Battleship players: what is your problem? Why won't you tank?
mtm78 replied to Ferry_25's topic in Archive
Communication is very much key, most of my most enjoyable games outside of being in a division where those where all the planets were in perfect allignment and chat was actually used to communicate and plan, and where people sticked to it. Today a few examples -> team's spawn close to A + B cap with one exception -> Gneisenau near C. I propose to focus A + B since that's the best strategic option due to being able to pressure enemy team through cap points, and I get 4 or 5 "Affirmative" with only the Gneisenau asking to go C. Others respond with: "No ignore C focus other two caps, and I ping the Gneisenau and ask him to not go alone but to stick with the team. And he did, some of our team flared between C and B so to prevent the BB from getting early focused and while we obviously lost C cap ( where majority of enemy team was ) but we gained A and we fought hard over B. Enemy tried to push through C to flank the group at B but was held off efficiently by allied cruisers and battleships with the DD's controlling the actual two cap points we still possed. The enemy team didn't have a chance, they got desperate due to point deficit and overextended in an attempt to push out off B. Result -> clear victory for our team and lots of people talking in chat on how well the team played! Another game, in my Warspite in a tier VIII battle, I had a bad feeling as they had a tier VIII CV and well i was in a Warspite against tier VIII BB's ( and a Fuso ofc on enemy team ). Our left flank was not doing that well, I had to play really defensive there. A Bayern on my team also on left was tanking two Fuso's iirc, and we had two DD's on left flank as well. Lost one to enemy DD, other DD killed an enemy DD and then one of the Fuso's killed the last DD on the left flank leaving an enemy Kagero 'in the wild'. I asked our CV to start relocating to right flank as I was very scared left flank would not hold. I was moving to right as well, trying to assist the Bayern while maintaining distance with where I suspected the Kagero to be. All the while an allied pink Gneisenau was sitting still in the back of the map, I asked if it was a bot but he started moving shortly after and told he he had been disconnected. He was probably hesitant and needed to get his orientation as he moved not towards enemy but parallel to the battle at about 20km from the enemy. I asked him to come push as by this time the battle was in it's decision stages and he acknowledged and started to really push hard. Being as slow as I was and wanting to get in a crossfire from the North Carolina and some other BB I positioning myself behind with an island between me and the NCal, ambushed a Hipper scoring a triple citadel on him and doing som random damage to targets of opportunity. The Gneisenau was pushing the North Cal pretty hard but was suffering quite a lot of damage so he fell back a bit, a lot of my team was getting on pretty low health so I tell them to fall back and let me tank for a bit ( not expecting to last long against a NCal ). But he didn't aim that well and I got a very lucky frontal citadel on him, aiding my team in taking him down. All the time our CV has been murdering the enemy CV's plane, he had a single dive bomber left and decided to send him to me. As our CV had 60 plane kills I would have wanted to give him the plane kill for his clear sky but his fighters were to far away. But all this time people were actually playing as a collective, trying to help each other and the chat was really enjoyable. In a matter of fact, even the enemy CV which was last alive was friendly in all chat, with our CV taunting him a bit asking if he had more planes for his clear sky. Enemy CV was being chased by a Kiev and running away just outside my range, but because of the friendly chatter going around I decided to take a gamble and said: "Lexi plox stop running I'm soooooo slooooooowww" And guess what, he replied: "Ok I'm turning towards you" and he actually did allowing me to get a salvo off and scoring some additional damage to end that match in the top 5 of my team. My final comment in that game: Guys it's been a pleasure, not very often even the enemies are friendly in chat recently! I gave the enemy CV a compliment off course, just as my teams Gneisenau which despite loading in late and not committing to the fight until the later part of the battle, he scored top off the team. Another game, in my Gremlin, friendly Leander behind me so I tell him I will smoke when in range and then keep spotting so he could use my smoke, but there was an Indianapolis spotted close so I comment sitting in smoke wouldn't really be wise. We had a rough fight on our flank, both sides taking losses. But we did perfect focus fire ( calling F3 to kill the radar cruiser first, and then to focus on the supporting cruisers of the BB''s while I was engaging the BB's from distance trying to windle them down with fires. I see a Fuso on low hp under pretty heavy fire so I asked him to slow down and smoked him so he could both keep engaging the enemy and recover some of his hitpoints, during which time I was charging the enemy BB thinking the game was won anyway ( other flank has also won the battle and was pushing in from the sides ) so I could die without risk. Torpedo's from behind are kind of easy to avoid so I wasn't getting any major damage on him but he was pretty impressed by my bravery or something since he focused his fire just on me ( with most of my team closing in on him, and I would assume a lot easier targets then a small evading DD ).I did get some fires and I took quite heavy damage over the course of several salvo's from the enemy BB but while he was fruitlessly trying to get rid of the pest which is Gremlin my team was evaporating his health pretty fast. The Fuso especially thanked me for the tactical support and the whole game was a blast. Off course, the next game in my Atago while trying to get into a forward location with some island cover, a 'friendly' Gearing torped me from second line. I told him how thankful I was and I also said I was not going to repair my flooding. Game was lost, was a landslide I saw in the battle results. And the Gearing didn't even apologize for torping from the second line So yeah, sometimes teamwork does happen, and it happens more often when you communicate. But sometimes you just meet turds who can't even play the game. And sometimes you meet those turds who can't play the game and who are also toxic. Gladly, especially this morning, most of my games were filled with people willing to follow a plan and secure a victory. -

