Two more interesting things about Ise. I got these from LWM review and checked them in game. 1) 210 knot planes until the take off rockets are depleted and jettisoned. That means these planes can be on an enemy ship that is kilometers away in mere seconds. This makes them different from CV planes. I missed this because i ussually want to preserve engine boost to attack ships through FLAK explosions when in CV planes. But with the take off assist rockets still active engine boost does boost even more so it becomes a feature. 2) 21,4 km guns...it has more gun range then Kongo or Fuso. ( but without spotter plane ) And sigma 2.0 ( according to the LWM review ) Missed that too and still fought too close to enemies in my first matches.....it really can (must) be way back and rely on it's guns for the higest damage. In that regard using the planes too much is a bit of a "noob trap" as you lower your damage sitting in them and fly far distances, or get your ship too close to enemies for shorter plane travel time and be easily destroyed. Ise has no CV auto flood/fire control ! So you are dealing with a Kongo-like long range sniper BB, with utility torpedo planes that can spot DD and strike ships ( campers ) behind islands.
-
LWM dropped a clue for you.....as did i earlier because a Cruiser actually did that to me as i discovered ( the flight deck blocks the guns ) i could not fire at it at all while it persued me, not even when angeling toward it untill i was almost completly broadside : "If you encounter Ise, forcing her into a brawl is a smart play. Her secondaries are of little threat and between her wonky citadel protection and horrible fire arcs, she's highly vulnerable. Ise belongs back on the second line, not up front"
-
I would suggest all interested in ISE read the LWM review on NA forums. It is 100 % on the spot. She too concludes that using the torpedo planes 10 x 2767 ( = ~ 27 k ) potential damage LOWERS your damage as you could have done much more damage with 8 x 10200 AP ( = ~ 81 k ) potential damage. Despite the Ise can hit enemies behind islands now and then which it's guns cannot reach. That is really not the problem. The real problem is that when CV are not in match there can be 1 sided spotting by Ise as Ise are not mirrored by MM as CV are. And that is far more damaging then a few low damage torpedo's that can't even hit a broadside stationary Fuso with all torpedo's. So WG needs to adjust the MM to mirror plane carriers that are not CV. If i recall correct they are not prepared to do that yet.

Does this answer your question ? Some single DD caliber shells hit harder then these individual torpedo's. Certainly when ( PvP ) targets elected to have additional torpedo protection skill. I think it will be just like any other 8 x 356 mm ( or comparible ) BB. With an option to hit stuff that is behind islands that you can't hit with guns. It is the same for PvP really. Use the planes to often and your damage goes down, as the main guns simply dish out multiple times that.... I don't think i will lauch a lot of planes in Operations. But is an option you can always use.
-
All true but the cherry on top of the cake - wanted by masses of players - would be having the option to "transform" German Heavy Cruisers into "pocket Battleships" and for that you don't need torpedo capt skills but secondary battery capt skills. Top grade gunner, Outnumbered, Adrnailne Rush and Survivability Expert are surely servicable....but not it. Not when comparing the skill tree of battleships. I think the torpedo skills are unnecessary for most Cruisers. WG would know if they are chosen at all. Afterall human players are not Operations or Coop Cruiser bots. These lauch torpedo\s all the time, but they also live for seconds, and for the good part for being that close to enemies.

14 ships that launch attack squads.....

