When it was used IRL and it will be a feature on new CV that will be belanced so it doesn't get overpowered .....why not. At least WG is doing their best to provide enjoyment and cloning existing mechanics is boring. And i do not hear anyone screaming his head off about AP rockets anymore......might aswell fire native indian arrows for that damage......yet the world ended when word got out AP rockets would be a feature. You will stomach submarines and even more nation's CV in all game modes. If not, why keep the game installed let alone continue to play it ?

Did you guys by any means notice this thing has SMOKE ? It can fire 203 mm guns undetected at ranges greater then 7.98 km from smoke. Alaska does not have smoke, neither do it's closests related US Baltimore class Cruisers that have to seek shelter behind islands instead..... It has torpedo's so a BB attempting running it down in smoke is a bad idea also.... So you can figure it does have considerable power yet, as it is a smoke heavy Cruiser.....it does need other ships to be it's eyes and it obviously needs some minimum range ( ~8 km ) without enemy DD in between spotting it's gun bloom.

How are the "Base XP" average values (for both sides - lower and higher) in new "Asymmetric Battles" game mode?
Beastofwar replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Low tier winning ( which must occur ~98 % of the time as far as i experienced it ) average but not very interesting. As above stated by others i sometimes could reach 1100 base XP as 1st position winning. Low tier losing : no idea.....didn't occur often enough to notice yet. High tier losing : appalling and a complete waste of your time. High tier winning : no idea.....didn't occur often enough to notice yet. High tier can win...i saw 2 in formation sailing human controlled BB picking off 1 target together by focussed fire one for one and do it all by themselves ignoring their failing bot allies. The difficult thing is to find such skilled player(s) that want to work together like that when in the high tier team. A note to this : no idea what the access restricting tokens are good for.......they seem to contribute to the high tier losing most of the time as the most important factor since high tier now often is filled with bots. The mode can only be redeemed by far more human players getting acces to high tier. Unless this is all WG testing and all this is intended.....bots replacing humans ? Greater tier spread balancing ? -
I changed my mind : i must have it. I saw one in game already, firing from ( i presume ) expanded smoke...... and it got to whittle me down to destruction while i could not return fire or do anything about it while fighting 2 enemy BB. And i assume it fired torps on me also ? When used in skilled hands that thing is trouble.....and it seems much more duarable then a Smolensk, since its strenght seems to be smoke firing.....

Kleber Unique Upgrade / Legendary Module
Beastofwar replied to HMS_Kilinowski's topic in General Discussion
This. You must think of it as an extremely fast speed, high ROF gun but fragile HP small Cruiser with insane low detectibility for a Cruiser......therefore reducing it to bad concealent DD with slow ROF guns must be a really bad idea. It seems like a service from WG for those that really cannot get the hang of DD operating like Cruisers, and providing a means to make it perform like a DD again and the term "legendary" is a bit misleading. But if you cannot operate a DD as a Cruiser several other nations "DD" are not for you either. -
Asymmetric battles. How to make them interesting
Beastofwar replied to Grumpy_Shark's topic in General Discussion
I think the whole thing is just another WG mass testing in a live more representative enviroment then PTS. The far wider tier spread balanced differently creates opportunities for MM ofcourse. As does the infusion of bots if need be. But it creates more challenge aswell. But what caught my eye in perticular were bot operated CV acting against a sort of reversed Operation Newport with humans as incoming waves. WG could be testing/tuning them too. -
Never underestimate IJN Kongo class....or so it seems. While the score is nothing impressive this Kirishima first citadelled a human piloted Mogami and then a human piloted Odin to destruction. Ended up with 74k damage which is respectable for a T5 i think. It surprised me too, been neglecting these 4 clone ships since i got them for free.

Five epochs campaign: missed opportunity?
Beastofwar replied to Jvd2000's topic in General Discussion
Re-buying very low tier ships and their slot 1 or maybe slot 2 modules is not a big deal...... Actually i enjoyed the now strange again "primitive" ship weapons and designs again.....just like the campaign envisions when you read through it. It takes you back on which shoulders the tier 10 ships were built...... -
Despite being a very old topic ( which i didn't dig up ) : OP gets confirmed by the "Salvo weight comparison" video by WG : the Bayern throws out more salvo weight then the Bismarck (!)
-
Did you also calculate a 100-155 mm HE shell only causes ~700-800 penetrating damage on average ? And when on saturated areas ~300-400 damage ? Chip, chip chip. You need a lot of salvo's with actual shells 1) hitting and 2) penetrating before you even reach 5k !! Then again (IF)HE penetrations is not preventable by any means...not angleing, not extinghuishing, not by any preventive build. I guess WG did the math when they (re)designed it.
-
WRONG ! IFHE rework resulted in everyone just ditched IFHE and with that also lost their small fire penalty so fire chance actually increased. Because IFHE does only reward chipping damage ( 33 % or 16 % of shell damage upon penetration ) and only on targets you could not penetrate, it is not an option for potentially tens of thousands of HP worth of fires. Forcing players into 1 build only. Well i hope the skill rework will put an end to that.....but i fear not if they do not adress fire chance.
-
I see an influx of random mode campers that balances things out now.......high tier can actually win easily if only a part of the low tiers advance and the rest camps....like in randoms. I guess we will just have to wait on the "This is totally unfair" posts when the low tiers find out they cannot win camping.

