    battleship secondaries rebalance sugggestion

Well, let's take this apart one by one, shall we? - No, DDs are far from "apex predators". They're opportunistic glass cannons that die embarassingly fast at the slightest mistake. - Cruisers are certainly not "hunting" BBs. Quite the opposite, battleships eat cruisers for breakfast with their vast superiority in firepower and toughness. The only ways in which a cruiser has any hope in hell to even try throwing down with a BB is either point-blank suicide torpedo attacks or skirmishing at the edge of its range band and hoping and praying that the BB driver can't aim. - Overpen will not save a DD that gets hits in the hull by battleship AP shells from losing most to all of his hitpoints from one salvo in most cases. - DDs cannot close in on you while dropping smoke. They drop it *behind* them, so unless they're moving away from you, they will constantly pop back into vision and even a fraction of a second of being visible is enough for secondaries to fire. - At 2km, a DD is lucky indeed to survive two salvoes from the secondaries of a Kongo or Fuso or *one* from a Nagato . (Then again, he's never going to get into 2km of a Nagato unless you've driven her around an island corner or straight into a smoke screen like a big, happy target.) That is, unless he's outside the engagement angle of most of the guns. IE, in front or behind you, which puts you into the best possible situation to dodge the torps, then lazily curve around and chew him to pieces as he tries frantically to leave secondary range. - If you're trying to shoot at a DD from 15km away, that's your problem for having bad targetting priorities. If you're missing a full salvo from 7-8 or closer, it's your problem for being a bad shot. And it ain't like he can actually do anything of real impact to you untill he's at 5km or closer. In closing, please learn to use your shift key. Please learn about punctuation. Please learn about how to use the enter key to not present a gigantic nigh-unreadable wall of text. Pease stop it with the dumb personal attacks. And please come back after playing a few hundred matches against humans instead of trying to brag with your great amount of experience playing against bots.

    Ramming larger vessels

You take his health *pool* in damage and vice-versa, not his current health. Of course, that damage is also capped to his current health - overkill doesn't count and is not displayed on the scoreboard after the match. A hull-upgraded Pensacola will do 34300 damage upon ramming you - his max health. Mogami with the hull upgrade has 38400 hitpoints and will hence barely survive that experience if she's at full.
  4. Yeah, the Isokaze and Minekaze could use a nerf of their torpedo reload, just like how the T6+ DDs could use a buff. Giving the DDs from Isokaze to Hatsuharu about a minute reload would be a good compromise imo, with the Fubuki and Kagero having perhaps 15-20 extra seconds and the Shimakaze being somewhere around 1:45-2:00 for her 15 tubes. Also, 36 second gun rotation times need to die. Make them 20 seconds or faster. Not like it will suddenly allow IJN DDs to tear up things like the Americans with their 2-3 times as high rate of fire.

    British BBs terrible range?

It's been pretty well established by research in the last few years that it was a hit scored by Yamato. For a reference, try Robert Lundgren's The World Wonder'd: What Really Happened Off Samar.

    British BBs terrible range?

If you get "raped" from 20km away, it's solely on you. 20km shots are a lottery even against non-evading targets and a complete waste of time against anyone versed in the dark magic of using his rudder regularily. The 16km range on the Warspite is ironically about the same range at which you can actually start to expect landing solid hits on another BB without having to hope for good luck and an unresponsive target. Actually, the longest-range hit recorded would be Yamato hitting USS White Plains at Leyte. And much like Warspite's famous hits, it's a statistically irrelevant outlier that shows nothing useful about the normal performance of the ship. On a sidenote, I would not expect much of anyone else's BB line to match the range of the IJN line. With the range model being based on effective visual rangefinding, the pagodas are going to range supreme in this specific niche.

    Nagato- Useless.

How did it take you three minutes to realise that the tomatoes ran? That's some serious situational awareness fail.

    Balance issues

High-tier DDs definitely need their torp reload buffed. IJN DDs at the higher tiers also could do with their guns being buffed into being at least somewhat useful - not as good as US DD guns, but at least make them worth using at all instead of saddling them with cruiser-levels of rate of fire and near-BB levels of turret rotation.

    Nagato- Useless.

