Is FLAK as useless as claimed....when it is hitting planes attacking other ships ?

Situation for those that like pictures better... -
I must rectify that.... ( secondaries on California in Narai ) Still the Florida beats it in damage and plays much easier. 8 guns in the front.....
-
Yeah i noticed the tight groupings....the only one i saw that do up to now is Massachussets. Wrong ship to give it too though, since it has speed and the guns are better positioned.......the California should have that. Out of the almost 300 k result in Narai my Florida was able to get the secondaries caused 34 k so 11 % which is fair for secondaries i suppose. The California won't get 300 K damage there ever or 34 k secondary damage.....or anywhere else. Because of it's turtle speed. They should give it 10.1 km ( with AFT ) secondaries with Massachussets accuracy to somewhat make up for it. I think everybody wanted/expected a T7 Massachussets out of California because of the gimped main guns.....what we got was a slow pile of junk with somewhat higher AA values......that no one wanted or needs.

It is just a ( failed ) sniper type BB with little armour. 25 km stock range, 49 % fire chance and 68 mm HE penetration. It only has 6 guns that are not very accurate at that range. It may have been pulled because extreme ranged shooting does not work very well, and other uses do not either. One more thing that is strange it has very little continuous AA firepower ( 159 vs 311 of same tier Richellieu ) while its complete sides are covered with small turrets that are too small ( 17 mm penetration ) to be useful secondaries. I was interested because of its 9 x 152 mm and 12 x 100 mm secondaries that can have a reach up to 10.1 km......but reality has sunk in secondaries in this game simply don't work unless the ships own accuracy ( Massachussets/Graf Zeppelin ) says it can be accurate enough to damage anything. They just spray as uselessly with a full secondary build as without any skill in it.

That applies to you when the shiny is a DD with special features too
-
It is the Salem i passed on time and again and again. The island camping style is not my style.....i have to force myself to play like that to play through the US line....... The other coals ships have special features that set them apart. Yoshino has the size of a BB but not the armour and guns of such size BB. It is very vulnerable yet extremely powerful in it's element. Both at long range and very short range ( with use of torpedo's that don't need to be lauched at 20 km ....work perfectly fine at 3 km too ) it can sink the most powerful BB in game. Because is has considerable speed as well, allowing it to flank fast around islands when the enviroment allows for it.

As said, it is worth far more then the hyped pile of junk that California is..... It could easily have gone well above 300k damage if i had not wasted 2 salvo's on the Lex allied turds let escape in the distance ( bounced on the deck ) ....and i shot 0 shells at pinata transports....
-
Yoshino is a very powerful ship though.....both long range in randoms and in ranked maps when surprise flanking enemies with AP and torpedoes......but a glass cannon when you show broadside.
-
Don't isolate yourself......the most disadvantageous position is to be alone where the planes can make pass after pass on you uninterupted. To be alone in a cap is to die in a cap. What you should do for various reasons is have support Cruisers near by. Stay in their outer AA range which is very damaging FLAK explosions. Even ""i can dodge FLAK" artist can't do that if it is fired in their side or back when attacking another ship then where the FLAK comes from. And support Cruisers can help you gun down the enemy DD that also will be in the cap. So not capping alone is good practice. Doing it alone only will work if no one is actively trying to stop you.

I couldn't resist a tier 7 North Carolina ( with smaller guns ) and used her in Narai.....well, it performs far better then California. The speed alone makes it so much better. And i would swear it's secondaries are actually accurate grouping giving the impression they are like those on Massachussets....but need comformation on that. I think having 8 guns up front won't hurt PvP performance either. If so that would make California even more gimped when comparing them. If any ship needs Massachussets secondaries to make up for it's lack of everything, it is that one.

Something did change.....releasing without a full narrowed torpedo reticule i launched the torpedo at ~30 degrees off or more from where my plane was heading......i even saw it tumble in the water at a weird angle......funny enough that hit the evading ship.....the torpedo course was still in the reticule boundaries but it was never released in wild varying RNG angles like this before....

[Poll] Which "Daily Shipment" variant did you get with new WoWs update v0.9.9 ?

They have a rare talent for infuriating loyal customers have they not ? Must be a sign they grew so large they stopped caring.... -
Damage racer teams do not sail at 15 knt but at 30+ knts and clear everything before you can even shoot it. At start that won't be a big problem but half-match you see their smoke on the horizon......you will be hard pressed to shoot anything before it it whacked then. Or the mission ends.... 21 knts is a horrible "speed" at tier VII. edited : ignore that....confused it with Florida...tier IX ships ofcourse cannot sail in Narai.
-
It has light armour and California's "small" guns for tier VII and its turtle mode speed. When you use that in Narai you will see "Victory ! Your team completed the mission" when you managed to cross half the map......no ship in sight ofcourse be it allied or enemy. In PvP it will do even worse......try to get away from a fire shower with that......and 25 mm plating so even IFHE-less 150+ mm-ish Cruisers can penetrate your plating as well as torch you. ( got that from daily bounce article )

FDR is honestly, such a fun, engaging, wholesome edition to the game.

