Improving your understanding of the Game and what you should be doing....
mtm78 replied to SeaWolf7's topic in General Discussion
The problem is you're a minority recently. Most 'middle of the pack' still feel it's an insult if they are asked to do something different then what they are already doing. I wish it were different but it isn't. -

Improving your understanding of the Game and what you should be doing....

I said I would go to the back when I could, but yes I wanted that Fubuki gone so I turned into the enemy when I was spotted. I do have PT so I saw only one ship was actually aiming at me at first. The problem was as I said earlier as well, the moment I lit the Fubuki up, no one was in position to take advantage of it. The reason I was using smoke and not keeping up with speed + evasion tanking might be that I'm spoiled by Leningrad, Kiev feels so .. fat.. in comparison. I don't feel it's particularly good at evasion tanking, I could show some other replays where I was up against people with good aim and I just melted speedboosting and evading at 13km+. With Leningrad I can track incoming shells and evade where I think they will land, with Kiev I'm just preemptively evading and if the enemy predicts my 'pattern' I'm out of luck as I can't throw the ship around as fast as I would like. Ship might be a bit broken if it was as nimble as Leningrad as the gun's are without a doubt a lot better ( better angles mostly ). It was the first day I ever played with AmazingBeaver, he's an excellent player but I always have some adjustment issues when playing with new people. I even think I might get something like stagefright as every time I meet thissheep for instance in my team I also perform badly As for chasing after DD's, yeah that is what I would like to do, but as I been saying the evasion tanking capabilities feel like I shouldn't. Staying around 12 or 13km to anything except other DD's feels a lot more effective since Kiev can't really trade hp very well. I probably should run an SE captain on her to help with that. Especially in late games I'm often on such low hp where I just have to play very passive ( or accept I will eventually die to a 'lucky' shell ). Thanks for your advice, I will consider it and some of it I actually agree on already I hope it will make playing Kiev a bit more enjoyable for me -

I have tried, but the times I'm insulted by some sub 45% pleb are uncountable so I started to only do it when the situation allows it. In this case, the Scharnhorst would have never bothered with following advice. Nor would the Tirpitz in one of those other games. The moment you see a BB ping H1 on that map you know you're in trouble, certainly if it's a Tirpitz and you see him launch a spotter plane in the first minute of the match. It doesn't help that I can see people's stats during the game, the Tirpitz I am talking about has a sub 40% account win rate with something like 33% in his Tirpitz ( and not a few games... dozens of games ). Those people will NEVER listen to advice. Just as that NCal which commented that he could hit 'my mother' from 27km and that this game isn't Battlefield 1 The only times when advice is actually always worth it is when you see people doing things almost right. Because then it's perceived as a compliment since they are almost doing this right already. If you want someone to do something totally opposite of what he is already doing, it's taken as an unforgivable insult to their intelligence.. edit: this ofc excludes giving tactical advice at the start of a game. Which I didn't do this game because I was divisioning with someone I had not played with before really and I was having the worst games ever in the past days, so not really feeling up into telling people what to do. In hindsight though, I don't really think it would have helped. I would have had a much better game if I went and helped that Warspite division on the other flank I feel. -

Did you check the minimap during the game? No 'helpfull advice' would have changed those people's behavior, you don't start off with a Scharnhorst sniping at 20km+ with the use of a spotter plane next to an island so you can hide behind it if someone starts looking at scratching your paint, unless you think that's the behavior which is fitting for that ship. The NCal was even funnier, as he said this isn't Battlefield and he could hit my mother from 27km Now my possible misplays -> 1. choosing wrong flank to start off with 2. playing to aggressive in trying to spot the DD on my flank for my team so they could engage him, only to find that while lit up NO ONE in my team was in position or willing to actually make use of my spotting. 3. Not switching to the other flank right after noticing that. The chat, well maybe it didn't help but neither did their play so I think they got what was coming to them the game was lost from spawn with those players playing as they did. -

