[suggestion] Option for national radio voices based on ship
AndyHill posted a topic in General Discussion
The national voices are kind of nice, although some of the recordings sound a bit odd (maybe they could use a little bit less cathedral echo and more talking-tube / radio static or smth). I would, however, like an option where the radio messages' language depends on the sending ship's nationality instead of everyone sounding like they were the same nationality as my ship. For example when someone is asking for help it is vital to immediately know if the teammate in peril is a cute anime princess or some German, Russian or Anglo-American dude with a beard. Also especially since chat messages don't come with ship tags it might even slightly help you figure out who is saying what. -
[suggestion] Option for national radio voices based on ship
AndyHill replied to AndyHill's topic in General Discussion
How could anyone not take anime princesses seriously? Anyway, I was wondering if this is something that can be changed in a mod for example? The biggest work (recording the sounds) is already there so in theory it should be pretty simple, but does the game offer an API that tells you which ship is transmitting so that a mod could figure out which sound to use? -
I think I have retrained the captains I need to and in the end I ended up 6 doubloons in the red. Completely devastated now, of course.

I'm assuming you took advantage of this deal: http://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/common/play-together/ since you got the Diana. If you didn't I suggest getting an invite link ASAP as you might still be eligible and that's a pretty awesome deal. I don't find WoWS especially grindy, there are some ships I'd like to just skip, but most are fine on their own. Isokaze (tier4) and Minekaze (tier5) for example are perfectly fine ships in their own right if you are into destroyers. Then there's the St. Louis at tier 3 and many others. Before buying premium ships you should have enough skills for their level, but even more importantly you need to play enough to know what kind of ships you actually like.
-
Sounds like a pretty good solution.

As explained a few times before; when you get to pick skills with 18 points instead of SA + 17 points you don't just pick an extra one point skill. The whole economy of the skill system changes and chances are you would make a very different build now compared to what you did before. Unfortunately for many it's too late, the points are spent elsewhere and they are stuck with a build that was made according to now obsolete rules. That is the problem many of us have with any of the proposed solutions.
-
Well at least you wouldn't get a stupid skill for DD captains, but doesn't help at all if you'd like to distribute the skill points differently now that there's one more to go around. My suggestion is to simply reset all captains or at least the ones that have SA.
-
It's not one skill reset as it's a number of captains. It's not an enormous amount in actual currency, but compared to my regular spending in WoWS it would be quite a lot, eating up most of my remaining doubloons. The principle is also important here, because we're talking about a really simple and clear issue. Changes to character development necessitate resets, doing anything else would be a seriously [edited]move and bad PR, because forcing people to pay to change their builds for money looks and smells like a really obvious cash grab. Also I can't really see the skill point removed from SA as much of a gift since I fully expect to one day get 18 points on all the affected captains (many of the new captains and ones for less played ships aren't usually affected, since they have so few points) and the amount of work to reach that remains the same.
-
Here's an actual solution: Since so many people are terribly bothered about reshuffling skills on their captains and make horrible mistakes when having to choose skills (like I did when I thought I had to take SA and made my builds accordingly) let's not bother everybody. Just add me and everyone else who wants to be added to a list of voluntary captain resets and reset all of our affected captains.
-
So now that I don't have to spend a point on SA (yippee!), how do I get Manual secondaries or Jack of All Trades on my Yama / Iowa?
-
I'm a bit puzzled when you talk about 20th skill, as far as I know that's utterly impossible and the 19th skill isn't very realistic either, IIRC it's actually 9,999,999 exp. Thus no matter how much I play I will never gain enough points to get Manual Secondaries / Jack for the Iowa or Yama. If it was possible to go beyond 18 points I would actually understand your point and there wouldn't be much of a problem with WG's approach. I hope you don't mind me asking but did you actually know that 18 points is the maximum attainable skill points even for the most hardcore players? Because that's precisely the problem here, without a reset it's not even theoretically possible for me to get the 5 points skills on those captains. Then as you mentioned I would need to shuffle the skills to get JoAT or MS and of course I agree with you there, because that's exactly the point. That is precisely why I want the reset. When I made my choices I decided that SA is a must skill and picked the rest accordingly. Now things have changed and if I would get to choose skills with the new rules in place I would pick differently. There's a good reason why character development based games (including WoWS earlier) give free resets when there are changes in skill trees. I'm not saying the free SA wouldn't help move faster towards other skills, in fact it allows me to move further along the skill tree - which is an even bigger bonus. Or rather would if I hadn't screwed myself earlier, not knowing about the upcoming change. Unfortunately my road is now blocked because of my earlier choices and I can't properly utilize the new rules because of choices I made earlier (before I knew SA would become free).

