Battleship players: what is your problem? Why won't you tank?
mtm78 replied to Ferry_25's topic in Archive
Why do good players constantly seem to agree fire isn't a problem, and 'other' player seem to stay convinced it is? -
Buffel is also distinctly different spelling then Buffalo isn't it

A Blys which HAS to make up a point deficit against a competent Belfast is not easy, but at the same time a Belfast which has to make up a point deficit against an equally competent Scharnhorst is in the exact same situation with the exception that at least Blys can attack it from stealth with torpedoes.- 452 replies

Battleship players: what is your problem? Why won't you tank?

Nah I rather make sure I survive and not be the lead as experience doesn't beat focused fire at all. Experience works best in mid to late game where you use that experience and win the game. Seems to work pretty well for me, I see no reason to change it. Now if I had a lower win ratio I wouldn't mind risking my own live early on, seeing how I managed to get where I'm at because I don't trust my team to not snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory ( unless it's people I know to be good then I might be more aggressive.. in fact each time I switch from solo play to division lately my first game ends within me dying first on the team having done something stupid which I would never do if I played solo ). -
You want to know what BB's are for and you been told that, yet you can't apply it because you can't aim. So in fact this topic is about your AIMING, not about the roles off battleships. I'm not here to 'EARN' your respect, I don't need it, I'm here because you can't aim and that's your problem ( and mine if you happen to be on my team ). While it might be 'fun' to have you on the enemy, I would rather see you improve so playing would be fun for the both of us no matter which team you're on.

Doesn't Gearing turn better ( like 40 or 50m tighter then Shima, while it's only got like .3s higher rudder shift )? Also, it just doesn't fit, the country with the best longest range and least visible torpedoes in the game having to close far within range of radar, fighter plane and what not cover, while Gearing can torp ( not reliably but still, it has excellent torpedo concealment so if some guy railroads for long enough he will eat some ) from well outside of these dangers. It just doesn't seem logical. At the very least the 12km torps should be a good alternative, with the same concealment as Gearing's 16km torpedoes. A Gearing with Torpedo Acceleration and reload boosters is to good of a torpedo boat compared with the 12km Shima and this is wrong. If Gearing isn't made less good as torpedo boat, then Shima should be made better imo. Or Fletcher should have 8km torpedoes, seems WG thinks it's fine for IJN.... /sarcasm I agree, the 12km Shima torps would be good in comparison with Fletcher, IF they get a concealment bonus.

No sane Blys would engage in a fair fight, why do you think it's helpless when Belfast doesn't have unlimited hydro so Blys can switch to torpedo boat role to fight it 1v1 if needed? Only if the Scharnhorst is not of equal skill imo.- 452 replies

Why do BBabies need to be able to avoid most torps they spot themselves? Do you think cruisers should have the same ability? If yes, do you mean you WANT cruisers to stay at their max range so they have some time to turn and try to hide their citadels? And aren't you also saying that BB's have to camp because the cruisers don't support a push? See the vicious circle there? The other option would be using your smoke defensively.to avoid getting perma spotted by a higher concealment enemy destroyer? Gearing lacks the speed to run ( either away of towards doesn't matter ), so I kinda get why it has to have low concealment

TIR 6..7..8..9..10 why we should put into coop battles these tir?
mtm78 replied to hatahualpa59's topic in Archive
Think about it this way-> you want more rewards. We ( generalization ) play PvP which is MUCH more skill demanding ( if you don't believe me, I have 100% wr in coop still ) and we should have matching rewards. How fair would it be if we need that much more skill, and someone could research the same ships through PvE in the same amount of time with the same economic returns? That would make a lot of people quit the game in disgust. If you want equal rewards, prepare to do equal work which in this case means playing the same game mode with the same difficulty. The last thing this game needs is people grinding their Yamato in COOP and then taking it to PvP. -
So better players give you wrong advice? Really? Wow, so that is how they got to actually be better players, by doing the wrong things! Thanks for letting us know. So your terrible hit ratio isn't due to your lacking aim? Mhm, thank for that bit of wisdom.

