Yeah Takru is arguing this pretty well in the 'Discussion thread for interesting info', with pictures and all ;) I didn't like reading S_O saying there will be no switching... it would be so wrong and add so many more issues especially to MM. Also, if you can't switch, the new torpedo setting will have negligible effect on BB population as not enough DD's will run with it.

    Well you mention marks are a nice addition if 'useless' as it's just 'cosmetic'. First of all, if a change is just cosmetic it does nothing for gameplay and should have the lowest possible priority. Secondly, it would be possible to create something which actually would add something valuable to marks if they were tied with specific parts of gameplay. Like I explained, it is not useful ( and thus indeed just cosmetic ) to know if someone is 'above average player in his ship'. That just tells me he is not bad. It doesn't tell me anything about how he plays his ship. Now change generic 'marks' based on damage dealing, with something actually useful like indicating if a ship/captain will be helpful to you in any given situation like vs carrier planes. Or if a ship/captain is very good at spotting. Or at contesting caps. Those are things which is they are visible to me through 'marks', I can use that information to better support others in my team. It should enhance gameplay in random battles that way. a bit like how good players can use XVM, but without the toxic side effect XVM can have for mediocre or bad players.

    Tell them about the map with the Icebergs which WG finally gave hidden engines so they don't just move downstream in a predictable manner but can do a sudden 180 the moment EvilTuccy™ presses his WG_BIAS_RED_BUTTON©.

    I told you where to look, it's only a couple thousand posts in that thread should be easy. Also, there is a forum search function, if you're really having this discussion not to argue but to find common consensus you would have already used it.
  9. I am happy to see there are people like you with the ST tag Hopefully this new mechanic will make WoWs great again, and put an end to the reign ( reign yes, not rain you silly Martian... ) of the BBa.. well you know what I was going to say right :D

Just as looking for quotes, though I would advise you to go read the 'Interesting news from the world' thread.... it's certainly in there but I will NOT act as your lapdog and go fetch you something you should look for yourself.
  11. The problem would be that unless you allow people to switch in game like other classes have to use he or ap on their primary armament ( guns ), you're limiting their versatility. A Shima with 20km torps which can't torp smoke clouds / dd's, has no point in even trying to contest a cap zone. I do hope MM will start to take into account roles instead of classes if you take away the flexibility of destroyers... which is still weird as that is their actual attractions -> flexibility. We're already getting quite specialized lines, with USN and GE being cap bullies, VMF being long range spam and IJN... well it's still mostly crap since 100% torpedo focused gameplay has been killed of with the torpedo nerfs. Already MM can put 4 VMF DD's vs 4 IJN DD's ( even though nation mirroring/spreading should prevent this ), and while I fully believe the statistics leading WG to say that there isn't any noticeable difference from having a DD more or less not even in domination.. I do think role distribution has an effect on match outcome. Getting one team with 3 radar's and not having any yourself for instance. Making the torpedoes ineffective vs one target and more effective vs another, and then not letting people switch in game like people now switch HE and AP, will just create more specialized ships which the MM will randomly throw on a pile.
  12. Sub_Octavian had this to say when asked if he was following this discussion -> No choosing in battle -> limits the effectiveness of any DD taking either torpedo armament type. I will repeat I feel it should be like HE and AP with just being able to switch on the spot. But I'm very curious what the initial results of testing will be and what would be changed based upon those results for round 2 :)

  17. I have ONE tier X DD..... and it's a Shima.. and torpedo gameplay is death... so no I don't enjoy Shima. But I enjoy my gunboats / hybrids.
  18. This might work for a CV which can CHOOSE who to strike, it can NOT work for DD's because DD's have to be flexible during battle about what their role is. I don't think WG is so stupid it will tell us to take anti bb torps from the start and just wing the rest. That would be the last nail in the coffin for me.
  19. Yamato didn't make up 60% of the tier X games, at any time, so your comparison is like always, off. And please keep sniping in your BB's I love meeting you on the enemy team that way.
  20. This only applies if WG doesn't allow switching which type you load during a battle. I said that based on an assumption, and because I think the torpedoes will have to give up something in order to be so much more stealthy, and I think it will be speed ( but not that much, maybe 5kts compared with the shallow draft? ). What if the deep draughts are slower, slower by such a margin those anti bb torpedoes work best against bow camping / static targets?

  23. And not all DD's are equal. All BB's are battleships, some destroyer are stealthy gunboats some are light cruisers. MM should differentiate more between them though to create more balanced matches in general. Also, if this is implemented correctly it wouldn't shift to DD meta, it would only fix BB meta. In the end, both will still lose numerically to cruisers ( or well, that's the intended idea right :D ).

    I wouldn't pay a dime to give some random Royal Navy destroyer a Dutch name just because she served in the Dutch navy, and I hope no one else would either. WG better add proper Dutch ships to the game.
