But it won't mean you get to kill all the aircraft if they remove "F", it will probably just be harder to damage and shoot down returning aircraft as compensation.....will you be happier then ?
-
I like the update better and better the more i get used to it. That is in ALL classes of ships, including DD. You are forced to adapt, think again on your tactics. I have seen skilled players adapting to the new situation : a skilled DD player outturned my rocket fighters every attempted pass despite me slowing my aircraft down to tighten the turns. Could not hit him several times and decide to "F" to avoid my squadron shot to being pieces by his continous AA damage. I like this. It is very refreshing. Then again i never cared for winrates and such sh*t so adapting to new tactics doesn't hurt me. I play to have fun.

But it is directly controllable. You are in direct control unless you select a number ( that all correspond with aircraft groups now ) Also when you press F you are in direct control of your CV. The change is you don't press "1" anymore but "F" compared to RTS CV play. You can speed up or slow down and manouevre with it like you used to. Sink enemies that have only few hitpoints left with secondary guns of even ram them. ( bots/scenario's were good for that ) Direct control is very nescesary if DD have sneaked through and pop up nearby meaning to sink you. When in autopilot you are very vulnerable unless speeding away from them. If the CV becomes aware of the DD sneaking up on them, sailing away at top speed and launching rocket fighters again and agian CV sure are more dangerous then the old RTS CV were.....maybe that is worth complaing too, as it impacts how powerful DD were. It only bothers me when playing DD :-))

I agree too...for once Coop is actually much harder then PvP, if you use a CV after the update. ( unless at tier 4 i suppose since a lot of ships have weak or even no AA ) And rewards far less, to the point every game in a CV is costing me credits in Coop while in PvP it's gushing credits. I did like Coop but the low rewards turned me away from it. Unless i need 500 hits with secondary guns or something. Bots are always good for that......

^^ This. There will never be an end to it. I dislike torpedo walls, unless its me laying them. I dislike devasting strike salvo's unless delivered by me. I dislike aircraft falling upon me unless they are mine doing it to someone else..... Come on....how boring the game would be if you were always obliterating everyone but be invulneralbel yourself. Such games are for the youngest among us. Age2+ Oh, and you (OP) cannot speak for me. I do like the update, more and more as it get adapted to it. Even when controlling other classes then CV, damaging and killing aircraft nets you XP and credits ( lots of ribbons ) also, didn't you notice ? And as a frequent CV player i know when in other ships aircraft actually do very little damage. More so when compared to the old RTS system with 2 torpedo walls coming at you from opposing sides........ Will you (OP) complain again when WG introduces submarines ? There will be no end to it...so good if WG chooses to ignore this.

In the matches that i have played CV i was many times hunted by DD that sneaked through. If your suggestion were to be implemented CV would be executed by DD wthout knowing where it is before being hit by torpedo's . I'm sure that would be ok with you, but CV have become much more vulnerable already beacuse the players are in their aircraft, cant be in their ship at the same time.
-
The presented solution is of a problem that is NOT new. CV fighters were always able to spot DD and keep them spotted, racking up damage score other ships do to them. Smoke the only escape ( or a nearby AA specced CC/CL ) just as it remains now. The only change is those fighters can actually attack shipping now, but with very light strikes. I think it's comparable to overpenetrating AP shots, you can only kill if the DD has only a few hitpoints left being shot by other ships. Other then that it's pretty obvious you need to silence your AA while in smoke, or rockets will be fired on where the tracers are coming from..... Want to succesfully cap not being herassed by aircraft or other DD ? Have an AA specced CC/CL cover you....not new either. Theseare support ships, it's their purpose to do that.
-
I really had to work hard for presented results, as you can see with the amount of ribbons, still didn't do a lot of damage and still lost the match. The two sinkings were dead already from allied ship attacks, just hit the last remaning health points. There are no overpowered CV's. And this while the enemy did not stay together and gave me ample oppertunity to make pass after pass on them. In maches where the enemy is smarter and actually uses all options available to them i get NEGATIVE credits !