I didn't want to go to the other flank due to team only having two DD's and I thought I would be more useful there. The Kutuzov showing up made me play passive for a while as I didn't feel I had enough support to get spotted constantly and survive ( Kutuzov should have no issues dealing with a Kiev at 14km I know I usually don't when I play it ). Also, I hope you didn't mind my sarcasm / salt being dispelled to some of the players on my team.... edit: I had games where I played aggressive from the start, and yes I got damage done but all the other DD's I played so far allow also for a stealth approach, even Akizuki ( though that would be misplay in her, the playstyle is still so different due to Akizuki being so slow and turning like a whale ). Captain build is generic, I will eventually have to respec or train a new captain ( probably last due to line split coming up ). BFT + SE seem quite valuable much more then CE but I do like CE in Leningrad as I can contest caps even against IJN DD's ( speeds helps as well, if they spot me a few 100 meter sooner it's not a biggy as it takes a very short time to close the distance and spot them as well and they usually smoke up before I have to ). -

Thanks for sharing, that's 3 people who are generally good to excellent players which suddenly are getting 2x% win rate.... I bet WG is messing with us-> -

Going through my replays one by one, to me it looks like I might misplay sometimes but most of the losses were imo due to having really bad teams or really bad matchups. I've had games where our team two fletchers went awol to A cap where they were basically useless for the entire team on B and C leaving me to contest them against a bunch of IJN DD's with much better concealment and decent support, the games I rewatched where we had comparable lineups and where my team did what they were supposed to and I won those games, But I would love to know if WarburtonLee can give me some advice on how I could possibly have still won those games, you don't get 63% solo win rate if you can't carry in a ship -

Wow... are those recent games? I am uploading a couple of replays from today to wowreplays so I can ask Kiev players advice as I really can't get a decent win rate out of her edit: -> https://wowreplays.com/Player/eu/mtm78 still uploading but I got two on there from today. -
The minimum requirements was to illustrate that they are there for the reason that pc's which can not perform adequately will disrupt the gameplay experience of the player himself but also his team. Imo this extends to people who meet requirements but due to some other issue continuously load in late. It's wasn't meant to indicate I thought you're not meeting system requirement ;) I've had loading issues with some patches, or better said with some mods which which at times prevented battles from loading, causing me to have to restart with mods disabled. This usually takes me 30 seconds though and not a couple of minutes. And it hasn't happened since ... something in the 5.2 or 5.3 range of patches thank god It's als not a comment at your personally, it a general remark I would never report a fellow weeb

I tried the selfless self sacrifice be within 10km from enemy CA/CL thing with Kiev ( I said so in my previous post ) trying to rely on speed and evasion tanking but it doesn't work. Maybe I been unlucky with team's but over 3 days? Though you might be right in way that I am playing to conservative off my own HP with Kiev, as I been running that stats monitor on my second screen while playing and..well seeing the level of competence on my team usually made me not trust them in anything. Thing is, they been proving themselves to match my expectation time and time again -> http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/73189-world-of-cowards-yes-i-said-it/page__st__120__pid__1623102#entry1623102 Check that thread from some of the things which happened today in my Kiev adventures Really man it makes me sad, the only game I won today was in Donskoi and even there I had a Yamato insulting me because I didn't take Donskoi within 10km of an enemy Yamato :/ edit: also, Kiev can't stealth fire, there is no way to be dealing damage from 'safe distance' unless the enemy is a terrible shot. Kiev's sluggish as heck or so it feels to me so far -
Nah, loading in minutes late -> bot report. Just because I can't know if you had a legit reason to load in late that one time. And before you say: I load in late always but it's not my fault -> I agree with EdiJo, if it's regularly occurring to anyone that he loads in minutes late into the game, they should not play until they fix it. Minimum system requirements are there for a reason, there are also EULA segments forbidding actions which impair gameplay enjoyment of other players which also imo covers participating in a team based multiplayer game knowing your system will not run the game as intended. If it happens once in a dozen games I still don't like it, but I could live with it I guess. But as I have no way of checking the frequency I will just report those people as bots and let WG sort them out. Casuals != being minutes late into ( almost ) each and every game. Causal = I sometimes do stupid things but I can laugh about them

