  1. and why does this section only get a 25mm plate to cover it ? i mean it's not like that room has ever been part of the citadel as far as i know, the underwater torpedoes where close by but those compartments where up against the hull, so what gives ? why does the ship get a artifical weakness like that ? the armor-cover from the deck down is only around 50mm meaning lobbing a citadel in there is possible with something as small as a 6" gun, and there's no sources i have found that indicate that this was a real weakness, they all mention 89mm citadel armor on the top as-build and extended to 127mm over the magazines post jutland. it's got a similar issue with the rear turrets where, what looks like some sort of storage area, is artifically included, but at least it doesn't get covered by paper-mache. here's a cross section for comparison. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0703/catherine.fisher/Eagle-Comic-HMS-Warspite-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0703/catherine.fisher/Eagle-Comic-HMS-Warspite-21.jpg

    so im curious

the new york also has noticably shorter range and it's also about 30% slower, meaning it spends more time trundling into range, to top it off, a Kongo has better accuracy than the New York at the New York's combat ranges, making it easier to score hits. and why are you comparing Destroyers and Battleships ? Destroyers have neglible dispersion, the only stat that matters is volume of fire, the rest if your aim.

first ratings matter, then they dont, could you please make your mind up here ? as for actual rating comparisons, the sims get 27, Kiev 29, Gremy 27,Mahan 26, Hatsaharu 23 and Gearing 28... if you notice, i never talked about ratings, only about actual outfitting, as in number of torpedo tubes and gun barrels, we can only speculate on the rest for now, but it seems... striking, that the difference between a tier 7 Destroyer and a tier 10 Destroyer is precisely nothing in that department, putting the Kiev (6x130mm 2x5 tube) significantly ahead of the Mahan (4x127mm 3x4 tube) and Hatsaharu (4x127mm 2x3 tube) considering that, if we simply transplant the armament stats from the tier 5 premium ship, it comes out significantly stronger than its competitors by virtue of it's heavier salvo weight and good, if not great, torpedoes

hard stats mean a great deal, the pre-split KV KV-1S rang and want their old tech-tree positions back, the problem, in both cases, was a "hard stats" one, too much armor on the former and a too good protection/mobility ratio on the latter, both compounded by attaching very powerful guns to them. the Sims have the similar gun-stats as most of the USN Destroyers, 13.3RPM, expecting the Kiev to pull 12RPM in that light is not unreasonable considering the Gremy get's 12 out of the box, 13.3 with skill. quite, and none-too-bad torpedoes in the shape of the 53-39's. where did i complain ? i expressed curiosity as to how that's going to be balanced when you consider the similarities between the soviet tier 7 and the USN tier 10 in hard stats, and how they are going to prevent this thing from utterly curb-stomping the Mahan at what it's supposed to be good at, namely killing off other destroyers, or simply edge the Hatsaharu out entirely by having "good enough" torpedoes coupled with a main battery that is not loaded by a anaemic pygmy.

nope, it has 2 twin and 1 single. because the "hard" stats are identical, ie, number of barrels, number of torp tubes and size ? looks like it has worse AA (in it's 1941 partially build state, versus a mid 1945 gearing during trials) but higher speed, the point being, why is one on tier 10 and the other on tier 7 ? the few gearings i remember encountering all seemed to put out roughly 12RPM in game much the same as the predecessors, and the same as the Gremy gets on it's 130mm guns, i half expect we can extrapolate that the 130mm Soviet gun is going to have roughly the same ROF, with more damage and superior shell performance, albiet without being in a DP mount.

the Hasuharu never carried 3x2, it carried 2x2 and 1x1 with the latter being removed for AA Guns. dont forget it's not matched up against the Gearing, it's matched up against the Mahan, if you simply move the Gremy's stats over in the Gun and Torpedo department it's likely to be amusingly onesided, and afaik the 53-39 is basically the only WW2 era Soviet Torpedo deployed on Destroyers. the Wyoming has 12" guns versus the Fuso's 14"

    so im curious

and we're back at the initial question, how are they going to balance these ships when the "hard stats" (ie, ship speed, number of gun barrels, torpedo tubes) are so strikingly similar ? looking purely at how they are fitted out the Kiev is basically a Gearing without DP guns and less AA guns mounted, and the soft-stats have to make up a three tier gap ?

    so im curious

how does this align with the torpedo performance on the Gremyashchy vs the Nicholas ? Wargaming seems big on keeping the "national traits" around and i have a hard time seeing how this thing is not going to flat-out superior to the Mahan in every way, even if it just gets the 53-39 from the Gremy straight across, it's still going to be flat-out better. really, every source i have access to, being at work and all, put it firmly in the 12rpm department, even the official wiki.

    so im curious

the Gremyashchy get's slow turret rotation but equal ROF to the USN 5" guns, this has the same guns in a different mounting, USN 5" guns dont actually gain or lose ROF throughout the tech tree, why should these be different ? max design speed is also the top speed for most ships in game, why should this be any different ? actually a predecessor to the project 48 ship was build, in the shape of the Tashkent, with a 43.5kt top speed. i do see the Gearing has superior torpedoes, but i struggle to line this up with the argument that USN Destroyers should rely on their guns due to their inferior torpedoes, that after all applies from basically the tier 2 all the way to the Benson, especially considering that the ship it's going to be tiered across with is the Mahan of all things.

    so im curious

you misunderstand what i am getting at. the Gearing has 6x127mm guns, and 2x5 533mm torpedo launchers, the Kiev has 6x130mm guns and 2x5 533mm Torpedo launchers, they are roughly equal sized, the Kiev had a design speed of something like 40kt to the Gearing's 36kt and so on, the Gearing had more AA firepower obviously, but beyond that the "hard stats" are remarkably similar, yet there is a three tier spread between the ships.

    so im curious

why is this on tier 7 when this is on tier 10 ? judging by the guns on the Gremyashchy, that seem to perform on par-or-better than USN 127mm guns in the DPM and fire arch department (it's the same 130mm guns in a different mounting) i am really quite curious as to how this is going to be balanced in practice, they have equal number of barrels, equal number of torp tubes of identical caliber and Soviet torpedoes, judging by the Murmansk and Gremyashchy, are decidedly on the side of "better than average". are we seriously looking at "Bad AA guns make up the difference!" or something?

    Bias Against US?

*ahem* simply put, they dont even have superiority in terms of the actual dogfight, it's basically so close it's decided by RNG if both captains have the appropriate skills and equipment mounted, only the RJ gets what ? 25% more planes ? it's a obvious case of a pair of ships where one is flat out superior, but surely it's balllanced!
  13. Liare

    Bias Against US?

practical experience indicate you're wrong, the Independence fighters trade roughly 10-11 for 12 for the RJ, and carries less fighters, this means fighter-setup vs fighter-setup the independence loses due to lack of reserves, and it trades in basically all its offensive power versus the RJ who trades in roughly 2/3rds, so the Indepednece doesn't have superiority in terms of dogfighting either.

    Mogami: 155mm or 203mm ?

the 155's have nearly identical shell arcs, and twice the DPM, you're effectively downgrading your ship by taking 203's, the 155's can get citadel pens against cruiser sized targets pretty easily as well.
