Ragnar has great turret angles, can still get both to bear while being in autobounce territory.

To be fair, fortunately they play BB and not DDs. Having a potato DD actively trying to make his team lose is just way, way more frustrating, especially in ranked. BBs are so dumbed down because the majority of terrible players love them, that there's a hard floor of how bad you can be in them and still dont hurt your team too much. -

Sorry about that, I tried posting the reply and nothing happened. Reloaded the page and tried posting again, and apparently that caused the post to be postes multiple times. -

That's not really a bad position for the friendly BBs. Problem is more, they all lemminged to the same side, leaving the northern flank vulnerable. Enemy FDG and Lion have much worse positions. Yes, while that FDG is pushing (apparently how a lot of forum potatoes claim BBs should be played), he is extremely overextended, without cover, and against superior forces with no way to disengage. I dont even need to see a replay to know that he died within the next 30 seconds. Doesnt excuse the friendly 4 BB lemming blob, but position wise they're quite fine. -

I find it sad that there is so much focus on raw damage numbers to begin with in this game, and not % damage dealt. Makes BB fire farmers look so good, when in reality it's often low % dpm and also low game impact type of damage.

For a Daring just forget about your torps, unless the Petro for some reason decides to overextend into an area with island (single torps are devastating at close range). That, or if the Petro has very limited support and is sitting stationary (without another radar, or screening DD) - in that case you can bait the radar and then go in to dump 10 torps on his nose and get back out again. Daring does have 13km guns tho, so usually I just add supporting fire to farm his superstructure+fires (from smoke if needed), if someone else is hardspotting him. Generally, and this depends heavily on the map and circumstance - you want to be spotting the Petro to have your team deal with him, not be the one who deals with him directly. Fortunately for you, you can spot him outside of radar range. Unfortunately for you, that window is just a couple hundred meters, so you gotta stay on your toes.

Oh I dont disagree that CVs can be worse, but Soviet radar doesn't make that right either. I remember back last year when it was T10 and Sleeping Giant was in the rotation. I was, as usual, sharking the middle channel in my Daring, while the enemy team had a Shima and Kleber. Before going into A cap (the one formed like an "eye", with two entrances) I needed to know whether or not I could enter the cap, or whether I should keep zoning the middle. Asked the Petro (who sat at the usual spot right below the "eye", near the middle channel) to radar, and even if that radar sweep had just lasted 1 second, it would give me all the information I needed. Nothing there - go into A and cap it, also telling most of our western flank to redirect and shore up the eastern flank immediately (most likely a huge push incoming on the other side, since 0 ships were detected on this side). Shima spotted - be careful, maybe zone him depending on his position (indicating what he's up to), or contest the cap if he goes in without support. Shima + Kleber spotted, maybe also some cruisers lurking on either side (the 12 km sweep shows those as well since it's so large) = gtfo. In a way it's nice having all that information and being able to use it against a team that doesn't know how to utilize the information in the same way, but when two competent teams meet it really puts a big speed bump on any plays utilizing concealment and surprise, which I think is a shame as it makes the games very predictable and static.

First you need to talk to your clan about what their needs are. I've been to CBs where I was told I could pick Daring because it's a good ship, but no clear instructions for what they wanted me to do in it. I know how I like to play her - zoning out an enemy DD and screen for torps, ideally bumping into it and smoke up as I get a good trade and right before I take big incoming fire, and even more ideally in a position where the enemy DD will be lit from gun bloom even when I smoke. That however, is irrelevant if your clan battles leader didn't explain what your concrete purpose is, otherwise you'll be guessing and out of sync with the rest of the team. I'm not talking micromanaging your decisions here, but more in the terms of - map control? Cap contesting? Vision control? DD zoning/screening? Last time I played CBs with this clan was rather unpleasant for me, because the leader got tilted that I "wasn't doing my job properly" and kept calling me out for "mistakes". He never told me what my main tasks were though, so I went with what I thought was right in the spur of the moment. Communication here is key. As for radar, begin with knowing where they are usually located, and think about if you need to confirm whether your suspicion holds true. Since the maps are 12v12 maps with 7 players, you usually get more room and time to start getting vision. Running straight into a contested cap is usually a bad idea, so if possible you want to get a "peek behind the island" before you commit to anything. And you also want to keep tabs on where the enemy DD is, in case he's up to the same thing. Which tends to escalate into a zoning war between the two DD, as they each try to wrestle control of that part of the map from the other DD (if they both went to the same flank that is).

