Give New Players a Fun to Play Environment that's free of CVs, subs and seal clubbers
Beastofwar replied to _HomTanks_'s topic in General Discussion
Referring to the historic stubborn and antiquated "aircraft are honorless, battleships are the way naval battles should be fought" way of thinking is no joke. It was a huge mistake then corrected by reaility, and a huge mistake now also corrected by reality : in both cases CV are there and are not going anywhere. And will sink your ships. Great Admirals like Yamamoto were pragmatic about that : better embrace them ( he did so in 1924 ) then being on the receiving end of them only. If there is any helpful advise for newcomers : play CV yourself even if you dislike them. That is the Admiral Yamamoto way. Then you get to learn their flaws and difficulties instead of endless and useless mewling for nerfs that are not needed had you any skill vs CV. The game can only be improved by addiditons....not endless nerfs or even removing stuff. The latter is probably only done to create "scarcity" as thse ships will be in buyable lootboxes nonetheless. -

Every newcomer or anti-cv player should have a deep, long look at this......the discussion we are having is already 80 years old ! And decided long ago.... We are not playing space tetris.....it is based on something, and you will have to follow that. WG obvioulsy does with World of Warships. Btw : there are convinced anti-CV commanders in that movie clip too.....and in Europe up to 1942 many were like that too. No "honor" in aircraft and so on....But after so many warships being sunk by aircraft no one was thinking that by the end of WWII. There were a lot of nations that regretted being late developing aircraft carriers. -
Destroyer IFHE against Cruisers or DE against BB ?
Beastofwar replied to Beastofwar's topic in General Discussion
RDF skilled Cruisers tend to do that, chase DD. Firing on them is not very advisable when you still can escape or allies can whack it off your tail. But there are lots of late match situations those allies are no longer there and/or that enemy Cruiser is not full HP anymore. Then i am looking for the best use of my DD guns, and for clapping BB i have much heavier weapons......flanking oblivious Cruisers with AP i will prefer indeed, in Operation Newport i do little else. But these RDF white livered squids in PvP...... But everything is situational, that is why i doubt every choice.....IFHE or DE or other skills. I am not fully convinced on shaving off 10 seconds out of a 112 second torpedo reload either.....it's not that all these torpedo's will certainly hit and i was gimping my dps waiting for 10 seconds more. -
Destroyer IFHE against Cruisers or DE against BB ?
Beastofwar replied to Beastofwar's topic in General Discussion
But in a DD using guns i assume that Cruiser is hunting me and has evaded (most) torpedo's send on it or torpedo's are on CD having lauched at something else.......of course it will be bow on to my DD guns chasing me. And probably closer then i would like, so missing that bow+superstructure will not be the largest problem. Without IFHE you have far less area to hit chasing Cruisers : only the front facing superstructure but not the bow. And these surfaces is all you can target then. You would say being able to penetrate the bow of a chasing Cruiser too gives you 100 % damageable surface on the shells that don't spash in the water. Without IFHE they would shatter on the bow and only hit frontal superstruture. That would saturate much quicker. I agree when you can hit them in a flank from reasonably close range. That works far better in Operations then in PvP though..... -

Give New Players a Fun to Play Environment that's free of CVs, subs and seal clubbers
Beastofwar replied to _HomTanks_'s topic in General Discussion
I currently have 0 tier IV CV and progressed into tier VI CV i use in Operations exclusively. When i can move on the Tier VIII CV again obviously there is no choice then randoms......that is WG you want to blame for not having Operations and Scenariosn for all tiers.... not me. I just kill reds......Gods, animals demons or men....makes no difference to me. Btw i found some in game footage of how fearsome tier IV planes are ( in a double CV match against a tier VI Riyuo ) -

Did they not ? And this picture can be found in the same place in game also. -

I did a RB reset over 5 lines......one of them DD and one of them Cruiser. Am i being sealclubbed by CV ? Thought not.....these CV are a welcome snack and XP bonus at the end of matches. Almost like in COOP. The truth ofcourse is these tier IV CV are almost harmless being nerfed to kingdome come and giving "chipping damage" a whole new meaning aswell as testing the CV players patience with snail air "speed" taking forever to get somewhere and in the hands of new players are completely harmless.....and are there to let new players get used to them being present in matches and aquire WASD evasive skills toward attacking planes they will need in higher tiers. OP should sail a Langley and try to shake a persuing DD off.......i think he would be enlightened by new expreiences and ashamed at the same time for talking about low tier CV. ( hint : the DD could easily run 3 celebrative circles around that fleeing CV before lauching a torpedos.......just for the heck of it.... ) -
I agree.....it had the signature of testing all over it.......it was hardly well balanced either. And the bot filler function did not work well. Still it was refreshing, educational up to some point ( a lot of lower tier ships weren't so weak at all, and vice versa ) and at times good fun.

