North Carolina - Easy To Learn, Hard To Master [225k damage]
MeTaLMooSe replied to Pupu_prpr's topic in Battleships
Do you guys find captaining a NC can skew your game to a fixed style? You bow in as per prescribed, If you go centre you may expose either flank. So you maybe try going from a corner to an end cap to mitigate exposure. Once you are hopefully tanking the action and causing damage do you always have an exit strategy? I'm new to my NC an also have a Dunkeque to practise this technique but don't find it very flexible. Ultimately I have found if I don't have any backup I burn trying to extricate myself. I've made some bad decisions regarding when and how to back out or push but ultimately I do find myself funnelled into the 'bow on' approach. It's quite good for strategic thinking and I guess the pay off for those beautiful guns versus a vulnerable broadside.- 14 replies

Is this game really that BB unbalanced?
MeTaLMooSe replied to MeTaLMooSe's topic in General Discussion
In some of the t8 games where I've been sucked up into the vortex of the lofty, I have noted the abundance of DD's and the fact I could jump from one side of the map to the other without getting my feet wet by simply stepping on the shoals of metal fish........... The DD's seem to cancel each other out thankfully but I'm not very patient for that sort of malarkey. Much to learn have I ! -
TBH I don't mind the updater. Nothing worse than the situation of, your wife/gf is going out, the kids are in bed. You're ready for a massive sesh of the re-enactment of Jutland. Beer on, vape on.......... Oh f%*k there's a mahoooosive patch to download. There goes your well earned gaming window of opportunity.

How Is This Run Of Losses Possible How Does MM Work
MeTaLMooSe replied to RetroRayner's topic in General Discussion
There was a guy playing WoT that ran checks on different accounts over thousands of games. He was convinced mm was intelligent and rigged to boost you up then knock you down. Similar to the reasons of gambling. When you're on a winning streak you keep pushing your luck. When you loose you want to make up for those losses. (This leads to frustration, frustration leads to anger, anger leads to the dark side!!!!) He had correspondence with wg that hinted mm was indeed rigged. How does that help you? Personally I'm not too fussed about loosing although I admitt it gets frustrating, especially if you play well. I try to at least end on a win or fair loss. After I check my recent stats. If my damage and xp have been consistent or improved I'm happy. If my performance has dropped then I'll admit some of the losses could have been mitigated by better play. If you get a really bad spell (illness, stress, tired, unmotivated etc) then take a break or play coop. Ultimately unless you are a gifted play maker you should not worry too much about win rate but more about your other stats to indicate your averages and reflect on your individual ability. P.s Not saying I agree with a rigged mm but accept anything could be happening in this age of online gaming and gambling where software has been made cunning to loosen your wallet of a few ££££'s. -
The trouble with msconfig is that the updater will re-establish after an update. When you receive a patch or update you should have the option tick box to enable or not. Also on your toolbar there should be a box of running programs. You can right click it and exit out. Although the minute you start wows it starts again. I think you can disable it in settings on the initial wows box before you hit play. On my mobile so can't check now.

Hi chaps, I've been using the static crosshair lately where each reticule arcsecond equates to 20knts. Hence a US BB at 10Km is usually 10 reticule arcseconds for 20ish knots (US BB's always seem to be spanking the stokers!) A KM BB traveling at flank speed would be 15 arcseconds @ 30knts/10Km Cruisers between 15 and 20 arcseconds and DD's I doubled plus a bit for RU dd's. The hard bit was guessing the speed but the reticule works at max zoom. So I've just tried the dynamic crosshair and watched notser's instruction video:- It seems this reticule uses 30knt arcseconds on the reticule hence a ship travelling at 30knts at a distance of 10Km would be 10 arcseconds on the reticule. Can anyone confirm if this is correct? My shells have been landing way in advance using this technique and I resorted to intuition and now back to the static crosshair. Had some terrible games last night, co-op and random trying to get a feel for this dynamic crosshair.

OP you need a goal in mind as your endgame. I would suggest downloading the latest test server and giving it ago. Try all classes to give you a perspective of how to defeat or evade in your encounters. As a recent convert from WoT I'd say there are less turds in the lines and plenty of keepers. Also the premiums are excellent compared to WoT. From my point of view of satisfaction:- (In no order) USN BB's. Up to t6 lots of guns and good fun. T7 big guns but slow leading to the glorious T8 which is where I've stopped. Cruisers. Meh but I should revisit the T4. KM BB'south. All good fun but underwhelming guns. T9 and 10 were great on the PT. Cruisers. A bit meh but nice guns. IJN BB's I liked tiers 6 and now 7. Endgame Yamato! Cruisers? I'm not very good with these. Rustic Cruisers. My favourite CA's. DD's Loving the Russian gunboats. USN Clemson is awesome. Not that good at IJN stealth play. I don't consider myself skillful enough yet for British Cruisers. So enjoy the journey. With all the flags and cammo available grinding can be very quick to start with. Hope you enjoy this game as much as I do.

Just been testing the Dynamic in co-op and getting some pretty decent results now. It is definitely 30knts but because of the larger dynamic scale I was over leading. A case of recalibrating and using the force. Just need to get the speed differences mentally mapped into my brain now. (getting older see so everything takes longer..... ) I would have thought WG's gunnery tutorial illustrated the facts we've been discussing. It doesn't....... Now, I'm off to drip feed my KM guncrews vodka. Seems to work for the Roosians!

