So far I have had 32 battles in USSR ships. Around 30 of them in the Budyonny. I deeply regret spending my free xp on this ship. It has got pretty good artillery and turret turn speed. But it is a very frustrating ship to play. Its just one big floating citadel. I have heard people complain that BBs easily get citadelshots on it from ANY angle. That is my experience aswell. I have been one shot 3-4 times already. But nevemind the BBs for a moment. Even CAs get citadelshots on a regular. That keeps the ship in the very outer range of its firing range, in the hail mary hopes that nobody notices it. Because believe me, if even a mutsuki sees it, its gonna go for that easy kill. The Budyonny is a 1,MAX 2 doubletap kill. (of course not by a mutsuki)
Up to the first 50% of my battles in it my opinion was that it was close to unplayable, at least with the least bit of enjoyment. Im not gonna be as bold as that now. But having to stay at max range and still dodging like a DD at 2,5 clicks, while waiting for that damn spotting plane to reload so you can get even further away, is not what I call fun. The ship just simply has no chance what so ever in a 1 v 1 with any CA or BB from 1-2 tiers below and up. Im ALL for learning to play the way a ship was intended to be used, but jeeeesus!
Ive got enough free xp to dish out the Moskva. But noooo way im spending any more free xp on russion ships until I know that its worth spending it on, which isnt looking good atm. And thats kind of crap too, because I really dont want to grind the Budyonny at this point.I can only hope the sigh of relief will be longer with the upgrade to the Shchors then it was from the Kirov. Because that was more of an involuntary cough
Edit: I DO like that angle of which you can fire the torps with the Budyonny. I will say that!! However, with 4 kms range you are not going to be firing much torpedoes unless you mistook your Budyonny for a close quarters DD. And looooong before you ever fire those torpedos you will be having an early seafood salad with captain nemo.