If i would have any say in it i would make Subs resemble DD so much that they are almost identical in role : attack on the surface with normal DD torpedo targetting, and only dive to get concealment/evade counter attack. Using the older mechanic of forcing them to the surface after air supply runs out as a game mechanic compromise somewhat resembling the real deal. And that air supply should not instantly replenish either but take a DD torpedo reload of lenght..... To give them good chance of escape ( similair to DD that have concealment compromised by radar/hydro and such ) and do justice to movies/series like Das Boot WG would have to create temperature layers sonar will bounce on so they can be invisible for a while when able to dive deep. Something i did not like at all in the test : it was impossible to not be seen even at the greatest depth. No attacking under periscope depth ( this balances out the apha damage they can do ) no homing torpedos and no relaying position of other ships while submerged.......submerged subs never could use their radio in the first place !! And in both Das Boot 1 and Das Boot 2 it becomes clear what the greatest threat to a submarine is : aircraft ! That are now in game almost powerless against submarines. No guns/cannons to strafe them, no DC and currently subs were under water way too much/all the time. Real WWi and WWII subs were above water almost all the time.....it is only very late war and modern subs that are under water most of the time. One of the best scenes of Das boot......they have wind around their heads when they attack and the diesels are running under full load ! Wind around their heads as Destroyer officers would have on their bridge also when attacking larger ships with torpedo's When i slipped though a gap in enemy lines with a very stealthy DD ( wishing it was a sub lol ) and are approaching oblivious to my precence BB i think of this scene when charging them full speed out of nowhere to increase hit change and disallow them doging, lining up my multiple lauchers to take out at least 2 of them in one attack. "Doppelt shoss auf den dicken...die andere einzelschusse" lol.....exaclty like that.
-
Yeah they gave up....and still not only release brand new mechanic German CV into the game with a full tech tree line and full 2 part release event, but are working on other nations CV as well.... So then it is safe to say they gave up on Submarines too.....following the same line of reasoning....
-
Bah...you get used to it.....i play all CV, Smolenks, Thunderer and i bring ships considered "trash" to ranked or whatever mode too... As this game is for my enjoyment.....not for the whims of WR fanatics or damage racers or whatever ails someone to not enjoy a game as entertainement.
-
I used to calculate like that......and now i was stupid enough to reset tier X lines for RB points being left with only these coals ships.....you are never done in this game. Designed like that....
-
You were there after CV rework release when WG nerfed CV patch after patch after patch after patch......that took quite a lot of adapting from the CV players part.....and the anti-CV players are probably still stuck in that CV lauch situation without realizing that has gone. It is true when they launched CV were overpowered. Was difficult to dislodge them from 1st position scoreboard. But those times have long past, except for maybe the Enterprise which was strangely unaffected by these many global nerfs. I think WG learned from that.......and i also think they were a little too affraid for that with the 1st public submarine player test. They rather felt too weak then too strong, except for their uncanny ability to detect DD and Cruisers in smoke in the caps from afar. This was adressed. And the inability for all classes to defend themselves is being adressed. I have full faith it will become an interesting addition.
-
While true there are probably other targets to pick off........and if the DD makes a good strike your win chance increases, and then the bonusses increase also ( not the credits though ) But using premium time and premium camo's on tech tree CV i might not be in a position to judge all CV players in their position. Still i think it should be avoided......i am a dedicated DD player also. I hate it when CV frustrate a long range difficult torpedo spread that would have connected....

