Here you have your answer regarding CV REEEwork. It is of balans and you shall deal with it one way or another.

Alaska is much better pick overall than Azuma and Smolensk would be better coal investment as well.

Italian cruisers are intentionally that bad?

This. Same story with Ayyygle and Le Trollible and their silver equivalents to keep "p2w" factor in acceptable parameters -

inb4 she gets one Smolensk per broadside as secondary with Massa/Georgia base dispersion and 10km base range. -

...yet On other hand, number of these ships pose balancing issues as either they are basically copies of existing ships or you can't really fit them into the game without being broken one way or another. Former wouldn't be so bad, but relative fiasco of Prinz Eugen fortified Wargaming into Way of the Gimmick. Latter - how you would differentiate Akagi from Kaga? Put both as tier 8 "quantity over quality" carriers? Or give her some harry potter tier "what if" refit with Akagi having some late-war planes as "IJN Saipan" equvalent, something you could easily work into with Taiho, Unryu or Hiyou as more fitting "late war" designs. Early version with multiple decks could make it to tier 6, but then WG already have Ark there as "chaff tier" premium CV. Derfflingers - either hilariously weak tier 4-5 BB or hilariously weak CB at tier 6-7, even more so as Scharnhorst is in game. Repair and Refit? Same issue, either mediocre tier 5-6 BB or underpowered tier 8-9 CB unless you smack them with buff stick. Repeatedly. Over the head Dido at tier 7 would be straight up inferior to Atlantas we have already. At tier 6 they could work, but again, why WG would want to create lowtier junk when they can spend the same worktime on tier 8+ content they can monetize so much harder upon? -
Skill is basically AA downgrade on ships with more-than-literal-no-AA and then whole sector thingy can backfire at you on battleships as planes can fly over you and enter weakened side and then spend some time there

There is NO single ship that will make you CV immune, so "deal with it" might be the answer you do not seek, but you will receive.

Randoms, either in tonks, boats and planus always were about battle of ineptitude - team with more of it wins defeat
-
And have patience, as randoms will surely test if you have a lot of it
-
Maybe WG went with "Souls" approach, where you get smacked with old fish as your welcoming gift
-
Well... it appears that the "Hosho" will be nerfed soon...

Just press return key (F) immediately after the drop and notice speed difference of returning planes (provided squad icon doesn't bug out) -
On the contrary, 0.8.9 seems to fixed delayed exit on my end, as before I could spend up to 30s in game doing random stuff after "quitting"

tier 8 is basically Benson with C hull. You know, THE hull no one takes, even more so since REEEwork and overall AA neutering. Tier 9 is literally Fletcher but with worse gun and torpedo reload, so while serviceable in her own right, why you would want to play her when Fletcher proper is still a thing.

Not quite the best picks, personally I'd replace Demo Expert with Survivability Expert for more hp/plane. Torpedo acceleration backfires at you by increasing torpedo arming distance, as its function of torpedo arming time and torpedo speed CE is usually best, or rather "least useless" pick on CV, bigger question whether you would want Concealment upgrade over Flight Control Mod, which shortens a bit plane replacement times and adds flat +2 to deck reserves. On USN its optional I find, IJN can benefit more from maxing out camo due to 7.5km base TB spot distance. I guess @El2aZeR can chime some details in Basically use whatever you're most comfortable with. Tier 4 CVs almost universally are torpedo oriented. If anything, I'd abstain from Demo Expert due to minimal and still RNG based bonus, which then goes down as you go with tiers up - tier 10 ships have 50% fire chance reduction, so 1% bonus for rockets means 0.5%. Is it worth three points? You can tap W, to get some extra speed, while not bleeding as much of Engine Boost when moving across the map. You'd want to go full boost when entering AA to reduce time spent within AA. Also you want to go full boost as you drop ordnance, so you can carry out accelerated bailout at even higher speed when attacking more than one ship. I'd go with spending some time to get at least acceptable accuracy for ordnance used - rockets require fluckton of time to be fully zeroed in, bombs aim quickly enough IMO, same with torpedo bombers with exception of Midway TB. Also know your targets - Texas in question you can significantly demolish with rockets (and most AA along the way) because glorious all-or-nothing armor scheme

ratatata pew pew noises you might hear in game

Sims or Kidd, both being solid cap contesters, also full captain compatibility with Benson and next ships in the line. Sims can see some use in Narai, tier 7 PvE Operation, but its... suboptimal pick most of the time. Kidd have no PvE luxury, but should be more than able to handle herself even when uptiered. I wouldn't rely on AA tho
-
More PvE operations, but without limited ship selection. If WG wants to "encourage" players to use specific ships, running repeatable challenge giving x bonuses alongside scenario would work just fine. Also grow up a balls and include premiums into balancing routine, instead "we don't nerf premiums unless its global change" BS
-
Then why get there in first place?
-
Captains end their leveling at 19 points. BUT, any exp gathered with maxed out captains goes into "elite exp" pool, which then can be used to level up or finish retraining of other captains

Have new T9 super cruisers put the old ones out to pasture?

American AP don't deal more damage on overpens than HE on saturated areas like superstructure. Also German HE still retain 51mm compared to 33mm of other 203mm guns. -
