  1. Tady, v prvním příspěvku. A zmínění vítězové obdrží klíč v soukromé zprávě.
  8. Important Note:This guide will be updated over time when things change, I'm also planning some videos, but first I have to collect some good materials Change Log: 10/2/2015 - First version 10/3/2015 - Updated for CBT Launch [ UBER-GOAT ] Ultimate Battleship ExpeRience Guide Of All Time So, you wanna play some warships, right? You heard it’s great and you wanna sink something. You know what? That’s right! The problem is you know nothing… John Snow. Ehm… sorry, wrong script. This is no AGOT, neither GOAT SIMULATOR. This is the only guide you’ll ever need if you want to play Battleships in World of Warships. And you might learn something useful even for other ship classes. You are now sitting in your port, first few games as cruiser behind you and you just unlocked Kawachi, Tier 3 Battleship of the IJN (Imperial Japanese Navy). But before we start, you should know few things, so you can start shining much faster. Also, this guide won’t tell you what exactly to do at what time. Instead, it is separated into multiple parts, each describing one of the game’s elements. [spoiler ALERT] You should stop reading if you like to discover things the hard way alone. Game Mode Differences Co-op Battles give you less credits and exp (experience) but they allow you to get used to your ship and try it against “easy” opponents controlled by computer’s AI (bots). Bots are firing very precisely but their navigation skills are poor so they often end up colliding with islands (this is still true, but will probably be fixed during CBT). But when it comes to strategy, they are trying to retreat and hide, so they stay longer alive. They are also trying to avoid your salvos, so it's good way how to learn to aim. If you really want to just practice aiming, pick some ship with fast reload rate. Once you know how to aim, focus on maneuvering because moving target is much more difficult to hit and you are effectively reducing incoming damage. Random Battles are the intended way to play. It’s an online game after all. There are bonuses to rewards (which also means faster progress) and the game is much more dynamic against real players. I can tell you one thing - never underestimate your enemy and remember this at all times: YOU ARE NOT IMMORTAL. One perfectly-aimed salvo can send you to the bottom of the ocean faster than you ever thought. Situational Awareness You just spawned somewhere on the map. First thing you should always think about is where your allies are and in which ships. Then check enemy ships and try to predict where they spawned (if your ships are split into 2 groups, enemy’s setup will be roughly reflecting yours). If you see some player divisions, keep in mind they will cooperate closely. And finally, keep the team goal in your mind at all times. If you stop checking it, you may end up in situation when enemy is getting so close to victory by cap/score that you can’t do anything about it anymore. Good thing is that you can see your teammates locations during the loading before the battle starts, so you can immediately start thinking about your and enemy's moves. As a battleship you have to plan ahead. Stay undetected as long as you can (CV’s will usually spot you rather sooner than later) and in first phases of battle check for airplanes. You should do this over entire game so you always see the torpedo bombers coming. There is no universal strategy, but I prefer to play safely, because the longer I survive, the more damage I deliver. I usually stay closer to the mid (usually some island if applicable, or one of the flanks where I can cover behind obstacles - never stay in open sea) of map until I see how the enemy forces are positioned and if I get good opportunity, I try a shot at enemy BB’s. Now, let’s say that I notice 4 of 5 enemy BB’s floating to left, 2 DD’s and 1 CA are in the middle of map and last of these 8 enemies was not yet seen, but by counting them we know it’s the BB. So, I decide to go right, flanking the enemy because in worst case I can only meet enemy BB in there and take him out. That’s also time when you should use your scout plane to know about enemies getting close, so you can prepare some advantages for you by early maneuvering. For example, nothing is better when you manage to surprise enemy BB from other side of island than he was expecting you. Such situation allows you to have 1-2 extra broad sides and also allow you to get into range of your secondary armaments. It also helps to have the detection skill, so you know when you are detected (if the icon is not active, you can be sure the enemy doesn't see it). Never lost fight against unaware enemy so far because it’s impact is deadly for the victim. Good news is there is a lot of room to do unexpected things. Underestimation is powerful weapon and if enemy underestimates you and expects you to continue in your path once you hide behind the iceberg, while you do fast turn and rotate your guns to opposite site, he will be pretty surprised when you show up on other side, fire at him and then start turning opposite direction to hide again before he can fire back. The terrain is your friend, use it. Scout