Go brawling. Seriously. You have a ton of armor, big 16in guns, the most responsive rudder of the entire BB line and a secondary battery only rivalled by the Yamato. Roll in there and rip people up from short range. Hanging out at 15km+ is simply not what a Nagato is meant to do. Girl wants to get stuck in and will reward you if you get her stuck in and learn how to brawl in a BB.

    battleship secondaries rebalance sugggestion

Ahahaha, what? I'd say you need to start playing some DDs. Because let me tell you about secondaries. Secondaries are goddamn harsh even on ships like the Kongo and Fuso, where you will lose half your health or more to get into point-blank range on an open run. And they're downright terrifying on later BBs - a Nagato, even moreso with upgraded secondaries is already flat-out suicide to charge at. You torp it from long range or from ambushes or the secondaries will chew you into pieces. I've been running the Nagato with upgrades and done tens of thousands of damage with the secondaries in some games. They chew up cruisers scarily fast, let alone what hapens to poor little tincans that pop up anywhere near you. That you actually seriously just claimed this makes literally everything you try to argue invalid and disqualifies you totally from making any argument pertaining the game. Try to get some actual experience before shooting off your mouth next time.

    Warspite Appreciation Thread

Well, from the other side of the fence, let me say that she's a major PITA for me when driving DDs. That turning circle is crazy and while the secondaries seem to lack some punch against cruisers or other BBs, they're plenty painful enough for little me and have the same range as those on Nagato and Yamato. Damn hard to pull off a good close torp run against that combination unless you manage an ambush involving islands and/or smoke.

    Player Activated Horn or Siren

Make it so the other team can hear it, too. I wanna announce it when I'm about to run over some poor little DD whose torp run got too close to the front of me Kongo.

Aren't battleships kinda underpowered right now?

A lot of damage? DDs need dozens upon dozens of hits to do any worthwhile damage to a BB with their guns. There is gonna be armor changes with the next patch.
  15. Magni56

    HMS Warspite

Treating singular outliers as a trend in this regard is in and off itself dishonest. Though if you really do wanna go with singular outliers, the White Plains might wanna have a word with you about the Yamato supposedly not being able to score hits inside that "lost" range.

Aren't battleships kinda underpowered right now?

Smoke does nothing for a DD that's moving towards you. He'll outpace the screen and be visible for most of the time, so the secondaries will light him up anyway. It's a tool for the DD to ambush you or cover his [edited]while he's running away, but not one that helps him get close in the first place. And if all the DDs and CVs on the map are gunning for you at the same time, how is that any different from getting focus-fired into dust by every cruiser and BB on the enemy team simultaneously? Teamwork sure seems to be OP.
  17. Magni56

Aren't battleships kinda underpowered right now?

DDs and light cruisers have next to no chance to actually citadel even comparatively thin-skinned BBs and even CAs with 8-inch guns only do it very infrequently. Worse, at the short ranges they can do that, they've got next to no chance to dodge what the BB is throwing back and that's gonna hurt a lot more. This gets even more problematic once the secondary batteries come into play - which they will against any DD that wants to get close enough to ensure his torps aren't dodged.
  18. Magni56

Aren't battleships kinda underpowered right now?

[citation needed] Also, why concentrate on kills as the final arbiter? Because quite often, it's the BB that does the big damage with the cruisers and DDs just cleaning up the already near-dead victim. Kill numbers don't accurately reflect impact on the field when you are talking about a class built around big alpha damage and slow reloads.
  19. Magni56

    ...and draw again

Then don't drive your slow battleship out to the far flank where you cannot do anything that actually helps your team win. Also, learn to anticipate and dodge torpedos. There is no reason to fear non-suicidal torpedo runs in the Nagato.
  20. Mogami works with both guns. The 6-inchers are great for murdering DDs and cruisers from more up close. The 8-inchers are great for mid-long range engagements due to their higher velocity, flat trajectory, good penetration and high accuracy. Their AP shells also do more to battleships than merely annoy them. Also, they turn a lot faster if your captain doesn't have AIming Expertise trained.
  21. Magni56

    US DD Commander Skills

Both. Then go for Pyromania and Concealment Expertise. Also, I'd probably pick Torpedo Expertise over Aiming Expertise - ain't like US DDs need even faster turrets.

