It makes sense at tier II yeah. Besides having low tier premiums isn't bad, although the number of plausible DD premiums is increasing

Ah yeah, forgot about that one. Thanks for pointing it out!

Capturing the imposing effect of certain ships
Deamon93 replied to _Pheasant_'s topic in Age of Armour Warships
If you move Bismarck between the premium ships Germany won't have anything at tier VIII. Besides all the names you quoted are placed somewhere in the standard lines, this doesn't mean they are mistreated. Regarding the Yaks they weren't as outdated and crappy as you say, on the contrary. Still that's OT -
POSSIBLE PREMIUMS(Foreign designs) At the moment i will just list the name of ships. In the next days i will write something about them. -Tegetthoff -Taranto(ex Strassburg, Magdeburg-class) -Brindisi(ex Helgoland, Novara-class) -Ancona(ex Graudenz, Graudenz-class) -Bari(ex Pillau, Pillau-class) -FR 11(ex Jean de Vienne, La Galissonnière-class) -Premuda(ex V116) -Audace(ex Kawakaze) -Sebenico(ex Beograd, Beograd-class) -Premuda(ex Dubrovnik) -FR 21(ex Lion, Guépard-class) -FR 22(ex Panthère, Chacal-class) -FR 31(ex Trombe, Ouragan-class) -FR 32(ex Sirocco, ex Le Corsaire, Le Hardi-class)

Yep what i was thinking.

I will still think about Etna but yeah, most likely she'll become a premium the tier above Condottieri I(so V for now). Regarding this heavy cruiser looks interesting. I wonder if the museum at La Spezia has something about it(since i'm not too fond of going to Venice and/or Rome from Turin and find absolutely nothing ). I was wondering what about Spica being a low tier premium? Sure it was a torpedo boat but the later ones were relatively big and it could work. Just to place a ship designed and built in Italy as premium before starting to take Yugoslavian/French designs(for the same reason i used modified UP.90 instead of La Galissonnière)
-
Yeah i know but Worchester at least makes sense in the line while Etna has nothing in common with the bunch of Condottieri. Regarding Atlanta that's what i think will (most likely) happen to Etna. Possibly, i placed her at tier VIII(for now) because it's the highest tier for a premium. If i can find more about her and if she shows potential i may move her in the line in parallel with the Spanish CA.

POSSIBLE PREMIUMS(Italian designs) BC project 1930 t's a battlecruiser project relatively similar to the Littorio-class. One model of this ship is held at the Naval Museum of La Spezia but, sadly, i wasn't able to visit that part(it was closed due to water infiltration when i went there). Stats wise i don't know how different it will be compared to Littorio but it's safe to say she'll be a tier VIII premium battleship. Modified UP.90 The UP.90 was originally a pocket battleship, modified to be a light cruiser(i may consider the original UP.90 eventually but with the German counterpart at tier IV of the BB line i prefer not, at least for now). She'll be placed at the same tier of Condottieri V/VI with some advantages(better secondary and AAA) and disadvantages(one less gun in a broadside, less powerful machinery and a lighter displacement which should translate in less HP). Sadly i don't have data on her protection, i'll update ASAP. Technical data Standard displacement: 8000 tons Full load displacement: 9200 tons Length: 176 m(overall length) Beam: 19 m Draught: 5.6 m Installed power: 60.000 hp Maximum speed: 30 knots Protection: //(to be updated) Armament: 3x3 152/55, 6x2 100/47, 8x37/54(most likely 4x2), 16x20/65(most likely 8x2), 2x3 533 mm TT Original Zara As said in the part regarding Zara there was a preliminary study with a standard displacement of 14000 tons and the belt armor 200 mm thick. I don't know much about this design but i think it should be fairly similar to Zara. As such she is a plausible tier VIII premium candidate, placed in parallel with the final Zara.

