God damm I was hoping that this game is good. Finally I can have some staying power and engage in some epic firefight action...except the shells troll like mad, dds are invisible and aircraft fight sux. Even if I line up the perfect shot, which I can tell because all shells impact around the center of the enemy's ship and the shells land on both sides, way, WAAAY too often you just get trolled and now you got a 30 sec reload...2 hits, 1000 damage (1 shell bounced off). I don't know what I was expecting, it's like WOT but with 12 guns and firing at 20 times the distance. So many times I see the salvo approach, I get excited because the shot was accurate and then...nothing. The best way to turn off a player. At least 1 in 5 salvos are like this. Air to air sucks and if your CV loses then you get torped to the bottom of the sea and there's absolutely nothing I can do about that unless I'm the CV...except even if I'm the CV it still comes down to RNG (especially at lvl 4-5 that is just pure RNG and pure frustration for 2 tiers, no thanks) as some guy on youtube explained. And then let's not talk about 'what if the CV sux and loses his fighters' because that's just 1 person ruining the entire team's game. And DD torps man...I understand that DDs beat BBs and that they are sneaky and yes you can beat them, but last game I had torps coming literally out of nowhere, not even a smokescreen, just plain open sea and suddenly torps. There's absolutely no excuse for that, none. Even though on ship terms it's a small ship, IT'S STILL A F***ING SHIP! It's not that hard to notice at open sea in clear weather. Also, everyone plays BB so DDs are having the time of their lives. I have no cruisers to support me against them so they just swim circles around me and do what the hell they want. Even if I hit them with a salvo (which is insanely hard if they are actively maneuvering against it, also, remember the troll shells?) they will live, and they get to farm medals on me and then just drop a smokescreen like some ninja and disappear. The only thing that works against that is cruisers and teamwork and by now I learned that both of those are missing. All this while working through the standard WG grind and having to play ships that suck. So yeah, the game is frustrating, uninstalled. Yes I'm sure there's people at this game that are amazing and I had some good games myself, but I'm not going to believe that they aren't getting trolled all the time. There's waaay too much RNG and too many things I can't control and problems I don't have tools to work against (DDs, torp bombers). 'why did you post this?' Maybe someone at WG cares. Also I wanted to vent because I spent money on the game and now I'm regretting it.

    I don't understand air-to-air exchanges

I played CVs before this patch was introduced but that was a very long time ago BUT it was enough to familiarise myself with the concept. I actually was startled why I couldn't do it at first. The guy did mention that RNG extends to strafes too.

    I don't understand air-to-air exchanges

But yeah, if that's the case I simply won't be playing carriers. If RNG can screw me over so hard and getting screwed so hard is so bad (as in: complete loss of air control, out of fighter planes) then playing CV is bound to be a source of pure frustration for me. The spread on my main guns is already testing my patience, this is too much.

    I don't understand air-to-air exchanges

Easy solution: Integrate World of Warships with World of Warplanes lol

    I don't understand air-to-air exchanges

Playing CV feels crap right now. At T4 I can't strafe so I'm left with 'click on enemy planes and hope for the best' but then it seems to be decided largely on RNG. I've just been in the game where the enemy carrier sent his entire airforce to get me, and even though I had my fighters and a friendly CA to fend them off, not only they took off 3/4 of my hp but I also lost my fighters? And once you do find yourself with less fighters, you are basically worthless because no air superiority means no bombers and torp bombers either. So it feels like I get into the game, and if I lose more fighters for some obscure reason it's just over. Same for them of course, I'm not saying I'm always the one who loses, but it seems to be down to a dice roll. Surely, I must be missing something?

Where are all the cruisers at?

I said 'next to no'. I've just been in a game where our side literally had 0 cruisers and the enemy had 5 DDs, that is admittedly what prompted this thread. But I do see fewer cruisers than BBs, and there is the occasional game where they are completely absent from one side.

Where are all the cruisers at?

I'm back to playing WoWs after about a year and around t5-6 playing BBs I see next to no cruisers of any kind. In queues the counter shows around 4 battleships for every cruiser. This is especially problematic since DD seems to be the second most popular choice and with 19 knots and the silhouette of an island I'm quite the target. Is this an issue? I'm not balance-complaining, but I do find the absence of my counter's counter... *frustrating* . Does WG have anything planned to fix this? Is this only so at mid tiers? My guess would be that Battleships is simply the one that would appeal to most people, myself included, but surely, cruisers could be popularised somehow? https://imgur.com/a/yN3eU here there are 7 battleships per cruiser

Why does the New York have such crazy range?

I know their guns are good, I've never complained about them being bad, I'm just reacting to the other commenters.
  9. SirLloydHigginsBoomBoom

Why does the New York have such crazy range?

Well they've been called slow, short-ranged and soft. I would say that sounds like an awful combination.

Why does the New York have such crazy range?

So US BBs are crap? Is that the bottom line?
  11. SirLloydHigginsBoomBoom

Why does the New York have such crazy range?

She can hit as far as 20.9 km, then that range goes away until Tier 8 with the Carolina. Does that range compensate for some weakness I should be aware of? Why do I lose so much range (a whooping 6 kms) when I go up to T6? Even after the upgrade that's -5kms at best. The gun doesn't seem much more powerful either and the turrets turn WAAAY slower.

Are IJN Tier X large ships still superior to their USN counterparts?

Is it like Arty was in WoT? Everyone complains about them until they realise they are impossible to balance and then nerf them into oblivion?

Are IJN Tier X large ships still superior to their USN counterparts?

Hi thanks for the replies. I am a platinum division Starcraft 2 player so managing any amount of airplanes will be a piece of cake for me (my APM peaks about 200 in battle), and so if the Hakaryu is superior then Hakaryu it is. Having said that I am curious why is it that you barely see CVs in Tier X games?
  14. Are IJN Tier X large ships still superior to their USN counterparts? I read very detailed forum posts with plenty added calculations from 2015 showing how the IJN TX capital ships are way better than their USN counterparts. I am currently on the New York so it's still not too late to change tech tree, and if the IJN ships are SO much better and WG has no plans to remedy that then I'll change tech trees today. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE no political correctness crap! 'Oh it depends on your playstyle, oh they both have strengths and weaknesses'... I don't want to make the same mistake as I did in WoT and grind out a Tier X only for it to be completely useless. Aircraft carriers are terribly designed

Okay, you would think if something is as essential as the alt key they would make it more obvious that you need to use it. It's like not telling a moba player that they need to press R to ult. Well in that case number 3 is eliminated, however the rest still stands. Especially the higher tier enemy fighter things bothers me because there is no way to work around it with skill, it's just a question of brute force. And unlike aircraft carriers, tiers for direct fire warships don't make THAT much of a difference. Unlike in WoT where 1-2 tiers can make you stand no chance against the enemy here, I don't feel like I need to turn around and run if I see a battleship 1 tier higher than me, which is great. AND unlike fighter planes, I can out-shoot, out-manouver, out-torpedo etc. them. And yes, I am good at this (believe it or not), but if I'm working on missing information than obviously I will have problems.
