  2. On May 31st/June 1st 2016, it's exactly 100 years ago that the infamous Battle of Jutland took place, the biggest naval battle that took place in the history of mankind (in terms of tonnage, Leyte was bigger in number of ships). The battle ended in a draw, with a slight tactical victory for the British, but at a grave cost. All and everyone who was involved in that battle is now long gone, except for one thing. In Belfast lays the HMS Caroline, a C-class Light Cruiser (Caroline subclass). Nothing extraordinary at first sight, but she is the holder of some peculiar records at the time of her decommissioning. 2nd oldest ship in Royal Navy Service (1914-2011) The last First World War British light cruiser in service. The last still existing survivor of the Battle of Jutland. Yes, she was there. And she's still afloat in Belfast, and in quite a good condition. However she was rebuilt as a HQ and training facility in 1924, during which her armament and boilers were removed, and later on a steel shack was built onto her decks. To commemorate the Battle of Jutland, she's now undergoing restoration to bring her back to her appearance of 1916, the dawn of the battle, and to open her in the spring of 2016 as a visitors centre and as a monument to the Battle of Jutland, and all those involved. I already suggested MrConway that this ship in her 1916 configuration would be a good RN lowtier (read: affordable) Premium Ship, which could be made available for the commemoration of Jutland in 6 months, and it would be a very nice prelude to the coming of the Royal Navy in the latter quarter of 2016. Knowing that it takes some time to get the OK-GO, research the plans and actually designing the ship, maybe it's a good idea to create some awareness (hype?) around this ship, and show WarGaming that sufficient interest is present for such a ship and this occasion. It's not every day that one of the major battles in the history of mankind celebrates its centennial anniversary, nor that one of the very ships that took part in it is still around to be seen. 28.5kts 1"-3" belt armour, 1" deck armour 2x 6"guns (aft) 8x 4"guns (semi-automatic, 2 in tandem in the front, three on each beam) 1x 6pdr 4x 21" Mk1 torpedo's (two on each side, in tandem)
  3. we're not having that discussion again: if you have to complete missions for it and spend time trying to jump through hoops, how "free" is it then? "If a product appears to be free to you, maybe you are the real product".
  4. Free ship+slot vs some flags... doesn't quite scale, does it?
  5. Been here since CBT, 3000 Randoms No Premium: I never buy premium, I play too irregularly to make use out of it. 4270 Doubloons (for eternity, since in 0.7.1. the KKK took my baby away WG took the techtree premiums away) 200M credits: which keep piling up since I deal enough damage and play T7 enough to always make a profit, even on standard. 400k FXP:but I already bought Nelson with 375k. No interest in Missouri nor Krohnstadt. So I don't actively grind for it 16k coal: Bought Musashi & Yubari with it. Wasn't in a clan, so had to start from scratch. Now not actively grinding, picking TYL-containers just for the sake of it 87 steel: converted into coal a while back, I don't do Clanwars nor high-enough Ranked since "Fork T10, seriously"

Vanguard and Dreadnought are in the shop...

What? You can't play the game daily for 4 months in a row without a break, and without grinding 40k Commander XP and 1M credits each Wednesday in order to progress? You filthy casual!!!! /s
  7. Quite obvious I think... WG will try their utmost best to lure in new players with free ships (Diana, Texas, Ishizushi,...), re-kindle the enthusiasm of those who already quit with even more free ships (Prinz Eugen, Guilio Cesare, Ishizushi,...). Those who are already "on the hook" don't need attention or catering, and can (and have to) use the good old CreditCard Mk.I to get additional content... Or grind their backsides off in long-duration short-sequential marathons with sometimes absurd requirements (11 British Torpedo hits back before the DD's were a thing anyone? Or 20 T8+ Russian ship frags?)

Vanguard and Dreadnought are in the shop...

    It's juanx, just ignore him.
  9. Still waiting on an "obscene amount of credits"-ship.

40 of the "daily missions" (which means at least 20 days), in full Chistmas season? Yeah, it seems they're going full WoT in terms of mission design now: only for the people without social life/obligations. T7 is already crammed with Hood, Nelson & Duke of York.

What is your most frustrating "Premium" ship?

The Nelson I find fun. Requires a delicate balance between "extending" and "overextended", but once you manage the intricate art of angling and damage mitigation, it's an absolute blast/beast. With honours from the judges: the most frustrating boat around: Hood (was a gift, so can't complain): give it better behaving guns and it'd be perfect Notable mentions: Aigle: reward for a marathon, so can't complain Indianapolis: reward for a marathon, so can't complain Marblehead: won via a Lootboy code, so can't complain Shinonome: probably spoiled by the Kamikaze R, still haven't wrapped my head around it. But it involved no monetary transaction, so can't complain Belfast: "SOOO MANY BUTTONS TO PUSH", it boils down to operator error. Got her back after selling her in 0.6.12, might now take the time to invest in a specialised captain & decent consumable loadout. I can't really complain about my "premium fleet", but then again, I don't do impulse purchases, only waiting for doubloon discounts and only after watching multiple reviews.
  12. A permanent camouflage that looks historically plausible and not drawn up by a toddler that was given too much energy-drink and only flashy crayons. I like!

30% coupon CAN be used for Jean Bart!

Remember, unless there is something you REALLY want: you won’t have saved 30%, you’ll have spent 70%.

"Anniversary of the First Battle" gifts

That's a nice gesture, very much appreciated! (and very nice camo as well, understated & sober, how I like it)

1st Anniversary? Thanks , but not really...

I'm here since CBT, but I only got my "1 year" gift, not for the other years.
  17. Look up doubloon price here, multiply by 1500

    So, no daily shipment today?

Since we're already asking somewhat non-related questions: any progress on the harmonisation of "account/ship restoration"? Where on the NA you can restore 20 ships per year without time-penalty, and on the EU 1 ship per account within 2 months.
  21. Just the same as "is there a future for (useful) doubloon use". I think we both know the answer to that.

Jean Bart – a Tier 9 in the Premium Shop?

It can be stored next to all your doubloons, waiting on better times!

The First Battle of Narvik - Discussion Thread

Honestly, stuff like this is nowadays the sole reason to visit the portal (ever since they backtracked their "full month reveal" for the calendar). This is interesting and well written, with nice illustrations.
  25. You might want to rephrase that to "less low than usual". Also I'm beginning to suspect the containers that are opened on stream by popular streamers might get a modified RNG that increases their likelyhood to drop "the good stuff".