Planes So, you noticed this shiny button and you feel the urge to press it as soon as the battle starts, right? WRONG! If you use it to soon, you will be so far away from enemies, that it will be just wasted plane. Instead keep waiting. There are other players who will use it, so let them. And if your team has some CV’s, forget using your scout until you really have to. Leave the scouting to CV’s and Cruisers. Remember, you should use your scout ONLY when you are blind, meaning when you can’t see enemies and there is no-one else to scout it for you. Remember the example from previous part (Situational Awareness)? While you are in middle of duel between the icebergs, using scout will give you advantage over your enemy. You will know his location and direction. Repair Skill You want to use this skill only for critical situations. I know you feel like you have to use it anytime you are set on fire, but “STAY CALM AND… KEEP WAITING”. Critical situations are for example: torpedoes or any lethal damage in your way, your steering control or engine is damaged and you can’t avoid without using Repair you are set on fire or flooding while having low health, damage control party is on long cooldown and you won’t survive long enough without using Repair You can also use it in situation, when you are getting hidden behind island for example while being set on fire. If you are sure that you won’t get hit again, don’t wait and use Repair. Or when your turret is damaged and your only chance to win is to destroy enemy before he does it to you, you should not wait with Repair. Damage Control Skill This skill allows you to recover some HP. I recommend you to save this skill for times when it’s needed the most which is most likely after being hit by unavoidable torpedoes (flooding), or after you received a lot of fire/flooding damage as Damage Control can repair it completely. When hit by torpedoes, it’s good to wait for last torpedo and then use both Repair and Damage Control to recover from it. Commander Skills Over time you want to definitely have all that are related to your ship class. But definitely start with ones that upgrade your armaments, repair and damage control abilities. Then it’s always good to know when you are detected and when not. Especially when fighting 1v1 between islands and icebergs, if you notice that you are not detected, it’s perfect time for doing exactly the opposite of what you planned. Enemy won’t expect it. Later I will update this part to explain single options and their priorities. Secondary Armaments These are activated on close range, which is usually under 4-5 km. You can increase their range with some upgrades and skills (in theory as I had not enough resources/experience to try it yet) and you should definitely do it as they are doing massive amounts of damage. Longer range means that small ships will have it much more difficult to get into lethal range for their torpedoes, giving you more room for maneuvering. Upgrades These are expensive so buy them only on ship you want to keep and play enough to make the investment worth it. Anyway, will update this after CBT starts as these were updated lately. Shell Differences HE Shells These high explosive shells have fair chance of setting the ship on fire which results in damage over time (keep in mind that all damage done by fire can be eventually fully restored). They are best choice against less armoured targets. AP Shells Armour Penetrating shells are best against armoured targets. You can use them on less armoured targets too, but you will often do no damage because of over-penetration (shell goes in like knife through butter and goes out on the other side before triggering explosion - but be aware that there were changes to armour system lately, so it may not be accurate and I will be updating this based on CBT experiences). However, if you manage to hit the citadel (core of the ship, highly armoured relative to thickness of ship’s plating), you can blow it up. For armoured targets, use your AP Shells with one exception. There is kind of middle range (lets say for example 10-15 km; this value is different for various ships and guns) called immunity zone. When you fire on enemy at such distance, the shells will most likely bounce off, doing very low or no damage. That’s distance where HE Shells should be preferred ammunition. On high range (15 km+ for example) shells are falling on deck and on close range (10 km and less) they are mostly hitting the belt. Both deck and belt hits are fair game for your AP Shells and will result in high damage if they hit and massive damage if they hit citadel. Remember, numbers I used are only examples. You have to watch your salvos and do your own test of these distances. Anti-Aircraft Defence All Battleships starting with Tier 5 (Kongo) have AA defences. These are not so effective, but it gets much better on higher tiers (Yamato is like floating island of AA). You will get down some planes, but for skilled CV commander you are no match unless you prevent that from happening. There are few things you can do. Stick close to rest of your fleet. Never go alone unless you know what are you doing and flanking the enemy is viable strategy at given