I agree atm there are too many CV in matches. But WG ofcourse have to deal with thousands of players that want to experience the reworked CV's. Should they be kept in waiting queue's for 5 minutes ore more ? Especially if they return from not playing the game for some time ? Think of this through WG eyes....returning players are more potential paying customers.... This is probably the least evil WG could decide on. But be assured, you KNOW that after the first week there will be less CV players and everyone and WG knows this. Probably they have some confidence they will not lose too many players over those they can gain. Especially if it is true they did this to make the game more suitable for console control. CV are far from overpowerd, and you have to work MUCH HARDER to get a decent XP and credit return for it. Suck and lose credits big time. This alone will drive non dedicated players off. You will enjoy a more reasonable balance soon enough.

The only problem i encounter is that as CV you are comletely powerless if enemies DO group up in at least 3 ships and stay close together. They are virtually immune to air attack then. More and more players in game seem to realize that, and use it. I see this happening, and i lose complete squadrons in a single wall of flak explosion far before the attack run can begin. And that while there is much complaing AA is too weak !!! I take it WG will keep stats on damage and effectiveness, and will finetune any unintended effects so im not too worried. But my performance varies extremely, i cant say CV are underpowerd because i can rack up good XP and credits, but with smart enemies that stay together in groups i experience complete ineffectiveness. And high negative credits.

I get the impression the CV fighter consumable is poorly understood, or if not poorly used and as far as i am concerend poorly of not explained clear enough by WG either. Only after hours of playing - being destracted by the intense control of my aircraft - i understand i can rescue frienly ships coming under attack by that. It replaces ordering your fighters to intercept in the RTS way. Good for me and those i can protect strenghtening their AA they think is too weak ( its not ) but i only see CV players increasingly using it this way recently. Maybe like me they were too busy with aircraft attack with direct controls. Maybe you should have explained it better, even in the tooltip better reaching those that do not watch your video's and news. It could have contributed preventing the strong resentment of your CV rework to some extend. I have no doubt those continue playing CV will use it but there will always be CV players that have no clue, just like i did in the beginning. Making other players angry about CV gameplay what seems unessesary if all features are used right. Could you better explain AA defenses and specificwhat CV can do protecting allies in that same video or news too ?
-
Did you guys actually fly aircraft in said nerfed AA at all ?? On the one hand i lose squadrons of 6 aircraft in a single explosion so far as 4 km from target. That can't be called weak AA. On the other hand since the patch i did not lose ships to aircraft, and previously i certainly did due to torpedo walls that are now no longer exist from aircraft. Still you complain.
-
In the previous RTS mechanic i send out fighters to find and spot DD too......these fighters could remain over a DD nonstop until destroyed ( DD have weak AA so that could take a very long time ) or being needed for a more important matter. Japanese CV got 2-3 fighter squadrons so there was always capacity to find and spot DD. You even get rewarded for damage other ships do upon spotting. Much better use then wasting them on fighter to fighter duels, with premium CV fighters having cheating advantages in strafing mechanics.... Current rocket fighters find DD, spot them, attack them and do minor damage and fly away. DD slips back in stealth. I think you are better off this way, since you get more pause to slip back into stealth then in the old situation, but don't even recognise this. Your judgement is clouded by having to deal with unnatural amount of CV players. If that happend with the old RTS mechanic you would be complaining too being spotted with no pause. But it is expected CV use will quiet down again. Maybe then you see te advantages.

ok lets have it! do you simply want a new playerbase?
Beastofwar replied to Oopsidaisi's topic in Archive
I have been around for 3 years in this game, play all classes and most nations, have bought some premium ships i liked and i experience no game breaking changes. I experience refreshing changes :-))) I would welcome submaries too. I read a lot about WWII sea battles, saw it in museums and wish for all warmachinery that fought sea battles IRL to be present in future. And i would probably not play the game if it remained unchanged and just some BB and CC/CL lobbing shells at each other, and DD sneaking up on them. So much more to experience, while you can still lob shells at each other and sneak up to them. -
To return to the original question : I had a match where all enemy ships remained close together. As a CV player i could do nothing to them and they knew it. Just because i could not do nothing the whole match i tried go around, attack some BB in the back but my full squadron exploded simultinously some 4 km from target. Again and again untill from any direction i tried attacking. In the end i had too few planes to do anything. So there is the immunity you seek. There is your counter. Stay together with several other ships and your combined AA is so powerfull no aircraft can come near and live. Whole squadrons are 1 shotted kilometers from target. Too bad if that is not good enough for some, that want to be Rambo and expect to deal with aircraft all alone. If caught alone far from allied AA you will receive damage by aircraft. I have played all ship types after the update, and did not experrience significant amounts of damage from aircraft. After some time i didnt even bother with setting sectors anymore. I can't agree CV OP or AA too weak. Probably the other way around, but probably not per individual ship. WG has the stats on whats going on. I expect them to tweak untill there is a good balance. Whatever that may be.