I would really like to see the chatlogs for your games of say the past month or so, as I can be quite blunt in chat but I'm no where near getting as many reports as you ps if you continue on this path I think you will be looking at a permanent chat ban in the not so distant future. -

Well WG and their PR department have made some slips here and there ( ) but I believe them if they say it's determined when you receive it, for the soul reason as I couldn't think of why they could ever intentionally lie about it. Ofc, there is always the possibility there was some miscommunication going on somewhere. -

Nope, you get a chat ban when people dump enough report on you, no manual intervention required. edit: which is funny right, since on forums the +- votes where removed because they told us it was 'toxic' and the community was unable to self moderate, yet they introduce something like 'Karma' and automated systems which hands out chat bans if enough salty people report you. Battleship players: what is your problem? Why won't you tank?
mtm78 replied to Ferry_25's topic in Archive
couldn't agree more. To bad I keep getting all kinds of ad hominem thrown at me, just because I point out that: 1. The AI in PVE is dumb. 2. If you only play PVE, talking about tactics in this thread which as far as I can tell is about the prevalence of BB's not wanting to support their team properly, is a bit weird. Then I'm made out as some coward camper who 'abuses gameplay mechanics which according to him are against WG's wishes', and I'm told I probably do that because I can't play 'at the same level as him without hiding behind an island or in smoke'. I'm a CA/DD main, though I have 1k games in my BB's. And yes, I will play as tactical as I can with ALL my ships. And with CA/DD this means exploiting terrain and smoke as much as possible, since there is no other way. I think he forgets that when I play my Yamato, I tank for my team and I do it fairly well ( as a non BB main ). It's just a bit sad that I'm made out to be some coward, moron who can't 'play tactical while maneuvering', certainly from someone who claims as much as him. Then I'm made out to be elitist, when I've never done any such thing. Sure, I might complain about really bad players, but everyone does. It's part of online gaming, and I'm sure I've been complained about to in games where I did badly. But I have never claimed to be 'the best' in anything, to the contrary, I've said time and time again I'm not. Then 'real life' is brought up, and flight simulators, both of which have no bearing with this game at all. But, we're supposed to take that vast experience into account, forgetting that his only experience in WoWs is against the AI which denotes any possibility of a tactical approach to the game. I fully respect his right on his own opinion, and I've been using facts to support my arguments everywhere. To counter this, there has only been ad hominem towards my person. Not agreeing with his arguments, for instance that PvE doesn't give anyone actual insight in tactical play ( or any kind of 'play' ) since the AI has very simplistic behavior ( fact ) is moved aside with a continuous stream of ad hominem remarks. But no, I'm told I should undergo therapy btw, he's on my ignore list now, there is nothing he is saying which is of any value to me anyway. -

Editing posts after being replied to, even while you did remove some of your ad hominem, will not fall good with most people ;) Ow wow more of the same? Impressive. Sooooo... you're saying you could play exactly like me if you wanted but you choose not to? Your team will really like that choice Claiming I lack skill and giving tactical advice on this forum, using your PVE 'performance' as back up is really making you more credible Now, enjoy your Christmas -

I think the economy on top tiers is still not harsh enough. I been playing some more of my tier X's ( mainly some Yamato games ) and games where I did 'so-so' the most I ever lost is 80k credits on a loss ( and I do not have a premium account right now ). Not 100% sure which flags I had running, but again all those flags are obtained from the free chests or in game achievements so it's not like others don't have the possibility to do the same. 80k credits is nothing when even without premium account I can make a multitude of that in any premium I own ( though I must admit that with MM changes the credit earners for most players have not been as profitable as tier 5 which was where a lot of people grinded their credits is now a harsh environment ). -
Yet you still are linking to the site, guess that's also 'you're bad'?

