    Portuguese Fleet In the WWII

Before WWII there was even a project for a 5110 tons seaplane carrier (named Sacadura Cabral) which was to be ordered from Italy, but the order was soon cancelled. Deamon93, on 22 November 2013 - 03:41 PM, said: Portugal had nice ships, not so many though(they were a "minor" nation). I'm sure they could be implemented in the EU tech tree(when it will be implemented) Still I think they'll have a hard time finding enough high tier BBs and especially CVs, including paper ships; I already have a hard time thinking about German or Italian tier X CVs...

She's still commissioned, last month she entered Taranto Naval Arsenal for maintenance works, so currently she's not operative. It's almost certain that she'll serve as helicopter carrier after the Yanks will finally fix that expensive piece of crap the F-35B.

I've always been fascinated by the fact that our carriers' development had a lot of parallels with the USSR, this ship resembles the Kiev class in several ways, they're both hybrid cruiser/carrier designs equipped with several missile launchers, including antiship supersonic cruise missiles, with a focus on ASW and air interception.

They were not replaced, they bored and relined the original guns. The BL 15 inch Mk I remained competitive during both World Wars so there was no real need to upgrade it.

I don't know the Japanese destroyers but i think there could be parallel branches even for just a tier(as they did in WoWP for example). I'm not sure of course. I'm not familiar with WoWp, do you mean something like parallel branches which converge at some tier? I don't really like similar solutions, there's little incentive in trying both branches.

    Leone-class destroyers

Deamon93, on 18 November 2013 - 10:21 AM, said: About the second part in italian we define the destroyers as "cacciatorperdinieri" which is the italian translation of contre-torpilleur. They were designed to face torpedo boats and other smaller destroyers although they were technically able to face larger ships thanks to the torpedoes. We prefered the MAS in that specific role(similar to the PT boats) or our frogmen I know (I'm Italian too and I speak some French), but the term contre-torpilleur was restricted to 2000+ tons ships dedicated to anti-destroyer role during the 20s/30s (French never decided how to name destroyers, changing and/or resurrecting classifications every 2 or 3 decades). Smaller ships, like Adroit class, were called "torpilleur" despite being significantly larger than original torpedo boats.

Achyluss, on 10 November 2013 - 11:46 AM, said: nice video , ship looks really cool , but the computer system they got looked like an old commodore 64 :teethhappy: And I'm sure it's several times more trustworthy than Windows 2000 (courtesy of the silly Brits) which comes with PAAMS. Anyway, it's common for ships to keep outdated hardware and software if they never received major overhauls of their electronic suits.

    Leone-class destroyers

Maybe you should have mentioned earlier in the post which nation built this class of destroyers, for people unfamiliar with Italian "Leone" doesn't necessarily mean anything and you mentioned her (crew) nationality only in the last part. Except for this little detail it was a nice and informative article, thanks. Deamon93, on 17 November 2013 - 02:49 PM, said: Technically was designed as a scout cruiser and this class was designed to own other destroyers with a firepower beaten only by the Porter class almost 12 years later. If you chase a Leone-class with a destroyer you risk to die fairly quickly ;) And that's where the "contre-torpilleur" appears.

    Algerian ;Warship on Bosphorus

Thanks for sharing these pics, I have to say that this is a funny ship from a certain point of view: she's a training vessel but she's also the largest (5500 tons) ship of the Algerian navy right now. Soummam was built in China in 2006 and she's the single unit of her class (she's similar to the PLAN training ship Zhenghe but 20m longer). She's equipped with Type 360 and Type 363 2D air/surface radars, Type 347G and and Type 344 fire control radars, 1 x AK-176 76mm gun, 2x Type-76A twin 37mm gun and 2 x AK-630 six-barreled 30 mm rotary cannon, her maximum speed is 22 knots . As you can see from the platform in the pictures she can carry one helicopter. I think this ship is part of a larger naval expansion that Algeria started in late 2000s which includes the acquisition of MEKO frigates, Tigr corvettes and newly built Kilo subs. There are a lot of rumours about other possible acquisitions including FREMM frigates.
