    ARP Nachi. WG please!

Well, after playing some Russian ships, I can honestly say that anyone that overly chase this mission do not deserve it. I've been focus fired by everyone and their grandmother, even battleships at max range and my karma has also dropped five points (not that it really matters, but it highlights the extreme silliness) due to salty players. Getting yolo'ed got old really fast as well. As such, I can't be bothered with it any longer and will be playing other ships. It's just isn't fun playing Russian ships at the moment. EDIT: After letting the saltiness and frustration run out of my system, I believe I may have overreacted somewhat. Thank you forums, for letting me vent occasionally . (Also, sorry for the bitterness )

    New Sub-Forum Please

Don't we already have a "Game Guides" subsection tough (with both general and ship-specific sections)?
  3. Nice poll, but you should have added "I do not run a premium account" and "I always run a premium account". Other than that, it's fun to spy on the gaming behaviour of other players .
  4. When collecting my daily win in my Tashkent, I got into a game with XTHD, FTD and ElrogGA (fortunately on my side) in Zao, Gearing and Hindenburg. Didn't notice XTHD at first, as I just quickly glanced over the team list to see the composition and my eye caught FTD's double underscores. Anyhow, I did rather well until a battleship decided to remove half my health and an enemy Yugumo managed to knock my engine out twice (repaired the first one) just as I spotted a Zao. As such, I drifted out of my emergency smoke cloud which meant that the Zao could hit me easily. Luckily, I managed to survive one salvo before the next puff concealed my ship. Unluckily, a stray shell from the following blind shot found my ship and sank me... Judging by the scoreboard (and the excellent play from at least FTD in the Gearing, didn't see much of the other two), they did rather well. Was fun to see how they opened fire at each other when the battle finished as well .

Festive Cheer Prize Draw #2 - Try Your Luck!

Please give me free stuff. After all, Christmas is all about giving . In all seriousness though, thanks for this lottery <3.
  6. Like cruisers and destroyers having an opportunity of hurting battleships without getting obliterated in return? What a shame. Really, I do not get why this is such a big deal. Just push into the caps and let the opponent play himself into irrelevancy. Either that or have your destroyers hunt him down (spotting is rewarded now so this kind of teamwork is actually being promoted)...
  7. So potato players do not use the Bismarcks' s hydro properly and therefore it is balanced while (more) skilled players (ranked games effectively force bad players to use it in advantageous situations due to the closer engagements involved) make the feature problematic? What a surprise. Depending on the requirements, the Iowa will also only be obtainable by either "veteran" players or by players with a stronk enough wallet. As such, you will get the same situation with that ship, only on a much larger scale (extra range). Do these developers even try to balance their game? "But wait, radar doesn't spot torpedoes!" you might say. Well, with the torpedo range nerf you don't have to; you can spot the destroyer instead. It did not enter the gameplay by mistake. If that was the case, it would have been removed when they fixed how the Concealment Expert affected the concealment penalty when firing the main guns. Other than that, I thought they were planning to do something about the BB-heavy meta, not worsen it... I've heard that one before! Interesting. Hopefully it will be extremely effective at taking out BB AA and not so much at removing cruiser AA/HP or destroyer HP. Giving the planes the ability to actually damage ships sounds like a bad idea since you then will end up with a lot of "dynamic" anti-air carriers. As for Russian battleships and British carriers not being released next (?) year, at least they have learned something from their mistakes. The release of the RU-lines wasn't really a great success in NA/EU and I don't think that a paper-heavy line will change the trend in the slightest. Meanwhile, the German battleships were a huge success at least on the EU servers (not sure about the rest though) both because they are famous and also due to how errr,,, competitive they are at the moment. The postponing (not sure what else to call it) of the British carriers seems also to be a wise choice due to the class' low popularity and the desperate need of a rework.

