PSA: World of Warships showmatch at The Grand Finals
MrFingers replied to MrConway's topic in General Discussion
It was brave, but it was just not good, so we should be able to say it was not good, in the hope that it won't happen again next time. Maybe the idea should have been scrapped when it became apparent that there wasn't enough time to prepare enough. You can only make a first impression once, and this stain will stick for a while. To put an analogy with music... Take a listen at this. Not prepared enough, hastily executed... and the results are the same. Should we say "hey, that was played excellently, you've really shown yourself as an excellent musician worthy of our praise". No. It was not good. Next time: be prepared. If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the reactor. If you have the courage to come forward with something (especially if you know that it is not as well prepared as it should be), than you should also be courageous enough to take the (rightfully and constructive) criticisms when it all went south. We're not here on kindergarten talent show where every attempt should be applauded with, no matter how ballwrenchingly bad it is. Many forumites have voiced their concerns and appreciation/remarks here in a polite and adult way. Take that advice for granted, instead of bathing yourself in self-loathing and "oh no it is not fair that we get this criticism because blablabla" -
But it's again one of the WoWS-premiums that will be better than the elited techtree equivalent (and thus P2E). Wargaming always had the adagio that a Premium should be better than its equally tiered stock ship, but worse than the elited one... They seem to have dropped that for a large part for the Premium ships in WoWS, which results in a nasty P2E (and P2W in ranked/team) taste. What's the use in grinding up the techtrees if you can buy your way to a better ship without all the hassle.

What competitors are there? Steel Ocean and the almost-defunct Warthunder (which is killing itself with the compression-BR system). And there is no way a company can catch up with something that is already half developed by the first company. I'm not asking for total exposure of things that are in the pipeline, but of stuff that is being worked on, and has passed the stages of "initial development" (let's say: "further than 60% done")

Still, a bit more transparency would not hurt the game, the company nor the players. Now we're left in the dark about almost everything, and when there is finally some news, there is absolutely no time to react to it accordingly, because the announcements are just minutes ahead of the implementation. What would work is not working with deadlines, but have a regular news bulletin in a fixed interval (every once in a month for example) in which stuff that's being worked on is explained. For example: Month 1: - As you might have heard from the Q&A, the next ship branch will be the German BB's. The status of them as of today is that they are designed and modelled, and we're still tweaking the final details, after which we can work with the balance and implementation in the game - We're also working on another branch of ships, but we're not saying yet which branch it is, or what nation. What we can say is that we have already decided which ships it will be, and the research and the coarse modelling is nearly done, so we're left with the skinning, details and gameplay mechanics. - In the 2016 roadmap video, there was a mention about the implementation of weather. We've further tweaked that, and it is nearly ready for implementation on the live server. Next month, you can look back on the things you said the month before, and add new info, so: - The German BB's are now fully designed and working, but not yet balanced. - The next branch is fully modelled, but not yet detailed. We are however quite on schedule with it, so we don't see any reason for delays - The first iterations for weather are now completely ready, tested and stable, and will be implemented in the next update. The month after that, it can be something like this: - The German BB's are now completely ready, and will be implemented during the next major update. - The next branch is also nearing completion, with just gameplay balancing needed to be done. They won't be ready for the next major update though, but we're nearing the final stages of development for that branch - The first iteration of weather is now implemented. We're now working on something completely new that will enrich the immersion quite a bit. It's still to early to discuss what that is about, but the research into it is nearly done. By doing so, you're giving your players (and clients) some valuable insights in what you're working on, yet you don't have to use deadlines, while still giving players somewhat of a timeframe to expect stuff/content in. And you don't have to be mad because there are ST leaks, or datamining of test-patches, since you now control the flow of information yourself, and can dictate more of what may be known and what not. A huge part of the datamining, ST leaks and the popularity of TAP-sites is the fact that WG does not invest in its own proper broadcasting of news and plans. People demand information, so they can plan ahead (and so they know/can be (re)assured they're not sinking money into a bottomless pit). And by having a steady flow of new newsitems that replace the obsolete ones (that are either scrapped, or implemented, and thus not of any newsvalue anymore), you can have your core playerbase hooked to the game. Yes, that demands some transparancy for the RU-office, as well as some extra labour for the EU-office, but the profits will outweigh the efforts.

That's because it's the dock is for the SS Normandie, a big ocean liner.
-
But it only has 3-per-side, and the reload is quite long for a T3.

I think... he is confused with the WoT-forums, and the mission-rigging done by clans in terms to win an OP Russian T10 tank, the T22.

