CVs only have free reign against inexperienced players. Once you learn how to dodge torp spreads, you effectively negate the CV for a full cycle of recalling planes, refuelling, launching and circling until all squadrons are up again... That takes at least 2 minutes if close, 4-5 minutes if on the opposite side of the map. If you learn how to dodge aerial torps, you effectively take out an enemy ship of the game completely.

1. Do NOT try to revice necro threads. There are plenty of other threads focusing the same issue. 2. To evade torp bombers, you have to react BEFORE they drop their load. Turn into the bombers is mostly the best cause of action, even if there is a second wave coming. You can outmaneuver the first one easily (head on) and even if he launches the second as a T, you often enough have still time to turn around and away from the second wave to only get hit once or not at all... you have of course to turn in advance.

Will we ever see submarines in this game?
Adwaenyth replied to Gunerstile's topic in General Discussion
Uhm... the only enemies of BBs currently in the queue are other BBs. At least 90% of the ships queued are BBs. -
For starters: The slower and less agile your ship, the more you have to think ahead. Thus playing a BB right requires a lot more planning than playing a CA or DD right. For advanced players: EVERY ship requires you to think ahead. You will get better when you analyze the situation and think of a solution, but that requires experience that you can only gain by playing AND thinking about what you did wrong.
-
Okay THAT is why BBs are so often at the edges of the map trying to snipe people at 20 km+... wait a minute...

With 16 inch guns, you're likely to overpen while you will score a lot of citadel hits with HE shells. Nevertheless, the cruisers will burn you from stem to stern if you don't dispose of them quickly.
-
With AP loaded and 2 CAs shooting HE at him, it's safer to go for the CAs, as they are the more imminent danger compared to the CV. Also the cruisers and can be disposed of quickly if you manage to score citadel hits. The CV on the other hand you need to switch to HE and his TBs aren't an immediate threat if you maneuver your ship right.

Submarines at that times were slow surfaced and even slower submerged. They were utterly unarmoured so that one hit from anything will likely penetrate the pressure hull and cause severe flooding - likely sinking the sub. Its torps will not have more range than the torps of a DD, so at best a sub can lie and wait near the cap, hope to drop a few torps if lucky before getting shelled / depth charged by cruisers and DDs. So no, subs will not come into play. -
The BB captain made several big errors there. He focused firing on the cruiser without turning to counter the incoming torp bombers and he gets himself rammed by the other BB of his team, effectively negating his ability to move or turn in time. The biggest mistake however occured at 27:30 in the video - long before before he even got to the cap circle... he turned towards the cap, leaving him with no room to maneuver and two carriers around that were likely to focus the BBs. If he had turned slightly north to engage the northern cruiser, he could have avoided that torp spam alltogether...

Why are we referring to warships as "she"?
Adwaenyth replied to Bl4ckh0g's topic in General Discussion
I've also read that the tradition to call ships female was widely adopted in Germany only under emperor Wilhelm II. Until then it was (especially during and after the dark ages) often a mixture of male and female declarations. It would make sense that it was under Wilhelm II. when this tradition was established in Germany since he was a cousin to King George V and was fascinated with the Royal Navy - which led him to create an extensive building program for the German Navy. It would only be natural that he'd adopt the tradition from England. -

There are several people and a town named Bismark (without c) but the chancellor (and subsequently the ship) were spelled with c as "Bismarck". -
i can't see the detected sign on any of the ship class's

See attached screenshot. That's red framed skill is what you're looking for. -
ONE 800mm gun wouldn't be a problem. 8 in 4 turret mounts would be. Besides to anyone who wants to have a look check out your WoWS folder: %WOWSPATH%\res\content\gameplay - especially the "Germany" part you'll see something in there... although when you compare it to the other folders, you'll also notice that some things are still missing.

The Kriegsmarine in WoWs-Episode 3: Light cruisers
Adwaenyth replied to Altair2012's topic in General Discussion
Well the modern Baden-Württemberg class are officially classified as frigates (!) while having a displacement of 7200 tons and 150m length. I'd say that qualifies for these to be destroyers.- 32 replies

HMS Trollspite - A new dawn for battleships
Adwaenyth replied to Shepbur's topic in General Discussion
Especially the WWI german BBs could be constructed with only the North Sea in mind. They did not have to be equipped to protect an entire empire, they were only built to challenge the British Grand Fleet. Since Germany didn't have the capabilities to really outbuild Great Britain in terms of battleships, they built their battlecruisers more battleship like - with really heavy armour. How sturdy they have been, could be seen during Jutland, where they were really taking a beating from the British Grand Fleet and still only lost one battlecruiser. As said, the German fleet could emphasize on a close range engagement, which gave them some advantages in ship design, as they didn't have to consider long overseas trips for these ships. It will most likely mean highly maneuverable and well armoured BBs for the WWI era ships. The WWII german battleships were built with having France as an opponent in mind, so Bismarck and Tirpitz were built to counter the french ships. Speed and armour were the most important aspects - and again, only with North Sea and North Atlantic in mind, not any other seas. -

Besides, she is agile enough to dodge most incoming fire at 16km+ so getting into range isn't that difficult. -
The problem often is, that people do not anticipate the movement of their ships right, even if they see a collision is about to happen. Often enough it happens, that one tries to turn away from what is about to become a collision midships only to cause a collision aft because he turns the aft into the on comming ship instead of passing by each other... People often don't realize that ships can be 10 times as long as they are wide.

Bismarck had up to 320mm belt armour, 145mm citadel armour, 120 + 60mm deck armour. Turrets and barbettes had 360mm and 220mm armour. Speed wise she had 30.6 kts as top speed at 150k shp. The only thing that was not up to the other ships was the calibre of the guns which she had only 15 inch compared to the 16 inch most others will have at T8 - although these 15 inch guns did pack quite a punch... well guess the good at almost everything except AA was the "advantage" of having to build your BBs from scratch after WWII...

If you enlarge the image by 800%, you can see there are four turrets stylized, a superstructure with a bridge tower and a mast, which would again mean Bismarck/Tirpitz.

Ye quick beginners guide to World of Warships
Adwaenyth replied to Adwaenyth's topic in Newcomers' Section
When you have a shell dispersion of 260m at maximum range ~ 20km, then that can still be 130m at 10km and will still be 65m at 5km (any closer is unusual for a BB to fire her shells). Now 65m - even if the ships are doubled in size - can still mean you can miss by the entire width or height of the ship you shot at. -
The Kriegsmarine in WoWs-Episode 1: Destroyers
Adwaenyth replied to Altair2012's topic in General Discussion
Depends on what you define by "german engineering driving/flying around". If you refer to WW2 equipment, well that mostly got sacked / destroyed. So aside from museums and collectors there isn't that much around any more. If you refer to german engineering in terms of modern military equipment, there still are Rheinmetall / Kraus-Maffei Wegmann for the driving part. German ships are still built by Thyssen-Krupp and Lürssen. For planes and helicopters it's basically down to Airbus Military. I live rather close to an Airbus Helicopters factory building the EC 665 Tiger and close to a Luftwaffe fighter base (now equipped with Eurofighter Typhoons). For tanks we had 100 Leopard 2 (A1 and A4 variants) and 50 Leopard 1A5 tanks stationed there about 20 km from my home town, so we often could see the tanks rolling around... sadly it is now closed due to restructuring of our armed forces. And before you ask, I live about 150km away from what used to be the German / German border until 1990. There is such a large amount of military bases around here, because they estimated they needed that distance to mount an effective counter attack to halt an invasion by WP forces.