conditions. If you see enemy planes coming in your direction, you should rather stick to the fleet and delay your solo actions until you are sure that CV’s are going for other target (which will give you up to few minutes of safety). If you cannot go with your fleet, having some Cruiser nearby or coming with you helps a lot. You can also ask your CV’s commander to give you support by sending fighters your way. Remember, it’s all about cooperation. Torpedo Avoidance Torpedo Bombers You should watch and check enemy planes often. You can see them from far away if they are going for you or not. If you are sure they are going for you, you should start turning in their direction or the opposite direction. The sooner you start with it, the harder you make it to the CV to get you down and you might shot down few planes in the process. If the CV uses auto-launching of torpedoes, you should be able to easily avoid all of them. If the CV’s commander uses manual launching, it makes it little bit harder, but still it’s same, start turning as soon as you can. Also, if you floated without turning for some time and you notice the torpedo bombers, if you do nothing, enemy might underestimate you. If you watch the planes carefully and predict how they will drop the torpedoes, you can make him miss you by huge distance by starting your maneuver just shortly before expected time of drop. He will be unable to react. There are also situations when all torpedoes cannot be avoided. Skilled CV commanders will not give you much room to manuever and will launch coordinated attacks with multiple TB squadrons. If performed well, you can choose only thing - side you want to be hit from. Classic behaviour of BB commander under such attack is reckless maneuvering, trying to avoid it all. Often it results in getting hits from one side and then from the other side as well. Instead of doing this, be ready to get damaged and try to reduce it’s amount to minimum. As soon as the torpedoes are launched (and you are already somewhere in middle of the intended turn), finish the rotation so one side misses completely and adjust your speed (usually slow down). This let’s you to get behind one wave of torpedoes and increase speed again to attempt avoiding the other wave. Or the slowing may result in few torpedoes from the other wave to miss you. Every attack is different so don’t expect you will always be able to dodge so many. But you should always be able to reduce incoming damage to less than 50% of it’s maximum potential. Also, keep Repair and Damage Control ready if you can. Very often after being hit by torpedoes I immediately fixed the flooding and restored my HP so I lost only about 10% in total. Luckily, there is many CV commanders using auto-launch and even more, who are picking wrong targets, resulting in no support/advantages gained for their team. And we will see much more of them over time. But it doesn’t mean you should underestimate them. Never do that, always think as if it was tactical genius on the other side. Destroyer For destroyers it’s pretty much the same, but you will usually see them from much smaller distance (sometimes they can sneak up to 6 km away from you) and they can also use smoke screen for their defence. Anyway, best thing you can do is to sail away from it, while showering it with HE Shells. You don’t want to let it get too close to you. Your secondary guns are deadly, but it’s torpedoes too. Watch the DD’s closely as you can see when they launch torpedoes. Once you know, where they dropped it, just ask yourself where would you send them to hit you? And then start turning. Sometimes it means you will have to turn your ship and rotating your guns takes a lot of time (enemies I met so far usually kept in mind you want to keep shooting, so you will not perform 180 degree turn), but having only half of your armaments aiming on the enemy is still better than risking of being sunk by torpedoes. Ships like Amagi are especially good in this with 3 primary armaments on it’s back, while the pursuer can fire at you only from front armaments. It will take a lot of time for such DD to hunt you down and the closer it is, the better chance for you to sink it with single salvo (you can also mix this with maneuvering, allowing you to fire full broad side every 30 seconds). Dive Bombers This is special group of planes and I don’t think it’s good against BB’s. Yes, it can hurt you, it will set you on fire, but with Repair or Damage Control ready it’s no big threat unless you are on low health. I didn’t use them personally but I’ve seen them best used on DD’s and CL’s. However, if CV’s commander targets you, you can’t do much to avoid it. Few bombs will hit you and probably set on fire, so just use Repair and act as if nearly to nothing happened. If needed, use Damage Control too. And that's all for now. Will add more stuff SOON™... weeks:-)
  9. OMG! This was released on WoWs YouTube channel just few moments ago. Yea I know, some of us had the opportunity to check it out ahead on ST server (had great fun in the past weeks) but I didn't expect it to get out so quickly. Anyway, I hope you will love this update as much as we do and feel free to post about how much you are excited!