PSA: World of Warships showmatch at The Grand Finals
MrFingers replied to MrConway's topic in General Discussion
The games by themselves were actually pretty good (well played, well balanced), however... The narration by WG was appalling (they had no clue what they were talking about), as was the quality of the stream (weird camera angles, cutting out of actions to show absolute nonsense),... -

From what I saw: idea and concept: 9/10 preparation: 4/10 execution: 1/10 I honestly gave it a shot, but it was very painful to watch, and after 2 matches I switched the PC off, and did something else. While it had so much potential, it was euthanised quickly by ill preparation by the narrators and the crew responsible for what was shown on any given time on the stream. And sadly enough, it's not the first time that such a thing happens: a great idea turning awry because of a lethal cocktail of laziness, ignorance and ineptitude by the executioners of it. I was disappointed in it, but (sadly) enough I somehow expected it to be, which is a shame. And than the total farce with promocodes not working I gave up on it entirely. A pity, I know, but it was torturous to watch at some times. that's my honest feedback. (Edit: I have no complains about the ships used, nor the players sailing them, only the section that stood between the actual game and what was shown on stream) (Edit 2: But hey, it could still be worse, it could be World of Warplanes) -
That made me realise this... We're going to the centennial anniversary of the Battle of Jutland (1916), the largest naval battle in WW1 and the last true "battleship versus battleship" action in history of mankind with these representatives: HMS Warspite HMS Caroline (speculation, all that is known is that "WG is working with the Caroline trust") SMS Karlsruhe (and that's the closest we'll get, in fact it were two Köningsberg-class cruisers, the SMS Stettin & Stuttgart) Meanwhile we have a ship (Kirov) to commemorate a shore bombardment during the Siege of Leningrad... Oh Wargaming, you so silly

It's my thought that we'll see on Tier III the "Bellerophon"-class, with the HMS Dreadnought as a Tier III Premium. Dreadnought ticks every box when it comes to Premium Material (unique design, name & fame, slightly weaker than it's elited techtree equivalent) Dreadnought: 18120T, 21.0kts, 160mx25mx9m, 5x2 12" guns Mk.X / 27x 12pdr, 5"-10" belt armour, 0.75"-3" deck armour. Bellerophon: 18800T, 21.5kts, 160x25x8.3m, 5x2 12" guns Mk.X / 16x 4" guns, 4x 3" guns, 4"-11" belt armour, 0.5"-4" deck armour.

In the 2016-roadplan video, it was said that were scheduled. That means the German Battleships, the Russian Cruisers, and two "mystery additions". I think it's doubtful that they'll invent a Russian Battleship- or Carrier branch in time, the same applies for the German Carrier branch. German Destroyers are plausible. That leaves us with one branch not accounted for, and with word that the Royal Navy would be the next new country to be added, it's not that far-fetched to guesstimate that that fourth branch would be the Royal Navy Cruisers. There is also the stub of the Pan-Asian collection, but I doubt we'll see some Thai or Chinese Coastal Defense vessels, or obsolete Cruisers. And the Australian Navy sailed with British-designed material. So it would make sense to design the British material first.
-
Who am I? I'm just a nobody from Belgium (a country invented so the UK, France, Holland & Germany would have a playground to settle their differences ), and WG works in many mysterious ways which make it very hard, or nearly impossible to gauge them. I expect the RN to come in 2016, albeit it would be very late (maybe December). In the screenshots of some video's, you could see they're working on the models of them, so progress is being made. But this "pushing back" by the RN is fueling the fire of the rumours that are surrounding the RN, that WG/Lesta underestimated the sheer volume of ships to chose from (there are many classes of Cruisers, and some classes even have distinct subclasses, and each of those subclasses have unique refits), maybe combined with the rumours that the British Musea (and Admiralty?) are more reluctant to cooperate with WG than they expected. And in those musea are the plans for those ships.
-
In January, it was said the RN (as in Royal Navy) were the first nation to be added in 2016... You can expect the surprise on many faces when we were presented with a trailer for that other RN (the Russian Navy) in March. However, they (WG) covered themselves in, saying: "When it comes to a new national tech-tree being added, the British/Royal Navy is currently planned next. It's not decided yet it if will come with multiple branches. That doesn't mean however that existing tech trees may have additional branches added first.". Which means it's entirely possible to see Russian Carriers before the first Royal Navy techtree ships... let alone Italian or French Navy.
-
It's time for the " of broken Royal Navy Promises"... Ah well, new content is new content, and I'm looking forward to what the German BB's will bring.
-
And the renfies come in the form of a Texan... I guess we're about to be pistol-whipped back into submission

Russian Cruiser Event - How are you faring?

I already bought the Novik, that's as far as I got. -
The Imperial German naval flag, does it have a place in WoWS?
MrFingers replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
So did I, and I'm glad I did. It's just annoying that it breaks with every update because WG tampers with the flagfile in every update for no apparent reason other than to annoy modders & users.- 288 replies

Boy oh boy, does this ship get uptiered a lot. I had 1 (one!) battle as top-tier, all the rest were Tier VIII battles.
-
For me, it's still 25,09€ (which is what I paid for it this Friday), so I think it's something with an exchange rate between £ and €.

Mid-tier cruisers, especially where the branch switched from armoured to light, or from light to heavy. The branch stays the same, the gameplay doesn't.

RU EU/NA. Quite peculiar if you ask me. Bug or intended? For an event that runs 10 days, it can make quite a difference.