Edit : wow that's like from last year btw... Next time check version before trying to start a [edited]... Nice linking there bud.... How about removing it asap?

This I would support. If you quit back to port you should get zero XP and credits awarded, as well as a cumulative counter for doing it to often leading to a few hours in the bench ( suspension ). Go down swinging please ps... yes I to have had instances where I 'gave up' but that usually meant just going YOLO and try to get some more dmg before ending with the fishes. -
out of likes sorry... wish we had the old up and down vote system back Indeed. The issue with 5 or 6 Shima's was the area denial and being fixed in orientation. WG should have kept the normal torps and just put a hard limit on the amount of classes in any particular match, it would have been SO MUCH BETTER AND ENJOYABLE. Unless you don't like teamwork and/or are a BBaby off course ( not sure those are mutually exclusive.. in fact I would wager it's actually inclusive ).

^^ Like the Montana I had yesterday with 44% wr ( seems legit right.. not that far below the average.. ) but 20k damage on it.. And who at the first comment towards him about his positioning ( which was worthless ) began to call my division noobs. I might not be a super unicum, but one of us has 70%+ wr on his tier X, and rightfully so he did point this out. But it didn't matter, we were all noobs and he was a 'great player' ( -> own words, no joke ). Dunning-Kruger in full effect there. I don't mind people who don't have the best results, it's because of them someone who is a little better then average can get very good results. But, when these people then also dismiss advice, and start to flame, ending about something with mothers and having sexual intercourse, something is very very wrong -
This would have been an automatic dismissal of the application if you actually had proof. Which is kind of sad, now that you can't proof it.

It's not my screenshot either btw, was posted by someone else all I did was save it and blacked out the names to adhere to forum rules if I wanted to post it again every time some new kid complains about 'the excessive amount of torpedo's' in current meta. I don't mind torpedo beats, it's fun if it works. It was frustrating with 5 or 6 Shima's per match though ( and sadly right when I finally unlocked Shima they changed the long range torps to make them useless ).
-
Then you're sol ( square out off luck ).
-
That one? Those are Shima walls though ;)
-
If you have a replay or screenshots, forward it to any of ST coordinators please! They will not look kindly at this behavior ;)

How about: C+B, A is a noob trap.. 10 seconds later I get shot by a BB from the other side of the map ( from MY team ofc ). Or... ignore X, it's useless right now we got to contest capzone... 3 seconds later -> beep beep beep... -> 'friendly' DD torped me. Stop thinking casuals aren't salty whiners, they are. Like I said, I got a fanbase which reports me BEFORE the battle starts. Guess my 10k forum posts have rubbed some shitters players the wrong way. edit: For my previous post; the 44% 20k Monty was sailing around an island being useless as he couldn't even engage enemies, so my division asked him what he was doing here. Immediate result: STFU noob. So yeah, that means we WILL check your statistics, since YOU ( or well the 44% 20k Montana ) did start it all. So yes, we will point out that 70% >>> 44% ( one of my division members, obviously not me as my stats are below my post ). And I WILL point out that 44% is terrible, just as 20k. And some other shitters casuals then start to blame my division... The Monty went on to talk about mothers and sexual intercourse, it was very refreshing ( meaning: it happens all the time ). It's almost always the deep red's which have the biggest opinions of themselves.

It would be very nice if the game launcher itself was able to install WG made/approved modifications, that way everyone who plays the vanilla game can still select modifications they would like to use, and there would be no fear of installing something dubious. The official WG modpack is a big step in the right direction though, you can not go wrong with a modpack which is maintained by WG's own developers.

Yeah the casuals are out in force and they got a hate campaign going on against everyone better then them trying to help them not do incredibly stupid stuff. 3 chat bans this week, and frankly I'm no longer ashamed of it at all. To many [censored] [censored] [censored] doing [censored] [censored] things which [censored] makes gameplay so [censored] chaotic and unpredictable. But, seeing there are just as many on enemy team, my wr isn't suffering and I will take my chat bans with pride as I will keep commenting on terrible behavior which ruins my gameplay enjoyment. Yesterday a 44% shitter player in a Montana with like 20k avg damage was telling me how he was a great player and my division were noobs! Granted, my division members were most definitely SCRUBS but they are NOT noobs. It's Dunning-Kruger in full effect, he was really convinced he wasn't a terrible player, there is no amount of facepalming which could cover that situation! edit: I must have also pissed off some group off 'casuals' though as I frequently find people at the start of a match going off: "mtm78 REPORTED" ... yes, that's before we started moving our ships