Tier II: Garibaldi Story The Garibaldi-class was an armored cruiser designed for export. She served with the Italian, Argentinian, Spanish and Japanese navies. Overall eight ships were built: three for the Italian(Garibaldi, Varese and Ferrucci), four for the Argentinian(Garibaldi, San Martin, Belgrano and Pueyrredon), one for the Spanish(Cristobal Colon) and two for the Japanese(Kasuga and Nisshin). What makes this class special is the fact that they were able to take a serious beating and stay afloat. The best example on that regard is Nisshin which took 13 hits(of which six were 12" and one 9" shells) and stayed afloat and in her position for the whole time(she was the sixth and final ship in the main Japanese line with her sister Kasuga in front of her). In Italian service this class served in the Italo-Turkish war and in WWI(Garibaldi was sunk by a submarine on 1915). After WWI the surviving ships served as training ships until the late '20s(replaced by Amerigo Vespucci and Cristoforo Colombo). Technical data Standard displacement: 7234 tons Full load displacement: 7972 tons Length: 104.1 m(water line), 111.8 m(overall length) Beam: 18.3 m Draught: 7.1 m Installed power: -Varese: 14713 hp -Garibaldi: 13655 hp Maximum speed: -Varese: 20 knots -Garibaldi: 19.7 knots Protection: 150 - 70 mm(belt), 150 mm(upper belt), 150 - 100 mm(barbettes), 150 mm(turrets), 150 mm(casemates), 38 - 25 mm(deck), 150 mm(CT) Armament: 2x2 203/45 or 2x1 254/40 or 1x2 203/45 + 1x1 254/40, 14x1 152/40, 10x1 76/40 Refits: none Tier III: Pisa Story The Pisa-class armored cruiser was derived from Regina Elena. They were heavily armed for an armored cruisers, with four 10" guns and eight 7.5" guns, and their protection was sizeable, with 200 mm of belt armor(just 50 mm less than the contemporary battleships). Three ships of this class were built: Pisa, Amalfi and Averof(sold to Greece). The two Italian ones served in the Italo Turkish war and then in WWI. Amalfi was sunk by a submarine in 1915 while Pisa survived and got stricken in 1937. I don't talk about Averof because it will be considered in the EU tech tree(we don't know the tier yet). Technical data Standard displacement: 9832 tons Full load displacement: 10600 tons Length: 130 m(water line), 140.5 m(overall length) Beam: 21 m Draught: 7.1 m Installed power: 20000 hp Maximum speed: 23 knots Protection: 200 mm(belt), 160 mm(main turrets), 130 mm(secondary turrets), 50 mm(deck), 180 mm(CT) Armament: 2x2 254/45, 4x2 190/45, 16x1 76/50, 8x1 47/50, 4x1 6.5/80 Refits: -1917 - 1918, Pisa: -2x1 76/50, 8x1 47/50; +6x1 76/40 Tier IV: San Giorgio Story The San Giorgio-class is basically an iteration of Pisa with few improvements regarding machinery and protection of turrets(both primary and secondary) and conning tower. Two ships of this class were built: San Giorgio and San Marco. There are also differences between the two ships of the class: San Marco has a more powerful machinery and four shafts instead of two. Both served during WWI and remained in service during the inter war period. San Marco was converted to a radio controlled target while San Giorgio was refitted and sent to Tobruk as static AA platform. San Giorgio was scuttled by the crew on 22/1/1941. San Giorgio is known because her AAA guns destroyed the plane of Italo Balbo, famous Italian aviator and then governor of Lybia(some time before British planes attacked so the gunners assumed it was an enemy plane). Technical data Standard displacement: -San Giorgio: 10167 tons -San Marco: 10969 ton Full load displacement: -San Giorgio: 11300 tons -San Marco: 11900 tons Length: 131 m(water line), 140.8 m(overall length) Beam: 21 m Draught: -San Giorgio: 7.3 m -San Marco: 7.8 m Installed power: -San Giorgio: 19500 hp -San Marco: 23000 hp Maximum speed: -San Giorgio: 23.2 knots -San Marco: 23.8 knots Protection: 200 mm(belt), 200 mm(main turrets), 160 mm(secondary turrets), 50 mm(deck), 250 mm(CT) Armament: 2x2 254/45, 4x2 190/45, 18x1 76/50, 2x1 47/50, 4x1 6.5/80 Refits: -1917 - 1918, both: -8x1 76/50, 8x1 47/50; +6x1 76/40 -1938, San Giorgio: -10x1 76/50, 6x1 76/40, 2x1 6.5/80; +4x2 100/47, 2x2 13.2/76, 6x2 20/65, 3x2 37/54 -1940, San Giorgio: +1x2 100/47, +5x2 13.2/76 NOTE: In the 1938 San Giorgio also got her machinery modified: she originally had 14 boilers burning coal and in the refit she mounted 8 boilers burning oil. This change reduced the overall displacement, the amount of funnels and also the speed(which wasn't that necessary since she was used as a stationary AA platform). Since her speed dropped below 19 knots with this refit i don't know if it will be used or not.