    The BB oversaturation

The problem with making battleships more expensive to play is that it merely hurts non-premium players. Apart from that, it's an equally poor solution as capping the amount of battleships per side: it merely camouflages the issue instead of solving it. As I see it, the issue is twofold: there are few cruisers around due to the low survivability of the class (excluding certain exceptions) while there are a lot of battleships currently due to how the class perform at the moment. The former has been an issue since closed beta and is also why we had the IJN DD "plague" (and why there are so "many" destroyers around today as well). Without tools like radar and due to the average destroyer never revealing itself (not many gunships around), cruisers were more often not countered by destroyers: said destroyers would permanently spot the cruiser and the battleships would merely have to nuke it from a distance. As such, more and more players started playing destroyers. Wargaming's solution to this was to nerf the IJN DDs, a trend that seems to continue to this date (guess we'll have to see, but I fear the worst). Giving cruisers radar (and better hydro) solved one part of the problem and by making gunships more popular, cruisers could now chase the destroyers away, either as a support ship or with the usage of the new tools. Meanwhile, with the continuous nerfs to carriers (either directly or indirectly), battleships received a larger and larger impact on the outcome of the battles. They were also made easier to play (AA, mobility, etc.) which in turn meant that they got more popular. Adding famous battleships (from an European perspective at least) didn't help either. As such, cruisers declined in popularity and the addition of the RN CLs will not and has not solved this issue, merely because they fail to address the problem itself (being overly skill dependant didn't help either): Battleships are far too easy to play and scales too well with player skill if you know the basics on how to play them. Contrary to the Shimakaze-spam, which scaled poorly with skill (bad players performed too well, good players didn't do well enough since the ship relies more on the stupidity of the enemies rather than the skill of the captain), battleships only have to play the objectives to do well. After all, they are the only ones that can push efficiently and they are also the only ones that can defend efficiently. At the moment neither carriers (well, most carriers) nor destroyers hurt them as hard as they hurt cruisers, while they can punish destroyers in a sufficient manner themselves (all they need is a spotter, same as most cruisers). Yes, a cruiser is better at it, but that hardly matters since a battleship has the absurd survivability to negate the advantage in anti-DD firepower. As such, something needs to be done about the battleships themselves, either by making carriers viable again or by making cruisers less vulnerable to battleships. Making destroyers able to punish battleships harder is also a solution, but that is difficult without also making them too good versus cruisers. Buffing torpedoes while giving cruisers (and destroyers) an inherent bonus to torpedo-spotting could work, but I guess the change would be extremely unpopular with a certain audience. TL;DR: BBs have been made too easy to play and cruisers lack the survivability to be popular. Destroyers fill the popularity gap, just like they did before WG nerfed them (IJN) and the introduction of radar only made cruisers better at hunting destroyers (rise in popularity) but failed to address the real issue (too vulnerable to BBs). Combine that with a popular BB-line and you have the current situation. The only rason why BBs aren't completely broken is that the domination mode favours destroyers more than battleships.

    The BB oversaturation

But BBs are not easy to play, they are just iconic, just like Shimakaze was the most iconic IJN vessel!

    Doubloons And Captains

If you have a Kamikaze R captain (who's trained in that ship), you will have to retrain him in order for him to be fully competent in the Shiratsuyu, yes. However, whenever the now-Shiratsuyu captain is placed back into the Kamikaze R, he can use that ship without retraining. (The same goes for all Japanese captains: they can be placed in premium ships without the need for retraining.) Hope this helps .

    Doubloons And Captains

If you want a captain in a silver ship to be efficient in another silver ship, you'll have to retrain him. If you want a captain in a silver ship to be efficient in a premium ship, you'll just have to transfer him to that ship. Both his proficiency and his skill will still be the same (so no retraining required when you put him back into the regular/silver ship) and he will have no penalties when using the premium ship. As such, you do not have to retrain him at all.

    Doubloons And Captains

No. Transferring a captain to a premium ship is absolutely free. The captain can use all his perks and will earn XP at a normal rate (including the bonus from the premium ship, of course). Transferring the captain back to the original ship is also free. In short, you do not have to retrain the captain in order for him to be using the premium ship and he will still keep his proficiency in the regular ship.

    Dragon flag vs Matchmaker

When you have the dragon flag equipped, you might unconsciously play more errr... silly in order to get the most out of it. For instance, in said tier 10 games, you might try too hard to get a decent result, thus resulting in bad games because you are not relaxed enough. In comparison, when you do not have the flags equipped you have nothing to lose (well, nothing additional to lose), so you'll play like you normally do. On the other hand, the answer might just be confirmation bias: you pay more attention to your losses with flags than your wins (negative impressions/emotions have a tendency to be remembered more clearly) so you draw a false "conclusion" and continue playing with that impression in mind, thus confirming it further whenever you lose. You might even play more badly because you think the game is a defeat from the very start because of this. There's also bad luck (in combination with the above, perhaps).

    One-off Personal Offer

Tinfoil-time: In my first (out of two till this day -.-') supercontainer, I got 500 gold. Immediately (or after one game, can't remember), I received an offer for a month of premium account for around 1390 doubloons (I had around 1400 at the time) which I declined. A few games later, I received an offer yet again, but this time it was "improved": Coincidence? I think not!

    Black Friday turning grey?

Well, that sucks. (Sorry, I'll see myself out) The only thing I initially wanted from this sale was a discount on port slots, but after the ARP slot rewards, I'm not in an immediate crisis any more.

    Black Friday turning grey?

While we're at the subject of premium ships, can someone please explain to me why the Atlanta is more expensive than both the Belfast and the Indianapolis? Hell, apart from crew training, it's arguably smarter to just add some more funds and then buy a tier 8 cruiser instead...

WTF is all this Poi malarkey?

Well, if you are ignorant of a specific subject, it's usually not a good idea to talk about said subject with extreme confidence or to even have an "informed" opinion on that subject in the first place. Defending such a blunder with "it is well known that..." probably won't help the situation either. Hentai and manga are also not the same thing by the way. That notion is as silly as saying that movies in general are synonymous with "erotic movies". Isn't that a rhetorical question tough?

  24. Yes, second-line torpedo launches are annoying (and in some cases downright dangerous), but your "solution" is as clever as not letting anyone play the game at all. After all, if no one is playing, there can be no team damage. In any case, bad players will still be bad and if not team damage with torpedoes, there'll be battleships camping in A1 or carriers doing questionable drops.
