World of Warships - Glossary of Terms

And a bit more: Murphy's Laws of Naval Combat in WoWS: - If you deploy a smokescreen, everyone ever will see you precisely as if you have a neon sign strapped to the hull. If the enemy destroyer deploys a smokescreen, they will cloak up completely and be invisible even when scraping against your hull. - Cruisers are always a bigger threat and seem to do more damage to your battleship than you are doing to them. Unless you're driving one. In which case, the mechanics are working as intended. - There are always torpedoes in the water. Always. If there aren't, you're on the wrong side of the battle. - Any ship will ultimately be caught in torpedo crossfire from the enemy and their own team. - Just when you have that last devastating broadside on the enemy carrier, you will lose by capping. - Just when you're about to win by capping, you will lose by capping. - If you cap, you're a noob. If you don't, you're a base camper. - There's always a more powerful enemy ship heading the way you are. - Extreme range initial salvos will miss. Enemy salvos will hit you dead-on. - Your battleship main guns will always reload half a second after you've sunk. - Whenever you think you need only one more barrage to sink your enemy, you don't. You need two. Penetration mechanics don't like you! And ultimately: - It's always a "damned if you do and damned if you don't" rule. You're already a noob, you just don't know it yet.

World of Warships - Glossary of Terms

Hello everyone, Given the date, I believe it's time to put a few chuckles on our faces. Therefore, I've decided to put together a little list of names and references that strives to sum up how each player/ship is seen within the game by the 'friendly' community. These terms are collected and/or invented as they've been encountered, so feel free to add your own to make the list bigger. Note: List contains hefty doses of sarcasm. So, without further ado: Ship Classes - Destroyers / Cheating Noobs A class that absolutely anyone ever can play. They have torpedoes and are always invisible. Anyone can do that if they have this little cheat. Of course you don't need any skill, tactical thinking or planning to do this. I've tried it in my Tier 3 destroyer! It always works! - Cruisers: Regular Noobs Always charge ahead. If you're not charging, you're a camping noob. If you're charging too hard, you're a stupid noob. Stop turning the ship, will you? Just go forward, fight and die! Oh, you died? What a noob... - Battleships: Whining Noobs Waaaah! Torpedoes hit me! They're OP. Nerf them! Waah! Carriers are OP. Nerf them! In fact, just take them out of the game. Take the enemy battleships out too! Just leave only battleships on my team and light cruisers on the enemy's. That's fair! - Carriers: Overpowered Noobs I don't care if they have to manage a hundred things at once, and it takes patience. They're overpowered! Take them out of the game! Replace them with War Dinghies! Player Types - The Admiral "BBs on port side! Set azimuth two-eight-zero! Man the barbettes!" May or may not have any previous knowledge of combat vessels. If they didn't, they do now! And they'll flaunt it! Everyone that doesn't understand their jargon is an ignorant noob! Don't even dare try and call them "skipper" or you won't hear the end of it! - The Too-Later Starts yelling at their team to protect cap when it's already started. Yells that a flank has been lost way after the enemy is in this half of the map. Tells players who or what's shooting at them... after they've been shot. Always complains that their friendly advice isn't taken into consideration. - The Ghost of Nelson (© Jingles) In life, they were nothing but a suiciding cruiser, thinking they're a great match for that battleship one tier higher. In death, however, all their tactical potential is unleashed and they know the one true way to win the game. They will give out individual advice, post-mortem, to each ship. Disobedience means an earful of insults, so be wary! - The World of Tanks Player Noob team! OMG noobs. U suck. Uninstall game! Reported! [edited]noobs! *May or may not attempt to drive their ship like a tank, avoiding broadsides and prefering to attack while facing you. If that won't work, ramming is always a solution! - The Foreigner Cohort Two players, searching for love, share a "Siema PL" in a game... and it's love at first sight. They will chat their life away in their native tongue, their stories, their impression - all instead of playing the game. World of Warships becomes their own personal eHarmony, others be damned! Because nothing makes teamwork better than impressions over 50 Shades of Grey... in bulgarian. And to end my post, a little quote of my own: A good player will tell his team what he intends to do, at the start of the match. A bad player tell his team what they SHOULD HAVE done, at the end.

    Remove the cap system...

That I did. I would though recommend you change the title (if possible) from "Remove the cap system" to "Tweak the cap system". More than a few posters misunderstand the point instead of giving an alternative. I think it's no longer a discussion of "should we have it in or not ?", but rather "how can it be made better for game length and pace?".

    Remove the cap system...

Karrade - the point Panzerschreck is trying to make is that having a cap within THIS particular game is troublesome right now. WoWS is not like Battlefield or Call of Duty or even World of Tanks in regards to the role of a capture point! The pacing is very different and a quick cap simply cuts the game in half. Imagine being in the middle of a battle in one of your other games, then it suddenly cuts out. Like a referee blew a whistle. We can't exactly weigh your opinion since you don't know the specifics yet. Really, a generalized impression doesn't really apply to this exception! To all others (yes, replies keep popping in as we type ^_^): I will agree that we NEED a capping system. But a very very tweaked capping system. One that allows for the slow paced game to unfold properly, and not cut it halfway.

    Remove the cap system...

I will admit, there have been a number of games in which I cursed the cap system to its core. Matches end far too quickly with the capping mechanic, oftentimes with an unsatisfying conclusion to a tense battle. I will understand the NEED for a system to make smaller ships feasible - as if they weren't already, or to end games which might be reduced to a carrier chase. The issue is, as most of the people here have agreed, it tends to end the game far quicker than that! So my advice would be the same as many others here - extend cap times. Keep in mind that we're driving slow warships now, not tanks, and allow that margin of error! Let us duke it out a little longer without "rules lawyers" ending the party too early!
  7. Props indeed to you too, mate! To readers of this topic, it's well worth noting that even a bit of coordination can make even bad matches fun. So stop blaming the team, start talking to them instead! This isn't WoT, you have more than enough time to give a message out! Work together and post some awesome stories of how you kicked [edited]and sent the enemies to Davey Jones!