If i recall correctly originally all the class was supposed to be converted, then issues with the budget caused the reduction of ships to two and then the program was canceled. I may be wrong though ^^
-
Ah ok, i thought the WWI one. She could be fine although the 105 mm may be a bit weak.
-
Indeed she is too fast since the other tier Is have a maximum speed of around 20 knots. We'll see which one will be considered for tier I Isn't Brummer still too fast? She had a maximum speed of 28 knots, right?
-
Speed aside seems like a tier I candidate.
-
You're welcome! Regarding the guns the original 152/53 is easy to recognize due to the very little space between the two guns. Better spacing was implemented only on later guns such as the 152/55 and the 135/45. Here is the original da Giussano, as you can see it's impossible to see the spacing from above.
-
The guns were the 135/45 in the same twin mounts of Capitani Romani and not the original 152/53 twin mounts.
-
Bismarck will get stomped by Yamato and Montana. She is placed at tier VIII and she'll do fine there
-
Well my knowlege of that period comes from what it's written in the Italian history books at high school so pretty much only the proper Italian-Austrian border.

What we know about Ships: Updated 05/04/2017
Deamon93 replied to mr3awsome's topic in General Discussion
Don't worry, real life issues are more important . In any case thank you for the updates! Moreover they don't have any mistakes, at least i haven't noticed any. -
Didn't know that, thanks for pointing it out!

What we know about Ships: Updated 05/04/2017
Deamon93 replied to mr3awsome's topic in General Discussion
Personally i think that Agano would be fine at tier VI, if not on the strong side due to her torpedo armament. Sure as far as primary armament is concerned isn't that great but there aren't any cruisers capable of firing a comparable amount of torpedoes on a broadside, plus the quality advantage of the Long Lance over most of the torpedoes developed by the other countries. Agano Kai at tier VI would be overkill. -
I could have written much more but it would become a super long wall-of-text. I may do a topic on them eventually but it's not a priority as for now
-
Yeah, the way i phrased it sounds like it was started. I'll rephrase it right away!
-
The pain is to make a good what-if modernization for her but i leave that to the capable hands of WG. It shouldn't be that difficult for them since they can take inspiration from the modernizations of Cavour/Caio Duilio. We'll see anyway, especially since i don't think they will work on Italian ships(with Italian flags) anytime soon.
-
Yeah by 1938 there were functional prototypes of sonars while radar was still in the relatively early phases of development. Regarding the timing everything in Italy didn't expect to take part in any conflict by 1940 but politics thought otherwise and derped badly.
-
Ah yeah. Well the Re.2000 weights considerably more than the smaller Ro.43 so who knows if that catapult is powerful enough. Like radar, another technology considered witchcraft until things went horribly wrong horribly fast.