I wonder about what is the cause that since yesterday the torpedo spread of my torpedo bombers has become rediculously wide. You can't aim this way, torpedo's go everywere from 45 degrees left to right. In the RTS system something like that happend if your pilots panicked because under attack by fighters. But i don't see that now, certainly not every attack. Maybe they do this because of overwhelming AA fire too ? Is it too high airspeed ? Or is it a panicked WG nerf because of the massive negative sentiment ? I have captain points in aiming and buffed the torp bombers with ship upgrades. While i am somewhat positive about the changes, i do feel CV do little damage ( weaken the team with that ) but strange enough rack up considerable XP and credits with that. This seemed to have changed too since i started playing yesterday. I would rather have torpedo's do less damage then going everywhere in rediculous angles. Or is it something i am not aware of ? When i started playing the new CV mechanic aiming was much better.....

This is true.....in a book about WWII warships i read that many had so much damage from near miss explosions they had to go back to drydock or at least retreat for repairs in a safe anchorage.

I can see most players that complain a lot havent actually played CV themselves. 1) CV do very little damage. It is very hard and takes multiple squadron flights, with multiple attack runs each to sink a full health ship. Ofcourse, most of the time the squadron is killed during or after 1 pass. Only DD endure multiple passes due to their weak AA but rockets do very little damage. So you wont get sunk by a CV on it's own, unless seriously unlucky. There arent frequent devastating strikes anymore coming from CV. So CV were actually NERFED as previously they could sink you in 1 attack. 2) You only explode in your BB if you were already seriously damaged. It is likely other ships did most damage to you that led to your sinking. 3) Being escorted by an AA ship or giving an escort as an AA ship to another ship makes you almost immune to CV aircraft. They just turn into fireballs. You are only relentlessly attacked if on your own and vulnerable. But not only from aircraft, as stealth DD like that too. Even BB and Cruisers concentrate fire on you in such a position. 4) Many DD still manage to break/sneak through and attack CV that are more vulnerable now since you cannot control you aircraft and the CV at the same time anymore. Those players are not complaining, they have skill and simply kill CV. 5) Many cruisers and BB break through and go for the CV's If these did not flee ( typically being destracted by 1st person control of aircraft ) they are killed by long range fire. 6) Rocket fighters wil not remain spotting over DD without limit. They fly off when munitions are spent. In the old system fighters could be positioned over you and stayed there untill destroyed. So you are not spotted longer or more often then in the old situation. maybe there are temporary more CV then you like.....but that will normalise. 7) If a CV loses a lot of aircraft fast it is handicapped by squadrons with 0-3 planes per squadron. CV can launch them but they will be destroyed before doing anything. They will restore over time to full squadrons, but untill then CV is powerless. Know that whats drives players wild with this pass is not that CV are overpowered, They were nerfed. But what did change is there are more aircraft in the air herassing everyone with light strikes. Read that again : light strikes. You have a lot less to worry about then in the old RTS system where you could be blown up full health from a single strike by 2 squadronds simultaniously by one CV player. You can almost ignore aircraft altogether, your AA is automatic and you dont even have to use AA sectors to shoota lot of them down. In short : WG didnt throw rediculously OP ships in the game to troll all. Complaining players have yet to discover the balancing factors.

