Expert Guide to HIJMS Mogami (5.0.3) - "Lady of Glass, Heart of Fire"
mtm78 replied to WhiskeyWolf's topic in Cruisers
I'm really biased, I play Mogami at max range pretty often and I <3 the 18km range on the 155's even with the shell travel time because I mainly shoot at BB's at that distance anyway. Having to use the 203's on her, changes her role completely. I didn't like Myoko nearly as much as Mogami, I like being the CA which is made to burn the BB's and just annoy the heck out of them edit: 16km range on the 155's would still be good enough I guess, but my survival rate will go down for sure since there will be more accurate return fire. -
Things that are not right with this game... and should be

WOWS not running smooth on new gaming laptop
mtm78 replied to FrodoSwaggings's topic in General Discussion
Advising laptop users to mess with the automatic throttling without giving any upfront warning about the possible consequences is bad etiquette, there is a very good reason a lot of laptops have to resort to throttling to reduce heat and even after someone posting a picture of his laptop already on a cooling pad you should point out that it can cause permanent damage to your hardware. -
Expert Guide to HIJMS Mogami (5.0.3) - "Lady of Glass, Heart of Fire"

I <3 Mogami, she is a beauty and a beast. Removing AFT from 155's will break balance ( or at least make Mogami quite weak as the citadel don't allow brawling and the 203's range is bad. It's not a change I'm looking forward to, nor one which I think is needed. I will admit up front I'm without a doubt biased towards CA's, so I understand my soul opinion isn't worth much. Hence I hope that enough people play on PT to give the developers a large enough dataset to check if such a change would give them the effect their looking for ( and I pray it doesn't ). -
And that
-
Yes, ST can test for bugs and obvious imbalances, but due to limited sample size we can not generate enough data to base balance changes on. PT is essential to give the developers access to a large enough dataset. It also enables you to test if a new build is bugged on your system before it goes to live, again ST and developers naturally don't have all available hw combinations possible due to limited numbers, giving everyone the opportunity to test the new changes/additions works both ways, and both benefit from it.

True, but if you had lost your steering gear anywhere else for 2 minutes the chances of being dead afterwards aren't that minute either. Don't think it's a reason to change the mechanics 'again'. Maybe Leluk posts is clearer than mine, he would have been able to clear the border if he paid sufficient attention to it, and prioritized the border over shooting that HE salvo at the BB ( by own admittance ). Talking about other maps and spawns, and what you want for border sliders, is nice and all, but not really my cup of tea atm. Blame my still concussed brain cells, I can't see the gain there. You don't want 'punishment' but you want people to stay off the border, you can't have it both ways. If you facilitate getting of the wall just as easy as people seem to run into it, people would still fight along the map borders. All this 'sticking is bad' stuff is completely missing the point, everyone who posted here has said that he should be able to get of the border. And he can, he could have, just not as fast as he would like ( punishment ) because of a> underpowered ship b> impact angle c> low initial speed d> cutting speed. If he had pushed to full speed alone, that would have probably gave him enough momentum to make the turn a lot quicker. These things might need some tuning, but not in the degree you're calling for.

That's not a bad a good suggestion, but tbh in WoT we also had similar contests and there never been such an uproar about it ( hunt the courier ). So while your idea would be fun, it's not fair to claim that the setup off the event is essentially broken. Could it have been implemented different, sure could, but is it different then previous comparable events, no it isn't.

Why are fighters driven by War Thunder Arcade players?
mtm78 replied to WOTomatoSauce's topic in Archive
What are your detail settings? Do you have 'animate small objects' ticked on? Depending on your settings, WoWs renders a squad of planes as a single or plane or multiple planes. There are still some buggy animations from time to time but I never see planes sitting still ( then again, I haven't touched carriers since PT 4.0 ). -
Not sure atm but I think torpedo range and concealment range.

This is the first test of skill based MM, and you're a naab

It's quite on par with the rest of his post though, al 25 of them. Guess we wouldn't really miss out if he 'makes a competitor as his phd project with his buddies which are all more talented game developers then WG'.

