Wargaming Europe - Job Openings in our Paris Office!

  2. Yeah, well, the HE shell design according to Navweaps was to weight 4000lbs (1814 kgs), and based on other shells, that would amount to a filler weight of anywhere between 100 - 130kgs of TNT/RDX filler. So yeah...

Only she did not. She was only unwieldy in high winds at slow speed, but was rather maneuverable otherwise.

The 15" proposal entailed a new gun design. Navweaps to follow: As seen here the new guns would have been a radical change compared to their predeccessor and would have been in all respects similar to the guns carried by Bismarck. As also highlighted here, the KGV class went with 14" and stuck to them basically from the start, despite studies indicating that the 15" would have been more desireable.

Escalation clause. And yes, I have. Except unlike you, I know a few more things than that, including the fact that the US could use the EC because the design having provisions for being rearmed with 16" guns, while the new British BB design (you guessed it, KGV) didn't have any such provisions, due to British political leadership trusting the pieces of paper Hitler put a signature on, so when excrement hit the propeller the Brits were stuck with the 14". I repeat: the KGV was not intended to be armed with 15/16" guns. Were her competing designs intended to be armed as such? Yes. Did those designs win? No.

Point out to me where that was ever intended to arm the KGV class? There was a design study with 16" guns, and that was the first to be thrown away. So no, they were never intended to be armed with 16" guns. This is for everyone: As someone already pointed out, the 15" proposal was not a KGV proposal, but a competing design to that that ultimately became KGV. Saying the two are interchangeable is like saying lemons and lime are the same thing: They may be similar, but they aren't the same.

0 - Hi ed! Remember you from WT and WoT forums. Unless that was a different edfrancis001, in which case apologies. 1 - Let's wait and find out wether she works or not, shall we? (Also: suggesting her as a pre41 ship? Burn the heretic!) I kind of support the radar for the ship to counteract the fact that she has no seaplanes, but then again, it's a question of approach, as some use the plane to spot torps and ships behind islands (for which the radar would be a semi-replacement), while other people use it to scatter airdrops (for which the replacement would be defAA). Either way, testing is required to establish a verdict on that. Sure, radar would be nice (British ships can never be too OP or unfair, after all, the RN relied on giving the most unfair fight possible whenever possible), but we can'T just go and say X would be bad because Y, without actually trying it. 2 - Dreadnaught would be the only effective BB at that tier if she was to be T2, and even then she'd effectively be a misplaced T3, as she'd have more than twice the guns of Mikasa, which would make Mikasa completely obsolete at that tier (like she wasn't suffering enough, poor thing). Delusions of tano. Don't even bother...

Dreadnaught is defo T3 minimum. T2 is reserved for pre-dreds, such as Mikasa. Dreadnaught is, by definition, a dreadnaught battleship, and therefore completely unsuited for T2. As for Vanguard with or w/o RADAR, that, I'm afraid, is going to come down mainly to game balance rather than historicity. That said, the entire line of ships is rather lacking in aircraft (a feature that all current lines have), so to counter that they may be given their own version of RADAR (although that is going to do very little for torp spotting, which patrolling aircraft are most useful for). Let's just say, that I could live with RADAR-BB's, if they are British.

Last I checked KGV still had a pretty fair amount of armour to her, comparable to, if not better than NC. As for AA fits, there is a Trainspite lurking somewhere with a list of the ships in the class with all the AA fits, some of which are pretty savage. Howe for example: 8x 2x 5.25” DP 8x 8x 40mm Pompoms 8x 4x 40mm Pompoms 8x 4x 40mm Bofors 18x 1x 40mm Bofors 4x 2x 20mm Oerlikons KGV at T7 would be a waste of potential quite honestly... I mean, sure she'd be able to club or fit right in, depending on soft stat adjustments, but that wouldn't be nowhere near her full potential.

    Mogami?

I like the fact that they seem to abandon the "forcing" of a style onto a line. The 155 Mogami was being discouraged mainly because they wanted to encourage people with a CL preference to play VMF ships instead of the Mogami.

    British are best

I'd go with Nagato for the simple reason that Rodney was redlined multiple times during her chase to the point where she reached speeds up to 25.5kts, which is more akin to what the Nagato can do, and I'd go with Algerie because layout
