HMS SIRIUS - Dido-class AA Cruiser as a premium t7

Well, if you want new ships, at least provide some more research than a copypaste and two pictures from wikipedia, because that's not very serious... -
HMS SIRIUS - Dido-class AA Cruiser as a premium t7

Umm. Copy-pasting from wikipedia much?

Yes, well, I have discounted that. Still as you go through the tiers, the penetration seems to drop off compared to the scaling of the opposition.

A Detailed look at Project 1047 Battlecruiser (Lert)
piritskenyer replied to Trainspite's topic in Battleships
Oh she's most definitely 7. Waroch and myself have worked up an alternative AA suite to make her fit better at 7, but she'd just be too powerful for T6 and definitely at T5. I mean those guns are beastly, they leave the 28cm's depicted in this very thread in the dust.- 67 replies

Like you weren't independent to begin with.

I'll try my best as well, although my idea includes the unification of the two smokestacks into a single funnel much like that of Warspite, deletion of the after superstructure (the short one between turrets II and III) and the after tripod mast, a more massive forward tripod mast that is built up two stories high, and some more AA. I like the rangefinder on the top of the forward tripod mast, may keep that feature. Probably a lot of things combined: bad aerodynamic shape coupled with small propellant charge either because of powder power or because of small chamber volume. May also be because of loose fit in the barrel. Can be a number of things. Case in point is that it's a bad gun, probably more useful at spewing HE in spades than actual AP Don't worry about the 340mm. It's comparable to a 305mm in power, and it's nowhere near as powerful a weapon as the 14" guns the Myogi has at T4. Pre-dreadnought's are a no-go, especially in a regular tree. If you're gonna throw money away for one, sure I guess.

It actually should be possible unless the increased 130mm gun debuff applies to VMF cruisers as well.
-
Nathan Okun's calculations from the navweaps page show rather poor penetration figures, in the likes of 7.5" (190mm) of complete penetration at 16000 yards (14600m).

Arguing with S4h3L is the most pointless thing after trying to reason with geralt on this forum.

It's funny because in game the T5 shows to have the same velocity (840m/s) on both APand HEas the T6, 7, 8 AND 9. The only IJN 8" gun that gets better hard stats is the Zao's guns which get 920m/s.
-
Estimated it to be around 10300-10800 because of the penetrating power alone. I'm glad to say that in terms of armour penetration the 28cm/54.5 doesn't even come close to the 330mm. The 28cm penetrates 291mm's at 18'500 metres, while the 330mm does the same a whole 9000metres further out... Courbet can get 5 turrets to a broadside, that can be offset with soft stats. It's not ideal, but I think it can be balanced. Bretagne got to T4 because those 340mm guns are utter rubbish. 10 of them isn't gonna make much of a difference. Normandie got a slightly improved version of that gun, and Lyon got the same, but until T7 the French BB's are pretty much gonna be big grinders before the powerhouses. As for the pictures, I apologise, I got sidetracked into easier projects like the Pensacola rework and a possible T8 PR US CA suggestion, which are all far easier than playing pseudo- naval architect and rebuilding Normandie and Lyon with imaginary interwar upgrades and refits in AutoCAD. It's all in my head, I'd just need to get about doing it. Here's a little table depicting the possible weapon systems used in the different classes Year of introduction Tier Calibre [mm] Calibre length AP damage HE damage Mounts Gun/mount RoF [r/m/b] Mount AP DPM Mount HE DPM 1906 III 305 45 8200 5000 Twin 2 2 32800 20000 1902 IV 340 45 9500 5500 Twin 2 2 38000 22000 1912 V-VI 340 45 9600 5600 Quad 4 1.8 69120 40320 1931 VII 330 50 10800 5300 Quad 4 2.3 99360 48760 1933 VIII-IX (X?) 380 45 11600 6000 Quad 4 2.3 106720 55200 1920 X? 450 45 14200 7000 Triple 3 2 85200 42000 The gun in the lower row is a weapon briefly discussed by Waroch and myself. As for all things French, Waroch is going to be of immense help if you guys are interrested.

Undergunned my ar$e. Those 330mm guns have extremely flat trajectory and tremendous penetration (over 290mm's at 27000m - in comparison, the 16"/45 guns on the Colorado could penetrate only about 10mm's more at the same range). They lack in the plunging fire department because of their flat arcs, but it's a price I'm willing to pay. Those guns are gonna be every BB cpt's wet dream: point, pull the trigger, and penetration happens.

Atago's guns are basically the same they have been since T5, which means you also get the same AP, which doesn't scale that well to the opposition (the penetration is okay, but the normalisation angles are not very good). If you can catch an enemy CA broadside you can punish them hard, in any other case you're best off firing your excellent HE rounds (3300dmg +17% firechance without DE). Since you're accurate as hell, you'll be slamming BB's for 2-5k salvoes, and if you're lucky, set them on fire. I once burned a Yamato to death by hosing him with HE, and I ended up doing 70k+ firedamage to him alone.

No, stats can only make someone estimate how good or bad a ship is. In order to know you have to play said ship. Example: Stats say the Pensacola is a ship that everyone without exception should consider as rubbish, yet, some people do very well with her. -

The last time I died to fire was because I made a noob mistake and accidentally used my damage repair derp, I mean control for nothing :|

To be honest I think it will make a good increase to the ship's support DPM where you get to lay down the hurt onto enemy targets that aren't looking at you. The turn time reduction doesn't seem dramatic, and the increased rate of fire allows you to outgun same tier cruisers. I'm gonna take it once I have researched it.

A wet trout to the face is still a nicer approach even if taken as a physical threat compared to mine which involves a heavy object and the rear of the skull of some people...