Here is my Kagero captain, he has 17 points and approaching 18. The exp needed for next level is 369k unless I'm horribly mistaken.
-
I'm sorry I screwed up and you spent time on that example (thank you for doing so, I appreciate the discussion). I totally forgot to mention that superintendent is mandatory in my builds so it would be better to discuss the Iowa or the Yamato captains. Sorry that was entirely my bad. As for the skill choices they are kind of irrelevant in a way. I would never take incoming fire alert and to me Vigilance is not worth it, in a BB you either dodge the torps long before you spot them or you don't (well it is a Warspite captain, though, so there might be some use for that skill). However, the point is my ability to pick the skills I happen to want, whether or not they are actually the best choices. Sorry again for screwing up, but I would be interested in your view regarding the same JoAT/MS issue with Iowa or Yamato. Your math is correct as far as I can tell (except that you've got it a bit mixed up, AFAIK 18th skill is 369k, not 17th), in that way getting SA for free does speed up my grind towards other skills. This below part I don't quite understand, however. Of course I will have that many skill points available one day if I just play enough. Especially if and when I take that captain for a spin in the British BB tree he will inevitably hit 18 points sooner rather than later.
-
To demonstrate the problem check out my Warspite captain (example number 1). Given the choice of SA + 17 skill points on other stuff I picked what I picked. Now that the choice is 18 skill points on other stuff I would probably want to go either Manual Secondaries or Jack of All Trades on it. How do I do that? Sorry I wasn't quite clear in this example; my builds also need to include Superintendent. The Iowa and Yamato captains are actually better examples because of this so please rather use those.
-
To progress the conversation, let's take a look at for example my case number one. Now that we don't need to take SA, I would like to build my captain for either Manual Secondaries or Jack of All Trades. How do I do that now? Edit: Sorry I forgot to mention my builds need to come with Superintendent. Thus please rather use Iowa or Yamato captains for this thought experiment.

Information about the free skill (SA) is about two weeks old. Again, there is no free skill point. None. At all. Skill point exp requirements have not changed in the slightest and there has been no extra exp and thus no extra skill points given. The entire economy of the skill tree has changed, however, now that I don't have to take the SA skill. Now that I don't need to spend a point on that I would in many cases pick skills differently from what I did when I made the choices based on the information I had back then. Thus it would only be fair to be given the opportunity to pick the skills again based on the new information we now have.

11) Yamato 1/16. This guy is kind of screwed, funny secondaries build and the annoying JoAT build I would have liked to try given the "extra point" are no longer available to him. 12) Ibuki (Zao) 0/15. No stealth build for this Zao captain, because earlier I selected to go for a less specialized route due to not having that one crucial point available. 13) Hiryu (Hakuryu) 3/14. This guy is not at all screwed, due to already having his desired skill at lv1 and only one skill per level (want that lv5 squadron skill asap) he is not affected at all. 14) Roon (Hindenburg) 0/15. This guy has picked several 1-point skills, which affects his remaining choices. There is no obvious 5-pointer I would've picked, however, so perhaps he is not that badly screwed. A few guys and mostly girls were omitted from the list.
-
6) St. Louis 0/7 points. This guy is a filthy seal clubber, so we don't even care about the fact that he is not screwed at all since he has few skill selected and one of them already is Basics of Survivability. 7) Tashkent (Khabarovsk) 1/14 points. This guy is not necessarily very screwed, of course the one extra point might have affected his skill choices, but I'm not sure if I would've done anything different. 8) Budyonny (Moskva) 2/10 points. This guy might be screwed since he has several 1-pointers already, but due to his low number of points thing are still kind of open. 9) Kagero (Shimakaze) 0/17. This guy is not actually very screwed, he would still have to choose between BoS and EL anyway. However, a Vigilance build would be screwed. 10) Myoko/Kongo/? 0/16. This girl is a bit screwed, since due to having picked a lot of skills already, 5th level skills are no longer accessible. However, she still has some reasonable choices available.
-
Ok, I will make a post demonstrating the effects of the decision to switch skills instead of giving a full reset. To make it decidedly non-hypothetical, I will be using my actual captains for this. 1) Warspite 1/13. This guy is screwed. Thanks to already having two one point skills + SA he can never become a Jack of All Trades or epic Secondaries build. 2) Iowa (Montana) 1/16. Same as before, due to existing selections JoAT and other 5-point skills unreachable. 3) Lexington (Midway) 4/15. This guy is not screwed at all. He has on skill point per tier in addition to the SA and its removal will in no way affect his life choices. 4) Fletcher (Gearing) 0/15: This guy is only very slightly screwed. True enough, basics of survivability is not MUCH better than Expert Loader, but after taking the torpedo loading skill he would have to take one of those anyway even if he now got the secondary armament skill he really wants. However, if he was a Vigilance build, he would be screwed. 5) Baltimore (Des Moines) 3/15. This guy is not THAT screwed even though his choices are a bit more limited now, in addition to extra heal at lv3 he has useful 4-pointers available to him.

It is the 19th point that takes 10 million exp. Wargaming does not give us any extra points. The number of points will not change in any way after the patch nor will the 18 point limit be raised.
-
Except that you don't get any free points, 18 is still the maximum and you will only have as many points as you have earned yourself before the patch. It's just misplaced in a spot where it's nowhere near as useful as it could and should be.
-
If that really was a problem, making a "would you like to" -option wouldn't be a heroic feat of programming.
-
I understand you feel you don't want to give up free captain resets for removing one skill, since resets are a way of making money for you. I can understand that even if I don't especially like it. However, the above method is extremely inadequate and the explanation about mistakes and tediousness being reasons for not giving the reset are so out of this world incomprehensible that the message as a whole becomes borderline insulting towards your customers.

Also since we're now getting Situational Awareness as default for all ships, how about a radio call F-key for "I'm spotted"?
