest a cap, you can't hurt them

It might be interesting to see some stat's on who gets hit most by torps at present to get a better view?- 330 replies

LoL - that is an interesting concept and ought to be in game - 'dynamic' maps... :)

Actually, no on 2 points. 1). Other than Hood, no RN battlecruiser was sunk by a battleship, certainly not at Jutland. All the BC losses were against other BC's (German variety). 2) the BC force (later Fleet) was never a part of the main battleline. The issues with the RN concept of the BC has been debated ever since Jutland - but came down to 'their armour was penetrated', 'the hit hit something fragile and dangerous', 'that something exploded catastrophically'. The German BC's took as many hits as the RN BC's and in the same locations but didn't explode (Seydlitz at both Dogger Bank and again at Jutland had barbette/turret penetrations that caused the 'stacked in the isles' ammunition to burn up, but it didn't explode. HMS Lion took more capital ship caliber hits than any other Battle cruiser (or capital ship, don't recall if both and away from sources) at Jutland and still survived (only just mind you due to 1 hit), so the ships were never as fragile as 'conventional wisdom' makes out.. perhaps just the cordite used. Edit - Silly me - just noted the date that this thread was opened, sorry Aotearas.

This reminds me of the start of WW1 and the RN submarines - all the guys who set the depth level for the torpedo's fired had trained on practice torps and not live ones - live torp warheads were a different weight to practice ones and needed different settings to work correctly.... it took them a while to work out just why they weren't hitting anything when they launched them.....- 330 replies

Because it would be most improbable to arrive at that position on purpose (possibly convert to that position, but even then, getting the right value to be able to convert to that point is.. improbable, although more probable than getting there accidentally).

I finds myself pleasantly surprised at the number of stationary ships, just waiting for a single fire torp or 2, if you can get into range undetected, yes you can stealth torp, just... it's not regular, but frequent enough to be noticeable. Plus very useful for deceiving ships rushing your smoke "oh he has fired..I can rush... OMG!"

I quite enjoyed the Myogi - I think that the play style suited me.

Premium - Atlanta (joining the crowd a bit) - extreme fun when you can get her to work, but risks making you paranoid in most battles. Silver 1) Emerald as was (no smoke or heal). But she is better now (although only 2 games in her since the buffing). 2) Current, Karlsruhe, T4 German CL, no armour, worse shell trajectories than Atlanta (and much fewer guns...). With dis-honourable mention to Konigsberg.

In WoT WG asked the community to 'go forth and find' provable historical cammo patterns and implemented some of them - hope that they do the same for WoWs.

Why has no one complained about the Fujin cammo - awful. (Although I think that the Star and Stripes cammo is worse, garish comes to mind, sorry Yanks).

Had a couple like that yesterday, earned me a fireproof in my Hood (LOTS of HE spam), other time I was in my Graff Spee and came unstuck, should have been a good game for her (only ship I couldn't get my daily in yesterday)

You only paid €70 euro's... wow.. cheapskate.. how do you expect the game to survive unless you buy the full monty and top that up by another 20-30 euro's? ;)

^^ this, but they are not that common in game.

T8 Game in my Atago (Division with an Ognevoi and another Atago) - had a good battle up to the last few minutes, turned away to start to hide, heal up and stay alive, didn't quite make it, died. But... :D My last salvo of 4 torps towards the Prinz Eugen I was dueling with (among others) I managed 2 hits on him (sunk) AND 1 strike of a Fubuki (sunk) - so double whammy twice. "Double strike" and "double It's just a flesh wound". Hadn't even realised that the Fubu was there, hoped to get the Fuso as an alternative to the Prinz if anything. -
Fairly similar to myself. Wa-hoo an online naval game where I can pew pew other ships/people without needing a football pitch, very long rulers and lots of dice. Then came along the dreaded 'why am I dying so quickly', "oh, that's why, hur-duh", then settle down to actually play the game and not just splash around pointlessly shooting stuff like 'Sir' David Beatty tried.

Thought I would post this as a tribute to a DD player who knows what to do. Me Scharnhorst (not my best ship, but doing better since Flamu as tutor, via you tube), DD in Leningrad - a good battle that could have gone sour for me very quickly. https://replayswows.com/replay/2878 Nothing earth shattering other than actual team work and support - this is to say thank you to the DD driver. Those who watch, I hope you appreciate the guy also.

I'd never heard of him either - just watched 3 on the trot - superb! Tty for the link

Jingles does freely admit that he sucks in WoWs... but he is knowledgeable about ships and history. But.. he gets sent a lot of very good games by others which he publshes, hence an enjoyable change of pace from the serious approach. At the end of the day, there are a number of you tubers, a case of find the ones that help you.

No, it is the first sign of wisdom - understanding that you don't know everything and there is more to learn. use some of the game statistic tracking websites to see how you are doing in your ships compared to others. Try and think about why you are better in some than others. Check out some you-tubers for advice and 'over the shoulder watching' to pick up gameplay tips and advice. Some people on the forums know what they are speaking about, others just think they know when it comes to understanding the game :) [note that I am not offering advice on how to play your ships! ;) ] Stat tracking - http://www.wowstats.org/ http://wows-numbers.com/ https://eu.warships.today/ All 3 are different but use the same data. You tubers that I watch - Flamu is the better of the 2, but Jingles is very entertaining and generally presents very good games by others. https://www.youtube.com/user/cheesec4t - Flamu https://www.youtube.com/user/BohemianEagle - Jingles These forums are a good source of all sorts of stuff, some is even extremely useful.