Depends, Gearing is only performing decent isn't it and I don't want to lower it's performance so if it relies on the longer range torpedoes then absolutely not. Btw isn't Gearings appeal the close range dpm, USN smokes and good concealment ( does it really have to be best? )?
-
You are probably right, but Shima isn't intended to spot more then Gearing, Gearing has to good concealment in comparison since it also has the higher hand in close range gunfights. I feel the balance is just not right, but I don't really want to nerf USN ( well I do think they should lose range on their torpedoes ) so a buff to Shima in another department makes more sense. Increase concealment a bit so it has a wider margin where it can turn and start kiting away from a gearing popping up from concealment?

Positioning is key with 8km torpedoes no one would deny that. And good positioning is skill based, no one would deny that. But when there are 3 radar cruiser on enemy team and they keep between me and my BB prey, my matches end up like crap as I don't have the patience to wait for my team to do something useful like focusing on those radar cruisers. 8km for the nation with historically the best long range torpedoes is completely wonkers. I don't want the old 20km back, that would mess up the game as everyone and their dog would return to shima 20km skill wall spam. But I think Shima should have good 12km torps, not good 8km torps

This. And what you said before, but mostly and most importantly this.

Avg tier 5 Stop mentioning Shimakaze if your highest tier ships are a Tirpitz and Scharnhorst ( bought ) Minekaze is already nerfed man, you can stop hating on them ok. And no IJN doesn't need better guns, it's the nation which had the best torpedoes in the war, and the game should reflect this. Having worse gun performance is a decent tradeoff for that. I voted for this as well, as well as torp reload buff ( but then it's very situational on which ships as some don't need any buffs here ). High tier USN could always stealth torp, WG added the ability to mid / high tier and they are quite slow there ( but have excellent concealment, like 1.1km with Benson iirc ). I don't mind Benson stealth torping, I think it's a trademark of DD's that most can do this except the pure gunboats. But a Benson isn't something which fights with guns at range unless the target is slow and big ( aka a BB ). The gun arcs are just not suited for it, so it having longish range torps is fine with me. It could use a nerf on the torpedo concealment ( in conjunction with a buff for IJN ). German DD's can stealth torp, I don't think they are overpowered atm they feel quite balanced ( even with the incredible gun bloom, and I have to admit I only reached mid tier by now ). I disagree. Fletcher and Gearing can torp from much further then 8km and this is a BIG safety margin with all the radar cruisers ( and Missouri ). IJN and USN should swap places here. Make the 12km torps the best choice in speed and concealment, and perhaps even nerf the torpedo ranges on the two top tier USN DD's to preserve IJN's speciality. I hate my Shima I do absolutely pleb in her. I also don't think F3's are the end all be all, as I see no reason for IJN to have less usable range then USN ( even if it has both harder hitting torpedoes and more of them ). PS. Don't change Akizuki, she's right where IJN gunboat DD's should be... well they should give it AAA consumable which they said they did not because they would to keep it an USN thing... but now VMF DD line split will give it to some VMF DD so that argument is pretty bonkers seeing Akizuki WAS a AAA platform.

My premium ran out in december Ignore the WG apologist, they like posting pictures with no actual meaning. ^^ my premium not being extended won't dent Serb's ability to --> But I can still run all my ships with full prem consumables and make enough credits to buy the ships I need so I guess it's a 'win' / 'not losing much'

Aimbot is game breaking, that's why it is forbidden The smoke boundary indicator also gave people an advantage in game or they wouldn't use it, but it wasn't ever forbidden. In fact it was made from the start by a WG dev ( in his free time as a mod ) and now it's in the vanilla client. Minimap with ship names, it's the same as in WoT, first it was a mod, then it went in to the standard client. Just like with aiming reticules, we had just one and a bunch of mods, now we got a lot in game most of which came from 3rd party mods.

It's all about how many tier 9+ dd's you meet who aren't potato. So your point makes sense. I just tend to expect to much even from my enemies
