First impressions from a BB driver point of view
Adwaenyth replied to SpicierCptBB's topic in General Discussion
Well that is stupid, because the one actually "driving" aka steering the ship would be the helmsman. -
Might be a map bug where the collision model is not consistent with the visual model. Especially on the iceberg map, there are a few of these areas where you can get yourself stuck. Report (best with screenshot) as bug.

10% is rather a lot. - However, all in all it is a very small sample size still for all of us... To be more representative, we'd need statistics like vbaddict.
-
Yeah, Nagato truely needs an accuracy buff... or maybe not? Feeling more inaccurate might be because the shell velocity is very different from Fuso which with her 12x356mm guns had different handling compared to Nagatos 8x410mm.
-
Well if you count torp reliability, you have to reduce the ships in size and speed by half while keeping their dispersion. Then you'd get down to the usual 5-10% main battery hits that were common on real ships...
-
Bulkheads. The bow is ripped off, but the rest of the ship is still intact. When the bulkheads can seal off the damaged part, the ship can still float.

A battleship had enough ammuntion to last through several battles in WoWs, even if you keep the firing trigger pressed throughout the entire battle. Bismarck for example carried 1004 main battery shells. If you fire 8 shells / 30 sec, you will fire a total of 480 shells in 30 minutes. Even a cruiser like Cleveland - which is really spamming shells - will not run out of ammo before a battle is over.

You mean like that? http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/10323-%E2%96%BA-yamato-gameplay-97k-spartan-torp-damage/page__p__178151__hl__+yamato%20+torpedo#entry178151

Ye quick beginners guide to World of Warships
Adwaenyth replied to Adwaenyth's topic in Newcomers' Section
It makes a lot of difference which part of the ship you hit. For example, most of the superstructure give you rather low damage rolls (with AP shells at least), but you can damage guns/turrets there. If you hit the aft of the ship, you've got a good chance of taking out her rudder. If you hit between the turrets around the waterline, you'll likely achieve a magazine hit which causes tremendous damage or hit the engine rooms and disable her propulsion. However I've not seen it happen yet, that you can disable catapults for scout planes or damage radar or vision devices (might be a nice addon though, disabling the ships exact range display, although that would be a nightmare to realize considering mods). -
Ye quick beginners guide to World of Warships

If you are being shot at with HE shells, there is a good chance that you will get set on fire a lot. If you use your Damage Control Party, you've got a 15 seconds window, during which fires will automatically be put. Launching a squadron will take 10 seconds, so to get the most out of it, you give the launch order (it will be queued) then hit repair and the planes will automatically launch. You can get 2, maybe 3 squadrons up in the air when you time it right. The second part ist to be understood so that you can give the launch order, but the planes will only take off, when the fires are out, thus you have to use repair BEFORE you can actually launch a squadron, the order to launchem can be given in advance though. -
Well the German navy had a variety of different names: 1871 - 1918: Kaiserliche Marine (Imperial German Navy) likely Tiers I - V/VI 1918 - 1935: Reichsmarine (literally: Realm Navy) likely Tiers V/VI - VII 1935 - 1945: Kriegsmarine (literally: War Navy) likely Tiers VIII - X 1956 - present: Bundesmarine (German Navy, literally: Federal Navy) not represented in game As for the ships: IRL Germany usually favoured armour and speed over armament size, meaning you'll usually have lower calibre guns (with some exceptions like the Deutschland class, which is basically a CA with BB guns).

A suggestion on "How to play your BB"
Adwaenyth replied to TheDubiousDonut's topic in General Discussion
Short answer: Adapt. There is no "I always go there because this is the only choice" approach. You have to adapt to the current situation. As in World of Tanks, you want to be where you can bring your guns to bear on the enemy most of the time. Best would be without taking return fire, but if you have to sacrifice your entire team for that, it's not a very good option. Best engagement distance for BBs is btw. something like 8-12km. Above that and CAs can avoid your fire and on BBs its basically a RNG fest, below your guns won't turn fast enough and you'll eat torps. If you can't go that close because you're outnumbered, it's often better to retreat than trying to delay the inevitable. Always check your map and try to determine where you can be most effective. If you do not adapt to a changing battle situation, you're bound to fail. -
Well it would have the 28 cm SK C/34 which was mounted on the Scharnhorst-class... maybe that's why the model exists in WoWs.

It clearly shows two really annoying bugs at T10 though... DPM on the DesMoines is WAY too much (since the Galaxy has the exact same setup) Armour model on the Yamato turrets is ridicolous since you can lose all 3 main turrets easily... had a match that I had to ram the last enemy because I didn't have any main armament left.
-
Guess the collision model isn't coherent with the visual model of that map. That I guess is something WG already knows but fixing the map in that department might take a while... best report all the areas where this happens to WG, so they can narrow it down.
-
You sure it wasn't a SM-2 or a Sea Dart?
-
Since this always happened when I was top XP, my guess was that this is a bonus for being best player on the losing team (simliar to courageous resistance in WoT) - though it would be nice if that would be stated on the summary screen. Oh and while your at it, it would also be nice to see how much damage I've done on what enemy ship (and if posible by what means, aka direct hit, fire, flooding etc.).

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
Adwaenyth replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Could I have a rollback of the last 13 then - maybe even 15? -
What baffled me a little is this: vs this Damage wise they aren't far apart. Experience difference comes mostly from a monster battle I've had in a Cleveland that was also my x1.5 battle for that day - and the "Warships Destroyed" can be attributed to the lower rate of fire of the Aoba.

So my friend says "Just turn into the torpedoes to evade them...."
Adwaenyth replied to Aphraid's topic in General Discussion
Actually if everything is double, the size, the speed, why don't they just half the distance displayed and we're back to normal scales... except for shooting range and map size. -
How much data is used in a session of wow / wot?
Adwaenyth replied to MrRibz's topic in General Discussion
Let's be generous and assume 2 MByte / 5 minutes (guess it's even less). Then your 10 GByte limit translate to roughly 400 hours - at 30 days a month that is 13 hours per day, every day... -
Realism would include bad weather, engagements over hours, 1 out of 50 shells hitting a target, flooding slowing down ships, etc. etc. etc. Although I do like the open ocean map. Also engagements were rarely in shallow waters around islands the way the maps are currently. Most scenarios close to land would involve one side being the coast line (with maybe some rocks etc around that) and open waters towards the rest... haven't heard of many battles fought between BBs inside a fjord or something.
-
Well the ocean map is during dusk (think the sun was very low in the west) so it's likely an engagement like the battle of Jutland (which had the advantage of no torpedo bombers).
-
No this is not about losing 250k credits for the most iconic T10 ship we have in game... In light of the impending invasion, Japan ordered Yamato and a small fleet of escort ships to defend Okinawa. Outfitted with just enough fuel to reach the islands, Yamato set sail on 6th of April - it was a mission she was not expected to return from. Today exactly 70 years ago, the real Yamato was sunk by american aircraft taking over 3000 of her crew down with her. It was the last time Japan tried to bring a fleet to action in WWII. I think it is the right moment to remember all people on all sides that lost their lives in this war and hope that some day, people will realize the futility of war.