By 20knts per arc second I take it as:- 1km = 1 reticule marker (arcsecond) 10km = 10 reticule marker So as long as the ship is doing 20knts and you are at max zoom and apply the shell time to the calculation the scale works But obviously the real skill is judging the ships actual speed and course and predicting where he will go. I find it easier on the static scale but really bad on the dynamic. I guess I use more intuition after a basic calculation and as the scale is always the same I can mentally make a judgement. My BB average is 28%. I don't know if that's normal?

I just couldn't get on with it which is a shame, I'm a bit fed up of the clutter involved with the static crosshair. I may practise with it in co-op but as I found out, the static is 2nd nature to me now.

Your first statement is why we will not get great game modes for co-op. If there are not enough players for random why will WG make co-op more appealing?

Please remove detonation from the game once and for all
MeTaLMooSe replied to T3ddyBear's topic in General Discussion
Clearly some folk have never played WoT and been ammo racked in their tier 10 behemoth.(Instant deletion after 'brewing up') I guess after that, the chance of detonation is entirely acceptable. -

Is it poor form to ask the forum to look at my stats and offer advice ? If not.....
MeTaLMooSe replied to Red5kunk's topic in Newcomers' Section
Funnily enough he did a recent re-visit with the Chappy and Udaloi. One involved 'making the play' at a critical point in the match to turn the tide for the team and the other involved smoking up your BB's and trying to harass a crumbling flank whilst his team got their asses into gear. I don't tend to watch his streams. Maybe they are different? His commentaries are quite educational though and display the strategic thinking needed rather than tunnel vision. I found myself chasing a lone Colarado off the map tonight, then it kicked In I needed to get my NC's guns back into the fight. I did and we won. Maybe it's just personalities? I find some American commentators slightly saccharine. I'm grateful to them though for their teachings and I guess their gratitude is to see new players learning and playing well. -
For looks I like the Tirpitz and Sharnhorst class with North Carolina a close runner up. Favourite to sail? Not sure. The broadside weight of a Fuso and secondaries of a Bismarck would be nice. So having downloaded the latest test server I am grinding away for Yamato and Grosser Kurfurst. Everything I thought the tier 10's would be. I have rebought Kaiser though. That and Konig Albert are beautiful looking Great war ships and very enjoyable to sail.

Are we watching the same guy? Selfish? Is causing huge amounts of damage and playing for the win selfish? I've been watching Flamu for the last few weeks and certainly improved my game. How do you play an online game with complete strangers and do your best without being 'selfish'? Maybe I have more of an anger issue (although compared to WoT I'm as calm as a sleeping baby nowadays) but I find his commentary amusing and educational. (although maybe his videos should have an adult rating due to the cussing, which I also enjoy being an adult myself). I take my hat off to all the contributors, I find watching a selection of them brings different points from different perspectives of style. I understand if you publish videos to the public you are open to criticism, but I wouldn't slate them until I gave up my own time to do so and could beat them at the game. Heck even Jingles has some valid points you can take, but he's just good entertainment. -
WG why we dont get same offer in premium shop like RU have ?
MeTaLMooSe replied to Fizzy_Odin's topic in General Discussion
It's business, nothing personal. The average Russian/Eastern European income is far lower than the Western Europe. That's all. Be glad you're not on the NA server. They have far fewer premiums on offer and they seem to be sold periodically. -
PT 0.5.15 starts tomorrow 17.11 at 17:30 CET and lasts until 28.11
MeTaLMooSe replied to daki's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I was just griping. Took only a short while to gain a mighty Yamato and GK. Concurr regarding campaigns. really just a fancy screen for missions. I'd like something like a planning room charting your progress on a map etc and the ability to earn your own your own flag and add battle honours to it. WG are missing a trick on the port and personal side of this game . Having invested significantly over the years I have nothing to show for it any different than anyone else except my profile . Personal flags, honours , moving from a midshipman berth to admirals quarters would really add a touch to this game . -
Campaigns looks interesting. WG are really into rewarding the players these days. I like it. Time to checkout the tier 10's for that grinding inspiration.

A stingy amount of free xp given which means if you want to try out tier 10 you need to grind out 4k on a tier 8 and 9 beforehand. Modules are only 1 xp point each. Tedious WG. -

How much xp and moolah do we get? I want to try out the tier 10's but remember on WoT I sometimes ran out of exp from memory. Also are the captains unskilled? Campaigns looks interesting. -
Whoops please delete mods. Just saw there is already a topic for this. Sorry.

Some players obsession with stats. What's up with that?
MeTaLMooSe replied to Runner357's topic in General Discussion
Stats can be useful if used correctly. I'm pretty new to WoW's so I use stats to monitor my learning and improvement. The overall numbers are pretty meaningless as I have <1k battles. However I look at the graphs for average dmg, exp and personal rating. For me all are climbing with exception of WR of which I don't care about at present. That's good for me as it means I'm putting into practise what I learn from guys here. It's a case though of not playing for stats but enjoyment. I had a couple of really bad nights and my recent numbers crumbled from pretty good to crap. I was annoyed but that's what this game does. RNG will give a kick now and again and you will experience loosing streaks that can have an effect on your frustration levels. As long as you don't let stats ruin your experience then play how you want to. I think they are a good tool and I like that aspect of the game. I'd play a generic shooter if stats weren't a part of WoW's or WoT. -
Some excellent points. I'm encouraged now to continue and improve with Ru gunboats.
