Tier 10 is boring - thoughts on why

Nice try. The topic here is about comparing the worst, deep red 40% players to slightly less worse 46% players. These deep red 40%ers dont kill 3 players and cap a base, they instead die in a ball of fire after 2 minutes as they sail guns blazing into cap wide open to incoming fire. These are a lot worse to have in your team than a backline sniper. What you are showcasing here is a good player, and the more consistently he can achieve plays like what you describe, the likelier it is that what you're describing is in fact actually a unicum. Nobody here is contesting that we wouldnt want to have a unicum on our team that manages to grab a cap and kill 3 players before dying. What we dont want is a 40% player that dies 2 minutes into the game, effectively making the game an 11 vs 12.

Getting better is not about "magically" being immune to HE, its both about knowing how to pick the right opportunity where HE spam doesnt matter (the payoff is worth it), as well as taking positions where HE spam has a hard time reaching you. These things take a lot of experience to start getting right.

Just how much worse is a backline sniper compared to someone who is dead? Please, enlighten me.

You can still play up close. I personally do so as often as I can, but it took a long and hard learning curve to know when and how to do that effectively. Heck, my FdG isnt even built for concealment and is about the size of the moon, but it can be done. And heck, I will even take my Thunderer close to a cap when I see that there is an opportunity for me to do so. These things come with experience, so you just gotta stay at it and you'll see after a while how you can take these forward positions and get away with it (and even make some plays!).

There is a big difference between these levels of potato play. Potatoes that sit back are generally far less of a liability than the potatoes that sail straight into the cap and die. The reason why this is so bad, is that it puts your team at an immediate disadvantage with a ship down, and nothing you can do to mitigate that. With potatoes that snipe from max range however, they still exert some level of battle influence, even if very little. They still can threaten a crossfire (which the enemy has to take into account), they can still soak damage, and they arent completely useless unlike that idiot that just died at the cap 3 minutes into the game. In fact, I researched this about a year ago to see if this hypothesis held true. My findings were that you can pretty reliably tell how a 40% player will behave (among the absolute worst players int he game), compared to a 46% player (still bad, but nowhere near that level of bad). The 40%ers usually go straight into the cap and die being completely oblivious, putting their team at an immediate disadvantage - even more so when they play a DD. The 46%ers generally tend to play ultra safe, sitting at max range in a BB, trying to "flank" in a Shima with 20 km torps, and similar. Bad, yes, but not anywhere near as bad as the complete potatoes. My point is, you see these terrible plays more often in the lower tiers, and the OP most likely is still used to that "meta" in the lower tiers.

Its a fact that players generally dont play so risky in T10 because it gets them killed though. This guy here btw, he did what lower tier players did - he sailed out in the open in front of a cap, saw a BB, opened up his 16 guns and died 6 seconds later.

This doesnt even make sense. Yes the players that bought a T10 are usually terrible, but they are terrible because they are often new players who havent grinded up yet and gotten some experience with the game. Where do you find similar players to these, but who havent bought a T10? Yes, in lower tiers, that's where.

Nice try doubting the intentions of our post, but its just a fact. The lower tiers have a much higher representation of new players who tend to play poorly. This is the same reason that if you wanna seal club to boost your stats, you do so in a low tier game. Nobody is every saying that the players at T10 are great at the game (many of them are not), but its not comparable to the levels of bad you see in the lower tiers.

Its not due to maps, its due to the fact that players WILL punish misplays at T10. BBs especially are the cause of this, as every cruiser who got devstrick due to a brief spot already knows. So you have to play more careful, engage at range and use cover. Actually I played only FdG today myself, and these were the results: About half the games involved me pushing when the time was right, and I personally vastly prefer that tactical aspect to the shitshow that is low to mid tiers, where the BB class just dominates and gets to reliably instablap cruisers that are oblivious to the fact that they are out of position.

Tier 10 is boring - thoughts on why

I'm gonna be blunt here, so forgive me if you take offense. Tier 10 is a rude awakening for new (usually bad) players. Lots of people here comment on how there are so many bad players at tier 10, but honestly, the players are generally better there than in the lower tiers. This means for instance that more players are aware that you cannot recklessly push deep early in the game like they do at tier 6, because that will 9/10 times get you killed, and hence the "meta" becomes more focused around ranged engagements (this isnt a true meta as it arises out of necessity, not preference). Add in the fact that guns get higher accuracy with high shell velocoties, and you got a very dangerous environment to do any dumb plays that would have worked at tier 6, as even weak players will be able to aim and punish you severely at tier 10. Also, HE spam isnt broken. In fact, it's mostly the only weapon that cruisers and some DDs have against BBs, as their AP just doesnt have enough penetration to be worth using. And statistically, cruisers and DDs still do less average damage compared to BBs, so there is little supporting evidence of HE+fires being broken. It's a weapon that you use because there arent many good alternatives, and it is a very low game impact weapon at that.

I do have my fair suspicions that these BB mains just want all BB battles, some of them have even said so out loud. Funny how they stick to BBs while calling HE use from cruisers and DDs OP. Usually they have even worse stats in those (there is a reason they play BB after all), so that hypothesis rarely if ever holds true. Also they fail to think of the reverse alternative. Are cruisers (barring petro, Stalin and mino) and DDs supposed to rely on AP against BBs? How exactly would that work out in most cases?
  15. Hey, nothing wrong with that!

    I'm really lucky!

Of course, and getting a T10 is insanely lucky considering the odds of that happening. Just because he didn't get a Musashi doesnt mean that wasnt an extremely lucky drop.

    I'm really lucky!

Yeah, he could have gotten those nice 50x camos instead, Getting Marceau wasn't lucky at all. Sarcasm of course.

    Subs get buffs, other changes

Yes but not submerged ones. And for periscope depth the only source I could find was one detecting sub periscopes at 1 mile, which wasn't nearly at the range of how far out surface ships could be detected.

    Subs get buffs, other changes

I for one am fine with radar not affecting subs because it shouldnt work against anything like a sub to begin with. However, hydro should be the real killer against subs, having a much larger range against targets below surface level. All that being said, I am in favour of more realistic approaches in general, and generally think this game has just turned for the worse in the amount of unrealistic crap that keeps getting added, 30 knot submerged subs with homing torps included.

    Schlieffen: Let's discuss this BB.

Isnt also an advantage of Schlieffen in ranked, that you only face 7 ships as opposed to 12 in randoms? Less incoming fire to worry about, especially if the enemy splits their forces like they usually do. 3 defending ships is a whole different ballgame compared to 5+

OMG losing the will to live - FdG 2.0

Thats the problem I had with Gneisenau. Damage wise she did allright, and if I could get into a favourable endgame with plenty HP intact I could really steamroll. The problem was that she had very low impact for large parts of the early game, so that WR suffered.
  22. This is not always a fix. Had it happen several times and tried the autopilot, but my boat refused to move. Super frustrating when you get stuck like that while detected, had my share of deaths caused by it.

Special commanders: worth the 175k coal ?

See this is where for me, the logic is turned on its head. Yeah I could prolly have fun with a few games with this ship, but this commander here is gonna be used when I play any of the 3(4) ship types of this nation, and is excellent to have when I grind up this new line here.
  24. Hirohito

what to take from coal Marceau or Max Immelmann?

Depends on what you like to play of course. These two are as different as you can possibly get. Yes, Marceau is good in capable hands, tho pretty crap in the hands of an average player.