The fun thing about this is not the results per definition..... But the fact mid match a kid came to the door with his chain having dropped off his bicycle.....RL being far more important i realigned his chain, send him off happy with his bycycle running again and washed my chain grease blackend hands.....and returned playing. And the results still weren't all that bad The doubtful thing about playing a game being i considered for a moment not answering the door.....what ?!?! NOT now....arrgh... -
Have you realized yet this new class you fear so much with WG's improvements being implemented now won't be any more problematic then DD right now ? And even far more easily dealt with ? When you are in a BB and face a DD with torpedo's that allow it to launch far outside it's detection range you are doomed. You really need allies to spot and kill it, you will never see it yourself before you sink. Now we replace that with BB facing a Sub......you can detect an attacking sub, launch a DC armed catapult plane and give this sub hell. What is the nightmare or "ruines everything" about that ??? If there weren't any radars or CV you would have another nightmare. I regularly see it when i skip search&destroy enemy DD with AP rocket armed fighters. Yet there is no call to remove DD from the game..... When resisting every change to the game you should wonder if you have become a fossil conservatist. Inflexible, unable to adapt.
-
He is right CV turning targets away from a potential perfect connecting torpedo salvo is a rediculous waste of team effort and a huge drawback for the one torpeoding. Torpedoing other then at close rage is a very difficult skill. Foiling that without thought a vary bad thing. I do dislike a lot of players for being so anti-CV with very poor reasons other then being fossile conservatists that want to keep everything as it is in tier II/III. But i will still try to cooperate with them within limits and not turning targets from torpedos is one of the thing i wil always consider. And it helps me too : a DD salvo IS far more destructive then pathetic CV aerial torpedo's. I will not waste a good allied strike for just a little more personal damage.....that is more the behaviour of toxic damage racers/ stats fanatics.
-
That they do with every new tech tier line that has different mechanics.....so if that is your problem... And besides that why do so many players feel refreshed by playing ranked sprints with very different formats then mass camping long range and burning enemies from a distance that is randoms ? I started playing CV in randoms because then i can ignore that camping and burning crap entirely. Yet in modes where you have freedom to move ( you actually can flank campers and punish them ) i can use all ship types end find enjoyment again.

No...it will only change the game. What you think of that is your personal preference. Stop trying to stop the future. You will never be able to as constant change is part of nature and even the order of the universe...you will adapt or become redundant. And i trust you know what nature does to things that cannot adapt ?

Well there must be a profound difference between Yoshino ( does great with me ) Moskva ( does great with me ) and Puerto Rico ( sinks before half match ) doing exactly the same things in a match. With the Yoshino and Moskva i can 1) get 140+K damages from both AP and HE and 2) Stay alive whole match most of the time and with the Puerto Rico that is both not happening. If it takes damage like a BB that would be a good explanation why it is so fragile with such a high HP pool......some BB are like that too. Mushashi comes to mind..... And Battlecruisers or Supercruisers.....the lines get blurred when Cruisers get BB characteristic's and BB get Cruiser characteristics isn't it ? Especially when that is not exactly advertised.
-
I did find out what goes "wrong" with Puerto Rico though.......it is a great WG joke.....it doesn't only look like a BB..... Taken from LWM review : "A lot of the battleship-style drawbacks with damage over time effects have been inherited by Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico burns like a battleship. A single fire burns for up to 18% of her hit points over 60 seconds. Cruisers burn for half as long, taking only half the damage in total. Puerto Rico floods like a battleship. A single flood will drown 20% of her hit points over 40 seconds. Cruisers flood for half that damage over the same time period. Puerto Rico heals citadel damage like a battleship. She only recovers 10% of citadel damage with her Repair Party as opposed to 33% like most cruisers. This should really emphasize the necessity of investing into what are ostensibly battleship upgrades and skills, like Damage Control Modification 1, Damage Control Modification 2, Basics of Survivability, and Fire Prevention. The one ray of sunshine to mitigating this damage is Puerto Rico's access to a cruiser's Damage Control Party consumable. This has a much shorter reset timer than battleship versions. Properly managed, her consumables can remove the worst of these effects." So skilling it like a Cruiser was not the right thing to do.......i had no idea. But dropping a BB captain in it is easy enough.....i am quite curious that will help improve the piss poor results i got with it while far more fragile Cruisers like Yoshino do excellent with me.
