Anything using aircraft to attack is a CV. Ise was a hybrid carrier, not a hybrid battleship.
-
Yeah... well... about that... And AA being crap is one of reasons why CVs are overpowered. It is a relationship. If CVs were extremely powerful against badly-played ships (especially backline campers) but could be countered with tactics, it would be far better situation than "merely" very powerful CVs that are essentially without a counter.
-
They won't. CVs are extremely boring to play - or to play against - but Wargaming apparently has a certain target in terms of how many CV players they want to have. So they make CVs overpowered on purpose to meet that target. Plus WG are retarded. Map design should be enough proof of that.

Air strike not as [Edited] as it seems?
Pukovnik7 replied to totally_potato's topic in General Discussion
As I have pointed out in another thread, a Vanguard, with rudder shift mod, has rather difficult time evading this stuff. So I guess everyone will play destroyers now... except CVs have a countermeasure for them as well. As I said: this game is rock-paper-scissors, but CVs are a thermonuclear bomb. Battleships at least should be able to counter them, but AA is so useless that they are only a target for the compulsive sadist sitting at the 9-line. -
Problem is that it is not just a countermeasure to island campers. As I have pointed out, such strikes are very difficult to evade even for a large battleship moving at speed. And if anything, this crap will encourage more camping, not less: kinda difficult to properly fight other ships when you have to constantly watch out for sky cancer. I will break out my Vanguard and do some more testing with this crap, but I seriously doubt my opinion will change. You reduce camping by redesigning maps: taller islands, fewer extremely open spaces, and reducing possibilities for focus fire in general. This will not help at all.
-
The only testing they do is wanking over BDSM porn. Should be rather obvious from the way a lot of maps are designed. Half the time, I want to quit as soon as I see the map... but it is too late by then, so I try my best.

Air strike not as [Edited] as it seems?

It is a cancer for the game itself. Of course a bunch of lines of code cannot get literal cancer, but the metaphor for the effect on the game is very much apt. -

1) This is a cruiser, not a battleship. So dodging is much easier. 2) Yes, some people will miss their drops. Some people will also miss point-blank shots with Vanguard's main battery. Doesn't mean it isn't lethal. -
But that was done in part with the help of aircraft carriers disabling Bismarck... this one had no carrier involvement. Last battleship battle was actually at Surigao Strait, but that one again had some CV involvement.

Yeah, low tier RN battleships are fun. I also liked Vanguard. Charge in, bow-bounce whatever enemy battleship shoots at you (I realized that bow-wave is quite effective at that... basically, start a slight turn just as you see shells incoming), and then perforate them with Vanguard's excellent AP. Unfortunately, layout of many Tier VIII maps, not to mention player behaviour, make such brawling opportunities quite rare. And of course, Vanguard herself is vulnerable from the side. Thanks. I really hope I will.

To me, German battleships are the most fun ships in the game. Charge at two enemy battleships and watch them crap their pants and panic because so many BB players nowadays have no clue how to brawl... and kill a cruiser with your secondaries as a side order, because why the hell not? Compared to that, British battleships are more boring than an acceptance speech. Yeah, Pommern sounds really fun. Looking forward to it.
-
The only logical way to mitigate it would be to remove it... I mean, we really don't need any more CVs in the game, especially ones that cosplay as surface combatants.

"Yo ho ho and ten bottles of vodka Yo ho ho and nine bottles of vodka Yo ho ho and eight bottles of vodka ..." Then you have clearly not experienced it. I always play my Scharnhorst at full speed ahead, unless I need to throw off enemy aim in which case I vary my engine output. CV cruiser had no issue devstriking me with three squadrons of [edited] baloon parabomb planes. This type of crap doesn't incentivize me to move forward - FFS, moving forward is the only thing I always want - it incentivizes me to either camp with a CV or to uninstall the game. And I am leaning more towards the latter option since not every game has a CV to provide air cover...
-
Well, I play Scharnhorst, and she is a very comfortable ship to play even when uptiered to T9. Thanks. Pommern is actually the coal ship I want to get. EDIT: And now I got the idiotic parachute strikes in my Scharnhorst game. Though unlike Vanguard, Scharnhorst at least managed to evade them... though I'm not sure whether that was skill or luck.
-
CVs are an overpowered class for obsessive-compulsive sadists. They have nothing to do with other ships, and are definitely not a "class like any other".
-
I play them for brawling, not for AA. Reason why I specified Tier VII is because, AFAIK, this bullcrap only starts at Tier VIII. So Tier VII is still playable. And, frankly, if Vanguard's AA can't put a dent into this stuff, what chance do any other ships have? I ground XP to get to Grosser Kurfurst and see how she brawls, but if this is the state of the game then I will just get Gneisenau and stop caring. Oh, OK.
-
Not camping doesn't help. I play all my battleships as brawlers, and one such strike took my Vanguard from full to less than half health.
-
I dusted off my Vanguard to see what it is like... A CV got a strike on me with these parachute strikes. I went from full to half HP in one strike. Verdict: I will never play Vanguard again. In fact, I will never play anything other than Tier VII German battleships again. Or Halland, once I get it. This is ridiculous. And WarGaming developers are, officially, mentally retarded. That, or a bunch of psychotic sadists.

Took my Shiny Horse to stretch his propellers in the Ranked... -
Well Done, Wargaming! .... Hhhhhhh XD
Pukovnik7 replied to VeteranGamer84's topic in General Discussion
Well yeah, but these are kinda exceptions. I was talking about BBs, DDs and normal cruisers. Also, if I don't move, how I am ever going to get enemies into my battleship's secondaries' engagement range? -

Moving makes it even worse because you are actually being useful to the team and thus a priority target. -
I don't think it is backups. To me, game size is 64,8 GB, and that is a clean installation.
-
Try 9 teammates. And even then that is no guarantee.

Just played a Ranked battle... I have to say, my Scharnhorst felt right at home in there. -

Playing Scharnhorst. In a Tier IX game. To repeat: Tier VII Scharnhorst in a Tier IX game. And not once did I feel outclassed. This ship is far from overpowered, but unlike many others it is really comfortable to play regardless of what matchup she gets - as long as there are no CVs around, that is.