Torpedo spread rediculous wide, torps go everywhere
Beastofwar replied to Beastofwar's topic in Archive
I didn't need explanation how to attack, with the other CV torpedo planes everything is fine. It is specifically the Lexington's torpedo bombers that have a rediculous wide spread while you launch only 2 torpedo's that go off in wild angles. Sometimes that unintended torpdo direction even strikes because of wild ship evading, but i don't like gambling i like aiming. I tried all sorts of captain point switches and ship upgrades, but it seems a Lexington thing.... -

It seems to be a Lexington thing. Probably the torps are more powerful and WG wants us to not hit most of the time. I guess.... -

No i'm using the Lexington and Ryujo. -
In a few weeks you will not see CV more often then you did before. They are pretty hard to have a good XP and credits income with due to appalling low damage they can inflict and this will drive the curious masses away from them. I'm sure a few matches with te leftover capable CV players is not too much for you to handle. No reason at all to demand refunds. Just stay close to another ship or ships and CV's will prove to be very ineffective against you. You are mainly focus of unrelenting air atack if you were stupid enough to be alone far from friendly AA cover. Then you deserve to sink, if the DD won't ambush you in such a position, enemy BB won't execute you, the CV will.

That isn't right......returning warplanes with ammo left regularly attacked shipping but also Destroyers, surfaced Submarines and even Cruisers by making strafing passes on them. Not only fighters and attackers, even medium and sometimes heavy bombers did this. Some heavy bombers were marine patrol bombers made specially suited for this. Strafing will often not sink the ship, but wreck deck mounted machinery and kill a lot of deck personell. Often enough to send it back for repairs and refit thus taking it out of action for some time. Also if you play aircraft games you will have noticed there were quite some amount of landbased specialized cannon armed attack planes meant to sink ships. These regularly attacked DD's and torpedo boats they stumbled upon, notably often around small islands. The "other" game build their gameplay around that. If you want historical accuracy, prepare for machinegun and cannon strafing by aircraft, aswell as them dropping sea mines. Several large ships were attacked by heavy bomber formations...wanna see them in game ? I will not even begin about primitive guided anti ship missiles and bombs. That have actually sunk ships in WWII. The Roma was sunk by a Fritz X....

That is why you need to focus on ships that strayed from the others and are vulnerable. Then you will be able to survive multiple passes eventually doing the same damage as a single attack with a whole squadron like it was in RTS style. Using the speed booster ability when coming under fire helps to close in faster too i noticed. With the new AA mechanic long range guns seem to be the most damaging ones that stop firing when you get closer, to be taken over by lighter guns that do less damage. No use attacking clustered ships, you will just die in a fireball. DD are often ahead and alone, perfect to attack with rockets begin match. They will be spotted by allies too. ( and you get credits/XP when they hit home on your spotted tarrget too ) When the enemies get more scattered you can hunt the vulnerable ones with torps or bombs. I would advise to still stay clear of AA cruisers, no matter what upset players say. These proved to be VERY dangerous still. With unlimited aircraft you can be effective up untill the end, you have time to pick targets carefully. Move your CV out of harms way in time with the autopilot and plotting map. Not a fan of that, and automated defenses/repair but it works more or less. Not sure what to make of the fighter consumable that seems to drop at some point behind you when released. They shot a few planes, have yet to figure out if it can be used better. Invest in captain skills and ship upgrades that make your planes have better survivability. If they live longer its equal to having more oppertunity to do more damage....
-
This is not true from my point of view as a satisfied CV player.....i still get my [edited]handed to me when approaching a (AA) cruiser, rarely live to launch or drop ordenance on it. Even if they are alone ! On the other hand i have been chopping lone BB up all day. Why ? Because i live long enough for multiple passes and can use torpedo's like some sort of short range cruise missiles. Hunting DD at match start is good fun too, though the damage i do on them with rockets is very low. If they get blown up it is surely allied ships firing on it since it i broke it's stealth. But that is not new, did that in previous RTS mechanics with fighters too, and i did hunt DD with divebombers that often missed, doing equal low damage. It's more the constant herassment that probably drives players wild. Not the damage that is done to them by planes directly. CV were very much damage nerfed, still i like the new ways. Even on the receiving end, i play all classes. See it on the positive side : no more crossfired minefields of 10-12 torpedo's from 2 torp bomber squadrons simultaniously you can't escape and kill you while in full health ! I very much doubt a CV can 1 shot kill you now so if you look at the patch without a haze of rage, you will notice CV have become all but OP.....but they do herass you. Giving AA more to do.