Aren't battleships kinda underpowered right now?

"Just a little closer and I'll launch. Just a little closer. Just a li- *boom* - My average attempt at torping a Nagato with a USN DD. I've by now given up on it and will only try if I can catch her around an island. Ain't nothing in this game right now that's as scary as a Nagato looking to get close and personal.

Aren't battleships kinda underpowered right now?

So if you are caught out in the open completely alone by a competent CV player, you might actually take some damage? Wow. Shocking that. Makes the entire class clearly unplayable. It is absolutely unbalanced and broken that a good player might be able to actually damage you - that kind of thing should only happen to the CA and DD plebs. And "half your health"? Unless you went completely boneheaded and ate most to all the torps from both squadrons, you won't even lose remotely that much. So what if some of your guns are out of action for a couple seconds? You think this doesn't happen to every other ship, too? Especially later cruisers have quite lenghty turret rotation times, too. As have IJN DDs. Pre-plan those turns and pre-plan how to get your guns back on target quick. It's not like you don't have plenty time to take stock of the situation and plan ahead a bit while your guns are reloading. Or you could of course just stay in sniper mode permanently and tunnel-vision on your target, then whine about how BBs are underpowered when someone in the meantime sneaks up and slams some torps into you. The "dont's" BBs have are mostly exactly the same that every other class has to obey just as much. Going around a tight corner or into a smoke cloud while there's a DD nearby means risking to get torped no matter what you're driving and while a DD or cruiser might have a bit more leeway at dodging, it will also be hurt much more comparatively if it does get hit. Between their armor, recovery ability and massive hp pool, BBs have the highest defense factor of any ship in the game. They forgive mistakes that will get any other ship killed right then and there. If at all, they are currently both the undisputably strongest of all the ship classes when played right and the easiest to at least do decently in.

Aren't battleships kinda underpowered right now?

Torpedo Evasion - 6 Simple Rules for Dummies: 1. Situational awareness. It's OP. Have an eye on the minimap on DDs and TB squadrons near you. 2. If a TB squadron or DD looks like it will try a torpedo run on you, turn towards it. 3. Don't drive into smoke unless you know the DD inside is on his cooldown (because you've just seen the torps coming from the cloud). 4. Do not go around island corners in an easily predictable fashion. In fact, don't ever go around a close corner if you think there might a DD nearby. Search planes can help with this. 5. Change your heading and speed frequently. This will also throw off people shooting at you with their guns btw. 6. If you see torps heading at you, turn towards them. PS: Even without your primaries, you're hardly "defenseless" against DDs that want to get into point-blank torpedo range. Good angling on the secondaries makes them chew up destroyers something fierce - to the point where a real point-blank torp run is very much a do-or-die moment for the DD as he'll be torn to shreds by the secondaries before he can escape if he doesn't kill you. BBs have if at all the lowest skill floor in the game. The health pool alone means they are forgiving of all but the utterly most boneheaded mistakes imaginable - quite unlike cruisers and especially destroyers, which both come apart under fire shockingly fast by comparison.
  25. Magni56

Aren't battleships kinda underpowered right now?

Nope. CA guns can score hits on BBs from beyond the range at which BB primaries truly hit their stride. Spending five minutes trading shots with a CA at 15km will hurt you more than spending one to close the distance followed by savaging him with effective short-range fire. Learn to aim lower. Sending AP through your targets superstructure isn't how you are supposed to use the shell type. Also, learn to get in closer. Yes, battleships that spend the round 15+ km away from all enemies are in fact very underpowered. This is not a problem of the class, this is a problem that exists between keyboard and chair. Armor. Agility. Secondary battery. Turret placement. Penetration on the primaries. Nagato sure is a downgrade is you spend your matches doing nothing but long-range shooting. She's however one hell of a monster once you learn to take her brawling. She plows through cruisers like they're tissue paper once you're at 10km and closing, destroyers absolutely hate life in her secondary range (which for extra comedy can be pushed out to 7km with Advanced Firing Training and the Secondary Battery Mod 2), she just flat-out outguns and outlasts Kongos and she runs rings around Fusos and Amagis. Here's what taking that girl brawling gets you:
