But fire chance is also RNG, being more AP centric is conceptually not that bad as long as BB's don't benefit ( again ) from it so the absolute damage potential of cruisers should stay the same. But, fires do add skill floor to BB's, I think most complaints you hear are from BB(abies) which repair their first fire right away and never heard of damage management. I feel these bad BB(abies) should still receive the same damage from any skilled cruiser even if they remove / lower fire chance.

Some thought about the main complaints about gameplay.
mtm78 replied to steviln's topic in General Discussion
it's not 'sub par gameplay' it's lack off teamwork, or better even: lack of WILLINGNESS to employ teamwork. Maybe you had to be in CBT or even alpha to really understand the incredibly difference in the attitude people display in a match ( and how this resulted in actual teamwork ). And these new people never learned to play properly because economy didn't reward useful actions so there was no incentive. Hoping to change this now, I hope it won't be in vain. edit: everyone in CBT was interested in learning the game, but more and more people are coming to WoWs to play BB's while not really interested in anything else but those BB's. Or well, there are people with sub 50% win rate but who are claiming to fully understand the meta and ingame balancing, doesn't matter which class they play the most that is just not possible. -
That is because of changes since CBT which all favor BB's the most, making them increasingly a universal class which 'can do it all alone' to some degree. Some people just don't like this versatility because it totally removes the necessity of teamwork. edit: I must add IceyJones is right, this versatility is also with cruisers ability to burn BB's from max range. This is part of it as well. Cruisers should not primarily engage BB's to burn them but I find myself frequently doing it myself ( because free/easy damage ). Not that I think cruisers have a to high damage potential versus BB's, they don't BB's still beat cruisers, as they should. But giving cruisers increased survivability so they can close in a bit ( while using angling to mitigate incoming damage ) and make them more AP centric would still be closer to CBT gameplay then what we have now.

I fully agree with the last part. Which is why 'gunmarks' for specific gameplay aspects ( cap contesting/escorting/spotting/damage dealing and so on ) would be so much better. It just gives usable indications of what you can expect from someone and people can still choose how to play on their own. It would just enable more synergy between players to happen 'automatically' based on perception of how people play their ship in relation to those gameplay aspects.

It is not more effective in fact, it just gives THEM a better result while they screw their team because without BB's tanking some of the damage, all that damage is focused on the other classes. So they might end up with more kills on damaged enemies, and will end up with more damage done to enemies because they aren't skilled enough to survive while pushing and dealing damage in the mean time. But it's far from more effective since the goal of the game is to WIN, not to play selfishly to boost one's ( not or at least very much less important ) k/d ratio and/or damage. -
Lol touche, touche, the problems aren't limited to in game but happen also in real life. Still, don't think that because politics <-> population's wishes is so much out of tune, we should bring in politics to the game ( as in 'elected' 'flagships' )

Teamplay was a pinnacle compared to now, or well better said the intent to display some form of teamwork was a pinnacle compared with now. Didn't once claim people were better in CBT at it, I certainly wasn't, but everyone tried to play their role. edit: this isn't personal either, just wanted to share my personal opinion

Yup that was the first sign of impending doom... sadly it wasn't picked up or ignored, or perhaps even already anticipated. If the economy back then had taken into account 'doing the right thing' already ( that is, if WG is capable of properly translating that into a workable formula ) maybe people would have learned how to properly play from the get-go. It's now basically almost impossible to change the mentality, and frankly I fear WG isn't even going to try but will just 'go with it'.
-
But the whole idea is ludicrous, you can't expect people in random battles to follow some 'elected' player's orders. Advice, yeah please let good players give advice to bad players, they need it desperately, but imagine a baddie being 'elected' to tell a good player to do something stupid, how do you think that would work out.

This basically. CBT times if you had a New Orleans on your team, he was going to escort the BB or give AAA cover to the carrier at the start of the match to prevent an enemy snipe. If you had an Atago, he would be supporting the DD's from closer up, using excellent cammo. If you saw one of the old Mogami's with 155's, they could either be close range DD support or long range HE burning HE spammers ( which would be visible from the start of the game ). This role based play was actually much more immersive imo. Basically, everyone played 'their role' and this resulted in lots of 'spontaneous' teamwork being displayed, and I like teamwork as a crucial part of this game. And this

Skill floor for 'feeling' useful ( or 'acceptable' ) in BB's seems incredibly low. Many 4x% BB players seem to think they are playing the game well (enough) and don't want to spend any effort into learning the actual ffin game. They just enjoy sitting in BB's with other ships spotting targets for them while they snipe in the back because 'OMG TORPS + HE ARE BROKEN'. And sadly as VanHal pointed out, with the BB's being the most iconic class, this caters to a lot of people. As a large part of those people don't want this game to be any more complicated then hurp-a-derp let's sit next to island and play WoT HT on the water, the game is slowly being catered towards them. Which is sad, but inevitable it seems. I wish this game had never left CBT, or well, that the player base didn't so drastically change after changing from CBT to open beta.

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?

I think I thanked team on amazing support, I said I would go B then C and with only two DD's you would expect some of the people to actually stay behind B... but there I am spotting all kinds of stuff and everyone went their merry way to A and C right away. I felt so much <3 in the air That was the game right after, seeing the Minekaze go down the channel of idiots was not very encouraging and as predicted things didn't work out. I played crap though btw, 60k dmg but I took two citadels on the very first salvo which hit me so I had to play conservative the entire rest of the match Next post here might be from someone I had in my Hipper battle, I am sure something noteworthy happened there as well -
Sadly posting screenshots is naming and shaming...

There is a way, economy. Might sound stupid idk, but if implemented earlier it might have prevented large part of playerbase to learn 'wrong' habits.
-
And that is the biggest problem in the entire game.

With the ONE big difference, he mentioned specifically 19KM and that indicates something you don't see Flamu do, keep 19km between him and the enemy. He pushed in with the DD's, now I don't expect everyone to do this ( I would like a cruiser with me, not just DD's ) and it ofc depends on the enemy ships there but it seems it's a vastly contradictory mindset.
-
You're contradicting yourself AGAIN. THEIR is plural, indicating more than one 'HE spamming OP broken cruiser'. I btw recommend you to follow the advice from the others and go play them so we can laugh just as hard when you're coming back to complain about how hard cruisers are to play and how BB's can just delete them with a single salvo ( since that is what would have just happened ). Btw, want to know which HE spamming cruiser at tier III is actually considered quite overpowered? Due to it's 'lotsa guns' armament, and 'coal protected hidden citadel'? It's the St Louis. So how about you first go play that St Louis and show us how easy mode playing cruisers actually is, I see you already have one and it's ... ow wait... you're NOT doing that great with HE spamming cruisers?

Gearing & Fletcher getting nerfed aswell ? General balancing questions.
mtm78 replied to br1zz's topic in General Discussion
That's obviously wrong of me, thanks for the correction. Mhm I can remember looking at these stats last week or so and the recent stats also had way smaller differences. Guess some good Gearing players might have switched flavors Either way, I don't oppose the rof changes at all, the range might be a issue depending on how easy mode it will be for BB's to hit and delete Kharb's. -
There are lots of video's on that channel, some are in BB's, NONE I think include many 19km let's camp and shoot over the island moments ( though yeah, I do expect that tactic to sometimes be best, it's not nearly as 'bad' as you're claiming here ).
-
There are a few ships in Instant Structures mods but I would love to be able to walk on that Yubari for instance from OP ( and other ships represented in the game )
-
Not just in these days, this is a team game of course you should stick with your team in a BB

Nope. Got bad gateway message once, slow to load index, almost impossible to open topics.

Gearing & Fletcher getting nerfed aswell ? General balancing questions.
mtm78 replied to br1zz's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the info, appreciated! Solo all time record -> 51.72 vs 49.08 = 2.64% wr difference 2 ship -> 56.72 vs 53.89 = 2.83% wr difference 3 ship -> 64.70 vs 63.06 = 1.64% wr difference ALL PVP -> 54.09 vs 51.22 = 2.87% wr difference My numbers are different, but looking at them makes me wonder why I claimed it does better mostly in divisions, it seems pretty much hit and miss. Still, my differences are smaller than your's by quite the margin? -
