Nelson - passive gameplay and camping intensifies!!
Verdius replied to G01ngToxicCommand0's topic in General Discussion
Obviously 25mm bow armour is terrible. Every other T7 BB has it but Nelson needs better because reasons. And she needs god tier AA because otherwise it is trash. Unless it is completely idiot proof and impervious to damage it is immediatly a horrible ship. I mean people have only played like 10 games in it max but we already have such well thought out criticism like: And people wonder why powercreep happens and OP crap like Belfast gets released and idiotic changes like the USN citadel near removal happens? She has better turning circle and rudder shift than Nagato. She also has more firepower located in a better setup that allows her to easily switch targets with all 9 guns and has better angles with those turrets as well. Oh and she has way better concealment and mega heal as well. But obviously she would be crap if she has the same bow armour as Nagato or Colorado. Why would you be allowed to overmatch their bows but they are not allowed to overmatch yours? But sure lets make her impervious to Nagato, Colorado, etc from the front as well because sitting bow on and reversing is so much better for the meta and somehow is not considered passive. And of course this shouldn't be punishable by carriers so lets give her massive AA as well.- 81 replies

Don't forget Akizuki which gets to shred angled DDs and superstructures.

The problems of being able to disengage a dogfight with the strafe-attack.
Verdius replied to rr1774's topic in General Discussion
I'd hate to say this but this is mostly a case of: I'm not a particularly good CV player (Partly because the few battles of CV I played were mostly for the sake of farming plane kills for missions over a year ago) but I think T6 CV's are fine. You have only 10 battles in your Ryuujo so I think that this is mostly a case of lack of experience and having to adjust. If you can ignore the animu's Because aside from the random Clevelols and provided MM does not put you in a full on T8 match and against Saipans it should be decently manageable. AA creep mostly happens from T8 and up. -

Not that I need an excuse, but if there is one I'll take it! -

The only real problem with the strafing out mechanic (and T7 CV's in general) is Saipan. WG should never have released that powercreeping PoS -
Better than Cleveland? De Grasse? Budyonny? You sure about that?

One of my bigger issues with (AP) bomb only loadouts is that damage is wildly inconsistent. With torpedo bombers if you hit a torp you know how much damage it is going to do if you drop. You can see exactly how many torps you are going to hit and where they are going to hit. If you drop AP bombs than it might do anywhere between 6k to 30+k damage depending on if you hit a German BB, how many bombs RNG deigns you hit, and whether they randomly hit the citadel or just overpen the bow. You success is largely dependent on enemy team composition, and even then your RNG can be all over the place when it comes to damage numbers even against the same ship.

But they have 203mm guns so that doesn't matter - Eugen is over 1km detection more than 203mm Martel and 2.5km more than 203mm New Orleans and Mogami though. And Eugen/Hipper are already the worst performing T8 cruisers. -

Oh hey look Belfast and Black are also getting buffed. Also why do Eugen and Hipper get such a comparatively massive smoke penalty? -
I am honestly fine with the changes that were announced. However there are some things that I would like to go with these changes as well: 1. First of all no more MegaZao of balance. That thing and the abomination of powercreep at the preceding tier need a nerfbat. Conqueror is like a IFHE cruiser on steroids as is. You can't in good conscience say that IFHE cruisers are a problem and then release this into the game. 2. Buff all cruisers of tier 8, not just light or premium cruisers by giving them the heal consumable. Also tweak some ships like Hipper and give Chapayev a bit of a mobility boost to make it a bit more competitive with Kutuzov for a reason other than 'it has radar but is functionally weaker in every other way' Cleveland, Budyonny, Bertin, De Grasse, Shchors and especially Belfast etc don't need IFHE though.

I am mostly just here to savour the tears of Belfast players anyway. -

Honestly this is one of the few times that I don't particularly think that it is just a vs BB issue. Light cruisers just massively outperform heavy cruisers due to having way better DoT and with IFHE also get way better DPM. Having to choose between the two makes CL's a bit more balanced compared to slower firing CA's. Cleveland, Belfast, Kutuzov etc were all strong before IFHE was introduced and they'll be fine after the nerf as well. BBs can be brought in line in other ways. -

Judge for yourself. But this definitly shouldn't be buffed (again). Also the proposed smoke change doesn't look too bad honestly. Might have liked the detection a bit lower on German and French cruisers but overall I don't think it will be too devastating on DDs and most cruisers. -

Probably for the best since right now there isn't really a point in playing heavy cruisers over light cruisers. Russian cruisers, Cleveland etc were fine before the introduction of IFHE and probably will still be decent even after the nerf. Also a nerf to the Belfast which is great as well. Although honestly I'd also like to see the fire chance nerfed for IFHE German BB secondaries as well. -
WG nerfing a BB Yeah we both know that's not going to happen
-
Actually their potential HP is some of the highest due to the heal

I've heard that the average range is also... well an average and that Mino might get ~5,4 km detection but Hindenburg goes out way further to over 10kms. So really only ships that have the smoke consumable will be able to get a big advantage from smoke. -
The wording seems to imply that the debuff only happens if you are physically inside the smoke. Could you (or someone else from WG) clarify if you also get your detection increased if you fire from behind a smokescreen? Because otherwise it would be very easy for a BB to just sit a few meters back and still receive full benefits of the smokescreen.
-
Can someone pull out the damage chart that shows that torpedo hits only count for a small amount of damage to BBs compared to other sources? Seriously, being weak to torpedo's as your only weakness is ridiculous. How many torp hits do you even take during the average game? Not having a citadel is waaaaaaay better than having only a 'minor' damage reduction against torpedo's on some of the most maneuvrable BBs.
-
I think that was the point WG had issue with and was delibirately targeting though
-
Just ammended my comment but the T9 and T10 definitly seem to powercreep on the USN BBs and the lower tiers seems quite broken compared to the current ships that populate them. (Poor Kawachi) Nelson seems quite ridiculous for a T7 as well, although there is little to still powercreep at that tier since we already have such 'balanced' ships like Belfast and Saipan.
-
Yeah I'm quite worried about more high tier (and to an extent lower tier, and I guess with Nelson mid tier as well) powercreep. So far nothing that WG has said has alleviated those worries in the slightest.

I don't think that DB only CV will be well received by the playerbase, but I may be wrong. What GZ seems to lack is versatility. It seems to have nothing going for it compared to say Enterprise or Shoukaku which are far more versatile (and can far more reliably damage targets that are not BBs through torpedos), offer far better options to deal DoT through torpedo bombers paired with DBs (even AP E has a chance for DoT), while retaining a high alpha strike and on top of that have better fighters. They also lack the weakness that comes from having planes with lowered health, which Big E gets the T9 module to compromise for. I don't really see why in a random battle (or any other mode) with mixed class teams anyone would pick a 2-0-3 GZ over a 2-2-2 Shoukaku or 2-2-2 Enterprise. And if there is one class where the statistics of better than average players matter it seems to be CV since they have the largest and most notable/impactful skill gap. -

Conqueror compared to Montana seems to outperform her in every meaningful category besides long range AA (and some minor AP damage) however. Conqueror has a lower citadel, benefits more from plunging fire (especially against targets like Hindenburg), fares better against cruisers and DDs due to better fusetimes leading to more full penetrations, has far better concealment, hugely improved HE and one of the highest potential HP in the game which can be healed even when under heavy fire from multiple ships. For Clan wars/competitive there won't be much of a point to take a Montana. Aside from that there doesn't seem to be any reason to ever equip the 457mm guns as they don't offer better performance over the 419mms.
