    37km was maximum firing range at 45.25° elevation. Mounted in Colorados turrets, the maximum elevation was 30° which ranged the guns at a maximum range of 31 km. Maximum range in WoWs is - due to map size - about half of the RL value FOR ANY SHIP. Therefore it's more something like "maxium effective range".

    Most common fails in WoWs noticed so far (in order of severity): YOLO. Sail at full speed dead ahead into 5 enemy ships - only to notice that you are alone. (Mostly DDs, some fast CAs) Don't mind me, I can hold a flank alone (any class) Fail to turn around when you clearly see you're outnumbered (any class) Fire torps from second line and avoid everyone to notice them (DDs, CAs) Fire torps at 15 km when your maximum torp range is 7 km or less (DDs) Hug the map border trying to snipe enemy DDs at 20 km range (BBs) Stick your ship to an island and try to poke out (all classes) Sail as far away from your team as possible (CVs) Sail in a straight line when an enemy BB is bearing down broadsides on you (mainly CAs, BBs)
  3. That would be an optional "nice look" feature for less than half the player base. Possible but not very probable.
  4. Main limitation: Average russian PC is usually quite below average US/EU PC. WG will not drop a whole lot of their customers due to driving the required specs too high. XBox you have a fixed hardware and they know exactly how it will play on the respective console everywhere in the world, but in terms of PC they will have to aim for the PC of their target audience.

    Is WOWS realistic?

    To simplify the game (and shorten battles) the size and speed of ships has been increased by a factor of 2.5. The shells also travel faster. A Kongo's 14" shell would have about 500 m/s at 20 km range. Thus it would take that shell about 1 minute (don't forget the arc) to travel from the Kongo to the target. That is very logical considering that IRL you had an average of 3-5% hits with ship guns. If ships were that slow and hit that badly, battles would otherwise take hours - literally. If you enlarge everything by 2.5, you get that up to 30-40% and battles can last for minutes instead. Also, if you aim at a target traversing, you ALWAYS have to lead by almost the same angle. It doesn't make a difference if the target traverses at 20 km, 10 km or 5 km. The shell speed is constant in WoWs. You have to lead your shells all the same. The only thing that changes is the gun elevation, which makes your shells travel a little less distance the closer the target is. If it is 8° at 20 km, it will be about 7° at 10 km and it will by about 6° at 5 km. The only difference here is that the shell arc gets lower and the shell actually has to travel relatively less distance than at a higher arc. Also, the shell travel time displayed (while holding ALT key, alternative display setting <- I'd recommend the later) is correct.

  8. Wrong. The match maker has the job of getting all people into battles asap as it can't predict "fun" battles.

    Bonus actually IS a latin word. It only got anglicized and thus the plural is bonuses in English now while it stays boni in several other languages.

BBs: Highest hitpoints of all ship classes Best armour of all ship classes Highest alpha damage of all ship classes Ability to OHK any ship on the battlefield High range (okay, you got RNG there, but it's not like it would never hit) Ability to regenerate hitpoints CAs: Highest DPM of all ship classes Good allrounder with decent speed, decent hit points, decent armour Good accuracy High rate of fire Very good AA capabilites Very maneuverable DDs: Highest Speed of all ship classes Smallest profile of all ship classes Extremely maneuverable Ability to lay smoke screens Very hard to hit because of all the above Big alpha damage via torpedoes Very dangerous to all BBs/CVs once close enough CVs: Best defense against enemy planes Very good at scouting Capable of destroying (unaware) BBs without risk to itself Highest range of all ship classes High speed to keep out of range of enemy ships Of course each aspect also has its downsides...

    Kriegsmarine used radar to assist in range finding, which about double the distance than visual range finding due to the different wave length.

    Btw. Kongo did have British guns. She was fitted with the Vickers 14"/45 Mark A.

    Speaking in game to RL terms, the skill equals the damage control party of the crew that is rather busy with EITHER happening and thus it is the same cooldown.

    As said, the difference is for balance reasons. It's an arcade game, where you hit ten times more often than in a real battle at sea. Also you mustn't forget, ships DO close that distance twice as fast than IRL. As for HMS Vanguard... the values are often confused, because the guns (specifically the 15"/42 Mark I in that case) was tested as costal artillery also. The gun itself CAN fire at up to 40 km using supercharged propellant (which was never issued to ships) AND elevating the gun to 50° (which ships couldn't do). The maximum elevation for the Warspite was about 20° before (WWI) and 30° after the retrofit (WWII). At 20° elevation (WWI) the gun could fire a little more than 21 km. WWI battles between BBs - especially Jutland - were typically fought between 10 and 15km. Sighting and ranging equipment usually prevented any battles beyond that range in WWI.

    Should be about 0.5% per second and per fire burning... you can counteract that on a BB however with repairs.

    Every single gun in WoWs fires shorter than it was actually able to. The Kongo could fire shells more than 35km at her maximum elevation. The Warspite on the other hand could fire her shells at 30 km at her maximum elevation, even after retrofit. So Kongo could fire 5 km further than Warspite. Hitting at that distance is another matter entirely. So for balancing purposes, WG lets you elevate your guns a little lower, so that matches don't take ages. Ships are already twice the size and twice as fast as they were IRL to keep matches below a duration of 1 hour... And please don't come up with "Warspite hit Guilio Cesare at 23 km". Yes she did. ONE hit... one extremely lucky hit with guns that usually hit 3-5% of their shells. But a sample size that small doesn't mean that she could do so reliably. Btw. @ Bismark, her maximum firing range at max elevation was a little over 36 km. Again, that will get stooped down to my guess is around 21 km. What I am expecting to see is a rather fast rate of fire for a BB (~20-25 secs), since the german guns could be loaded relatively fast.

    Think about what matchmaker has to balance out: At least 80% of the ships queued are BBs, yet it shouldn't make all BB matches. At least 80% of the ships queued are of Tier 5 and below, yet it shouldn't make all low tier matches. And most essential: No one player should wait in the queue indefinitely. The consequence of all that is, that the MM will have to make compromises and create slightly imbalanced teams to give all players a match relatively fast. So in the end, it's low player numbers and uneven ship distribution that causes the problem.

    Uhm nope? BBs just need one well placed salvo even on T8+ to wreck a CA from full HP to dead. If you want to close in to torp range (which also means exposing your side) you WILL get that hit from a good BB skipper. If he's unlucky he might need two to three salvos, but that's about it. In equal numbers CAs vs BBs, the BBs will likely win if the skippers skills are on par.

    Also use equipment / skills to reduce the chance of fire / flooding on the ship.

    Warspite is best used at distances from 6 to 10 km when you've got the secondaries enhanced or 8 to 12 km when not. She's really good at killing of cruisers / destroyers, especially with the secondaries and can still hold her own against BBs at close® range. Never go below 5 km though if you can avoid it.
