    Asymmetric Battles

The meta is skewed towards BBs due to the ridiculous targeting algorithm which makes BB really easy in this mode so people use to farm BB XP. Instead of balancing the gameplay to encourage players to use a mix of classes they've just taken the bat to XP to try and stop people farming it. They're kneecapping their new baby instead of trying to teach it to grow. Very much in the style of wargaming.

Hm, I'd argue its not necessarily realistic as human players wouldnt necessarily do that. I think a human would be too focused on their current target to realise a lower HP ship has appeared further away. Plus a human would more likely prioritise their own wellbeing first and target the most dangerous threat to themselves rather than what is easiest to kill. What the bot is doing is using the most EFFICIENT way of defeating the enemy team (focus firing targets that will die quicker), at the cost to itself in some cases. It is also much more aware of its surroundings than an average human may be, as it is able to assess multiple data points and variables at once that a human may find very difficult ( for example, I can't really look at my minimap while i'm desperately trying to shoot at someone very close to me as I'm too focused on the target). To me, this makes it efficient but doesn't necessarily make it realistic or human like. So much so that I think its affecting the balance of teams making players prefer BBs over other classes. I still play it in non-BB classes (because I don't find BBs fun to play) but it makes it very challenging to the point of it not being enjoyable.

I think you're missing my point, i'm not saying bots shouldn't focus fire, but they should be more realistically targeting a greater threat. As I said before it seems that they just purely target the ship with the lowest HP which makes for an imbalanced and unenjoyable battle for any one except a BB, which is why there are so many BB players and very few CA/CL/DD players. They will actively retarget a ship they were shooting at originally to one further away from them, who is not damaging them for no real reason except perhaps that they have lower HP. perhaps if they had a more nuanced targeting algorithm combining a mix of who is doing damage to them, distance, and health rather than focusing on one metric. That would make it more "human" and the games more fun for a greater audience.

I was firing at them to deliberately be spotted to prove a point, but it still highlights their bizarre targeting algorithm. instead of shooting at the imminent threat they're shooting at a DD. To be the most realistic the Skane should be targeting me and the nagato should be targeting that Izumo. Perhaps you prefer to stealth torp when playing DD but I prefer gunboat DDs, but eventually you will be spotted and you will be focused to death! I agree cruisers get it bad too, if not worse due to their larger detection area and lack of vision control in most cruisers. CL's are my preferred ship and they get really stomped in this mode!

case in point: the Izumo is right next to that Nagato and Skane, they switched over to me the second I left my smoke cloud

    Asymmetric Battles

The Bot aiming algorithm in this mode is frustrating for anyone not in a BB and the cause of why everyone plays BB in this mode. I think they must target the player with the lowest HP because when playing a CA, CL or DD i constantly get targeted by bots even though there is more than one BB on my team closer to the bot and is actively shooting at the bot yet I'm still targeted even though i'm more than 10km further away. Even if I break contact with smoke, the SECOND I get detected again everyone targets me. This applies when I play CA/CL or DD every time. This makes this mode much more difficult if you're not in BB because 1) you're focus fired A LOT, 2) a tier 10 CA/CL/DD cannot take hits from multiple tier 8/7 BBs like a tier 9/10 BB can, 3) everyone plays as BB in this mode because of 1 & 2 so there are A LOT of BB Bots. CA/CL/DD players dont score as much damage, get killed far more easily and hence do poorly in this mode hence why people tend to play BB. Sort out the Bot's targeting algorithm and maybe it will even things up a little also the bots seem to be able to dodge torps like they constantly have hydro on and they all seem to have RPF as they seem to be able to keep guns pointed right at me even though I'm not detected and moving.

Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance

The MM in Brawl seems particularly unbalanced. I've never really played brawl before but having played maybe 10 games almost half of the games have the DDs all on one team (not just 1 DD in the whole game but loads. in the most extreme case my team had 4 DDs and they had none. in another we had none and they had 3). This meant the team with the DDs had total control on vision in the game and nuked the opposing team. I've never really seen it in randoms before so why is the MM in brawl so unbalanced?

    Black Friday 2021: Highlights

I remember when their black friday sales used to be good, none of this Black fleet nonsense. Picked up Atlanta and OG Belfast years ago at a plain old 50% off the cash price in the premium shop.

    Armada: Belfast 1943

Yeah there were a whole bunch, Russian censorship at its best!
  10. Whistler1984

    Premium Shop: Belfast '43

My comparison to the tier 7 Belfast aside, this tier 8 version is still weak especially when uptiered against T9 and T10. If you just increase the ROF a bit to about 8.5-9 secs and give it a rear exhaust generator like the Italian ships that would give it a better edge and make it play a bit differently to the rest of the RN CL line.