2000 doubloons so far, i will poor them into that dockyard event so they may be lost when i don't complete it....but then at least id did not cost me real money. loads of trash = various one time bonus camo's
-
I got 2000 doubloons out of free "super" containers for winning ( coop lol ) with Tier X ships......so the "starter pack" could be "free" with opening some more free boxes and maybe with that even that whole ship depending on the difficulty of directive tasks. I'd call that encouraging ( for me, not OP lol ) even if the ship and what i know of it now does not excite me at all. I find island hugging type Cruisers difficult to use as i dislike camping behind obstacles and being stationary. The meaning of the word "waifu" eluded me for years aswell...only recently i read that the meaning of that in Japanese sense.....and finally understood it's correlation to island hugger type ships.

Use the ship horn for torpedo warning
Beastofwar replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
Then CV would be able to use that too......and being able to spot torpedo's for allies was not removed for nothing.....CV spot sometimes over a hundred of them during a battle. Always painfull to see them rushing toward an ususpecting BB and not being able to do anything. -
Use the ship horn for torpedo warning
Beastofwar replied to FixCVs_Nautical_Metaphor's topic in General Discussion
Great idea.....too bad you can't remotely use the CV horns though. If that would be in audible range that is. -
I found a guide for being in the low tier team : You'll take my life but I'll take yours too You'll fire your musket but I'll run you through So when you're waiting for the next attack You'd better stand there's no turning back The bugle sounds as the charge begins But on this battlefield no one wins The smell of acrid smoke and horses breath As you plunge into a certain death The horse he sweats with fear we break to run The mighty roar of the Russian guns And as we race towards human wall The screams of pain as my comrades fall We hurdle bodies that lay on the ground And as the Russians fire another round We get so near yet so far away We won't live to fight another day Is it not hliarious to take the place of an Operation Newport bot ?

As far as i have seen ships that collectively will keep afloat after taking massive ( there can be multiple CV ) airstrikes long enough to sink the high tier enemies are the most practical. Low tier DD with tiny HP pools ( T5 and T6 (!) are not among them, and time or opportunity to pull off fancy sneaking up tactics is often not there. And low tier CV and DD that are either invisible or too far away to be seen do not help the charging low tiers to overwhelm the high tier enemey into giving them trouble to bring out effective focussing fire. Same goes for camping behaviour. The less visible low tiers there are, the higher the chance they might actually lose as they will easily be picked off one by one by powerful high tiers*..... So using many DD and CV promote losing for the low tiers. * As T5 or T6 you are in the realm of being bow overmatched and unceremoniously citadelled by other ships then you expect......that is why a mass charge disregarding losses is they only way for the low tier team.
-
This is a good representation of what the low tier enemy should be doing. Unless the low tier team behaves like the fools they are in randoms ofcourse, and camp.....giving the few high tier enemies time allowing themselves to be picked off one by one
-
No to be certain of victory everyone in the low tier team charges forward and shoot at everything that is visible. If AP does not work ( to much armour, bouncing angle ) then purifying flames Comrade.... "Not one step back" Stalin. "Up, up and at the enemy" Wellington "We must attack the enemy so close, that we can grab them by their belt buckle !" Col Nguyen Huu "It is magnificent...but it is not war" Pierre Bosquet All these are applicable to the low tier team
-
I must say it was a thrill taking down 3 enemy low tier BB in rapid succession with a Massachussets that had no chance at all - which must have seemed terrible to them - but meanwhile being whittled down by all their allies and ultimately destroyed while the enemy still had 4/5 of their fleet intact...... That is how you win every time as low tier...just take the allied losses, don't be dismayed by your comrades sinking right and left of you and push ! It is the Russian way : Urrah !!!

Recticule of German CV attack aircraft hardly visible
Beastofwar replied to Johnny_Moneto's topic in General Discussion
That was about black FLAK clouds in your face when you about to fire AP rockets into the ships citadel. They deliberatly did that so citadelling planes would not be felt like a scourge. This while an AP rocket does the same damage when "citadelling" as a DD overpenetrating with a tiny AP shell..... -

I have reasearched all these T8 cruisers but i slapped a perma camo only on Amalfi....i guess it's clear which i like best and intend to keep....after initially struggeling with how to play IT SAP cruisers in now love them. Also kept all of them from T5 up. Mogami has the reputation but i had Atago already for a long time.....and in my opinion Atago gives me better results. Mogami is different enough to be candidate to keep though. I do not have Talinn a long time yet. I read the topic "Talinn is supposed to be a beast" and that it has a German hull so i wanted to get it but i am not yet convinced of it qualities. I struggle with RU cruisers. No fan of the torpedoless US Cruisers either but i am getting the hang of shooting over obstacles with them. It's the first time i do that stuff, as i do hate camping. But these ships need to fire over obstacles....it's seems it is what they do. They could very well be all good ships, but very different play style ships, even in the same class of ships. Not uncommon that at all ofc. Not all suit me, but i want to learn their ways so at least in theory i know how they are to be played. ( and countered )

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

"Assasio you are so useless" some "team mate" complained. Such outcomes remind me to always ignore such