    [Video Trailer] Update 0.4.1 - Coming Soon™

Well, April 1st is over, so I wanted to say I'm glad you liked it. Thank you for all likes as well as reports. I have no idea how many of you disliked it, but it's good to know that most of you still have good sense of humour and respect for the efforts done to make this real. Also thanks to Schultz for getting out his old SH3 screens. It allowed me to prepare the screenshots for him and Ecotech to post. Finally, thanks to all of Supertesters for supporting this thread, allowing you to experience this joke. Who knows, this time it was joke. Next time it may be real;-) (hopefully not any soon... or never for the best)

    [Video Trailer] Update 0.4.1 - Coming Soon™

Agreed, but biggest problem is the air supply right now. It forces you to emerge too often and once you do it, you have no chance if there is any enemy in range.
  13. Thanks for support guys. I could definitely add some more deep tips for specific maps because what Tuccy said should be added to loading screens In short, if you consider yourself to be useful and good player, never go far from your base. In every single game there is some ship (usually more of them) that goes to cap at some moment in the game. I lost few games because of it so I never count with teammates to do something properly, remember games where I thought "hey it's just 1 dd and we have 4 ships in there" and we lost it. You must do it yourself if you really want to win. So, in maps where BBs go to open sea, I usually follow them and in mid-way I turn back to base to defend it. Sometimes we win easily so I don't get my usual exp, but most of the times it works like a charm and I get nice results At least as you can see in my stats, survivability is very important. The longer you survive, the better results. But never go too far to sides, away from all the fighting. Anyway, I have to say that every ship is only as much OP as the player controlling it. If you take your time and think of what you're doing, you will always find a way how to be useful. If not, learn from mistakes and become a better player. I will try to update this soon™ as I'm trying to become a better player too and it means constant evolution of own skills. So what was true yesterday may be different story tomorrow. Anyway I hope it helps you and we will meet in some epic battle:-) Yesterday I played 2 Amagi formation with Lightbaron and I totally loved it. It was like "Let's target the Amagi" - died in few seconds from full hp to zero, each of us hit for 30k+) - "Nice shot! Now the Fuso" -> "Done, the destroyer behind you next!" -> "Already got him.."

    Introduction to the supertest!

Yea, I also don't like the ST guys, they are pretty crazy sometimes, creating stupid threads like this full of jokes that noone understands... ...wait, you didn't mean Star Trek? PS: I actually like Star Trek;-)
  16. I don't feel the BB's are so much underpowered, but I don't like the RNG too. When I fire at 20km, hit them and 200 damage text pops up What... did I hit the top of the antenna? Also, I think I play BB (at least based on my battle results) much better than CA but the BB's xp/credit rewards seem to be a lot smaller.

    Statistics

I will tell you truth. No matter what WG will do about it, there will be stats. Majority of players wants them. Minority of players wants them so hard that they will develop the tools. And very small group of players will find it annoying and game-breaking. There are only two outcomes: 1) There will be stats. Private customizable profiles available only to your friends. 2) There will be stats. Players will develop online tools and mods to display these stats in-game as in WoT. If there are no public stats, players will still get the values from battle results or replays. It would be little bit more difficult, but just look at what players did in HotS. Background app monitoring replays folder, getting important info from them and uploading it online. These stats won't be complete, but it will be good solution for everyone who wants stats. If you realise this, you will stop asking about stats breaking the game. It's not about stats, but the people who want them and it's something WG cannot win against and why they allowed it for WoT. Only choice you really have is to play or not to play the game. Honestly, I hope for solution (1), so players can choose what information they want to make public and what they want to keep for themselves+friends. I would like to play battles, where enemy don't know about my skill, number of battles and so on. However there are some stats or badges I would like to make transparent. Private profiles where you can check these things would be perfect. But if it ends up being same as in WoT, I'm not against it.

    Back to the closed alpha

1 user voted Yes (creator, maybe?:-)). Let's make a new poll where we vote for the most useless thread of all times:-) Btw, mentioning things from CAT is forbidden due to NDA. This thread should not exist at all or be moved to proper section.
  21. 1) This is Beta TEST, such behaviour is part of testing (everything must be tried), so there is no point in punishing players now. However, it should be prevented for future and XP/credits reduced to 0 seems to be good solution (in other words, if CV decided to sink itself, he must count with getting no xp at all and that this battle will reduce his credits a lot due to high repairs and no income). 2) CHALLENGE OFFERED!: Sink yourself with own torpedo while playing Destroyer

BB getting your shots to hit target

I'm working on BB video guide. Anyway, when you fire at 20km, you have to pick target well. If you are fighting against skilled commander, he will expect it and out-maneuver your shots, 15+ seconds is a lot of time. It's better to fire at targets who are moving in straight line at constant speed. Always use the ALT key and check for the distance/time. Soon you will master this and be able to fire pretty accurately on any distance (of course, to not maneuvering targets... for the skilled ones you have to predict better).

    Suggestions...

Not playing CV's much but I think that arming distance marker is good idea not only for CV's torpedo attacks, but all torpedoes. And instead of combining red/green colors, just start with the green color where the torpedo will be already armed.