I won't have time.....it touchie poor tier X BB playerbase...bad bad ship ! Would it be strange it gets a Enteriprse treatment being only available at a 0,001 % droprate in gamble boxes so in the end it could have a price tag of 600 euro's ? So it's exteme OPness ( when the CV 'bugs" keeping FDR in check but affecting all CV are removed again ) won't affect the game because of rarity. I am a gamer which spends too much money on hardware and games.....but i did not damage my brain that much yet..... -
So it farms BB...... As DFens righfully remarks : DD have their dedicated anti DD CV types already, Cruisers have their dedicated anti Cruiser CV types already.......so is it strange we now have a dedicated anti-BB farmer CV ? And mindful of their largest ( and whiniest ) by far playerbase as WG is, it is locked behind a steel wall so it will not terrorize the BB playerbase....too much. Except in CB's where WG seems to have a score to settle with some boycotter individuals.....as a choice between prey ( BB ) and hunter ( CV ) will then be a lot easier, in favor of what WG wishes to see.
-
I really ought to check if certain individuals suddenly stop exploiting playing CV ( other then FDR for which this change seems intended ) now.....real players that aren't that scared of an actual challenge won't...

We will see......such ships handed out to guys that damage race to get high WR's to be in top clans in the first place will very likely not make it underperform........and then it will be removed from availability very fast as it will terrorize the playerbase. The only other thing that could happen is that it proves to be flawed after which such guys will not touch it as it will make their sacred WR drop.....unclean...ding dong....unclean...avoid it like the plauge...your WR will fall using it !! -

Nah i noticed EU DD can do some pretty funny things to CV now, as detaching planes are killed returning to CV high in the air .....i am going to enjoy them as long as that lasts... -

And handed out only to guys known for toxic exploiting of game mechanics as it is behind a steel wall no "potato" can reach before it is probably taken out of availability again. So it's extraordinary abilities will be well untilized and probably well over it's intended limits at that..... Wanna make a bet how fast it will be removed ? I think not even 3 months, it is way more toxic then any Smolensk, Slava or Thunderer. Even Enterprise looks innocent compared to that. And that is downwatered because it is piloted by many "potatoes" No such luck with this one.... -
It certainly looks like no coincidence when AA has to deal with masses of aircraft ( FDR ) without actually being buffed in strenght...... Maybe it was hoped we would not notice after detaching from dropping a load returning planes are being "sikritly" clipped at high altitude since you will be busy lining up another attack or already pressed "F" to launch the next squad...... Maybe with masses of FDR aircraft you would not really notice...but since it affects all CV it certainly does......i can imagine the Saipan is deplaned after 3 sorties now......that is noticable....
-
w8..that guy wanted CV nerfed.....why do you want his confirmation when CV do get nerfed and how this was achieved ? "AAAAGHH my stats are vaporizing !!!!" The concealement skill being taken away from CV will not be a "bug".....and when you are not an exploitive damage racer the effects of having to travel a little further or engine boost duration being nerfed will not be catastrophical. Neither will be taking plane regenerative modules instead of concealement ones to offset the "bug" effects.

Well my full HP CV was suddenly destroyed during a rocket salvo.......outraged i complained about insanely OP rockets in chat when someone opted : were you not taking a ship gun salvo ? And this guy was exactly right.....it just hit me at the exact moment so it looked like insane OP rockets......that only did a measly 12k as they should....the heavy main gun AP salvo that i did not see did the sudden destroying.......- 89 replies

I saw my planes that had dropped their torpedoes being destroyed high in the air when returning to CV and come tumbeling down burning and with long corkscrew smoke trials......previously they were immune to damage after dropping and just pulled up to high altitude. So typically almost all your planes that are attacking get destroyed now. There was an advice ( on NA forums ) you have no choice but to shorten your squadron. Which is a bit rediculous as spending munitions cost you credits, and there is no score return for it. With such changes making that mandatory they should allow you to shorten squadrons at takeoff or without dropping munitions/credits. Taking concealment on a CV is increasingly stupid now : you won't be able to regenerate the increased losses fast enough so will likely be deplaned when (continuous) AA is perticularly stiff in some matches, and when the skill rework hits you won't have that concealment skill for CV at all as that is removed from the class.
