I'm playing BBs and DDs and in a BB i rarely get hit by torpedos from DDs. US BBs can turn quite fast, especially with the rudder shift time module. Another great tool against DDs is the captains skill that notifies you if you are spotted. (I believe it's called Situational Awareness) If the warning signal pops up and I can't see any enemy ship around, I know that a hidden enemy DDs is close to me. In that case I immediately start evasive maneuvers.