Make it tier IV or my Yubari will cry. No really, she will

WOWS not running smooth on new gaming laptop

Nice setup man, don't mind the haters ( though Delaci certainly is right, laptops for gaming are only viable in certain conditions as a desktop will always outperform them for the same amount of money, you seem to have such a condition with your living environment where this setup makes the most sense ). I'm actually a bit jealous, my pc is at my diner table ( enough space left to eat for me and the two kido's when their with their dad ) and I'm sitting in a not so comfy normal office chair edit: Delaci just to make sure, I don't mean you're a 'hater' ;) -
Technically no, it's a totally new mod but it effectively isn't any different.

There is one fallacy in your post, we don't want the ships to get off. I mean, that's not the primary goal, that actually is that border excursions should be discouraged by punishing them. If the punishment is too harsh/needs tweaking, that is something which what this forum and the PT server is for. And you might not have issue hitting a ship going 20kts at the border, sadly you're not exactly average then. 15 kts does already sound a lot better, remember some bb's are already terribly slow and applying a fixed penalty rating on them will make them a lot slower.
-
I don't agree, equal player in Kuma should beat equal player in Myogi since a> Kuma dps b> Kuma fire chance c> kuma top speed and turn radius allowing it to control the engagement. Ofc, a Kuma will not often only face a BB and weaving and minimizing return fire hit chances against multiple ships becomes as much luck as skill, but I'm 100% sure if you put me in a Kuma vs me in a Myogi in a training room, the Myogi will not fare well.

Those titles mean jack all, the only telling title you can see is below the name of a player on the forums

I was also confused about the missing warning about the engine cutting off, and as commented earlier in ST channel the lack of speed and directional control settings visibility in replays makes the video really hard to judge properly. I trust OP's post, but even honest people can make mistakes recollecting everything which is happening during a game. I concus this might warrant more testing ( or more/accurate feedback from OP/other players on PT server ). The point is that you should be able to leave the border at 'sufficient' speed. If you make 'sufficient' to high though, it's not a penalty at all because in general people will find it hard to lead properly a ship which is slowed down but not enough to be 'crawling'. So 'crawling' it is, and this should only happen after X amount of time ( the cutoff should be gradual ).
-
I fully endorse this for the simple fact was also have this for islands. On the other hand, missing an island on the minimap well it can happen, missing the fact that the minimap is a square and you're very near a border, that's quite hard. So just saying, I will support this warning ( I actually thought we should already have them, sorry for that ), but situational awareness is perfectly capable of avoiding the border even without it.
-
You're fully entitled to your opinion, but just know I don't in any way agree. I love burning Myogi's with Kuma, it's more OP imo then OPMaha for instance. Now I do admit that Kuma is also way more fragile, so you depend a lot on your situational awareness and you ability to weave and prioritize.

WOWS not running smooth on new gaming laptop
mtm78 replied to FrodoSwaggings's topic in General Discussion
4600 should be comparable with a gt620/630, or an 8650G from AMD. Still well below min req, so I'm surprised it runs so smoothly. -
There is, you lose 75% of engine power and you're in the slowest ( I think.. been awhile ) most sluggish BB in the line. Add to that that you hit the border at < 10 kts, and you end up with ~2kts which will look like sitting still but actually you would have made the turn without a reserve eventually ( well that's the consensus so far ). edit: I am not opposing a fixed minimum kts, I only argue that you should have been able to get of the border already.
-
Those maluses wouldn't prevent border sliding, and people would be vexed about it no matter what. Cutting the engine, making you a easy target, is imo preferable to both the old system and any suggestions made in this thread ( so far ).
-
The reason you stopped completely is because of the speed at which you hit the border ( it seems, confirmation needed, also my brain isn't firing on all cylinders today ). We are also not sure about your speed settings in the turn, though I take your word for it, we will try and recreate the situation. Imo, if it replicated, it should be changed so you can complete the turn if you really couldn't. Though I'm with Admiral_Noodle, I think you would have turned in the end but it would have taken you >30 seconds at least at that speed. On the other hand I might be t0o lenient atm, as this surely will teach you to next time use a bigger buffer between you and the border?
