I don't know if we can say that it was the best one, it didn't prevent the sinking of Conte di Cavour from a single torpedo hit at Taranto and there are conflicting opinions about is efficacy between historians. In the best case it was comparable to contemporary protection systems, but certainly it wasn't perfect. This class was innovative in many regards, like the stabilised mounts for the 90mm guns, but innovation comes at a price.

Does this program keep in account the "Pugliese" underwater protection system? Vittorio Veneto and Littorio were effectively very wet during trials in 1939, the design of the bulbous bow was considered the culprit and both ships were retrofitted with a new structure to the bow and other modifications to the overall silhouette in order to fix this issue (Impero directly incorporated these modifications during construction). The heavy secondary armament was chosen because the most likely enemy for the Regia Marina was the French Marine Nationale, which was equipped with several high speed large destroyers; probably the high mounted 381mm turrets gave more stability issues than what you can gain from removing a pair of 152mm mounts.

What we know about Ships: Updated 05/04/2017

Thanks, it makes sense that I missed it, I only occasionally read the QA on the American forum, I should do it more often actually. -

It looks like I was missing some piece of info, did they say it recently or was it time ago? Indeed it could work, it would be a little fictional but I guess it's fine. -

Uh? What do you mean with "both"? Heavy and light cruiser version? Only after conversion to heavy cruiser (and catastrophic damage at Midway) Mogami was converted to aviation cruiser. Or am I misunderstanding something? -
Yes, that's correct. I suppose that the ambitious author either (optimistically) planned to have someone develop the new gun or he was hoping for import/license-building of the British BL 18 inch Mk I. There's good reason to be one, planes and submarines won WWII.
-
Indeed, even the length-to-beam ratio and displacement (if that's standard displacement) are similar.
-
It reminds me a little of HMS Incomparable, but that speed is probably just an exaggeration, or maybe Mr. Cassone just drunk one glass more than usual when he drew this.
-
Most likely. Now, what do you think about this? Even a fantasy ship drawn by WG could be more realistic! I found it on warship project while lurking around, it's a 1921 "project". No country built any battleship after WWII, isn't this enough of a proof? Even the largest battleships, built without any regard for treaty limitations, were sunk by planes. Also, the Vittorio Veneto class were only nominally treaty battleships, standard displacement was 40000 tons. Maybe during WWII against subsonic planes, but the huge blast of those large guns doesn't suit well with delicate electronics required for modern AA suites, this was one of the reasons the re-activated Iowa didn't receive any AA missiles except for some (slightly ridiculous) shoulder-mounted Stingers placed around the ships. Perhaps in a war against aliens, isn't it? Did you become a battleship maniac after watching that film?

This Topaze? Nice target for Tenryu, I'm more and more convinced that they'll have to move her to tier 3+... -
We need something around the 60000 tons but likewise I'm not aware of any similar design, there were some differences between the plan sold to the USSR and the ship pursued for the Italian navy but they're so small (the one for the USSR has 180mm secondary and 100mm tertiary armament) that probably WG could just implement them as a different preset.

There's a number of aircrafts on the wiki, but I think that the list is outdated. -
It's also said that there were issues with quality controls, some lots gave more consistent patterns than others. At least I read so here. Bismarck Class are good for Tallboy target practice Useless "Fleet" (it was more like a combination of U-boot flotilla than a real fleet) Useless Ships (indeed they were badly designed, as Bismarck's sinking showed, and as all battleships they were an inefficient usage of resources and manpower, even more so for a small navy like the German one) Do you see what I did there? Battleships as a concept were outdated, they were obviously doomed to sink under plane attacks without adequate air cover (add also Prince of Wales and Yamato to the list), it doesn't say anything about these ships and the Regia Marina as a whole.

Any Anime lovers? I'd reccomend Arpeggio of Blue Steel
RedBear87 replied to Helliio's topic in Other
Don't worry about, I heard something of that series but I've not watched/read it yet, guns aren't exactly my fetish, weirdly enough I find them scaring and not really interesting as mechanical objects. Upotte sounds more like Kancolle, moe-antropomorphisations without any actual explanation (please correct me if I'm wrong), Aoki Hagane instead is more SF-like, those warships are manmade weapons that at a certain point made a physical avatar called "mental model", starting from there they acquire time perception and self-awareness. -

They're supposed to be graviton engines or something. But now that I look at that picture again, the funny thing is that they mention her "OTOME" (girl) plugin... -

RedBear87 replied to Helliio's topic in Other
Because Fog heavy cruisers and above can submerge (light cruisers like Nagara can't). I highly recommend everyone to read the manga too, the anime is an "early" (that's what I heard) adoption which doesn't follow the same plot (the manga hasn't been finished yet after all). BTW, there's already another topic about Blue Steel, maybe the mods could merge them later? -
It is already slatted to be in-game, tier VI according to mr3awsome's thread. Learning from one's own mistakes and being forcefully imposed policy from an external power as a semi-protectorate are hardly the same thing...

Actually I kinda had the same issues, why did they set the rendering by default on infinite? @Orlunu: That's the option Daimon_Frey_89 is mentioning. -

That was just a single hangar partitioned by a bulkhead. -

That could be already the case, it's possible (no official confirmation so far, afaik) that CV N°111 is a "what-if" conversion based on Shinano's sister hull 111 following the full fleet carrier conversion plan. However even a similar conversion would have been limited to around 70 planes. That was scrapped because of tactical considerations, Shinano was supposed to operate nearer to the enemy carriers, refueling and rearming planes launched by other less protected (Unryu class and light/escort carrier conversions), because her armoured deck and underwater protection made her less vulnerable. Converting her into a pure fleet carrier would have been fairly trivial, it just meant using the whole single hangar for her airwing. -
That's the point of this thread actually, WG planned/promised regional trees for those countries that can't have their own national tree.

HMS Queen Elizabeth - British Aircraft Carrier class 2014
RedBear87 replied to Raider_'s topic in Modern Warships
The only ones who aren't against the F-35 are Lockheed Martin, some politicians in various countries (and given the past relations between Lockheed and politicians I'm really not surprised by this marriage, does anyone remember the F-104 affair in Italy, Germany and Japan?) and the US Marine Corps. :D- 63 replies

I don't know about Roma honestly, but Bismarck and to some extend Hood do fall under this category. Bismarck in particular is very popular, even outside Germany, and she's certainly perceived as a "legendary" warship by many. Don't worry about it too much, my mice are all expendable, I'm against spending more than 20€ for something that I will probably kill in 3 months anyway.

Actually I was getting the impression you were trying to sustain the opposite position, that "legend" can't be definite objectively, I could have gotten the wrong impression then. Don't you consider any ship as "legendary"? The problem was that an organ of the previous mouse kind of died on me (the scroll wheel) and this was causing me a lot of WoT frustration because of the zoom function.

Well, we could say that it's because of the lasting impression she made on people, our own Roma, the French Richelieu, or even the American Iowa don't have the same kind of worldwide fame enjoyed by Yamato and they didn't inspire the same amount of fictional works (well, Disney wanted to make a "Space Battleship Arizona", but it remains a project, luckily). Obviously I think that it remains a subjective matter, some people just don't care about something in the first place and you can't force your opinion on them, but Yamato holds this status for a lot of people around the world, for different (usually a combination of) reasons. And thanks for understanding, I don't like my new mouse, I clicked "report" on my own post minutes ago...