You just teached me how I should play my DD's, a class I been performing better in then you over a long period of time and with > 800 battles in them versus your < 100 Which gives you ample of space to actually beat me when you reach the same number of battles played. Ow btw, your win rate for the past 3 days might be really high, and mine terrible, I still have a unicum wtr even for today's 20% win rate. And when you get your Kiev and are constantly matched with teams which think it's a destroyer and it should contest caps at the start of a match, please save me the replays so I can see them and learn from you how I should play it ( and I mean that, I would love to see how I should actually play it as I don't plan on selling her anytime soon ). Ow and all those stats comparison's I just used, they are ALL solo stat comparison. Sorry bud, but your argument is flawed. ^^ seems to work pretty well. When you can show me I'm actually doing it wrong with my gunboats please do so. But not just with words edit: you're not wrong that DD's are the highest risk class, but it's not because they have to sacrifice themselves it's because they thrive the most on having the entire team actually doing what they should. With camping BB's, which leads to cruisers hanging back as they don't want to get focused by the entire enemy team the moment they are spotted, which leads to destroyers have less effective assistance from said cruisers, DD's are the most risk taking class especially gunboat DD's with bad concealment like a Kiev. I kinda wished I grinded through the line before they nerved Kiev a couple of times, I heard it was a beast! And it still is in some regards, but I can't make the ~8km concealment work with Belfast's / Fiji's and other DD's which spot me for them, when I have teams which think I should solo cap for them without getting any support. -
I had an actual answer, then I checked his profile.. then I changed the actual answer.... but this can't be anything but bait coming from a 42% wr in his DD's troll account. No one seriously doing that bad in DD's would want to remove smoke from them as they are hard to hit. Though his sub 20% hit ratio in BB's might actually show he is serious.. darn I hope not!

I rank ColonelPete as a very good player, but my experience is not the same as his. And while he is very good, I am not a potato either Icba to go through my replays showing A + B working, nor would it actually proof anything ( just like his replays don't proof the opposite ). My damage in a DD going for A first totally depends on enemy reaction and subsequent follow up. If get A without enemy opposition and have to move past B before I get back into the fight while my team is good and is dealing damage throughout that time, I'm sol. If enemy is opposing A with force which I can counter, and then opposed B with force I can counter, I've had some of my highest damage games doing that. Again, one guy ( even one good player ) having an opinion based on his personal experience is not the same as a fixed set mantra which is always true. We are NOT talking about A cap on Islands of Ice here for instance I'm an Aspie, I always have troubles understanding public behavior So you're not wrong. But with a supporting team composition and spawn, I will keep saying that A + B is the best tactical approach
-
Yes that is why BB's can have 30% fire chance per shell along with doing massive damage But yes, BB's weak buff BB's plox wg edit: fires are OP, CA/CL should get IFHE by default and BB's should lose the fire chance, that would make the game so much more balanced.....

Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
mtm78 replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
I feel you can have a larger impact with Leni due to the concealment ( and wiggle ability giving you avoidance tanking potential like a boss ). Kiev is much better at gun fights at range but it's also much harder to avoidance tank in it when the ranges get closer. And Leni can contest caps, certainly with a CE captain, even in early game when with Kiev this seems suicide most of the time. -

mtm78 replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
I forgot a 'not' in the post you quoted, Leningrad IS the better destroyer simply because Kiev is more a light cruiser then a destroyer -
I division more with people with worse stats then with better stats, AmazingBeaver yesterday was an exception and even he couldn't help turn my bad performance cycle around

Nah you're just playing it wrong. 40k average damage for a Zao is far to low, and you have a far to high torpedo hit ratio. You shouldn't be in a location that often with Zao to actually use those torps. Zao is a long range HE spammer pur sang. And for ranged engagements, Zao has ample turret traverse, and the ROF isn't that important if you have THE most potent HE shells of the game dealing both massive damage and starting lots of fires. Not that I play it like the top players, I stopped playing it all together and grinded Hindenburg and now going for Moskva. It's, when played to it's strengths, the best tier X cruisers according to most of the better players. It's also considered a bit boring since long range HE spam isn't the most thrilling play style.