You are right...where is the "kill 300 planes" ( prefrably dockyard completing ) directive now ? -
What CV line to pick? Any good premium CVs?
Beastofwar replied to seXikanac's topic in General Discussion
I agree to the part where you are probably best off playing the tech tree ones 1st. These are most player friendly and at least equally powerful as Premiums that are still available. When you would buy : Kaga : very strong torpedo damage and large squadrons but it will frustrate you as the planes are made of rice paper. As new and learning player you will be deplaned. Saipan : very strong planes but very few of them. As new and learning player you will be deplaned in the beginning- mid part of the match. Idomitable : very strong planes but very few of them. As new and learning player you will be deplaned in the beginning-mid part of the match. You also need to be mindful of deck armour of ships to do good damage. Graf Zeppelin : fast but fragile planes, not good at anything in particulair ( since AP bomb nerfs ) but a powerfull hull that can do funny things in rare temporary game modes. As a new and learning player...yeah you guessed it.. When you reach the stage deplaning does not happen anymore above CV are enjoyable. Ark Royal comes to mind as a Tier VI that gives strong damage and has durable planes, but the planes are very slow. So slow it will be hard to get deplaned. An example tech tree CV are not per definition weaker or stronger. My most played CV in red square. -
I can agree to the fact WG failed to put attractive skills in the Cruiser skill tree. +1 % fire damage ? "light house" build in exchange for + damage ?? Outnumbered ??? 3 x torpedo skills ????? What kind of choices are that ? What Cruiser can operate so near enemy ships it can use outnumbered and torpedoes as viable choices that always or at least often work ?? In operations that could work...but WG themselves are not interested in that. And the main modes are PvP. The AA skills work for DFAA equipped Cruisers.....but in higher tiers there are many matches without CV in them. When players like me ( that are convinced they are useful ) don't even use these skills, they there is a problem with the skill tree. Secondary skills removed all together...while this is what ( German Cruiser ) players want for their Cruisers with lots of secondary guns ! WG we want to be able to create "pocket battleships" as IRL. I do sometimes think i do not understand what WG intends with some skills ( Ounnumbered for example ) and i like to fight up close and personal...but not with most types of Cruisers and if so, not with 3 x torpedo skills but no secondary skills ! I do not understand the undertone of fighting closer range ( multiple skills ) while additional survivability options ( more/better then Superintendend and Survivability Expert ) are missing to pull that off. A lot of Cruisers under tier VIII do not even have a heal ! And lastly i do rather think Cruisers in general want more Concealment then they they like to give that up for damage. If i were in charge ( lol ) i would made these main build choices : - Optimized for DD killing ( very stealthy, skill options to disengage more succesful ) - Optimized for AA ( while retaining good anti surface fighting power ) - Optimized as "Pocket Battleship" ( full secondary skills like BB and increased durabiity/survivability ) - Optimized as kiters ( buffs to agility, accuracy and durability ) Some are already possible with existing skills, most are not.

WG would have been broke if that was their buisiness model.

WORLD OF WARSHIPS...not world of Battleships, or World or Cruisers or World of Destroyers.... Ever even looked at the intro ? And i don't think you had the pleasure of facing picture 2 in game yet....... This game obviously tries to mirror historic naval developments IRL. Many warships were sunk by aviation, or they were involved in it. And WG balances it to such extend you can use a Yamato without having to suffer being hit as it was IRL....by ~ 300 aircraft ! And what is the use of ( high tier ) ships covered from bow to stern with AA guns if there were to be no planes ?? You can have what you want though : under tier 3 there are no CV.

BTD's ( Saipan, Sanzang, Midway ) could.....FDR's Skypirates could. Specifications (BTD-1) Data from Jane's all the World's Aircraft 1947,[9] Dave's Warbirds:Douglas BTD Destroyer[10] Armament Bombs: Up to 3,200 lb (1,500 kg) of bombs in the bomb bay or two 1,947 lb (883 kg) Torpedoes Specifications (XTB2D-1 Skypirate) Data from McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Since 1920;[5]Douglas XTB2D-1 Skypirate[6] Armament Bombs: Up to 8,400 lb (3,800 kg)) of bombs or four torpedoes But the Seiran is not listed as such. ( 1 x type 91 ) But in the wiki there is mention of all kinds of experimental take off methods that could have led to something WG is using here. As the take off is rocket assisted and the torpedo's are of a very light type ( very low damage ) Also the game mentions type 5 torpedo's. As these seem to have been 230 kilo's they in theory could have been carried instead of 2 x 250 kg bombs. Specifications (M6A1) Data from Japanese Aircraft of the Pacific War,[13] Aichi M6A1 Seiran[24] Armament Bombs: 1× Type 91 torpedo or 2× 250 kg (551 lb) or 1× 850 kg (1,874 lb) bombs 28 cm (11") Type 5 (1945) Ship Class Used On Small MTBs Date Of Design 1945 Date In Service Not in service Weight 507 lbs. Not sure of that yet......Skypirates were extreme size 1 engine bombers that laughed about the payload of 4 engined bombers of the time. To lesser extend the BTD bombers too, IRL giant planes. Then again they didn't have to fly as high altitude and far as these 4 engined bombers. Catapult planes carrying 2 torpedo's seems unlikely but there are 2 things you should take into consideration here : - The ISE catapult planes are rocket take off assited (!) - These ISE torpedos cause rediculous low damage per torpedo. So it could easily be these are just low weight arial torpedo's and the planes can be over their normal take off weight due to the rocket take off asist.