Yeah, the fact that it was the meta pick until Petro came along is irrelevant here, right? Saying Stalingrad is a bad ship is just way over the top. You might not like it, but in no way is it a bad ship - just stop it.

I don't agree with this. Yes it's bad when you get caught for so long in a Desmo radar, (at least if we're talking about a "surprise desmo radar") but if you do, in the majority of cases it means you mispositioned badly, or took the position knowing full well that you aren't gonna be doing anything useful anyway. Soviet radar is way more oppressive, because it covers such a huge area, giving you proportionally less room to work with.

It's not necessarily about being killed within a radar duration, but how these radars give pinpoint accuracy on what the enemy team (especially the DD) is up to. As a DD I don't want the enemy to know exactly where I am, for several reasons: - Depending on where I get radar spotted, it clearly shows where I am, and where I'm headed - meaning, it shows what my intentions are (for eample if I intend to cap, launch torps, or go aggressive against their DD). - Being radared also shows where I am not, which is very important information to have for a flank that is worried about whether or not I am there to contest any DD or set up cross torps as they contemplate pushing. Heck, even a radar sweep that doesn't reveal me, it at the very minimum gives the enemy the information that there is nothing within 360 degrees, 12 kms out, which often can confirm where I actually am ("he has to be either at X or Y. We just confirmed he isnt at X, so he must be at Y"). As for other ship types, maps like North is a good map example to illustrate the problem. 12km radar, even if it just sweeps for 15 seconds, will show where most of the red ships are (and where they are not), and what they are up to. Being caught in a radar as you try to gather up 4 ships to do a surprise push on C cap on North, just ruins the attempt as the defenders are in position to take advantage of it or start kiting back in time.

Buff for the IJN DDs T9/10(and maybe ZAO)
Hirohito replied to General_Alexus's topic in General Discussion
Make sure you have support, don't be afraid of dropping wide carpets of torps if you suspect he is close (Småland is really prone to run into unexpected torps), always try to deduce from the minimap where the Småland is, and keep your finger off the smoke button and always be in a position where you are ready to kite away immediately. Don't get me wrong, I really like eating up Shimas in Småland, but the majority approach it totally wrong. As a Småland I look for isolated and overextending shimas in obvious locations, that I can gun down before he runs out of radar range. Don't give a Småland that opportunity. -

Shame how this thread doesnt really show the true distribution of loot in SCs, but mostly devolves into a flashing contest when something good actually drops. -
He is right tho, prices really are rough in this game. 50€+ for a single pixel boat for instance, is beyond ridiculous.
-
If I buy myself a premium DD, its going to be the Orkan. She is unique enough that you get something out of the ordinary, and I definitely like Småland which she shares several characteristics with. I generally like DD hunters that can carry games though, so that colours my decision. Would definitely get Cossack at some point too, for the same reason.

Someone bring out the BBaby complaint bingo card again please.. -
Got her on Fault Line now and thats a good map for it, but New Dawn I dislike because the ranges are so short. You gotta hang back really far there, and the flank islands arent too particularly big either so you often do get spotted one way or another.
-
I just started playing her myself. She is ok, but imo suffers more from low tier MM in that the island options are a bit more limited there and the ranges are too short to play the open waters too much. Same reason I dislike those tiers to begin with, they are often a BB captain's wet dream. (Incidentally, prolly why so many casual BB players dislike high tier gameplay, as we recently saw again in a thread)

Fully agree, I stopped watching his videos a long time ago because he was spewing so much nonsense. Almost as much nonsense as nozoup, so much whiny BB talk in general.
