Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
mtm78 replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
I don't buy this, Nelson isn't an Izumo, the 3rd turret isn't facing backwards so why would it be a problem? The biggest issue would be that the guns follow a different design philosophy. Unlike the other RN guns, these fired light shells at high velocity, like the German guns did. That might cause some adjustment issues, but still... Meh, in the end I'm fine as long as I can play an oil tanker ( and it's not 'hard' to obtain ). -
RN CL's from Leander upwards are amongst the best performing cruisers in the game, they just have a high skill requirement.

Funny though, that cartoon ship is probably the most fun IJN dd there is at the moment, since Akizuki's 'fun' went away now it has to evasion tank with a larger turning radius than battleships. -
Maybe it indicates that the level of intelligence possessed by the playerbase is significantly less than what we would expect from a normal random selection out of the entire human population. There is no quote abuse, there is just stupidity.

Uhm eurobeat.. yeah I posted videos from him on here when no one else knew him, I just had a brainfart as to the name of the channel
-
Well he doesn't suck, he is above average really :) But he does sometimes say things in videos which are just so wrong I can't send people there to learn from him, I would feel worried all the time if the people I send were capable of seeing which tidbits to use and which to ignore. Really, if you can stand the salt, watch Flamu. If you need less salt, watch Flambass or Fara. Or strangers123 when he streams, or Izo or .. what was his name, he used to be a good guy but they he got hired by this big gaming company.. well anyway there is actually quite a long list I would even advice to watch PHJ with his pidgeon internet over Jingles, unless it's done mostly for the entertainment. The thing about most of the players there is that they have good chat interaction for the most part ( even flamu ) and gameplay will be explained if ask for it. That is so much more helpful, I mean you can't learn if someone doesn't explain the thought process going on during the game. edit: btw yeah my channels are all pretty 'related' to each other I guess, Yuro I never heard about btw. I only check english streams, which is a shame as there seem to be some decent German streamers active on Twitch covering WoWs.

I wouldn't give a link to Jingles for anyone looking to improve on the game ( as main focus point ). Even pulling a Notser beats killing Jiblegs. It's good entertainment though, and his recent stance during FochGate™ is also appreciated.

Perth, Albert & Duca are back! But not for doubloons? :(
mtm78 replied to zaaaaaaP's topic in General Discussion
Well I have a couple of 19 point captains but I don't play them enough to get a lot of elite xp on them. Also, I have used so much to get captains up to 12 or so, I have lots of 'decent' captains for all nations EXCEPT German, French and Italian. -

There are lots of players with enough elite captain xp so for them it is an non issue. I am NOT one of them sadly.. -
Have you bought Belfast, Kutuzov? if so prepare to be shocked...

And replaced with what? Or do you argue that 'just removing the ability' is a good description of an development plan :P -
Sure, but he'll have to wait haven't played in weeks ( and won't as long as I got the kids during summer break ). He could jump onto the WG ts as well, or the in game SCRUBS channel ( we are open to guests, don't worry we don't bite but we might lick your windows!

Opening post is confusing, I know he mentions premium account once but he also says he bought the cammo. Somehow I feel he doesn't run premium account just the cammo, on the other hand 17k is really bad... Good point, I'd recommend VMF or IJN cruisers ( both very different styles though but both are equally viable ). Need a hug? ( I like the avatar ;) ). Don't feel bad, it doesn't say anything about you as a person it just says you need to learn about the game a bit. Even the best started out knowing nothing ;)

Also, with 800 battles there is no need to feel rushed to tier X. Get comfortable with the ships you're going to grind, your performance will increase and you will be a better player when you reach higher tiers ( hopefully, on average people improve with experience, some never do though ). edit: to clarify, you haven't stopped learning when reaching tier 6, the learning curve goes all the way to tier X. Getting Mino and now knowing how to play her is not going to be as much fun so why not take it easy. Trust me, having a tier X doesn't mean you'll suddenly be a better player ( or get better results due to always being top tier ).

Post screenshots of after battle results please ( detailed results including damage done to which ships ) then people can tell you how and what. edit: you're doing 17k average damage with your Edin, that is the issue.

@Loran_Battle better not click that link -
Indeed, and that happened throughout development cycle. But I didn't even mean it for personal statistics tracking, but for balance reason. WG already struggles ( sounds a bit negative, but there are issues ) with balance with one meta ( decided by MM ) how could they balance two? And how would that interact with players opinion? People playing mainly in one meta would not have the same references as people in the other. It's impossible.

I got a feeling I might need to apologize for opening that can worms... Then again, maybe this discussion about relative values and testing methods could take place outside of this thread as I fear it might drag on and on and on and on... as these do almost always :) -
Yes it would, it would create two different games, one during 'peak hours' and one outside of those. That might not literally end the world it would end any and all use for performance metrics to mean anything unless you have full access to who/what/when/where/who-else... Also, if the world wouldn't end, why do you think we have forced mirror matchmaking? Who would want to press battle and KNOW beforehand that the game you will play will likely get Only the PlayForFun™ I guess.

Co-op?

There is no challenge in such an imba match. I don't see the fun being steamrolled, or steamrolling a random team which had no chance from the start :) But I get your point.
-
I can not imagine what kind of players would consider horrendously imbalanced matches a bonus...

Strangely, I agree with your statement As to the rest, afaik ( and this is from hearsay second hand told by my uncle Bob's dear grand niece who had a brother who knew .. well you get the picture ) -> IJN -> huge difficulties getting sufficiently thick enough armor slabs. USN ( early / pre war ) -> below baseline GE -> let's call it 'baseline armor quality'? USN ( late war ) -> above baseline FR -> above baseline?? ( Shin told me, must be true! ) RN -> above baseline VMF didn't really built any capital ships, and their armor producing capabilities were worse than IJN. But this is just what I think, I don't have enough credible sources to claim it's true. Infact, if someone has sources which say otherwise I would gladly read them :) -

mtm78 replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
This is the problem. There are no unified sources which have tested all armor represented in game ( using a single testing method ). Therefore, it's impossible to actually put values on 'real life performance'. There is a lot of national bias going on, with multiple countries making claims about their armor qualities and 'testing' which supports it. A lot of this data is controversial though, as there was a lot of PR going on. And the few tests done after the war are to limited in scope to apply to all the different armor ( periods ). Btw, if you want to model 'relative quality' do you also model fatigue? Some battleships had very thick armor but when the war broke out this armor was old and brittle and no where near as effective as it looked. How far would WG need to take this before it was 'realistic' enough? Again, it might not be what you want but I don't see how WG could actually model 'armor quality' in a way which wouldn't just bring more controversy to the game and make the game's engine needlessly complicated in the same time ( and the more complicated, the bigger the risks of bugs ). -

mtm78 replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
This discussion is fruitless, that is why WG decided to not model armor qualities. There isn't one single credible source which properly equates every kind of armor we have in game, it would be impossible to actually accurately mimic 'equivalent armor thickness' for all qualities of armor. Just using armor thickness is about as fair as you can make it.