    Premium Shop: Belfast '43

So the original Belfast is tier 7 and based on a post-war refit, but the 1943 version is tier 8.... that doesn't make a lot of sense, a more modern ship should on paper be superior. Game wise a mediocre 3 torp broadside isn't enough to push it up a tier, never mind the massively nerfed rate of fire and (IMO) crappier smoke generator. It also only has 250hp more than the tier 7 Belfast. In a 1-on-1 OG Belfast will crap all over this. Thank god I got the original on a black friday sale years ago.
  12. in 2017 I was lucky enough to visit St Petersburg on a work trip and spent a fantastic weekend there visiting the Central Naval Museum and the Museum of Artillery. At least someone on the forums asked me to post photos and sharing my experiences but I totally forgot until going through my profile and seeing the topic! 3 years late but here are some photos: the vast Artillery, Engineering and Signal Corps museum, the front courtyard has a static display of all manner of enormous Russian artillery, self propelled guns, multiple rocket launchers and AA systems from Napoleonic era up until the 1980s (I dont recall seeing anything more modern than that) The Aurora armoured cruiser moored on the banks of the Neva as a museum ship the Central Naval Museum where WoWs often films their 1:42 video series using the many amazingly detail massive models of Russian ships. There were quite a few Russian Naval cadets or recruits touring the museum. a 1:42 model of a Kirov class light cruiser (I think - all the labels where in Russian and unfortunately I can't read them). Incredibly detailed all metal models. Gangut class battleship, this was before the release of the Russian BB line and I recall thinking that would be a cool ship to try out in WoWs. Another excellent model this time of a more modern Kiev class helicopter cruiser (not something I would like to see in WoWs!). There were a variety of naval vessels from the age of sail right up to Typhoon class nuclear submarines and everything in between. In general St Petersburg was an awesome place to visit and whilst I couldn't really speak to many locals (not knowing any Russian) the ones I met in bars and restaurants were universally friendly and happy to engage anyone in a good drinking session! I thoroughly recommend a visit! NB I was apocalyptically hungover when I went to the Naval museum so I didn't take as many photos I would've liked!
  13. Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew the museum they film in for their 1:42 videos? is it the Russian Naval Museum in St. Petersburg? I ask because I'll be visiting St. Petersburg soon and would like to marvel at all those scale models. If anyone knows of any naval or military related museums in St Petersburg i'd be grateful for some recommendations too! thanks

What is the museum they film in for the 1:42 videos?

3 years late (sorry!) but I've posted some photos here:

Dear WG - Please show PvE some love.

I agree with Otowi, we understand that PvP is the bread and butter of WoWs and will take most of the development time but surely there are some quick and easy wins to at least throw a bone to those who play PvE even a few times. Bringing back old operations being the easiest quick win. Currently available ops like Narai and Raptor rescue have broken CV bots and they still play fine, so CV bots is not an excuse to keep Cherry Blossom, Ultimate Frontier, Hermes etc off line (which was the main reason they were removed in the first place I recall). Surely just a little bit of dev time to bring them back will go a long way with the PvE player base and wouldn't take much effort on WG's part.

Dear WG - Please show PvE some love.

I wholeheartedly agree. Randoms lost their luster for me a few years ago and I only really pop in occasionally to play an op. If they could revive the old ops they abandoned that would massively increase my play time. As someone else mentioned ops did drive purchases, all my ship purchases (bar Tirpitz) were for ops. Since they've been neglected I haven't spent a penny in WoWs. A combination of bringing back ops or creating new ones and then creating ships at those tiers would surely bump up their revenues. If they really want to show PvE some love then they should also do ops for the lower tiers (3-5), these would be easier to balance with updates since they have fewer advanced game mechanics anyway. I'd love to wheel out Dreadnought or the hilarious torp spamming Derzki against bots.

Why Remove the choice of Asymmetric Battles?

I agree, Asymmetric battles is the only new battle mode that I really enjoyed. Playing both low and high tier teams were a challenge but in slightly different ways. Playing a team with bots against a full human team was often an easy way to lose but occasionally you pull out a win against the odds and get a real buzz! I really hope they bring it back as a permanent game mode

Research Bureau: Rewards for Leveling Up

So once I hit T10 in a bunch of ship lines and get bored, WG think that regrinding the entire lines several times over to get some more T10 ships is the way to keep player interest? Truly madness they should instead put their efforts in creating more interesting game modes (Asymmetric Battles was really fun) or bringing back some of the operations they inexplicably removed (Cherry Blossom, Ultimate Frontier, Hermes etc) to give players something to play at lower and higher tiers instead of endless random battles which are mind numbingly dull
  19. I really enjoyed it and hope they make it a permanent game mode. Sure the MM needs work as a team with mostly bots is not fun, but I played a few games where we pulled a hard won victory with a half bot low tier team against a fully human high tier team. That was really satisfying! Also for some reason I don't find losing in this game mode nearly as frustrating as losing in random battles. I think players tend to be more focused and play more like a team.

0.9.2 - Changes to the Inertia Fuse for HE Shells Skill

Bug for DM Donskoi, its base HE pen is 30mm, with IFHE it only increases to 33mm which is only a 10% increase. Should it not be 37mm?

    can't assign captains

I have a related problem in that if a ship has no commander I can only recruit a new commander, I can't assign one from reserve or an existing ship of the same nationality like I used to be able to do. Instead I now i have to go to a ship with a commander, click "see Personnel file" which opens up the list of captains in reserve, go to a commander I want to assign to the ship and click Assign>ship class>ship name. Which is of course ridiculously contrived.

Research Bureau: New Rewards for Leveling Up

I couldn't even be bothered to do this in the public test where it takes 2k and 4k xp to go up a tier, nevermind on the live server. If you want players to play the lower tiered ships, create fun operations for them. I love using my leander and atlanta for ops. History is filled with many naval battles to base ops on for all tiers so this is surely a no brainer. It'll even drive sales of premium ships at those levels too.
  23. Belfast or Atlanta for the premiums Leander otherwise, I just like my CLs!
  24. Just to clarify, if I sell and unresearch the entire line of CVs I'll get back all the XP spent in that line (500K+ I have in each of the IJN and USN CV lines) as FXP? I basically dislike the whole CV rework and will treat it as persona non-grata so I want to take all the XP I built up in my CV lines and invest it in an FXP ship like Alaska or use it to advance my BB and CA lines to T10. This is possible right? I dont want all my CV XP locked in a new T4 hosho or Langley or T1 Erie or Hashidate.