I did in January as i was just in transition from all tier VIII tech tree ships to all IX tech tree ships so got loads of steel. And i whaled Hizen early for another load of steel. So i didn't pay for Hizen, i payed to get FDR. That said, Hizen turns out to be not a bad ship at all. Puerto Rico neither. Nor Odin. It is only Anchorage that did not convince me yet, but i admit being a poor (light) Cruiser player. I rarely see it in game as well. ZF-6 i am not sure of.....still in the learning curve of when to use AP and such....

I now join the top echelons in the top 25% of the ranked bell curve
Beastofwar replied to ___V_E_N_O_M___'s topic in General Discussion
Well done. I am halted for days at 3rd and 4th rank silver league and i may well never reach Gold ( although i did reach it season 1 ) So i KNOW this is not easy to achieve. -
It does resemble FDR somewhat : it likes to hit sitting duck campers with no ( foreward ) speed ( so they can't evade anything ) which are often found behind islands. Playing more i came to realize the torpedo's are very slow, very low damage per torpedo and are probably meant to hit sitting duck campers with a full wave of torpedo's specifically. That is probably why the damage of WASD using ships in open water rather low : individual torpedo's barely do damage. And WASD using players with foreward speed are obvilously not the ones that are punished by CV and Hybrids.
-
I don't think this will change after a few weeks......and besides that, i expect more hybrids to come to the game. No, the enhanced AA choices in the build are fine as enhancing strong points of a ship is sensible and this one packs serious AA for the tier....it is rather the other stuff that may yet be interchangable if it actually pays off.
-
Still learning...but doing better in damage already. Enemies already learned you don't want this ship at range......like other ( camper ) ranged BB it is unsuitable for being pressed in close quarters combat. That is what killed me here. Note how the "horrible torpedo planes" barely contributed to the damage score....i can imagine when you fight closer the torpedo score goes up, but your main gun score goes down ( cant shoot main guns sitting in planes ) and you probably live a lot shorter. I was hindered A LOT by not being able to fire rearward into a persuing Cruiser, and it took almost turning to full boradside before i could fire guns again. It really has it's downsides too....

Are you sure ?

It is a strange ship so prolly needs a strange build....i came up with this as it seems to buff it's strong points. - it has no secondaries to speak of so those skills have no use - i wont be at the front line with it ( no secondary skills ) ( have taken concealment skill ) so i wont be on fire all the time CV or other ISE might want to take it out so - torpedo protection - repair skills - as strong AA as it can have. ( which is already strong ) - Concealmeant as i have to leave the ship in uncontrolled state often. Thoughts on this ? btw : isnt it strange that no BB skills actually buff the main guns - a BB's primary weapon ? Except for the very doubful heavy AP that will turn you into a jerry can. I could echange it for torpedo protection but it is very hazardous as you dont have a CV's auto-extinghuiser when you are in the planes !
-
Compared to other Tier VI BB ( except Andrea Doria* ) is has extremely good stock AA values. ( double, or even more then double continuous AA and double the 2-3 FLAK explosions that is normal at this tier ) * Probably compensation because all the 90 mm are not really secondaries with their 15 mm pen/ 18 mm pen ( IFHE ) but AA guns. Can even go up to this.....7 FLAK explosions at tier VI.....low-mid tier CV players still in a learning curve are not going to think this ship is a yummi snack....also good vs other ISE players that think you are. Compared to Mutsu...
-
I didnt even see this until now... AA rockets like Hood ?
-
Nice one... My damage is rising too after getting used to it. It is neither a real BB nor a real CV. Adapting is part of the game isn't it ?
-
No these are NOT the same as CV planes and do NOT benefit from any CV mechanics, captain skill buffs, cannot use plane consumables. They are just a ship consumable ( 1:30 min CD after returning to ship ) which only resemblence to CV planes is you must sit in them to control them. They do however have no limited range or flight timer.
-
It really does suck vs DD too.....all my full secondary BB can kill a visible close range DD by using main guns and secondary guns very fast. ( altough before it lauched torpedo's is always a hairy thing ) Due to all the missing 140 mm's this ISE really can't do that. I tried and other ships killed these DD first, showing a dangerous lack in DPM vs small targets. Wich is to be expected with only a few less accurate 127 mm that are actually FLAK guns. Planes are not usable for that either.

Somewhat strange request but ok... It is beautiful and it is different. The rocket assisted take off and rocket jettison are a joy to first experience. I am very happy WG is into refreshing the game with such stuff !
