WG said there won't be submarines ingame. In case they change idea i'll work on them as well.
-
The German tier X should be H-41 which is fairly similar in displacement to Yamato, with H-39 at tier IX
-
Yeah but it shouldn't be ingame. Yamato is already enough.

Thank you! Italy only got Tegetthoff as war reparation and she can't cover the hole i have at tier VII. I'm going to search for projects though, hopefully i should be able to find something

Monitor (warship) - Tech Tree options
Deamon93 replied to Skuruthai's topic in Age of Armour Warships
Were they? I missed that. Well with those bulges you can take more hits which isn't bad but then again a monitor doesn't have the proper main armament to deal with DDs regardless, unless WG decides to give to the players the control over the secondary armament. Besides i don't understand why monitors should be considered while it's unclear if armored cruisers will be considered or not. -
Missed that, sorry ^^. They had bad sea worthiness but we don't know if that would have an effect ingame or not. Regarding the rest they won't be great but neither super crappy. The longer the range the less relevant belt armor is and the more relevant deck armor is. Compared to tier VIIIs currently known Bismarck should be the worst in deck armor, making her the most vulnerable from long range(i have to double check though, i don't recall the exact data). Sure the guns were accurate but without some degree of protection it's difficult to survive. Hipper and Deutchland have very minimal protection(which is weird in case of Hipper since she's an oversized cruiser), only Scharnhorst had a reasonable protection but then again was much larger.

Monitor (warship) - Tech Tree options
Deamon93 replied to Skuruthai's topic in Age of Armour Warships
I don't think they will show up, mainly because they are painfully slow. Excluding carriers all the other classes reach speeds of over 20 knots, leaving the monitors behind Moreover they would be quite vulnerable to torpedo attacks due to their speed, both from planes and from ships. -
Also HMS Warspite achieved similar results. I don't recall the exact length at the moment, still Scharnhorst isn't the only one with a long range hit under the belt. Anyway i don't know how influential FCS would be eventually. Hopefully that would be represented, especially since Germany suffers already in other categories.

Capturing the imposing effect of certain ships
Deamon93 replied to _Pheasant_'s topic in Age of Armour Warships
That's true but it's hard to place her, unless she gets some buffs. They have to buff her speed to make her compete at high tiers and i think WG can do that. Sure it's not totally historically accurate but otherwise it would be too complicated to place. -

Deutchland is difficult to place. There are some pros and cons. Cons 1)She's lightly armored so in the BB line would make little to no sense 2)She's slow, slower than some capital ships(fast BBs and BCs) and of course slower than cruisers. Pros 1)Her armament is good against cruisers which have only 6" or 8" guns. 2)She's faster than most slow battleships(since she was designed to run in case one showed up). Considering the pros and cons she could be a mid-high tier premium(6 or, more unlikely, 7) where most of capital ships are still slower and proper cruisers aren't that powerful yet. She would still require some sort of escort to avoid being blitzed by destroyers(since the 11" guns aren't that useful against against them and her secondary isn't that great) but she would be a nice long range sniper. To me it's the best placement for this ship since at higher tiers would suffer too much. Then again it's just an opinion ^^ -
Night Mode... why this game absolutely has to have one. Period.

That would be nice too! -

A complete night map would be complicated, maybe a dawn/dusk map could work. In that case there's at least some light so people can see where they are going and what are doing and carriers would be actually useful(in a night engagements carriers required airborne radars which became available only in the final years of the war. -

But Bismarck, as far as we know, is the tier VIII BB in their line. They can't move her to the premiums since they won't have a substitute, besides she's the logical pick below the H-class. -
They won't have a class of their own and they aren't supposed to go head on against a proper BB. If one uses BCs like that he/she is just dumb.
-
Battlecruisers don't have a class of their own. Besides the information we have on both Germany and UK is old and it may be outdated.
-
True, they weren't, but they weren't exactly good as non treaty cruisers developed afterwards, like Baltimore as example.
-
That's true. In that sense yeah: Scharnhorst and Gneisenau were useful. She can compete with Zara and Algerie, she can't compete with their respective developments however. Unless you find Hipper capable of facing "Zara under steroids": the Zara look-alike with 37 knots of maximum speed, 200.000 HP, nine 8" guns and so on and similar protection. Same can be said about C5/St.Louis for the French. Caio Duilio was a further development of Conte di Cavour and there's nothing related to Germany. As said above the only foreign influence can be found in the guns but that's about it. I know Bismarck was designed with another purpose in mind but doesn't change the fact they used her that way(and failed horribly). The only ships which succeeded were the two Scharnhorsts: in their trip they did some nice damage...and then they got boxed in and got a horrible end.
-
Having a better crew may help but won't stop shelling from penetrating. We don't know yet, we can guess though. One thing at a time. Scharnhorst was a waste of resources. Why? They were a 30.000 ton commerce raider and for the same amount of money and resources Germany could have spammed the crap out of ships like Kormoran. Bismarck is pretty much another XXL sized commerce raider which made her name famous simply because she sank a redesigned pre-Jutland battlecruiser. She was good at tanking the damage, that's true, but she also violated the Washington Treaty by having a larger displacement. The pocket battleships were cruiser sized ships with larger guns designed to deal with cruisers from long range and to GTFO from slower battleships. They can be easily countered by more armored cruisers or faster battleships, making them useless. Hipper was just a cruiser larger than all the pre-war cruisers. A good ship but since Germany didn't take into account the limitations that's easy to achieve, at least until they existed. Emden and Konigsberg are around as capable as the other contemporary light cruisers but eventually Germany got surpassed in light cruiser development. Unless you find Liepzig or Nurnberg capable of facing the latest French and Italian light cruisers, just to remain in continental Europe(no need to involve the UK or OP 'Merica) They showed how Germany fought: with small groups, or even a single ship, against overwhelming numbers and by throwing lives and resources away. I hardly see the Hipper class a tier IX, tier VIII is more suitable. Deutchland can't even be at tier X, Des Moine would rape her hard. More importantly however is this: as said above she was designed to GTFO from battleships but if battleships are faster(which is the case) she becomes a lovely target. Besides neither Hipper nor Deutchland have neither the armor nor the speed to deal with cruisers at that tier or to escape from enemies. You know that most naval engagements around Europe actually happened in the Med between Italy and UK, don't you?
-
It's difficult to answer to your question since there are a lot of factors involved: during WWI Germany had a powerful navy and was advanced technologically. After WWI Germany developed ships with commerce raiding in mind and their designs weren't so great compared to the counterparts.

Bismarck was outside the maximum range of every German fighter available back then so it was impossible to send out CAPs.- 69 replies

Indeed but that's because the construction was halted few times slowing down the process. They should have completed her before WWII or at least at the start of WWII, she would have been useful in that case.- 69 replies
