Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Kartoffelmos replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
This is why you post the entire source material and not just an image. Crediting the source is also important. The same (first point) goes for the recent post about Musashi: the post in the "Some info..."-thread give the impression that the ship will be a "normal" reward ship while in reality she may be a clan war/tournament reward: In any case, I guess three strong contenders for the Taiwanese/Republic of China ship are HMS Aurora/Chan King, USS Mullany/Chiang Yang or Chao Ho (the aforementioned training cruiser). The Pan-Asia three already has Benson, so my guess is either a low-tier cruiser (though, it is rather weird to hype a tier 2 ship) or more probably the HMS Aurora. She might be introduced to the British three at a later date. As far as I know, there are plans to introduce RN heavy cruisers and Aurora may be part of that branch or even a lower/mid-tier premium. Having said that, the recent announcement regarding line adjustments/splits may put this on (further) hold. -
Patch 0.6.6 brings a significant nerf to all airplanes
Kartoffelmos replied to Babykim's topic in General Discussion
For USN carriers there should be literally no difference (unless using half a squad to scout is common), but for Saipan and IJN carriers, the difference will be noteworthy when striking isolated ships. For float planes, the nerf will be rather notable for the user, but I don't particularly mind it. They will still be able to spot targets and torpedoes but they will be more vulnerable. Maybe this will be a minor buff to destroyers in the grand scheme of things, but I doubt it. -

Was my first thought as well, since it seems to large to be a destroyer (not to mention the armament). -

HMS Aurora? (Chung King) EDIT: Triple-gun turrets which I failed to notice -> Can't be Aurora (unless some creative adjustments have been done). -
Regarding Gold share between WOWS and WOT
Kartoffelmos replied to Icesoft's topic in General Discussion
Maybe you've been blacklisted? Spoiler -
You are right. Lately, I've seen a lot of people "defending" (for a lack of a better word. Maybe supporting is better?) the BB overpopulation without any proper arguments, just the usual "everybody who disagree with me is a whiner" and "BBs are not strong, they are only popular because they are BBs" . It's the KV-1S/Hellcat-situation from WoT all over again. Neither of these were/are very famous vehicles, yet they were still by far the most popular ones when they were "unbalanced". Alternatively, you only need to go back to old Shimakaze-meta in order to see how truly idiotic the argument is. After all, Shimakaze was/is the most famous IJN vessel of WWII, right? Yes, the fame plays a role, but it is overplayed by certain people. If the ships were truly horrendous, people would not continue to play them, no matter how famous they were in real life.

So in practice, it is only a buff that affects other Emeralds. Every other ship with 150 mm guns load AP when the Emerald shows broadside and spam HE in all other situations, so I do not think that this buff will do all that much. It's nice that she receives some attention though.

I get them quite consistently from "signal flags and camouflages"-containers, but I might just be lucky in that regard . Having said that, I don't play a lot of games every day, nor do I exclusively play "detonation-prone" ships which may explain how I can keep my supply at a relatively stable level (diminishing slightly, I think). In any case, the feature is terrible and since it depends purely on RNG (full-health magazine has a chance to blow up, depleted/damaged magazine has a larger chance to blow up) while also not giving any sort of warning prior to the detonation, you cannot adjust your playstyle to prevent it (unlike WoT). Well, that's not strictly true. Perhaps that is the reason for BBaby's rushing to the map borders and refusing to take any hits . The people who like the mechanic should just donate all their detonation flags to those who hate it. That way, everybody is happy, right?
-
Meanwhile, I've only detonated twice in all my battleship games after I started to grind the German line (and both times was when taking a torp under the front turrets in the Gneisenau)... and I never use detonation flags on any of my battleships. Fun and engaging, but it is more fun and engaging for certain classes than others. At least we now have a way of farming the bloody signals without having to actually blow up.

As long as the ship is somewhat competitive, one ship is enough. If you die early, you should try to help your team (with "friendly encouragements" if needed ). I ran through my first ranked season in my Atago and I couldn't get myself to choose another ship because I wanted to see the outcome of every match. Of course, your mileage may wary. In any case, I managed to reach rank 1 and the errr... questionable gameplay that I witnessed on the way there has kept me from trying again. Maybe I'll take a shot at it this season if I have the time.

WG attempts to re-introduce Carriers into the game
Kartoffelmos replied to eliastion's topic in General Discussion
As far as I know, the surface-to-air spotting range for a full squad has always been 8 km. For scout planes it used to be 4 km, I think. Not sure about air-to-air spotting distances though. -
Regarding Gold share between WOWS and WOT
Kartoffelmos replied to Icesoft's topic in General Discussion
Nope, "only" gold and free XP. You can easily check this by looking at your (web-based) profile and compare your personal economy of the two games. Because it IS listed there (with my doubloon balance, I might add)? Honestly, the refusal to unify gold/doubloons is silly, but I fail to see how spreading misinformation is going to help. -

Regarding Gold share between WOWS and WOT
Kartoffelmos replied to Icesoft's topic in General Discussion
It doesn't really matter though, since you can more easily boost the free XP gain in WoWs than in WoT. As such, I don't think that unified free XP will ever happen, nor do I think that it should (new players wasting free XP without learning the game, instant Missouri, etc.). -
..so u.s. high tier dd are meant to do what...?
Kartoffelmos replied to Kutfroat's topic in General Discussion
Best torpedoboats in the game, best close-range fighters in the game, arguably the best cap contesters in the game, best support DDs in the game. In short, they're the best allrounder DDs in the game. You're welcome. Although, given that there hasn't been any replies from the OP, have we taken the bait? -

That's somewhat reassuring at least. Then again, maybe they'll replace it with smoke . -

So she is rather fast as well with decent (to say the least) AA. Balanced, comrade! -
British battleships incoming
Kartoffelmos replied to anonym_u5USg8CcK96I's topic in General Discussion
Even if we exclude radar (which is bad for destroyers and ambush tactics), having a low number of guns but with a fast(er) reload can be quite dangerous for opposing cruisers. The alternative is crap DPM, but with WG/Lesta's track record of catering to battleships, I fear for the worst. -

According to the wiki, rounding only happens with HE-shells, so it depends on if the wiki is accurate or not. In addition, the wiki states that the plating need to be less than calibre/14,3. If we assume that that is accurate and the value is indeed rounded to the nearest whole number, Yamato should not be able to overmatch 32 mm (460/14,3 = 32,17 -> 32). As such, I'm inclined to assume that the ship will not have Yami-lolpen guns. -
British battleships incoming
Kartoffelmos replied to anonym_u5USg8CcK96I's topic in General Discussion
Strictly speaking, 18'' is not enough to overmatch 32 mm (18'' = 457,2 mm -> 457,2/14,3 = 31,97 < 32). Yamato has 460 mm guns in comparison. Not that it will matter, as the ship will need to be either squishy as hell or hilariously slow to be balanced... -

Kartoffelmos replied to anonym_u5USg8CcK96I's topic in General Discussion
If the source at this site is credible, it might be a paper design with rather big guns (I hope not): The funnel layout is different though, but that's not a major issue. -
Some interesting info around the world
Kartoffelmos replied to Takeda92's topic in General Discussion
Might as well post this here since it is arguably quite important. An image depicting what appears to be the tier X RN BB (with radar) has been posted by WoWs Asia (judging by the url): Please discuss either here or here! -

What is made of the deck of the Moscow BB?
Kartoffelmos replied to strategy_admiral's topic in General Discussion
Nah, just plain old Stalinwood. Moskva's main deck armour is 50 mm so if you are shooting HE at her, aim for the superstructure and bow/aft sections.
